Made fresh to order. Just as delicious as at the main bakery. No line at 3:30pm on July 4. Had to come by here to compare to the main location. No cash. Debit and Credit card only. Friendly staff. They don't have the whole menu. We wanted the seasonal raspberry malasada. But, they don't carry it.
Leonard's goes mobile! Oh my gawd, these malasadas are incredible! They are 10x better when they are hot out of the fryer and the filling in the puffs are oozing! We've been to the Leonard's brick & mortar store in Kaimuki, but the long lines there can be discouraging. When I found their malasadamobile in Hawaii Kai near our cousin's house, we made a quick stop before visiting them and was surprised that there were not many people on line. The service was quick and the fried dough was hot in the box. Five minutes later, the box was cracked open and the aroma filled the room. Everybody got to try the plain sugar, cinnamon sugar, custard puff, dobash chocolate puff & haupia puff. My favorites are the custard and haupia. After half of the malasadas were gone, there were piles of granulated sugar in the box and I used the plain malasadas to scoop up the extra sugar for an extra sugar high boost! One downside to the mobile truck is that they don't serve drinks, only malasadas, so you can't get coffee to wash it down like at the store. And it is cashless, so have your credit or debit card ready to tap or swipe.
Just go. It's one of the best desserts on the island. Malasadas are amazing. People line up for these delights at the main location. Service at the windward mall is top notch. There is plenty of parking at this location. You will not be disappointed.
The absolute best malasada's! Tried each flavor and understand why this place has gone viral. Warm, light, airy pillows of pure heaven.
Don't have a chance to make it to the bakery, so the food truck had to do. It's located in the middle of a random shopping center parking lot. Took us a bit to find it. It didn't live up to the hype for me, unfortunately. I mean, fried dough is always going to be a treat, but I didn't love it. The original was my favorite of the three. Pillowy, good amount of sugar. The stuffed one was a disappointment. The coconut cream inside wasn't my favorite texture. It was more of a custard/pudding and the flavor tasted artificial in a way. Ben at the food truck you're paying a premium for these. I wonder if it's just aimed for tourists doing the loop and stopping at the lookout points. There's a picnic table if you want to take a quick seat to eat them but majority of people took them to go.
Leonard's malasadas was on my list of items to try while in Hawaii. I had planned on visiting their brick and mortar, but was pleasantly surprised to find their maladasamobile while driving to and from our hotel. We decided to stop by on our last day, right before hiking the the Koko Crater Trail. To our surprise, there was no line. We ordered one of each of the malasadas puffs: custard, dobash (chocolate), and haupia (coconut). They were $2.45 each. The malasadas came out hot and fresh minutes later. We sat on one of the benches briefly to taste them. The dough was light and airy and all three filling flavors were delicious. I especially enjoyed the dobash and custard. Leonard's is definitely worth a stop!
We got here this morning at around 930am and there was a line. They are pretty fast with service so you dont wait for a long time. We got the cinnamon sugar which is an all time classic for me. And my partner got the custard filled. We compared it to Penny's which is what we had yesterday. Leonard's is definitely the best!!!! I got a few to go. It just melts in your mouth kind of softness. Will definitely buy some before I head back to California this sunday.
We found this truck on the way to Hanauma Bay and we were very excited since we tried to go to the brick and mortar bakery and it was a disaster. We got a few different stuffed donuts and they are worth the wait, even in the rain. I recommend trying all the different varieties, but the chocolate filled one was the best in my opinion.
This food truck is located in the mall center. Since it's a truck, they only offer malasadas here, even though their main location carries a wider variety of pastries. Service can be a bit slow, especially if there's a line. hey're definitely the best malasadas around and absolutely must be eaten fresh! Sometimes the classic (without filling) is just as good as the more popular filled options. A must-try!
Good malasadas in a non-descript strip mall. Came here after Hanauma Bay. There's plenty of strip mall parking. Grabbed a few malasadas - think I preferred the filled ones over the originals, but feel the filling gives a little bit of moisture to the malasadas. Would come back!
Leonard's Bakery Food Truck, located in a parking lot of a shopping center. I ordered a regular malasada with sugar and cinnamon, it was soft and delicious! It hits different fresh out the oil and eaten immediately. Light and airy goodness!
Stopped by after a Koko Head hike. The malasadas were amazing! They were freshly fried and piping hot. I liked the ones without filling more - both the original and cinnamon were light, airy, and delicious. I thought the fillings (I tried custard & coconut) could've had more flavor. Parking was easy, and there was a very short line at 8:30am. Service was friendly and extremely fast.
Absolutely amazing. Stopped here for a pick me up snack. Donuts were so soft and fluffy and made fresh. We got them pretty quick and they were pipping hot. Best stop ever. We started with 4 donuts to try: Orignal, Cinammon, Li Hing, and the Chocolate filling. We inhaled the donuts in the car and came back for more Got the coconut to try, another one of the cinnamon and the Li Hing. They also had the custard filling that we haven't gotten round to yet. Our favorites were the Li Hing and the Cinammon flavor. The chocolate filling was pretty good too. It leaned more towards a dark chocolate flavor, so not too sweet which is great. Obviously we came back for round 2. Might stop by for a third round

