Update 12-7-25 saw this place in a post and decided to go and see what they have for Christmas. They have a pop up for this Christmas holiday. They have all kinds of snacks baskets for Christmas. Had some great grinds from here yesterday after my mother in law went to pickup food. Honestly I never knew about this location till it showed up on instagram recently! Ige's Halawa (owned and run separately from Ige's Aiea and Ige's in Mapunapuna/Masa's Cafeteria. Same family, just run by different siblings!) had to pivot during the pandemic when they had no more catering jobs. They did bentos and pop up bake sales and a myriad of other things to pay the bills. Today, they are focusing on catering. There is a bento catering menu, a buffet style catering menu and a buffet style funeral catering menu. They no longer serve lunch. They also sell ribbon leis during graduation season and a lot of pop up bake sales. The two sisters put a lot of effort into their bake sales. Ige's Halawa have been doing their bake sales (usually Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm) for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Boys and Girls Days, Boss Appreciation Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, Halloween, Christmas, etc. Follow them on IG or FB for info on pop ups @igeshalawa. The desserts I have had so far have been ono and beautifully presented. A mix of favorites and some creative ones as well. One of my faves is Aunty Kay's Okinawan Sweet Potato Manju. Those sell out fast. In addition to a constant rotation of themed desserts, they will sell a rotation of their famous andagi, potato salad, namasu, smoked meat, pasta salad, etc. It's a bit of a drive to get to their place in Halawa but I think it's worth it to support this local owned and operated family business! read more

Thankful starts with some yummy meal! Every year mom seems to crave that tradition of Turkey and stuffing though since we don't eat much something that massive is just not possible and it breaks my heart as she asks about it again this year. Here pop up Ige's Instagram @igeshalawa and with images of their Thanksgiving Feast Bento!! It's like the New Years Osechi box filled with bites of every feast lovers dream! Turkey, mashed potato, baked ham with pineapple, stuffing, roasted veggies, cranberry sauce, gravy, dinner roll and a baked cookie all for $25!!! This feast must be pre-ordered for pick up on November 22nd and 23rd 10am to 4pm which normally would be impossible for me with my work schedule but this was the days I had my Lasik procedure and Tuesday was my follow up so I was able to swing by to pick it up!! Hallelujah!! Parking is painfully just a few and street parking pretty much non-existent but luckily I got there early and had no problems. Just pick up and all instructions are right on the micorwave safe container to heat and enjoy. From what looks like small bites was more than enough for the both of us to enjoy especially for Mom which thankfully made her day as you can taste the homemade goodness in each items. I can't believe it was my first time here! This place is in the Halawa industrial park area and when i got here there was a long line cause I believe this place is not open anymore but they just do catering or pop up bake sells along with some plate lunches. I went around Halloween time and I was in for a treat! The others that stood in line taught me which items were good. Someone told me gotta try their creamy pasta salad and strawberry cream cheese square which I did. I also bought a pack of mini pumpkin crunch and maki sushi handroll to go. Aside from having kanak attacks from there ginormous servings of fried noodles, shoyu pork and rice ( and Mac potato salad) plate lunches years ago, I have catered food for a family member's celebration of life service. NOTE: This review is solely based on their Bake Sales! Since the pandemic started, Ige's has had little to no catering business. They have been trying to find creative ways to make up for the lost revenue. One way they have been trying to do this is by having bake sales for special holidays and on certain Saturdays! I've ordered baked goods a couple of times now. The first time I ordered their baked goods was for Thanksgiving. They were offering a Thanksgiving Dessert Platter that included pumpkin crunch bites, lilikoi bars, pumpkin Oreo cheecake and apple crisp cheesecake cupcakes. All the desserts were sooo good! Hopefully they will have these offerings again this fall! The next time I came here for for their Valentine's Day sale! I saw they were selling the newest viral dessert, Cocoa Bombs and I knew I had to get my hands on them! When I went, there was a variety of baked goods from banana bread to their infamous andagi. They also had a variety of Cocoa Bombs from churro to mocha to hazelnut! I decided to get 1 Classic, 1 Mocha (which had coffee flavored hot cocoa inside), and 1 Hazelnut! They were $5 each and were individually packaged with a cute bow on top for easy gifting! They also had directions on the bottom of each one. I gifted the Cocoa Bombs to my friends for Valentine's Day and they LOVED it! I was even told you could put coffee instead of hot milk in the Mocha one! My most recent visit was this passed weekend when they offered a Disneyland Inspired Food Day! They had EVERYTHING from corndogs to churros to turkey legs, and much more! This event turned out to be WAYYY more popular than they could have ever anticipated and the line was INSANE! By the time I was able to get in, there were only a few items left: M&M Brownie, Mint Julep, Mickey Cupcakes, and Mickey Beignets! All were sooo good! I never knew there was an Iges so deep in Halawa valley. This is so great for all the folks in the industrial area! So, you have some parking, lots of menu and food selection to choose from (failed to take pictures - oops). But the specials, you need to follow them on IG, but I got lucky because they had a hand written one on a scratch paper . Because there was a line behind me, I quickly had to make a selection so I decided on mini shoyu chicken. Can't go wrong right? Expensive. Almost 10.00 bucks for a mini. A mini alright. 3 mini pieces of shoyu chicken with no shoyu sauce, so the chicken was dry . I ordered a large fountain drink and was told that they don't give straw, I guess due to the new ordinance. Oh wow. Ok. The lady at the register was not friendly but I think of you are a regular she is nice to you. My dog was happy with the chicken. read more

