My wife and I enjoy Brug quite a bit, and were excited to try out the new location in Kapolei - unfortunately we were disappointed by the staff and service. People working the front seemed largely uninterested in answering questions, or being of any help while we were trying to use things like gift cards and coupons specifically provided by Brug themselves. Considering the food and atmosphere are nearly identical to every other location - the "largest Brug yet" claim seems more of a technicality than a feat - I don't see any reason to come here instead of any other location on the island. Brug Bakery on the Westside! I'm guessing many who come to Brug Kapolei would visit the next closest Brug in Pearlridge. This is like any other Brug--you sanitize your hands, grab a tray, parchment paper, and a pair of tongs, and pick away! Brug Kapolei is definitely more narrow than Pearlridge. While Pearlridge's is open and square-shaped, Kapolei's is rectangular, hot dog style. It's like customers would have to form a single file line to pick pastries, then wait to pay, then walk up to the cashier. This set up would be tough for those like me who like to survey all baked options before picking pastries. Along this narrow walkway, you'll see the savory or meat-filled pastries, followed by the sweet pastries. I picked a piece of monkey bread, a chocolate croissant, and the seasonal strawberry cream cheese danish. While waiting to pay, customers get a good view of the bakers busy making yummy treats in the kitchen, along with displays of all sorts of kuma (bear) themed cakes. It was surreal seeing a view of bakers while staying on the Westside. Of course, they serve coffees and locally made teas. On a Saturday morning, only one cashier was in front, but she worked efficiently, switching from one POS machine to the next between customers. Brug doesn't have my favorite taro bun (but I kinda knew that)! Come here for croissants and their famous monkey bread. Go to 85 Degrees for the taro bun and more Chinese-style pastries. Apple Maps has this Brug location wrong. If you're exiting H-1 through Kalaeloa, you can see the Brug signage at a corner between Down to Earth and Ross. Brug Bakery on the west side? What? Can't believe we finally have one on this side of the island. I've always been to this bakery whenever I go to town side, and I'm glad I'm able to just drive close by and get pastries and goodies anytime! Located right by Massage Envy and Ross Kapolei. Lots of parking space, and the sign is big for you to see. I went at 10 a.m. before my massage appointment next door, and the selection was amazing. They were surprisingly still stocked, and the workers continued to fill the items. I love how it's a good mix of savory and sweet treats, and I'm excited to try more. Checked out this new Brug location in Kapolei. Right next to the Verizon store. The shop had all the usual breads and pastries from their other shops. Everything looked appealing and freshly baked. Some pastries seemed pricey but comparable to similar bakeries in Honolulu. Convent location for the west side. Service was fast and friendly. My first visit to the newest Brug Bakery located at the Kapolei Commons. I went at opening, there was a line, check out was pretty quick. There's 3 types of Anpan Jumbo, Koshi and Hokkaido. My favorite is the Jumbo Anpan. If you like a good Anpan this one's for you.. Jumbo Anpan consist of double the amount of red bean. I purchased 2 Jumbo Anpans and 2 sausage rolls it's an arabiki sausage wrapped in a soft Japanese bread. Both were warm and satisfying! Baked goods are in a bakery display case, personally I think It would be better if these were individually wrapped like their other locations. I'm so glad they opened a Brug in Kapolei. This was my first time visiting this location and I was impressed. Located in Kapolei Commons next to Massage Envy, there is plenty of parking out front and a wide variety of pastries, bread and sweets to choose from. Compared to their other locations, I thought that this location had more options to choose from. They have cute strawberry and chocolate kuma cottas, new cakes and my favorite chocolate kuma puffs. My other favorites are the cranberry and cream cheese bread, mochi donut, tuna bomb, custard bread, curry pan and cream cheese bomb. The staff are helpful and the interior is wide and well lit. Came to the grand opening. Showed up a little before 10 and made it in the bakery by 11:50 am. The staff did a good job of letting a certain amount of people in at a time. This location has certain items other locations do not have. Like their strawberry stuffed bear. They also had a bear with a heart stuffed with banana cream