Sha-coma... The generous amount of portions that they give you in their plates are something to behold as I've been wanting to visit Shaloha Pita for quite some time and with all the wonderful reviews today was the perfect time to give them a visit. Arriving for a late lunch/early dinner was nice as the area wasn't as crowded and parking at the small shared lot was a breeze, it seems like they close their restaurant to the public and you order at the counter from outside but after placing my order at the counter and was told it would take about 10 minutes. I decided on the Eggplant Plate since I do love eggplants and when I picked it up was surprised with how heavy it was and wondered how can that be. First of all it's like a mini buffet going on in there with white and red cabbage, Israeli Salad, hummus, turmeric rice and if that's not enough two huge pitas as well. The eggplant was excellent and with about eight slices was nice though still felt it was a bit pricey and wished that they had a mini plate as this amount of food is quite wasteful as I don't see myself finishing it all. The Israeli salad I just didn't like way too much parsley for me and hummus...was okay I love hummus but this didn't do much for me personally, the rice was like one huge mochi all completely mushy the cabbage both white and red I did like and finished it all as for the pita I didn't touch it at all and will take it home for a sandwich I guess but as nice as the value for the meal it's unnecessarily too much. Thanks!

I might be missing the point here--maybe the "pile-everything-on-a-plate" approach is intentional--but for me, it didn't land well. The initial smell when I opened the bag was unappealing... The flavors were lacking, and while the portion size was massive, the nearly $30 price tag made me wish I had something smaller that I actually enjoyed. The attached photo shows what was left after I picked through it... it is going to waste. I was hoping to try something new today--unfortunately, it was disappointing. I can see the place has plenty of glowing reviews, and that's what drew me in. But based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend it.

Wow!!! Just wow!!! Let me just say, get the Chicken shawarma plate and you'll be satisfyingly set for 2 full meals! And only for about $24!!! They give lots of chicken shawarma, mixed veggies that have kind of a minty flavor, green and purple cabbage, and yellow rice. With 3 different sauces (red is little on the hotter side, yellow has that oily but smooth texture and taste, and white which kinda tastes like milder ranch but is still super good). All of that mixed together is an amazing explosion of flavor in your mouth. And the best part about it is you have a second meal of that for whenever u feel like lol. Also comes with pita bread and hummus. Yum!! Parking is a little bit tight and the lot has maybe about 6-8 stalls but I usually find street parking then walk over. Staff is super friendly too. And normally parking and convenience would knock off a star, but since the food is soo good that I always find myself coming back for more, it's an easy 5 stars!

Since the previous review, I've switched over to vegetarianism, the prices have increased , Shaloha didn't utilize the Chow Now app, and there was a counter for indoor dining ( with surfboard on the wall ) but the parking ( at least there is parking for customers of the small strip mall ) is still lousy. I got the Hummus Plate - $23.99 - which is portioned for 2 moderately hungry humans. It took me over an hour to finish it all...but I managed it. In all fairness, I was hungry and as stated in my initial review, I can eat like a pig...proven. Hummus, with cabbage, pickled red cabbage, tabouleh, Israeli salad, and all on top of a bed of rice. Two pitas - baked in-house - are included. The Falafel Plate is also a good option. I can attest that the Schnitzel and Shaloha Plates are also excellent. I used to consider the schnitzel my favorite...not a strict vegetarian, I may yet enjoy this on some occasion. Ordered via the app Chow Now...better option for mobile ordering in terms of the business. Parking stalls number about 10, but is shared by 5 businesses and storefront parking is up an incline...not bad when the lot is empty but when full...tight quarters for reverse parking or perpendicular, for that matter. Owner is not as present in the front as previously. Nice guy...a surfer who is originally from Israel. I've found Lebanese and Israeli food in Honolulu...just gors to show what a diverse community exists here.

    Generous portions again

One of our family's standard take-out dinner places when we don't have time to cook dinner. We used to order around 6-8 times a year and have ordered party platters for events. We swore off this place about 1 year ago after we felt their "labor fee" (~10%) and "processing fee" ($0.99) for online orders were not fair relative to the amount of food we received. I normally tip on my takeout orders anyways. Not sure why they didn't raise their menu prices post-COVID vs adding the additional fees? We are 2 adults and 3 kids (all growing) so volume of food is important. Most people cannot eat an entire plate which is around 3lbs of food. We decided to give it a try again this week after our long break. There just aren't many options for this cuisine. We were pleasantly surprised that the portions remained very generous despite inflation. The food was as good as before (chef is the same). We think that even with the additional fees, the food at Shaloha represents a good value. The sheer size and packing of the food may turn off some people. It ain't pretty (but tastes ono). We ordered 4 plates (1 falafel and 3 chicken at $23.75 ea) for our family of 2 adults and 3 tween children. We had an entire plate as leftovers. The pita bread (and chips) is as good as ever. 2 pita breads per plate order. The staff is hit and miss (no smiles or hello) but I can't complain as the new front of house is very generous with her portions. I also hear it can be a difficult work environment with the number of orders, the limited space, and the personalities. But there is no dine-in, so this is not a problem for patrons. Shaloha Pita is back in my takeout rotation until they raise their prices or pack less food in their containers. Best takeout Mediterranean in the area by far, but not the best on the island. I think the food (3/5) and value (5/5) are better here than at the Olive Tree Cafe (under new management) in Kahala. The only better food is at Istanbul in Ward, but it is more expensive. I liked Leila Kaimuki when it was serving middle eastern and have also dined at Mara (Sera).

