Tried this place at the Waikiki makers market on Mondays. They were kindly giving out generous samples of the mushroom truffle spaetzle and it won us over so we had to buy a full portion. They made it fresh to order so it was piping hot and full of mushrooms and the kale was a nice contrast too. The truffle flavor was perfect and not too overwhelming. I really liked that they pan fried it to add a nice crunch and texture to the spaetzle which is usually just soft and one dimensional. Definitely would recommend! It was $19 and a good size portion for the price. It's pretty rich so recommend sharing it.
Yummy Friday lunch spot in Kaimuki! This German Egg Noodle place is nestled in the alleyway next to Yoga Under the Palms building along Waialae Avenue. Seating is very limited (2 tables with two chairs each) due to the nature of the space. For Lunch, I ordered the Truffle Mushroom (half) and added Chicken ($2.50) and it was pretty filling! I love the flavor profile of this combination. I also like the texture of the noodles combined with the crunch of the greens, gooeyness of the cheese, and the softness of the mushrooms. Highly recommend adding a protein to balance out the flavors. :) Service was quick and friendly. Overall a wonderful experience, I was satisfied and will definitely stop by again to try the other items on their menu!
First visit to their kitchen. I initially visited a couple of years ago at the Kaka'ako Farmers Market - they are also vendors at the Kailua and Honolulu Farmers Markets. They are in an alley -literally an alley that leads to their kitchen; next to Yoga Under the Palms on the corner of Waialae Avenue and Sierra Drive. Visited their IG which provides a link that you can order takeaway from, as I did online via Square. I had the Truffle Mushroom Spätzle... spätzle being a Southern German egg noodle dish. It was salty, citrusy, and earthy with musrooms, cheese, fried garlic, herbs, kale, and a Lemon Black Pepper Truffle Aioli. Fantastic.
Good hearty spaetzle with tasty local and international flavors. I had the truffle mushroom bowl. It comes with lots of veggies and has a delicious umami rich buttery sauce. Service is friendly but expect to wait 8-10 minutes for your order as everything is made to order. They give out lots of free samples so you can try their latest creations. They normally have a special bowl as well. While you're waiting you can browse the other booths and puck up some fresh vegetables or fruits, too.

I have been driving past their popup for weekends on Waialae for a while now and decided to finally give it a try. The entrance is a small alley way right between Yoga Under the Palms and Napa. It can be super easy to miss, but on their days of operation (Friday-Sunday 11am-5pm) they have signs out and chalk drawn on the ground to guide you to their location. They have two tables that each seat two people, although this place is primarily take out. I got the Veggie spaetzle which was very yummy! I am not so much of a pasta person, but it was fun that the noodles were all different shapes. It had a great flavor and it had plenty of mushrooms. I am usually a mushroom hater, but I ate them all--it was that good. My only complaint is that the prices are a bit steep, but you do get a good amount of food. I am not sure if I will come again, as I am not a pasta eater, but I could see so many people who are loving this place!
I got the Poipu from Little Sparrow at the Blaisdell Farmers Market. Little Sparrow sells their handmade Spaetzle, which is a type of German pasta. Their original Spaetzle was very tasty -- freshly made and full of flavor. The portion was generous, especially for $14, and totally worth it. They made each order fresh, and it was so delicious! You should definitely try it sometime. Thank you for the wonderful pasta!
Caught them at their pop-up and WOW. I didn't realize spaetzle was a German egg noodle dish (which I can't have with my allergies), but the team was so kind and they made me a custom veggie spaetzle-style dish with rice instead, and it hit the spot! Cozy, hearty, flavorful They're often at farmers markets across Oahu, but if you can find their pop-up, highly recommend. They also had a promo for free blackberry lemonade, and let me tell you... I don't usually even like lemonade, but this one was light, balanced, and refreshing. Already planning my next visit!
Been having their bowls for a few months back to back at the Mililani market. My husband's favorite is the one with kale and mushroom. It's cooked fresh to order, consistently delicious, and when we make eggs to go with it, easily can be a quick lunch for two people. When I see them at other markets as well, I always get in line.
Found it!! Been looking for the pop up spot in Kaimuki for awhile. It said near Napa Auto Parts but it actually it's in a small narrow alleyway between the Napa Auto building and the building where there's a yoga business. There's solid wall with pink/peach flowers painted on. I think it used to be some kind of video room or if you're old like me, The Pottery Restaurant. Very easy to miss. If it wasn't for the chalk signs on the sidewalk and the menu board, we would've walked right by. No parking- use the municipal lot across the street or maybe sneak in the Napa lot. There are 2 little tables set up but mostly take out. Their hours are Friday to Sunday 11am to 5 pm. So... Späetzle....in case you aren't familiar, it like an egg noodle pasta which is served as a side. Here it's a meal in itself. We had the OG cheese one which was very creamy and VERY cheesy! Kind of like an elevated Mac and cheese. There are other options with mushrooms, shrimp, kalua pork. We got the 1/2 bowl portion which was still pretty filling! Very yummy! So glad to have späetzle in town!!