I found this truck using Yelp while in Hawaii and OH MY GOODNESS I'm so glad I did ! Leonard's Bakery (Oahu): Known for popularizing this Portuguese donut , offers it in original and custard-filled hot and fresh at their store and food truck locations. Malasadas are a popular Portuguese-style, hole-less donuts that are a must try while in Hawaii, brought by 19th-century plantation workers. They are deep-fried, pillowy dough balls--often coated in granulated sugar, cinnamon, or li hing mui (salty plum) powder--and typically filled with custard, haupia (coconut pudding), or guava. Next time I'm ordering 2 of each because Lordy these were so delicious and worth the wait in line ! read more

Perfect when they're freshly fried. Went on a rainy day, and there was no line here. If you've never had a malasada before, they're essentially fried doughnuts. Delicious, though a bit doughy to get to the creamy part. They actually travel well (brought some home!) read more
I haven't been here in a while, so I'm going to update my review. Their brick and mortar location in Waikiki always has a line. Going to their malasadamobiles are so much easier. They have one here, Pearlridge and Waikele Outlet Mall. I'm not sure if they have one anywhere else. I got four haupia filled malasadas $2.45 each. They also had custard and dobash fillings. They were already made sitting on a rack under a heat lamp. When you get malasadas they're best eaten fresh out of the fryer. If it has been sitting for a while it doesn't hit the same. It was ok, but it's just so much better fresh. It saves time, as it takes a few minutes for them to fry it up. I'd still rather wait a few minutes to get them fresh. read more

There's nothing like some hot, fresh malasadas to satisfy your sweet tooth after a meal, swim, hike, or whatever. If it's Leonard's, I'll typically skip out on the OG location in town side jus cuz that ish be toooo packed. I just want my malasadas, I don't need no more pictures hahaha. read more
Ate too much at Hawalea Joe's, but still managed to convince everyone to get some Malasadas since it's our last day before flying back to CA. Warm Malasadas even from a food truck...clean, good service outta this small footprint. read more