I didn't realize that Ige's Lunch & Catering was located in this area. Jackie was so nice and friendly and helped me navigate thru the large assortment of plate lunches. I decided to go with a mixed plate which is a choice of two menu items. I choose the popular hamburger steak and Furikake ahi. The plate lunch comes with rice and macaroni salad. The hamburger steak was smothered with tasty gravy and the hamburger was onolicious! I also enjoyed the Furikake ahi and the macaroni salad. I will definitely be back to try the other items. Breakfast is served until 10:00 am. Breakfast is served with two eggs any style, a choice of meat and two scoops of rice or a selection of breakfast sandwiches. For lunch there is a selection of sandwiches or hamburgers, cheeseburgers. There are a wide variety of baked goods such as cookies, breads, brownies and Furikake mix too. Participated in the Okinawa FEASTival by purchasing HUOA Donation andagi! Online pre-ordering was easy. I liked having to select a time (30 minute interval). Pick up was easy since there was adequate street parking on a Saturday and with the pick up time staggered, the line moved quickly. The staff just asked your name and your warm andagi appeared almost instantly. They came one dozen per brown paper bag. Bags were oily so you had to have your own plastic bag to put them in (wasn't offered the option to purchase a plastic bag but fortunately I always carry a couple in my purse). Got home 15 minutes later, opened a bag and started to devour the andagi even though we had just eaten lunch an hour ago. Hubby's fam is Uchinanchu (Okinawan) and they make awesome andagi, but as daughter said, nothing compares to Ige's. We don't usually get to eat it still warm but it's always delicious. This time they were warm, fresh, and amazingly crunchy! Everyone kept commenting on how good the crunch was! Am going to have to start picking up fresh made andagi from Ige's and not just settle for eating it at Grad parties or Celebration of life events! I'm hooked! Really wanted to pick up some maki sushi, too but since it was after lunch (I delayed in my pre-order so only afternoon time slots were available) and we were eating an early dinner, I refrained. But I did notice how nice and perfectly round they were, and how well centered the filling ingredients were. read more