Every week I go I support their business by getting their food, which is very delicious and customizable so if you do not like mushrooms , you can take the mushrooms out of your dish. Day specialize in spetzel , which is German egg noodle. The service is always amazing. The staff being knowledgeable about their menu items as well as making recommendations if asked. They do have a physical location located in Kaimuki located at 3574 Waialae Ave. But if you blink you will miss it. It is in a little alley in between Napa Auto Parts and Yoga Under The Palms on Waialae. The ambience can vary depending on where you get their food.If you are at a farmer's market, you have a wonderful outdoor view with seating available on the grass as well as concrete, whereas, if you go to their physical location, they have 2 tables and 4 chairs located in the little alley way where their restaurant is.The restaurant is a walk up window and all of their food is take out.

I ran into their brick and mortar location conveniently located in Kaimuki on Waialae directly next to my dance space at Yoga Under the Palms. Owners were so kind sbd welcoming and hella accommodating with substitutions and suggestions. I ordered the tuffle mushroom Spaetzle and MY LIFE IS CHANGED!!! EPIC EPIC EPIC!!! I'll definitely be back to enjoy all of their other offerings ASAP!
Had seen a menu for this place at one of my jobs and couldn't quite figure out where this was or what the food was. Then one day by as I was running around Kaimuki headed to Napa for some things I saw it in a.small alley right after Yoga after the Palms. Some of my favorite spots are holes in a wall but I would call this place a hole in a hall. By chance they had just opened and I was starving. I got the half order of the poipu which is that killer blend of kalua, pineapple, jalapeño, and a nice basil sauce. The vessel is a German noodle or dumpling. But not like a Chinese dumpling or an Italian noodle, if anything it's like an egg noodle meets a gnocchi and they have a baby. They look handmade even and are pillowy soft and filling. Honestly this little bowl hit great. It filled me up perfectly and tasted great. I think everything is about ratio and the cook knows how to give you the perfect amount of each tasty ingredient to make for the perfect bite. I'm really interested in trying the other variations, I'm sure they all must be tasty. All in all felt very serendipitous stumbling upon this place and it's always fun to try a dish I've never had before. They also have specials running like burgers and brats if you want something meaty. The people working I'm assuming were the owners and they were very kind and cool. They have 2 small tables in the alley if you want to eat it there but nothing to accommodate a large party. Prices are super reasonable. High rec for anyone working in Kaimuki if you want to change it up. Nice addition to the neighborhood. Check them out! read more

This place came highly recommended to me by a friend who stumbled upon this place at the farmers market, and I'm so glad I gave this place a shot! This is something I never thought I'd look for, as it's German pasta. Currently, little sparrow is operating at farmers market and I think they had their first pop up event in a micro kitchen. They said they'll open an actual location soon, so I caught them at the kaka ako Saturday market. I got the poipu ($19), and it was a generous portion. The pineapple and jalepenos added a wonderful surprise to a pesto based dish, so yummy and unique. We also tried a sample of something more typical, it was chicken and mushroom. That was yummy too and a safe choice, but I'm glad I tried something different! read more

I've tried Little Sparrow before at the farmer's market and was so excited to hear about their pop-up! It's in a little alleyway between Napa and Yoga Under the Palms but you can't really miss it because they have directions to it written in chalk on the sidewalk (such a cute idea). It's a little window that you order from and there's no seating area so it's take-out only. If you're not on a time crunch and want to sit and eat, my friends and I went to the park across the street and ate there! There aren't too many menu items but I will say that each item on their menu looks extremely appetizing and we had a difficult time deciding what to choose because of that. The woman who took our orders was super sweet and kind so service was definitely on point! The food was obviously DELICIOUS. My friends got the CBM and I got the garlic shrimp bowl which all of them were extremely flavorful and filled with toppings. These are some heavy, dense spaetzle bowls so I would definitely say that's its worth the price (price range is $13-22). I would definitely recommend supporting this small local business and I will for sure be back :) read more