for Valentine's day. I was excited to try all the strawberry things including their fresh imported strawberries from Japan. My mom came and she got the cranberry loaf which was stuffed with cream cheese. It was soo good! I got a matcha mochi donut, fresh fruit cheese danish, chocolate croissant, mini baguettes, monkey bread, potato croquette, hotdog bun for my hubby. Strawberry pastry filled with red bean paste. I also wanted to try their panna cotta bear. It's so cute! We get one free on our next visit. We also got a free black tote bag. I wanted the chocolate cup but the girl at the front misunderstood me. My mom ordered us some drinks. She got a matcha frappe and I got a Strawberry matcha. She liked hers, mine was ok, too much ice. Spent around $80.00. The strawberries were pricey. Welcome to Kapolei... What a surprise to find that Kapolei Commons is home to the newest Brug Bakery and what a treat literally to see them here. You can find them at the opposite end of the theaters near Ross's as this newest addition does have some items that are unique to this location. Though yes once you walk in you'll find rows of individual keeping pairs of various pastries with a sign beside each item with name and price with a brief description some with time constraints has a made/pull time so there's no stress about its information. Along with some grab and go drinks and some merchandise of jelly and loaves of bread that you see at all locations what they have here are crafted drinks from their barista menu with teas and coffee it's pinkies up to pair with you pastries as well. What's also unique about this location is they have a display case filled with some cuties Kuma which is bear in Japanese are found here in Kuma Puffs where it's a round cream puff all dressed up like a bear and Cheese Kuma Cotta...their version of a Panna Cotta. The vibe here is just so nice and friendly with staff greeting you right when you enter and to wrap your pastries so nice and ready to travel is greatly appreciated and know that it's the spot that many have already enjoyed as well. Wow this location had many different options of pastries & bread including a section for day old bread. The one closest to where I live is Pearlridge & they're often out of pastries. Bread also comes out at a certain time so if I'm too early it's not yet out. They need a bigger location for Pearlridge! read more

Finally open in Kapolei! I usually go all the way to Ala Moana Center to get this Japanese bread, so I was really excited to hear they opened a location in Kapolei. I went on opening day, and there was a long line outside and inside the store -- clearly a lot of people were excited too! They had a big selection of bread, but unfortunately I couldn't find my favorite, the custard bun. I did see melon bread, but it didn't look like a traditional melon pan, so I decided not to get it. Since it was opening day, they probably made a large batch of bread, and some of it didn't look as fresh as I expected. I was a little disappointed this time. All staffs are ok. Plenty parking. We tried this bakery on a whim as we were shopping in the area and we are SO happy we did. I recommend going before noon as there are usually more items available. An absolute must is the mochi donut. Both the original and chocolate are amazing. It's like a super noise almost oily (in a good way). The chocolate is like a homemade dark chocolate that melts in your mouth. If you get anything. Get this! You can get your own items and then pay at the end! Nothing we had was bad!! read more

I love a Japanese style bakery and so glad Brug opened in Kapolei. Came here at 9 am and everything was filled and fresh. I got a sausage pastry, mochi donut and garlic bread. All my pastries were delicious and warm. I also ordered a strawberry match which was disappointing though and I would not order again. They put way too much strawberry which made it overly sweet and I could not taste the matcha at all. I'll stick to the baked goods next time I visit. read more