Local-taste plate lunches and meat-and-rice breakfasts served here! I just needed a quick sandwich! And an order of fries! The one day I went looking for a quick bite of a yummy sandwich at Ani's Bake Shop down the road is the one day they (Ani's day before Thanksgiving) weren't serving any so next stop I thought of was to come here. I really needed to eat something - anything - before. I. passed. out. O.o The Ige's shop is located in the industrial area of Halawa Heights. If you've got your GPS on, drive up the not too steep mountain about a little more than half way and it's on the left. There are 5-6 parking stalls in front or you may be able to find street parking. The store front is as industrial looking as the surrounding area. Inside is a hole-in-the-wall mom-and-pop feel. It's not luxurious or retro at all. More like a teeny-tiny makeshift diner. Not a bad thing. I'm more concerned with the tastes of the food served and would rather not have to pay more just for a restaurant to look nice. This place does a good job of serving large portions of chicken, beef, and pork - in plate lunch form - for good price. They've even got a catering side of their business. Like you'll see their very low-key buffet-style spread helping out at funerals and party celebrations. Rest of the time, they have this shop open to help feed hungry customers. When I'm there is when I realize just how many workers from surrounding businesses frequent this place. Not my favorite place but let me explain why. Taste of the food ranges from really good to just okay for me but it doesn't do it for me not because of the taste but bc most of the food I eat does not contain very much, if nothing at all, beef pork or chicken. I eat according to my blood type which equates to mostly lamb, turkey, fish, and veggies. Have you heard of that book and it's diet? But I digress lol I reach here about 1230. There's just one other person already at the counter and I am next in line. Yahoo! There are three or four menu items I'd eat here: Eggs, tuna sandwich, french fries, and their ahi katsu rolls plate. Today I got the tuna melt sandwich and fries. I place my order and wait on the side. Other ppl had come in shortly after me. Their orders are fulfilled before mine. I guess it takes a while to prepare my fries which is a good thing since they'll be cooked fresh :) Finally I am called to pick up my order from the ordering counter. I'm actually just here for a quick pick up. I leave the shop and have my lunch elsewhere. My tuna melt sandwich looks a lot smaller. Somehow the bread shrank :/ The tuna tastes ok but did I become a cheese snob? Lol The cheese is the packaged and sliced cheese type. Does not taste bad but doesn't have that home cooking good flavor. Does not meld well with the tuna. The bread is soft not grilled-toasted in any way. Perhaps bc it's not made with any butter the way a good grilled cheese is made. Shucks. Where could I have gone for a grilled cheese. Fries were good! Perfectly salted. Hot and fresh! I should have asked for them to be extra crispy. I eat them with a mix of ketchup and tobasco. Yum! My photos don't quite show it but there are a good number of them. I just love that price for quantity! The ahi (tuna) katsu plate - once a very popular item when it was "invented" back when (1990's?) - is a great choice but I haven't had it here in awhile. Been a very long time since I've visited any of the Ige's restaurants or lunch wagon. Now that the Aiea location is closed, I rarely eat at their establishments. It's not the place I'll really look forward to bc they serve just a limited selection of what I prefer to normally eat (shucks) but I'll come here at times when I need something to help me not pass out from hunger. But, if you're hankering for a tasty beef, pork, and or chicken plate lunch? This will be the place for you! :D read more

Not a fan. Came here at 12:10 and was told that a lot of the food had run out and a limited selection of dishes were available. No problem, I can understand that. I wanted a laulau but that was crossed off the list so I ordered a mini beef stew and my wife had the mini hamburger steak. The next customer orders a beef stew and laulau plate. It costs about $17.50 for two mini plates and a medium soda. Not too bad until you look at the portions, they are even skimpy on the rice. My beef stew was actually potato stew with a little beef added, way too much potato and very little beef. It tasted just OK. My wife's hamburger steak was a pretty minimum portioned plate that was too salty, she did not finish her meal even though there wasn't that much food on her plate. So I finally tried Ige's food that was catered at a party. I don' t know what the hype is for hte roast pork because I've had better. Yes, it's pretty close to zippy's/local food, but tastier: Fried chicken thighs - 3 stars - tastes exactly like zippy's fried chicken except juicier. I'd eat this again. Too bad didn't have chili to go with this. Shoyu Roast Pork - 3 stars - it was ok, but It didn't melt in my mouth like I've eaten at some other restaurants. It was a little tough and dry even with all that sauce smothering it, and although the it was tasty, it was a little too salty for my palate. Nishime - 4 stars - same type I used to buy at those japanse okazuyas in my hanabata days. I made sure I took home left overs for this. Andagi - 3 stars - Taste similar to Da Adagi Guy that sells outside of Don Quiote, but bigger. They know how to mix and fry it just right. read more

Doesn't look like much when you pass by, it can easily be missed. So it's the "you gotta know" hidden gem. More of a definition "hole in the wall" I got the combo pork and hamburger curry. Past few times it was very very salty for my taste buds to handle. I thought i try it again and still salty so i think i'll stick to the Chicken Katsu.. Still great grindz comfort food. Ige's in Halawa is definitely a home in the wall spot to go for lunch. All the times I have been here there is always people waiting for their good food. They offer new menus daily in which they will typically post what they are having for the week. A tip go early as the typically will sell out of certain specials. Don't worry they also have a typical menu of items offered everyday such as sandwiches., burgers, and a few plate lunches like hamburger steak and beef stew. Thy also serve great portion sizes plate lunches, be ready for a Kanack attack if you plan to eat the whole plate. As this is a whole in the wall you won't be going there for the nice decor and interior styling. They do have a couple of chairs if you do want to eat there. It's typically cool but they have no AC. All and all great value and good food I will definitely continue grabbing lunch from Iges. read more