Amazing. Every. Freaking. Time. So much better than any donut you ever had (also because this is not a donut :-) I don't know how they do it, but I'm hooked. Pro tip: don't expect too much of distinct flavor from the custards - there is a little hint of fruit, but mostly just sweet gyuhee goodness! read more
How convenient to have a Malasada mobile in Hawaii Kai where we were staying! No braving the lines at the OG store that I grew up going to. And the malasadas have more variety than when I was growing up here too- fillings (haupia, cream an chocolate), and plain sugar, cinnamon sugar and Ling hi Mui sugar. We tried one of each. And came back another day for more. read more
We spotted the Leonard's food truck in a parking lot while driving and made a quick stop. We were not disappointed! The malasadas came out piping hot. We got both the custard and the coconut cream. Both were great but we preferred the custard. This place absolutely lives up to the hype! read more
Before the hike to Hanauma Bay or Koko Head, it's a great place to visit. Who would not want to grab a snack before their adventure? It will taste amazing when you eat it after your adventure! Pick your favorites and place an order! You can choose from Malasadas ($1.85) of Original, Cinnamon, Li Hing, or Malasadas Puffs ($2.25) of Custard, Dobash, or Haupia. Bad: - An individual donut is not cheap ($1.85 or $2.25). - They only take cards. Good: - The truck is located within the plaza, making it easy to find parking. - Perfect snack to pack. - Friendly staff! Conclusion: I like Malasadas, but they are not always my number one snack to pack. You must try all the flavors at least once. Pair the donut with the coffee, and you are at peace. read more

Nothing better than a hot Leonard's malasada!!! Don't forget they don't accept cash at the truck - credit cards only. There was no line so I had to stop. The girls were very friendly and so quick! I was in the car enjoying my hot malasada in just a couple of minutes. read more
So glad I got to try the famous Leonard's, and didn't have to wait in the insane lines since we went right when the truck opened! My husband and I tried an original custard malasada and a cinnamon sugar one. Both were so warm and delicious. If it wasn't so early in the morning, we would've tried one of each flavor! read more

Absolutely as good (if not better) than the excellent reputation it carries. This is a MUST TRY in Honolulu. There are a few food truck locations and what looks like one stand alone one. We tried the one 0.5mi from Hanauma Bay, and it was a perfect post-snorkeling snack! We tried the cinnamon sugar Malasada and the custard-filled (sugar dusted) malasada. They both were delicious, warm, freshly-fried no-hole donuts but WOW the custard-filled... melt in your mouth deliciousness. This one was in a shopping center so parking was ample and free. The food truck is adorable and service was quick. Will be searching out the other locations, which appear to be convenient to some attractions, such as diamond head! read more

Can you really complain about Leonard's? It is so good when fresh. The malasadas are airy with the perfect amount of sweetness. My favorite is the li hing malasada, which has just the right hint of li hing. I especially love the Malasada Mobile in Hawaii Kai because it rarely has a line. It is a quick and easy dessert stop and always amazing! read more
wow, was all I could say, I knew it had to be good based on the reviews I've seen and Yelp did not let this one down, I went there twice once on a Saturday and then went back to the next day as it was that good warm fresh donuts multiple choices highly recommend read more
We were lucky enough to get to stop at the Leonard's truck and were excited because we always saw a line wrapped around the actual bakery. We got six piping hot original ones which were filled with haupia ( coconut). They were rolled in sugar and piping hot and delicious . We enjoyed them so much. Little sugary, warm gooey pillows of goodness. So happy we were able to try this iconic Hawaiian treat while we're were there. read more
This is a food truck located in a plaza with lots of parking. I got the haupia (coconut) filled malasada. Since it was made to order, it was super crunchy and had a really nice texture. The filling was also a strong coconut flavor like coconut milk or cream. I loved it since I love all things coconut. read more
We had just hiked Koko Crater and our friend wanted to show us his favorite spot for malasadas - Portuguese styled fried donuts - which are a very popular snack in Hawaii. This spot in particular was located in a shopping center and had the convenience of being a food truck! Easy to order for takeout. There are a few tables to the side to enjoy your treats while they're fresh and hot. There's options to choose either original malasadas with various flavored sugar, and an option to have them with cream filling. Honestly if I got the chance to visit again I'd get the cream filling option, the filling is so light and the donuts are so fluffy! I'm glad I was able to try this popular Hawaiian snack and at Leonard's no less as they're very well known to locals. read more

Is this truck ever open? Everyday I've been coming to Koko Marina in hopes that the truck will be finally open to buy malasadas. They don't post their hours of operation on the truck or on this Yelp site. Anybody know?
I went today March 07, 2022, and the sign says 730am-6pm until further notice. Hope that helps.