Shaloha Pita is the first and only Israeli restaurant I have ever eaten at. To my surprise, I consider it to be the best food on the island. It is fresh, huge portions, healthy, and an assortment of sides that are part of the meal. The food is very flavorful, and the three sauces are unique, different, and delicious. One meal could feed a person for three meals, so the price is well worth it. The ingredients are of high quality.

Great service! They saw I was overheated from walking blocks to get there ( its a long story but it was totally worth it) , gave me a cup of ice water and quickly took my order. I got the chicken schwarma sandwich. It was huge!!!! Lots and lots of curry chicken and veggies. The tahini was excellent! I love this place! Thanks again for your aloha!

Food: Yummy food. One of our favorite spots when attending UH athletic events. Shaloha plate is a favorite along with the fried pita chips and hummus. Service: Pleasant and Pretty quick -just 10 minutes after a phone order on a week night. Facility : Not a full service restaurant. No tables. Just a walk-up counter -no seating. Carryout. Minimal parking spots in front. Location: Convenient to UH and across from Chamanade. We will definitely return.

My GOODNESS. the amount of food we got here for lunch! We went right when I hey opened at 11 and were third in line. The food took about 5 mins to come out after we ordered. The girl working was friendly and efficient! It's a very small walk up place, no seating, parking is tight. Prices are reasonable too. First off, this meal was so colorful and hit the spot. Between the two of us we should have split the combo plate and we would still have a meal left for us both! The plates were so heavy and filled up the whole take out box! Plenty of sauces, and the pitas were massive. Pillowy and delectable - best ones I've had. I will come back just for those! Fresh tasting, and looking. Big fan of everything on the plate - zesty and delicious and the flavors went perfectly together. I have to bring my friends and family here. I have plenty of leftovers now! Yay!

The best Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food on the island! After a long day at the beach, we were craving something fresh and healthy instead of the usual plate lunches--and we're so glad we found this gem. From the moment we walked up, the owner (Sage, I believe) greeted us with the warmest smile and made us feel instantly welcome. I had already checked Yelp and knew I wanted to try the Shaloha Plate. At first, my boyfriend thought about ordering something else, but Sage insisted the Shaloha Plate was huge and more than enough for two people. He even joked, "If you can finish it, I'll give you another plate," which made us all laugh. While our food was being prepared, Sage surprised us with complimentary pita chips piled high with silky-smooth hummus. You can tell it's made with care--the chickpeas are peeled, giving it that perfect creamy texture most places don't bother with. As if that wasn't enough, he kept bringing out fresh, warm pita bread while we chatted, so by the time we headed home, we were already happily full. And then we opened the Shaloha Plate. Wow. It was massive. The chicken, cooked in lamb fat, was incredibly flavorful and tender. Paired with the hummus, tangy cabbage, and fresh herby salad, it was pure perfection. Every bite felt vibrant, balanced, and made with love. The shop itself has no seating, but it's clean, and you can see all the fresh ingredients and bread being prepared right in front of you. If you're on the island and craving Middle Eastern food, this place is a must. Generous portions, amazing flavors, and an owner who truly goes above and beyond--you'll leave full, happy, and planning your next visit.

    Falafel Pita Sandwich

Found this place on a whim and knew I had to make a trip sooner rather than later, since I've been dying to have good falafel. Ended up putting a phone order in and got the shaloha plate, falafel pita, and extra pitas (6 count.) They said it would take about 15 minutes, but it ended up taking longer than that, which was fine since it allowed me some time to get there. When looking at some of the photos on Yelp, I noticed that someone weighed their shaloha plate and it was 3 pounds--lemme tell you, they were NOT lying! The bag of food was so heavy, I couldn't believe it! We still have some leftovers, and that's after 3 people split everything. Prices aren't cheap but it's totally worth it based on all the food you get. I might try the chicken shawarma plate next time...don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved the falafel, but the chicken shawarma is just a nostalgic dish for me. I got to sample it in the shaloha plate, but I needed more lol. Definitely recommend coming here if you're craving this kind of food. I will be coming back for sure.