When I'm out and about meeting clients in the Halawa area, I do think about coming to Iges. It's tucked away in the Halawa industrial area so only locals who work or live in the area would be able to find this place. Their plates are a great value as everywhere else seems to cost an arm and a leg. This place reminds me of unko and anty local restaurants growing up with simple recipes and big on nostalgic flavor. The people there are really friendly and willing to always offer a smile. Lots of local charm. My only gripe is that they seem to run out of food often so I urge you to come early if you want to see their whole menu available. For me, I am typically in the area meeting clients around 1pm to 2pm and by that time the menu gets pretty thin. For the most, I definitely recommend Iges, just be sure to be okay with not having many choices after 12pm. read more

Lots of good selection. Hamburger deluxe and fries is so so good. Homemade hamburger. Hamburger steak with gravy is good too. You can ask for all toss or brown rice and toss salad. If you don't say they will automatically give you white rice and mac salad. They have specials each week. Once in a while the will bake something which is awesome wish they baked more often. You'll see it in the beverage refrigerator if it's available. My favorite is the beer batter fish and sweet sour spareribs with brown rice and toss salad. Yum. They serve that usually on Thursdays. In the past I tried this place twice and today would be the third time. The say, third time is a charm? The first time, I came here I had to wait 10 minutes for my order and there was no other customers there. I paid, sat down, waited and when my food was ready. I sat down and before I started eating. I noticed there was no heat like when your food is HOT! I tried it and the food was like room temperature/very slightly warm and so was the macaroni/potato salad. So, I am thinking why did I wait 10 minutes for room temperature food??!! The second time, I came here the food was room temperature/very slightly warm? I thought I would give this place a third try as a coworker said, their food is hot. So, I decided to try it a third time and I ordered the Mushroom Chicken and that was their last order of it for today. The guy behind me was going to order the same thing. But, he ended up having to settle for the Beef Stew instead for today. I paid, sat down, waited like 5-10 minutes. I got my food and it was the same room temperature/very slightly warm as the other 2 times. Don't get me wrong the food tastes okay. But, it's just not hot as it should be. I asked, my coworker and he said, he went to the one behind Cutter Ford in Aiea and not the Halawa location. Maybe, I need to try that location instead for the fourth time??!! I never like to say, anything bad about anyone/anyplace. But, I am just being HONEST on my reviews. I know, If you don't have anything nice to say, don't post it??!! As far as plate lunch goes Ige's get's me pumped. If I had my CDL license, hung drywall or worked stevedores, I'd be all over it. But I'm a girly girl, who try's to watch her figure, I could get a plate and probably share it with 3 of my friends. The Garlic Roast Pork warrants 5 stars in itself. Tender. I needed to get some catering for a couple of up coming family events and heard some good things about Ige's. I heard the food was good and the price was one of the cheapest. When calling around I found out Ige's is a franchise. Their r 3 or 4 different entities all independent from each other. We decided to go with the Halawa Ige's because of how close it was to our house. I called Sunday morning to leave a message, to my surprise someone answered. The guy told me the person who does the catering was not in but should be in soon. he took down my info and told me he would have her call me back, her name was Jody. By the afternoon I had not heard from Jody so I gave them another call. The same guys answers and said she was not in yet but will have her call me when she does come. She ended up calling me back at 3:30 pm, I had called around 9am. When I got the call I was at work and really couldn't talk but because I knew the call was from Ige's I had answered and told her the situation and asked if I could have someone else call in a min.. She rudely agreed and hung up on me. No bye, just a click. I called my wife and gave her the number to call and warned her she was rude. 15 min. later I get a call from my wife and sure enuff Jody was not only sassy and rude but hung up on my wife without being curteous and saying bye. Later on that night we decided to look for another caterer the next day. We would rather pay $1 more per person somewhere else than patron a place with this kind of customer service. The worst thing about the whole situation was, the particular menu we were asking about at that moment was a funeral menu. My wife and I, already tired from a loss in our family and all it's aftermath, have to now deal with someone like this, unthinkable. How can someone be so uncompassionate toward another person's loss. The next day we visited another Ige's in Aiea, on Hekaha Street behind best buy. To our surprise they had the same menu for $.50 cheaper than the one in Halawa. They were also much nicer. I would recommend that Ige's, it's in the harbor center, on the ocean side of the building behind best buy at the end. And Jody if u end up reading this like I'm hoping, I spent almost $5,000 at the Hekaha Ige's, just to let u know. And hey, your doing a great job!!! Too bad we can't give negative stars. read more