Little Sparrow was at the Wednesday evening Blaisdell Farmer's Market. You know when the line is long at the farmer's market, the food is going to be good! I got the truffle mushroom spaetzle. I've never heard of spaetzle before, but if I had to describe it, it's like a fried gnocchi. I love the texture of it. The toppings that they used were of high quality, and it was definitely worth the wait in line. It was more than enough food to feed one person. The only downside of this farmer's market is that there's not many places to eat. We ended up sitting on some random steps. read more
I saw them at the Farmers Market on wednesdays and their booth had a really great smell coming from it, and was surprised to learn about spaetzle as a first time enjoyer. I've always seen a long line for Little Sparrow at the Mililani Farmers Market on Sunday mornings... but I never tried their food until recently! The lady taking my order was so nice and friendly! Make me feel comfortable ordering as a first timer! I decided on their CBM which comes with Spinach lemon spaetzle, grilled chicken, mushrooms, bacon, garlic, hearty greens, house cheese blend, scallions, and paprikash sauce. The bowl was $17 and the portion was enough to feed my mom and I. It was nice and warm, savory, and cheesy! There was little cheese pulls as I was eating and that made me really happy! I can't wait to try more of their menu the next time I see them :) read more

As someone who grew up eating home-cooked Spätzle, I was delighted to find this place at the farmers market either Kailua on Thursday evenings or Kakako on Saturday mornings. This is especially true in O'ahu, where there isn't much German or central European food available. Food is bursting with flavor and fresh veggies toppings. Have tried all flavors, but enjoy the truffle the best. The noodles are freshly made and definitely have the right texture, flavor and composition. They would be Oma approved! Service has always been friendly and the wait time is typically 10 minutes after placing order, so don't wander off to far and make them shout your name out aimlessly. read more

Spätzle - or Spaetzle written without the umlaut - German egg noodle pasta with a chewy, dumpling-like texture. Spätzle is very popular in Central and Eastern Europe, so I was surprised to see it on island! What a treat for us! Why they named it Little Sparrow? The literal translation of Spätzle is Little Sparrow. Located at farmers market such as the Kaakako market on Saturday (8-12pm) and Kailua market on Thursdays (4-7pm). This is one of the best homemade Spätzle I've had, my German friend highly approves since he grew up eating this from his grandma. They have a variety of speciality Spätzle to choose from, including OG Cheesy, CBM Spätzle, Truffle Spätzle etc. They were all amazing! Soft, chewy but still crispy. Balanced flavors. My favorite is the truffle because I'm a big truffle lover. Very filling as well! Service is always good! Usually takes about 10 minutes to be ready, but you can just walk around other vendors to see what else your tummy wants to eat :) Highly recommend this place next time you find yourself at the farmer's market! read more

Went here on Wednesday night, it was amazing, had the Greek spaetzle and it was perfect, especially the braised lamb, which was absolutely incredible, no fat, little bits that were crispy, better than anything I've ever had. Then we found out they were having the grand opening of their kitchen and physical space on Friday at 3574 Waialae and went there again for that! Remembered to take pictures this time. It is the best food I've had on the island, no joke!! read more

Thank you!!! My small family does not like Thanksgiving meal yet it is hard for me to miss all the comfort flavors. I am very particular about the "Thanksgiving" food I like and grew up with. Little sparrow delivered all my favorite holiday flavors with a fresh and farm to table healthy aspect. The Thanksgiving menu has so many great starters, sides and desserts. "Your spaetzle specialist in Hawaii" We haven't had good spaetzle offering since the days of the Swiss Inn and the European/ pasty place in Kahala Mall many years ago. Little Sparrow uses spaetzle as their carb base for their delicious, made when you order bowls that can easily feed two with a nice salad on the side. The menu is not a long one but you'll definitely find a tasty bowl. We opted for a favorite, the garlic shrimp bowl- the flavoring was perfect and the large shrimp, generous. They have a veggie option too. Fresh ingredients cooked right in front of you when you order, it takes a couple of minutes but it's definitely worth the wait. Townside they are located at the Blaisdell farmers market on Wednesday and the ward/Kakaako open market on Saturdays. If you haven't given then a try they are worth a look, 'cause then you'll get hooked! :) Support local! read more
