Lamb Souvlaki lamb and Chicken Souvlaki
Robert P.

I was told by a friend to give it a try since he knows how much I enjoy Greek food and that I pick it up from my favorite Kahala spot at least three times a week. I went in with an open mind and ordered the same dish I usually get so I could make a fair comparison. Unfortunately, the chicken was a little overcooked and the pita was very dry. They also served the dish with a strange mustard-type sauce that really clashed with everything. I was expecting tzatziki, which is what normally comes with this kind of dish, so that threw the balance off quite a bit. Food may look good in photo or decent but overall wasn't too impressed. We actually ordered everything to go, but after finishing a long hike we were starving, so we sat down and ate our two dishes there and planned to take the third dish to our friend's girlfriend afterward. What seemed to be the owner came over to our table and, in a pretty sassy tone, told us that next time if we planned to eat there we shouldn't order the food to go. He also added that it's the same price anyway. It felt unnecessary and pretty rude, especially since we had already tipped when we paid and the place wasn't even busy. It really left a bad impression. I really wanted to like it more, but it just didn't live up to the high bar set by Olive Tree Cafe in Kahala. Between the food and the interaction, I don't plan on returning. If the older gentleman was the owner, he might want to work on how he treats customers.

It has been a very long time since we last had lunch here but I was craving falafels and theirs are the best - homemade, from scratch, no powdered mix here. The falafels look a bit dark, but the outside is crisp and inside fluffy and green from all the herbs packed in. If you get the appy plate version they also come with an addictive tahini rich sauce. The gyros are also a solid choice - my kids inhale them. I think both of these options are solid deals. And while everything else on the menu is also homemade with care, and delicious, that's also pricy to do on Oahu in 2026. Lunch for 4 - $92 post tip. (I will still com back though!)

Decided to try Moussaka since I haven't tried it before and sounded good on the menu. Description on the menu said layered eggplant and ground meat seasoned with savory spices topped with bechamel cream. The bechamel cream had parts of it that was a little cold, could only taste some pepper. I did not taste any savory spices at all in the meat or eggplant. The only thing that had some salt was the feta cheese that was on top of the side salad that it came with. It is not worth the price. Staff didnt even come to check on us or other guests that were eating to see if everything was ok.

I came here while in Hawaii Kai for the day. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the steak, and loved the french fries with garlic dipping sauce. We sat outside and the tables were clean. Only come here if you have some time, though, because the food took a little while to come out.

Food was delicious, and the customer service was outstanding. One of the friendliest and genuine feeling places we have been to in a while.

pretty good deal, $11 for a gyro, add fries or salad for $5 more. most places charge more for a gyro. and they actually have the lamb/beef meat you can also get the gyro as a plate instead of wrapped pretty tasty with lots of filling. tzaziki was only so-so though. my co-workers love their fries. crispy and comes with like a mustard mayo dipping sauce. service was good. cashier was super friendly. he even offered to refill our takeout sodas before we left greek food is hard to find, there are such few lunch takeout spots around the island. while this place is far from my usual stomping grounds it is def a good eat if youre all the way on the east side. plus koko marina shopping center has tons of parking so thats always a plus small interior, and some seats on the outside if you want to dine in. food comes out pretty fast

gyros sandwich with crispy fries, served with Greek mayo and ketchup $15.95

I hadn't been here in awhile, but was ono for a gyros chicken sandwich, which has been really tasty in the past. Yelped on the way (YOTW should be a thing, btw) to check current menu/pricing and was pleasantly surprised to find the prices haven't really hiked like everywhere else (please don't). Ordered 2 gyros sandwiches, 1 regular and 1 chicken, and both with fries. The fries is where they get you. The sandwich was only $10.95, but you can add a salad or fries to your sando for $5. Fries were hot and crispy, cooked to perfection. And the chicken gyros hit the spot! A little bit too much mayo, though. The same server we've seen for years was still there. He seems to be the only guy running the front of house, and does a great job. He isn't the most overtly friendly, but he isn't surly and always gets the job done right, which is a win in my book. My main gripe - it's summer and we chose to sit inside, but I think the AC is broken? It wasn't as hot as sitting outside, but still stickier than we would've liked. Oh well. Food is good, price is good, service is efficient.

fried fish sandwich

Eating out these days is rough. Inflation has resulted in absurd prices and less food, but somehow, Greek Marina just found a way to say "No." My better half and I got lunch after a hike in the area, ordering the Gyro plate, fish sandwich, spanakopita, and baklava for dine in. I saw the prices and was thinking, "hmmm, are we going to get taken for a ride with high prices and small portions?" But to my delight, the friendly wait staff placed a generous order of gyro meat, Greek salad, and pita along with Tzatziki dip, a large fish sandwich, hefty spanakopita on even more salad, and a baklava that immediately made me think, "I'm glad we're sharing this." The gyro plate was delicious with slight charred and very tasty gyro shaving. The salad was delicious but slightly overdressed, not that it's really a bad thing as Greek dressing is way tasty and more importantly, way healthier than most dressings. The spanakopita was extra flaky with lots of spinach but got a bit soggy with the scoop of Tzatziki on it. Never had Tzatziki on spanakopita before, so this is a first. The fish sandwich was full of flavorful fried white fish served in a pita. I thought, "this is too much meat" which then triggered the thought of "first world problems." We ate literally everything and then toyed with the idea of getting baklava. As we rarely eat Greek food, it was a relatively easy choice and the baklava was absolutely yummy, with crispy layers of baked filo dough, nuts, and honey along with two dollops of whipped cream. Staff are polite, efficient, but the place got busy as the lunch crowd came in. Bathroom is located in the restaurant and is relatively clean. You have the option of indoor or outdoor seating. Parking is shared with the other tenants. Would recommend, especially if you're on the Hawaii Kai side of the island looking for Greek food.

