Hidden Israeli food truck in Kailua! They are located on the side of the road which is why we never noticed it. I've also managed to always miss this place since they are only open M-F for 3 hours. Also a great spot to check out if you are there for the Thursday Kailua Farmer's Market. Very nice and friendly couple who runs this food truck. They have funny shirts that I enjoyed reading, hopefully they have those shirts next time to buy! I ordered the Chicken Schnitzel Plate ($17) and it was a generous portion of food. Plate came with 2 thinly sliced Chicken Schnitzel on top of rice, a side of hummus, pita bread, Israeli salad, pickled red cabbage, and tahina green sauce. I like that the chicken was not oily and still remained juicy. The tahina green sauce was good with the chicken, it reminded me of chimichurri sauce. I would suggest giving a little more sauce since that was the main enhancer of flavor for the plate. The Israeli salad was a nice refreshing and complementing side to the chicken. My main gripe was that the hummus could have used more flavor, it tasted a little more watery and bland than I was expecting. I wish the pita bread was warm as well. Overall, solid 4/5 star plate to grab when you're on the go. We will definitely come back to try other plates, especially the lamb gyro since I love lamb so much! Happy Eating Folks! read more

10/10, it's authentic. I haven't had great Israeli food since I last visited Israel in 2018. I even struggle to find the real thing where I live, in LA. That is to say, this really took me back. OMG! It's been a minute since I've experienced absolute deliciousness at this level! I'm not sure how this food truck wasn't on my radar till now. I was in Kailua, and It was Parked on Hekili street fronting Baskin and Robbins and foodland. I noticed some people actually brought out their own chairs and blankets to eat their food on the grass in the ambiance of the food truck lighting close by. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma sandwich $13. It was served quite modestly in a white bag. When I finally had a chance to unwrap it and eat it...it was absolutely divine with so many flavors my tastebuds were in heaven...slightly orgasmic experience TBH. It was perfectly stuffed with hummus, Israeli salad, pickled cabbage, chicken shawarma that had a slight curry flavor and drizzled with tahini sauce. The Pita was warm and delicious. You expect good food from a food truck, and this one really proves the point. This is the BEST pita falafel on island. I tend to eat all kinda of food from all over the island (and mainland when around those parts) but genuinely this is what I look forward to the most. The falafel sandwich is vegan (for those who that matters to). Falafel is fresh, chimichurri sauce (their spicy sauce) is amazing, and the mix with the cucumber/tomato salad and pickled veg keep it from being to heavy. Overall, it is seriously my favorite meal. Of note, if it was offered I would buy just the falafel with chimichurri sauce since those are my favorite items. The people/service is wonderful. It's a small team and they know how to make you feel valued. If you go even 2 times, they already remember you and irregardless they greet you so kindly. Island Pita's food truck is located near Foodland and the UPS Store. Look for the string lights and the possible line. In terms of food, is all about the falafel for me (since I'm a veggie) but they offer a number of plates and pitas to satisfy carnies as well. The pita is stuffed with salad, tomato, and sauce. Add the hot sauce for a little kick (you'll survive). Prices are reasonable and you'll leave full. Since we tried them a few months ago, my wife and I have been back several times. Wow the food here was amazing! I was so impressed that it's a first for me to write about it so soon after so others can experience their awesome Mediterranean food! What made it even more special was the warm service I've received by these wonderful husband and wife team. I've tried and enjoyed hummus, falafels and and gyros from other places but being my first time ordering from their menu, she convinced me to get the plate instead of a sandwich so I'll get more food and I can get a combo. Still undecided between falafels, Chicken Shawarma and lamb kebab. She said, "Why don't I get the lamb kebab and chicken Shawarma and she'll let me try a couple falafels." I thought wow that was so nice of her. I didn't even noticed earlier that they even have smaller portions in bowls and can order sides. As I was waiting, I saw a picture of Israeli salad on their menu and I told her wow that's different and she informed me that I'll be getting a little of that salad on my plate along with a pita bread. The lamb was soft and not too gamey like Kathy H mentioned in her review. The chicken shawarma was packed with so much favor and their house-made falafels had a nice crust on the outside yet moist on the inside. I love fried chicken but wanted to try something unique, I tried the chicken Shawarma and I wasn't disappointed. It was soooo good! The hummus was good but not on the thick side as I'm used to but it was just as delicious and so fresh! The Israeli salad was refreshing with chopped tomato and cucumber with grated purple pickled cabbage. The yellow rice (turmeric per Kathy H.'s review ) was enjoyable too! There's also an house-made, herb green hot sauce for those who can handle. It's pretty hot but wanted to try it. Since the lamb was $15 and the chicken was $13, I paid $14 for the combo. I gave a tip but after seeing a side of 4 falafels was $6, I felt bad I didn't give enough tip although I'm sure she wasn't expecting. Thanks Well I'll definitely be back for more. This truck is such a TEASE! LOL... Island Pita makes very infrequent stops at Mililani Tech Park for lunch. I mean, infrequent (read this as "PLEASE COME BACK SOON AND REGULARLY!"). I got the chicken shawarma plate ($13). Everything was so fresh tasting including the soft but chewy homemade pita bread. It was sooooo good, I