Namasu, potato macaroni salad, and maki sushi.
    Jackie K.

Ordered basic catered meal with sushi from Ige's Catering Service. See picture for types of food. The food was tasty and the pricing reasonable. The order was for 20 persons. Although the Namasu was small in portion, it was crisp and freshly made! The shoyu pork was tender and delicious. Scheduled pick up was easy and Ige's was on time. They even offered to put the food in my car. They do require payment ahead of time.

My mixed plate (shoyu pork, fried chicken, potato mac salad, maki sushi, fried noodles and namasu.

I first heard of Ige's Catering Service "IGS" at my previous job where apparently, this is a common place many Kama'ainas patronize. Birthdays, graduation parties and celebration of life - - IGS is where many people use. You can do catering and pick-up or catering and set up. Recently, my boss asked me to come here and pick up pre-ordered and pre-paid food for an office meeting. I was given the time for pick-up and although was advised a receipt wasn't necessary, I brought it along just in case. Located in the Mapunapuna area, this was an easy place to find. I used to go to Servco Toyota to service my car and IGS is next to Fisher's Hawaii. IGS shares the same address as Masa's Cafeteria, where the food is all prepared. We pulled in shortly before the pick-up time and came prepared with some cardboard boxes as I was told ahead of time picking up of shoyu pork and namasu, which both have liquid. I sure didn't want to get the car dirty so I came prepared. While walking in to Masa's Cafeteria, we noticed the hot food offerings fro the day and there were a handful of people who were already eating and could hear the voice of Drew Carey hosting The Price is Right game show. At the cashier, I showed the staff my receipt and name. She then asked us to wait on the side as she'll inform the staff on IGS. In a couple of minutes a very polite male staff came to introduce himself. They were finishing up packing our order and advised us to wait outside in the parking lot to load our food into our car. The male staff came to the parking lot with a cart of trays and assisted us loading the food into the trunk. To our surprise and delight, the shoyu pork and namasu were both packaged nicely with garbage bags to prevent leakage and spillage. Major bonus points in my books. So customer service oriented. We drove back from Mapunapuna to Kaimuki and glad to report there were no issues with the food spilling. To my surprise, a couple of trays were still nice and warm. The food was pretty good. They are known for their shoyu pork and sure didn't disappoint. For me, I really liked their namasu and maki sushi. The namasu had a great balance between sugar and vinegar. The vegetables still had a crunch to it. The maki sushi had Hana Ebi, or the red and green colored shrimp flakes. I remember this very well from my childhood days where we'd make sushi at school for special occasions such as boy's and girl's day. The star of this catering was the andagi, or deep fried Okinawan donuts. It still had that crunchy exterior and was still warm when I ate one. It was so good that I went for another one and another one. Aiyah!!! If I had to mention something non-positive, that would have to be the fried chicken. To my surprise, they used chicken thighs and chopped it into smaller pieces before frying, which in my opinion can be a hazard with the bone shards. The chicken pieces were also not uniform as some pieces were clearly much larger and some much smaller. What alarmed me was that while we were eating, I heard a comment in the room where one colleague mentioned "Feels like I'm at a funeral." To be honest, I probably have experienced attending more Chinese funerals where you attend a post funeral luncheon at a Chinese restaurant to dine family-style. I've heard Ige's being popular at local funerals. At any rate, the food sure didn't disappoint. Overall, for the amount paid the catered food from IGS was very reasonable. The food quality was above average and with generous portions. Definitely a good option if you're looking for a caterer. 2019 #110

    Ige's Bento

Ige's Catering deserves a 5-star rating for several reasons. Their food is just darn delicious! From the bentos with nishime, shoyu pork, fried tofu, andagi, Okinawa sweet potato and takuan. Debbie and Anna were great! They stayed open late so we're could prepay and added a few extras. The order was ready on-time and when picking up our bentos, they helped load them in our car. I would definitely order from Ige's Catering again!

They catered my cousin's son-in-law's Celebration of Life...

A Celebration of Life in Hawaii is more than a gathering of friends and family... there's usually a slide show and/or poster board full of photos... we share memories and funny stories about our loved one...and...of course... the food is important! Remembering a person is such a bittersweet event. On one hand, I'm so sad that a great human being has left this earth and moved on. At the same time, I'm happy to see my family and enjoy yummy food and share fond memories of my cousin. After the eulogy and slideshow presentation, we we invited to eat lunch... I had a maki sushi, then had another because I wanted to repeat that ono flavor and texture. The namasu was refreshing and not too vinegary or sweet. The macaroni potato salad wasn't too mayonnaise-y and not too dry. The shoyu pork, noodles, and fried chicken are consistently delicious. The andagi put me over the top and inspired me to write this review. It was soft and sweet on the inside and lightly crunchy on the outside... I read Leah's review and decided to join her in chiming in about Ige's Catering Service. Thanks to Ige's for adding to this successful memorial service!