After hiking Makapu'u with the dogs, we stopped by Greek Marina for dinner. Such a great location in the Koko Marina Center. Since we had our pups with us, we sat outside and the ambiance was really nice. I believe I saw another table outside that BYOB'd! So a great option to pau hana with friends. Me and my friend both ordered the gyros and the eggplant appetizer to share. The gyros isn't a sandwich/wrap like we expected but more like a gyro plate that comes with salad and pita. If I were to get this dish again- I'd probably order a side of rice to better complete the meal. For the appetizer we were between the fries, calamari, and then went with the eggplant- thinking we were making the healthier choice. The eggplant was so oily... and just left us with uneasy stomachs and very burpy. I will say, the service was very friendly and prompt. They were so nice to us and our pups on the patio.

This restaurant is located in the Koko Marina shopping center. The restaurant has inside seating and outside seating, however, the inside has no AC and they just open the door. Since there is no AC running inside, we selected to sit outside, with a little breeze blowing, not that really hot. The view is nice and we can see the marina. We had lunch over there on a Sunday afternoon, only one guy was working on the floor, therefore, the service is a little bit slow. We ordered fried calamari for appetizer, as you can see in my photo, the calamari is very small, almost look like a leftover from the pot, hardly any meat to it. We were not happy about that. Me and my wife both ordered the gyros, it comes with salad and pita. The portion is pretty big and we cannot finish it. I do think the meat is a little bit on the oily side, I am not sure if they fried it before serving to us. My friend ordered an appetizer (Falafel) and a salad, the falafel is pretty good, they flies it and serves with some vegetable. We love Greek food especially gyros so, we will go back from time to time.

Mara is located on the first floor of the Renaissance Hotel. Turn right as you enter through the glass doors. We were seated promptly and given our menus. The carafe of water on the table was a nice touch with the matching glasses that created a blue hue with the water in it. It set the ambiance of the Mediterranean Sea. My friend ordered the MAMMA MIA Cocktail composed of Meili Vodka, Strawberry, Basil, Honey, Greek Yogurt and she enjoyed it. Next, my friend ordered the WHIPPED BURRATA Roasted Beets, Walnuts, Pomegranate Molasses. The beets were flavorful as we paired it with the savory cheese and pita bread that accompanied it. This dish was delicately sweet and the walnuts created an even balance to the velvety beets. My friend ordered the PHYLLO-CRUSTED SNAPPER SANDWICH Caper Aioli, Athenian Slaw, Citronette. She enjoyed the crunchiness of the batter and the juiciness of the fish. The accompaniments also made her dish shine. I ordered the Grilled Kebabs Chicken plate with rice. This came with ZA'ATAR FLATBREAD Tzatziki, Cucumber & Tomato Shirazi. The 2 skewers of chicken breast had the charred flavor that paired well with the flatbread, rice, and Tzaziki. The cucumber and tomato added a cool crunch. Lastly, we wanted to try the dessert. We ordered the GREEK YOGURT SOFT SERVE fully loaded. The toppings included: Baklava Crumble, Sour Cherry, Olive Oil & Sea Salt, and Honey. The soft serve was creamy and tangy and perfectly balanced. The toppings such as the Baklava crumble had a buttery crunch. The Sour Cherry had a bold tart punch that blended with the creaminess of the soft serve. The drizzle of the Olive Oil and Sea Salt tingled my tastebuds. Finally, the honey tied everything together with its golden sweetness that lingered on my palate. This dessert was fabulous, rich and decadent, a standout in my opinion. This was my favorite part of the meal. Also, our server Phoebe G. made our experience at Mara so enjoyable. She would always check up on us and make sure we were taken care of. We will indeed return to Mara to experience excellent customer service and delightful Mediterranean flavors.

The Bocconcino Whipped Burrata was a recommendation from our waitress and this was my favorite dish! So thankful she recommended it. I have never had anything like it before. The dip is made from roasted beets, walnuts, and pomegranate molasses. Because it was whipped, the texture was so light. It was perfect. The Greek Salad and Brussels Sprouts were only ok. I did not expect there to be as many tomatoes as there were and I wasn't really a fan of it for the price. My husband enjoyed the scallops and he recommends giving it a try. TLDR: definitely get the Bocconcino Whipped Burrata!

A few stucco columns and beams and a fountain in the center of the informal dining area. There's no table service - go to the cashier and order. The gyro can't be beat. Compliment this with a greek salad, add hummus and pita and you got yourself one heck of a meal. Tried the balaclava for the first time and I have to admit that it's the best I've ever eaten. So tasty... a hint of cinnamon which I love. I love that they serve it with a small yet ample serving of honey. There's no alcohol served here but BYOB is accepted. Price is great for the quality of food prepared and served here. Best thing is don't just believe me... I'm someone you don't know, but try out yourself. By the way Yamas isn't a Japanese word or a shot cut to the owners Japanese name. It's a Greek like saying "cheers," or " to our health!"