    Shaloha Plate (combo of Shawarma,Schnitzel,Falafel,Eggplant w/turmeric rice,tabbouleh,Israeli salad,red/white cabbage,hummus & 2 pitas)

Great take-out Mediterranean food in Kaimuki! It's nestled among a few shops/eateries (across Chaminade University) on the corner of 3rd & Waialae Ave. There's only ~a dozen parking stalls, but most people are in/out in a short period of time so if you just wait or go around & re-enter, you can usually get a space. Plates: you can choose Shawarma, Schnitzel, Falafel, Eggplant or Hummus. Each plate has a generous portion of turmeric rice, tabbouleh, Israeli salad, red & white cabbage, hummus & 2 large pitas. If you can't decide on one item (like me), you can order the "Shaloha Plate" which has a combination of all of the above items! Everything is made to order, so it's very fresh. At first glance at the menu it seems a little pricey, but the portions are very generous & are enough for a couple of meals! My Shaloha plate (~$28) was packed with food & seemed to weigh 5 lbs! I couldn't eat it all in one sitting, so it served as two meals for me. Each of the above selections can also be ordered as a pita sandwich. We also tried the Falafel Sandwich (~$18). It was stuffed with freshly fried falafels & hummus, tabbouleh, Israeli salad, red/white cabbage, tahini sauce. If you're hungry, this will definitely fill you up! If you're in the area & craving good Mediterranean food, check this place out!

I had visited their sister location the night before in Waikīkī and had such a great experience that I told my wife, "If this place is anything like last night, we're in for something good." She agreed--and we decided to give it a shot. Right when we walked in, we were greeted by Colby, a tall, friendly guy with a great attitude. I mentioned my experience from the night before, and he immediately said he wanted to live up to that standard. That kind of response set a really positive tone. We ordered two Aroma Specials: Dolce & Banana (me) Nutella Latte (my wife) For food, we went with: P.B. Delight açaí bowl Turkey pesto panini Bacon & egg bagel Total came out to about $62, which we expected given the location near the beach. We grabbed a seat inside by the window (outside seating was full--no surprise on such a beautiful morning). Our drinks came out quickly--but unfortunately, this is where things started a little rough. We both noticed right away that something was off. My wife's Nutella latte didn't have that rich hazelnut flavor you'd expect, and my Dolce & Banana was missing the banana entirely. Honestly, they tasted almost identical. When I politely mentioned it to a staff member who brought out our food, the response felt dismissive and didn't really address the concern--which was disappointing and definitely not the experience we were hoping for. At that point, we decided to just enjoy the food and move forward--and I'm glad we did, because the food was fantastic. The turkey pesto panini was loaded with flavor, perfectly crispy on the outside, and packed with melty cheese. The bacon & egg bagel was hearty, well-balanced, and super satisfying. The P.B. Delight açaí bowl was the surprise standout--perfectly blended, fresh, and the peanut butter added an awesome richness that made it feel like a treat. Everything on the food side absolutely delivered. A few minutes later, Colby came by to check on us--and this is where the entire experience turned around. I let him know honestly: "The food is amazing, but the coffee missed the mark." Without hesitation, without attitude, and without making excuses, he said, "Hang on, let me fix that." I even told him not to worry about it--we were enjoying ourselves regardless--but he insisted. "Rick, I got you," he said. Within minutes, he came back with two freshly made drinks and a sincere apology. We took a sip and immediately--night and day difference. The Nutella latte had that rich, distinct hazelnut flavor. The Dolce & Banana finally had that smooth, balanced banana note Exactly what we were hoping for the first time. Colby is the MVP Colby completely turned this experience around. His attitude never changed--he was smiling, positive, kind, and genuinely cared about making things right. No defensiveness, no excuses--just great customer service and follow-through. That kind of service is rare, and it matters. It's evident that not all the workers have that same dedication to customer service but Colby does! What could have been a disappointing visit ended up being a great one because of him. Hawaiian Aroma Caffè--take care of this young man! He represents your business incredibly well. He needs to be leading your team on what customer service looks like and they need to follow his lead. From naming customers by their first name, to holding that perfect smile the entire time, to checking in with guests after receiving their meals and really caring about their experience. Colby naturally has it and should be showing every one how to do it as well! The Future Looks Bright for Colby and if you don't take of him, someone smart will! Final Thoughts Great food, great location, and a really cool atmosphere--but what stood out most was the service recovery. Mistakes happen anywhere. What matters is how they're handled--and Colby handled it perfectly. Because of him, we'll absolutely be back. Thank you again, Colby--keep doing your thing. You made our day. - Dr. Rick
