    Signature Poi Dog

I wanted to love Hula Dog but the experience was just meh overall. Despite ordering in front of a few other groups, the gentleman making the food made the drinks for the parties behind us first before getting our food out. He could have been multitasking and getting part of our order ready while he was making our food, but it was still a little annoying. I enjoyed the Signature Poi Dog (I ordered it mild), but wanted more from the taro bun. It was a bit hard in places? Maybe not the most fresh. I'd be willing to go back and try again as I think the hot dog itself was very tasty but the overall experience left me wanting more.

Went here on the weekend while our daughter was playing at the convention center. Super close and easy to walk to. The place was not busy at all and there were tables to sit at. We walked up and looked at the menu and figured same thing as Puka Dog on Kauai..boy did I regret mentioning the P word. Got an earful from the guy working about how much better it was blah, blah, blah. He went on and on and honestly it was a turnoff. Only reason I'm taking a star away. Our food was tasty as well as our lilikoi pineapple lemonade. The taro bun was perfectly grilled and had a crisp that made it that much better. I'd say get the spicy, I regret not getting it hotter.

Came across this food truck and was pleasantly surprised to learn that Anthony Bourdain had visited in the past to try their famous Hula Dog. The owner runs the whole operation solo--taking orders, cooking, and serving--which added a personal touch to the experience. The setting is a typical food truck area with outdoor seating, though be aware there's no restroom available nearby. We tried the Signature Poi Dog and Hula Dog--both were delicious! The unique combination of sauces and cheese paired perfectly with the hot dogs. It's a fresh and creative take on a classic. Would definitely come back for more.

This poi dog is delicious. I think that when i first heard the taro bun with the fruity relish, it was too different to be tasty. IT WAS SO GOOD, it was like the fruitiness cancelled out the fattiness of the hotdog . It tasted so good i would go back just to have it again.

The owner of a parking lot has converted the site into a conglomeration for food carts, trailers and trucks. They have even constructed a collective seating area. Hula Dog is one of the tenants. Hula Dog's has some claim to fame, as it was featured in an episode of an Anthony Bourdain series. They still get social media coverage by content creators. The menu is really basic. There are only two sausage types available: a polish sausage and a veggie dog. Their choice of buns and unique condiments are interesting. It was okay / good; I can't say that it lives up to the hype. If you are in the area; if you are passing by; it is worth consideration. But I cannot say that Hula Dog is a destination in itself.

If you're in the Ala Moana side of town, would recommend stopping by to get a polish or hula dog - the relish and sauces pair amazingly well with the hot dog, and the bread is soft yet contains all the flavors inside really well! A must-visit for sure - Miguel Morales Photography

Best lunch we had during our 10 day trip! A friend told us to try this place and we were intrigued by how unique it sounded but we were surprised by how much we loved it. Really amazing flavors and you can tell how much care goes into making each order. It was a pleasure to chat with the owner, thank you for the complimentary water bottles! Also had the lavender and mango lemonades. So juicy and a perfect addition. Don't skip these!

If you love hot dogs (like me) you will enjoy these dogs. The inside of the bun is toasted to perfection with the delicious sauces and juicy hot dog I was impressed and loved the food. The lemonade was also super refreshing enough sweetness. The owner or guy working the stand is a little weird as many of the reviews suggest but just do a little small talk and it will be fine.

It's been awhile since Ive been to Hula Dog & at their current location. This time I introduced my wife to her first Hula dog. Hula dog is still spectacular just like I remembered it being. Now there's a variety of new drinks also. If you're ever in the area go & check them out you won't be disappointed.

Taro bun for your hot dog?! Um YES PLEASE!!! Hula Dog is a food truck that you simply cannot miss during your drive or walk. They'll have their blue and yellow food truck, a sign and a flag! I definitely recommend stopping by for a snack before or after whatever plans you have. Ordering is easy, a step by step process that you can read from their menu. They have a main menu with set and stone buns or you can create your own. Pick your bun, pick the spice level, pick the relish and the mustard, the pick any additional toppings. For the relish, they have papaya, mango, coconut or pineapple. I think, whoa right!? Well, you gotta trust me and trust Hula Dog. Their relishes will make you want to try each one lol I ended up choosing either papaya or pineapple. Sorry, I can't remember. For the mustard, they have a delicious Hawaiian mustard (Lilikoi flavor) which I definitely recommend! It adds such a sweet flavor to the savory hula dog! Trust. Or you can choose Dijon or yellow. When in Hawaii, I try to get whatever I can with Li Hing Mui! So I did. I got Hula Dog's freshly squeezed lemonade with li hing mui and wow... it was the best tasting lemonade I've ever had! I'll definitely be back at Hula Dog the next time I'm in Oahu! Mahalo Hula Dog!

Today I got to try their Polish Dog with Coconut/Pineapple Lemon Juice and "Wow" they were great, very tasty. It was the best tasting Polish Dog/Hot Dog I have tasted. Also, the owner was very friendly and helpful.

Five out of five because this is the best dog around Hawaii. There's something special about the flavor, all the different toppings, and of course, the bun they stuffed it into. I remember the good old days when this was actually on Kuhio many many moons ago. Although this is now a food truck located on Kuhio, it still has the great vibes and the delicious food. During my visit, I was able to purchase merchandise such as a shirt and a hula dog hat. Every time I'm in Hawaii I definitely check out Hula Dog for the delicious food amazing service, and aloha spirit.