FYI They are open from 8am-6pm but hours are subject to change (thats why they havent posted it yet). Come early if you'd like the seasonal stuff cause they sell out fast. I came around 11 and they had a ton of breads out but no banana custard puppy seasonal bread :( The cashiers and staff were nice, coffee came out timely and was good! My favorites were the beef curry pan (crunchy bread on the outside, flavorful curry on the inside), the Bear panna cotta (creamy sweet custard with some raspberry bits inside sleeping on a sugar cookie you can eat) and the strawberry matcha (comes with chopped strawberries inside). I was really excited for this new bakery location to open since we've always loved visiting their other spots around town. They offer a great mix of both sweet and savory baked goods, which is one of the reasons we keep coming back. One thing to keep in mind is timing. I stopped by right when they opened, and unfortunately not everything was ready yet. Some items were still baking, so the selection was a bit limited. Safe to say, the early bird doesn't always get the worm here! I'd recommend going about an hour after opening if you want the full variety of options. I also tried one of their coffee drinks, the coconut foam cold brew latte. As a coconut fan, I really enjoyed it, and it was a nice addition to the visit. Visiting this bakery was a very happy accident. I did not have enough time to really savor the experience, but since I'm always in this area, I'm looking forward to visiting again. I loved my few selections that I got to try. The Matcha one was pretty good. I love the look of the bear bread. I believe it was chocolate filling inside. My personal favorite was definitely the strawberry danish! It had a very nice distinct coffee flavor in the middle. I'm extremely curious about how the drinks taste as well as their little mouses that look like sleeping bears. 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be back! I'm so glad I finally got to experience this bakery when it is filled with lots of choices. Their selection of delicious pastries expands each day as the staff learns from the Master Chef how to bake new pastries daily. They have some awesome specialty drinks that go perfectly with their pastries and breads. The Lemon Custard danish was a New find for me, I dont remember seeing it at the Ala Moana bakery. They definitely have some kinks to work out When we first went in we were so excited that there's a location closer to us finally. And the excitement slowly died down the longer we stayed. The pastries are cute yes, but I saw employees refilling them not doing F.I.F.O. They were just putting fresh pastries in the front. So word of caution don't grab from the back - they're probably stale... I can say even some of our pastries were more soggy than crunchy. Flavor was great though. I also like when a bakery has allergens on the info placard. This bakery doesn't just FYI. Lastly....dont get drinks from here. Really. I got a strawberry matcha and husband got a caramel latte. Upon first sip of my matcha - it was so sweet it literally hurt my teeth - and I have a sweet tooth haha. The matcha was also just weak. I came home and added more matcha from my own collection which made it great lol. If you're a matcha girly - skip the matcha from here. I promise. My husband said his caramel latte was also overly sweet. Drinks - 0/5 I promise skip it. Pastries - 2.5/5 - textures wrong but flavor was good Service - 5/5 Price - 2/5 ($50 for two drinks and 8 pastries) Overall- 2/5 I'm sure they're just learning but for now - I won't return for a little while. It is very cozy so try to quickly make a selection quickly. Upon walking in, take a right to browse and grab your items. The store's direction flows one way. Treats that left an impression on my family Dry Kase $4.20 - Custard filled sandwich. My fave. 10/10 will be buying again. Bought (2) and it was still good the next day! Kuma Choco Custard $4.20 - Chocolate Custard filled bun shaped like a bear. Bacon $4.50 - Bacon wrapped with Twisted French Bread bread wasn't soft. It was hard and chewy. Perfect for a teething baby! Chocolate Kuma Cotta $8.50 10/10: Chocolate flavored pudding shaped like a teddy bear. Sweet but not overly sugar shock inducing sweet. My 4yr old was so excited to eat it. I liked the crisp on the bottom! Very smart! I have an appreciation for things that taste as good as they look. Brug never disappoints. Just so happened to stumble across this location after shopping at Ross, and there was a line! A line is a good sign, right? Well, we waited patiently for our turn to go in.. we were excited! Then that excitement turned into slight disappointment. It was 9am and majority of their pastries were sold out lol. Though they had maybe 20 items to choose from, maybe 11 were in stock? It wasn't much. But yet when you peak into the kitchen, you can see racks and racks of everything waiting to be put out. It's actually a very small area.. It's cafeteria style so just line up single file and grab your tray and load up. I got the mochi ring doughnuts, kale/spinach croissant, and a pizza roll. I was actually making a point to stop at 85Degrees down the street so didn't want to over buy. All in all.. everything was standard. Nothing would make me come out of my way to visit. Happy I have a Brug so close to Ewa