    Funeral Menu Options

I went back and forth regarding whether or not I should write a review for Ige's because I ate their food last night at a funeral and it seems strange to promote a business on such a somber occasion... There was an estimated 700 people in attendance at this celebration of life and I was absolutely blown away by the quality, quantity and customer service that was displayed by the Ige's staff. When I arrived at the venue at 5:30, the Ige's van was pulling in with more food... the kitchen area was packed and hundreds had already been fed. When we left around 7:30, over 700 people had been fed and the Ige's staff put out plate lunch containers for families to take home leftovers... this is the point when I decided that I was going to take a picture (of trays still full of food) and give Ige's the props they rightfully deserve. I visited their website and noticed that they have a catering menu and a funeral menu (photo attached). The family chose Menu A and everything was tasty. The shoyu pork was absolutely delicious. The punch service was also available but I chose to visit the dessert table instead (the family had a pot luck dessert bar). Mahalo Ige's for going the extra mile to provide comfort food for our local communities during such a stressful and challenging time.

Being of mixed race, I've been exposed to many cultures within my own family. So long story short, Fukuya has been around since the 1930's and I've stopped by countless times over the years. Not my favorite Okazuya, but definitely one of the busiest with one of the largest selections! Authentic, convenient, & open before 5am! In the end, I highly recommend Fukuya for those that live in Hawaii with roots that go back generations to the plantation days. Heck, I'd recommend to just about anyone who loves simple picnic foods that our grandparents once enjoyed. Not much has changed over the years except the bright building and prices. 5 Stars plus! If…read moreyou're not a fan of long reviews, please stop reading and just book Kuoha Culinary right away...there are so many wonderful things to say here. We selected Kuoha Culinary for a small family Celebration of Life for our dad. Chef Ed is so kind and easy to work with. He's busy and he secured our date upon initial communication and assured me he'd provide a preliminary proposal within a few weeks. Here's how I described our catering goals for Ed: Hoping for a fusion of local style comfort foods in an elevated style, fine restaurant quality but "not overly fancy" with several protein options and several veggie options. 2 vegetarian guests, not sure if we need dessert catered. Having never booked catering before, I based our budget on previous restaurant celebrations and gave Ed a very, very wide price per head range and told him I'd prefer if we didn't get too close to the higher end of our price range. As promised, Ed returned with a preliminary proposal and it was lower in price than I expected and included more dishes than I had thought we'd get. Ed recommended drop off service as being the most cost effective and easy option for our event. I requested changes to all three entrees and added a few vegetables and the price remained excellent due to my changes balancing each other out. In our phone consultation, Ed answered my questions clearly, concisely, and confidently. For each case where I asked Ed which of 2 or 3 dishes he recommended, he was able to understand my question and kindly offer his recommendation and he was spot on. Never once did he say the dreaded "it's a matter of personal preference". He just knew what would work best and humbly shared his knowledge and experience. I told Ed my mom doesn't really eat Lup Cheong and he said, trust me she won't notice it and it adds so much to the dish ("Local Boy" En Papillote). Sure enough, mama raved about the fish. I asked him a question about 2 different beef dishes and he explained why the dish he recommended was a better fit for drop off catering. I debated to myself about going with Ed's desserts or getting/making our own, I'm not a big dessert person. Ended up going with Ed and requested an assortment of 3 desserts rather than one, great decision because Ed's desserts were a hit. I was so impressed with my initial interactions with Ed that I was referring people to Kuoha Culinary before I even tasted the food! Fast forward to event date: Ed arrived 15 min ahead of his proposed arrival time. He texted my contact friend and me of his ETA. He politely declined our guests' offers of help and he got everything set up beautifully! Received the most compliments ever on our food! We've had many get togethers with the same people and this food experience surpassed those at previous restaurants and event venues, even the fancy ones. Guests were exclaiming raving about the quality and variety (not exaggerating) complimenting every single dish from appetizers to main dishes to veggies, to the rice to the desserts! Yes, even the humble corn and Hapa rice got rave reviews...seriously! People were scanning chef's QR code and reading aloud about the business at the table (a first) and were so grateful and genuinely wowed. The dishes that were most complimented were the Local Boy Fish En Papillote, Ahi Tataki and the mini tart desserts: Lilikoi Crème Brûlée, Ube Cream, Chef Ed's Chocolate with Haupia The quality was better than the type of restaurant where they give you a deck of cards-sized protein on a plate, with quantity being better than places where you need 2 hands to carry your plate lunch. Best combination ever! Our guests made generous plates to go. I even scraped the sauces into ziplocs to freeze for helping with my own cooking. Hours after the meal and into the next day, people were saying how much they enjoyed everything. The next day, my cousin expressed for the second time how impressed he was with Ed's ability to keep all food at the perfect temperature, texture and consistency. Kuoha Culinary surpassed our goals going beyond merely "impressing" our guests and achieved something even more meaningful: Our guests felt honored, grateful, and joyful. Thank you, Chef Ed, for helping make our celebration so special!