literally divided everything on my plate in half so I could enjoy the rest for dinner. I didn't want my plate to end. Finally after two years I got to savor the flavor explosion that is Island Pita. let me start by saying that all the rave reviews for this place is legit. customer service is A+++++ l. Got the privilege of talking with the owners while I waited and they really make you feel appreciated. Not like those other trucks that treat customers like they aren't worth anything because they got a line of people behind them. I asked them if they had some kind of sampler plate and they hooked it up. I got to try a little of everything. Couldn't even finish the plate - but I'm not complaining - left overs mean I get to eat it again tomorrow. Pita: they are right to call themselves island pita because this is the best I've tried on oahu by far. It is light and fluffy with great flavor. It's not dry and compliments the food so well. I am soo glad I got some extras for later - I hope it lasts to tomorrow. Humus: great and authentic. Light and creamy with a smooth texture. Salad: light and refreshing. Mixed with the pickled cabbage for a perfect combination. All the flavors just meld so well together. Falafel: Fried with a crispy exterior (delish even after making the trip all the way back to aiea). The texture is on point and the flavors are just. Chicken shawarma and fried chicken: both were delish. I am a fan of both and I think the fried chicken is something perfect to get for the kids. It's like chicken katsu but with more flavor. Both went great with the rice which was flavorful but not overpowering. Lamb kabob: I am not really a lamb person but the lamb taste was not over whelming. When eaten with everything else on the plate you can't even tell it's lamb. But OMG it was cooked to perfection! It was so tender not tough and it just fell apart in my mouth. This is good quality meat cooked by someone who knows what they are doing. All in all I'm glad I got to try it and I will definitely be back (all though I'm hoping post covid they will come out west more or available on the weekends) but for now I guess I'm going to be making more trips to the west side. A unique quality about their food is that every ingredient/component Is great and could stand on its own - but it's even better when you put it all together. I've never tried Mediterranean food till I tried this place & I must say, IT'S DELICIOUS!!! The boyfriend and I have tried this place twice now and we've fallen in LOVE! The first time we tried it, the boyfriend went back to get a second sandwich!! That's saying a lot! First off, their portions are HUGE! A sandwich is $9 (except for the lamb one, it's $11) and puts all the ingredients nicely into a hand held vessel of goodness. Their plates are $12 (lamb is $14) and are a deconstructed version of the sandwich with everything in a plate form and comes with one whole pita bread. This is also a much bigger portion than the sandwich. The things we've tried so far are the Chicken Shawarma, Lamb Kebob sandwich, Chicken Schnitzel sandwich, and Chicken Shawarma plate. I must say, I loooove the sandwiches! You get a pita bread (don't worry, this sandwich is definitely not small! I needed 2 hands to eat this) stuffed to the top with all the toppings. All plates and sandwiches come with hummus, pickled cabbage, diced tomatoes and cucumbers, and yogurt sauce. You can also get a green colored spicy sauce if you like spicy foods. With the plates you also get seasoned rice. The Chicken Shawarma is very tender and flavorful. To me, the strongest flavor I tasted was the cumin. As for the Lamb Kebob, that is also very tender and flavorful, my boyfriend loves this one! This is definitely his go-to. We most recently tried the Chicken Schnitzel sandwich and I loooved it! The chicken is sliced into bit sized pieces, breaded, and super crispy! I love different types of textures in my food and this was amazing! Overall, I can see why this place has 5 stars! They use fresh ingredients and their portions are very generous. We're not sure where they are usually located because we only ate here when they were at special food truck events at our church. Nicest food truck couple ever! My hubby and I were starving after a Yelp event and decided to grab a bite at our favorite pizza spot, Prima in Kailua. To our dismay we realized that Prima is no longer in business, but this gave us the opportunity to try Island Pita which was parked nearby on the street. I have been wanting to try their Mediterranean food truck for years after seeing them on Yelp, but had never had the opportunity. The stars finally aligned and I was not going to let it pass me by! I decided to order the chicken shawarma sandwich and my husband got the chicken shawarma plate. I looooooove pita bread sandwiches and clapped my hands in happy anticipation! While we waited for our food we chatted with the couple that owns and runs the Island Pita truck. They were so friendly and it's clear that they take pride in their business and serving fresh delicious made-to-order food. We unwrapped our dishes in the car and I inhaled my sandwich. It was just as delicious as I'd hoped and did not fall short of my very high expectations. The pita bread was so fluffy and all the ingredients melded together perfectly. The only thing I felt it was missing were some type of Israeli pickle to add a little more crunch. My husband barely spoke as he ate his plate and we both agreed that the hummus they make is amazing! Wow so lucky that they were parked in front of work today. I was craving fresh and healthy and they delivered. $13 for a falafel plate - super filling bc they give you 8 perfect, crunchy, fresh, delicious falafels plus a bracing red cabbage salad, super fresh Israeli salad, light and delicious hummus and a giant fluffy pita. You can get it as a pita option too. They have schwarma and kebab and schnitzel - it's awesome! Super friendly and they take credit card. I hope they come again tomorrow but I don't think they will.