My daughter told us about the famous Hula Dog, so we had to find it. This food truck is in a permanent location and has seating in a covered area. The Polish sausage is wrapped in an Ube roll. Ube, the purple yam, is everywhere and in all kinds of food. I've become completely enamored with it. It's dressed with liykoi mustard, mango relish and spicy garlic lemon sauce. The lavender lemonade was lovely and refreshing. You must have a Hula Dog! 3

This place was just two blocks away, so we braved the November misty rain and consistent wind through the buildings to make it over here. To be fair, this seemed more like a Vietnamese coffee joint and a Banh Mi place... so maybe coming here for pho wasn't our best idea. They had two kinds available that night-- beef and chicken. Since chicken pho is not something I'm willing to try, we both ordered up the dac biet. The broth was bland with a thin and unpleasant veil of grease along the top that congealed quickly on the rim of the bowl. It wasn't hot enough, or maybe the pre-cooked and chilled noodle block they poured it over cooled it off. Meat was chewy and low quality. The sprouts and basil were soggy and wilted. Honestly, it was a get up and leave kind of thing. The whole place was just dingy and didn't feel great. I've eaten at some very modest places in my native San Gabriel Valley in Southern California, so it's not a snobbery thing. It's a "someone get a Swiffer wet jet and some paper towels and give this whole place a once-over. Speaking of once, that's the sum total of times we'll ever eat here. Ordering ahead was easy and convenient, which I appreciated, and pickup was smooth. When I picked up my sandwich, my first thought was, "Wow, this is a heavy sandwich for a turkey-bacon with added avocado, no onions, and no tomato." At the time I assumed the weight meant a generous portion of turkey and bacon. Unfortunately, when I got back to work and opened it, I quickly realized that wasn't the case--it was the lettuce. There was an overwhelming amount of lettuce packed into the sandwich, to the point where it felt completely out of balance. Instead of being turkey-forward, it felt more like a lettuce sandwich with a few toppings added in. The turkey and bacon portions themselves were surprisingly small and unevenly distributed--one half had about two slices of turkey while the other had closer to a slice and a half. Most of the bacon was also concentrated on one half, so I ended up redistributing it just to make the sandwich feel a bit more balanced. The bread didn't help either. I think I shouldn't have gotten it toasted--it just didn't do it for me. It felt a little off with the filling and didn't add anything to the overall experience. I ordered The Duke, but what I didn't realize was that I was essentially getting a salad sandwich (see pic). I like lettuce on a sandwich, but this was next level--the amount completely overwhelmed everything else inside. The cost was another consideration--my total came to $19.37, including a $3.50 charge for avocado. For the portion size and balance of ingredients, I expected a bit more bang for my buck. If I give this place a second chance, I'll definitely need to say 'lite lettuce'--or maybe just 'no lettuce, please'--unless I want another salad disguised as a sandwich!

I had visited their sister location the night before in Waikīkī and had such a great experience that I told my wife, "If this place is anything like last night, we're in for something good." She agreed--and we decided to give it a shot. Right when we walked in, we were greeted by Colby, a tall, friendly guy with a great attitude. I mentioned my experience from the night before, and he immediately said he wanted to live up to that standard. That kind of response set a really positive tone. We ordered two Aroma Specials: Dolce & Banana (me) Nutella Latte (my wife) For food, we went with: P.B. Delight açaí bowl Turkey pesto panini Bacon & egg bagel Total came out to about $62, which we expected given the location near the beach. We grabbed a seat inside by the window (outside seating was full--no surprise on such a beautiful morning). Our drinks came out quickly--but unfortunately, this is where things started a little rough. We both noticed right away that something was off. My wife's Nutella latte didn't have that rich hazelnut flavor you'd expect, and my Dolce & Banana was missing the banana entirely. Honestly, they tasted almost identical. When I politely mentioned it to a staff member who brought out our food, the response felt dismissive and didn't really address the concern--which was disappointing and definitely not the experience we were hoping for. At that point, we decided to just enjoy the food and move forward--and I'm glad we did, because the food was fantastic. The turkey pesto panini was loaded with flavor, perfectly crispy on the outside, and packed with melty cheese. The bacon & egg bagel was hearty, well-balanced, and super satisfying. The P.B. Delight açaí bowl was the surprise standout--perfectly blended, fresh, and the peanut butter added an awesome richness that made it feel like a treat. Everything on the food side absolutely delivered. A few minutes later, Colby came by to check on us--and this is where the entire experience turned around. I let him know honestly: "The food is amazing, but the coffee missed the mark." Without hesitation, without attitude, and without making excuses, he said, "Hang on, let me fix that." I even told him not to worry about it--we were enjoying ourselves regardless--but he insisted. "Rick, I got you," he said. Within minutes, he came back with two freshly made drinks and a sincere apology. We took a sip and immediately--night and day difference. The Nutella latte had that rich, distinct hazelnut flavor. The Dolce & Banana finally had that smooth, balanced banana note Exactly what we were hoping for the first time. Colby is the MVP Colby completely turned this experience around. His attitude never changed--he was smiling, positive, kind, and genuinely cared about making things right. No defensiveness, no excuses--just great customer service and follow-through. That kind of service is rare, and it matters. It's evident that not all the workers have that same dedication to customer service but Colby does! He then added on that if I wanted to pay extra for the premium add-ons ($2 for a slice of cheese), I could get THOSE on the side. To make the sandwich worth even LESS than the $10 for turkey and lettuce, I watched as he cut the bread in half and DUG OUT the insides of the bread and threw it away before putting the turkey and lettuce into what was left of a very skinny baguette shell.