now. Frequent patron of their Ala Moana and sometimes pearlridge location so this is convenient! Chose an off time around mid afternoon during the week so it wouldn't be too busy. It's pretty narrow in here but I like that at this location there are clear, enclosed cases for the pastries so it's more hygienic. Got all our favorites. Mostly savory ones. The vegetable focaccia, potato croquette pan, spinach kale and more. My son likes the curry pan and he also got a new one the crab au gratin he said was good. These are all great options for breakfast or snacking. I don't know about this one though but he wanted to try their exclusive ranch flavored mochi donut lol. They also have an extensive drink menu here unlike the others. So it's great because I got their strawberry milk which is so good because I always get one at Mana sandwiches which I believe is their sister restaurant/business so it's the same tasting! It's especially nice because here they offer a large! We also left with a loaf of bread made with Hokkaido flour and a local product Dip into Paradise's Maui onion garlic mustard. Went there on the 15th. There was a soft opening and grand opening on the 14th. A fair amount of people mid morning but still plenty of parking near the store. I always go there for the bread (if Mana sold their bread at Brug like they used to, I'd buy it) so I was surprised there was none to buy at 10:45. But one of the bakers told us we could purchase one that she would bag for us (and fortunately it was cut because I have bought bread that they said wasn't ready to be cut). Also purchased a couple of pastries - the variety is more expansive than Pearl Ridge, Ala Moana or Kahala. But the top tier was a little high for me (5' tall). I could read the signs but couldn't see the pastries fully. We went to,pay and she told us she could not accept our gift card since it was not purchased there. She said it was still a thing they were working on. They have been working on opening their location here for months and their payment system which works at all their other locations couldn't work here? A little odd. read more

I have never been to a Brug bakery that I don't like, I love them all. Pearl Ridge, Ala Moana, Kahala This Kapolei one was a little bit disappointing, by 3 o'clock. They're all sold out, everything's empty, in my opinion they should close the store then. To walk in and have literally every case empty is kind of offputting. Again, their stuff is always good, I am sure this location will not be any different but again I didn't have anything to buy so I can't really say. I bought some raisin bread and regular bread always good. But there was nothing else. People were walking in and then leaving. When an establishment stays open, you need to either continue to bake stuff or close. It doesn't make any sense to stay open. It was super disappointing. And that was my first attempt to try the KAPOLEI location. read more

The flow in this brug is horrible. There is no room for line in/line out. The worker, who I think was the owner, said excuse me to me at each box I tried to grab pastry from. At least 5 times in the short time I was there. I went to pay and the girl charged me for cranberry bread. So I said I didn't get cranberry bread. This is raisin bread. She said no, the red ties are cranberry. So I went to get raisin and the lady putting them out says, they are all raisin. So I tell the cashier, and she asks someone about it and another girl behind the counter saya, why does it matter it's the same price????? WHAT? It matters because I wanted raisin, not cranberry. Also I realized when looking at my receipt that cranberry bread is 9.50, raisin is 9.00. I found the whole experience so VERY disappointing!!!!!!!! Sunday 2/22 We spent $40+ so we automatically got a reusable bag. The savory items are so worth it especially if you're lucky enough to get something warm and fresh from the oven. Each item runs about $6. But I'm taking off stars because 1) the flow is really tight and uncomfortable if it's crowded and if people bring in strollers etc 2) the employees seem less than friendly - I guess it's really hard to eye contact and smile And 3). MISS MA'AM WITH THE PINK POKEBALL PIN ON HER APRON - STOP TUCKING YOUR HAIR BEHIND YOUR EARS and TOUCHING YOUR NOSE and GLASSES WITH YOUR GLOVED HANDS! I watched in disgusted anxiety as she packed up other people's orders hoping she would Not touch mine but I was ready to ask her to change her gloves if she did. I know y'all had to complete Food Safety Training to be in business. Wearing gloves doesn't excuse you from proper hand washing. Not changing your gloves is exactly the same as not washing your hands. read more
