Not sure if I like the portion for over $15...
    Crystal K.

My mom and I took a day at Waikele to check it out, having not been there in a while. Decided to get lunch at one of the food trucks. We chose Laverne's for a couple reasons... 1) Who doesn't like Hawaiian Food? 2) They had the shortest lime at the time. (About 2pm on a Monday), and it was necessary with 2 hungry babies in toll. Anyway, my mom and I both ordered the Squid Luau plates, but I opted for Poi instead of rice. For the small size poi, there was an upcharge of almost $3. That's understandable, poi is expensive everywhere. Although the portion sizes sucked, it was really small as can be seen in the photo I posted. Even the Mac salad scoop was tiny. The food taste was decent. The Mac salad though, was terrible. It tasted literally like just Mac and mayo. No salt, no flavor. A little disappointed with this visit. We'll try again another time though. Hopefully I'll be able to update this review with more stars the next time...

    Roast pork with gravy

Laverne's Lunch wagon at the Waikele Shopping Center (same side as Safeway and McDonalds). We've tried their Hawaiian food and it was delicious. Today we ordered the Roast Pork with Gravy and Kalua Pig. Both were awesome. The Roast Pork was cooked perfectly and the savory gravy makes you want to eat it with a lot of rice with the Mac Salad accenting the plate (cool and creamy). The Kalua Pig had just the right amount of seasoning and cooked perfectly. They're very quick and efficient. They're very organized and very neat and clean (a well earned Green placard). If you're in the area and want some delicious food stop by and give them a try

Chicken long rice and squid luau plate

Well what can I say I always passing by this food truck located in the old Kmart parking lot in waikele waipahu. Well today I told my husband let's try their squid luau for lunch. So after did some grocery shopping at safeway he went over there to order our squid luau but before he went to order I told my husband find something else to go with the squid luau. Well he took a while I was thinking had lots of people before him but NO he was taking pictures off their front of the food truck. SMH. He came back with plastic bag with our lunch. Park our car and to my surprise the plate lunch was in compartment style plate lunch not individually packed by itself. He ordered the chicken long rice plate, including the squid luau, lomi salmon, poi and haupia and of course the chicken long rice. The taste was okay, the chicken long rice was a bit salty and the squid luau was salty with a coconut milk taste their was squid cut up inside you can see it. But I thought it would have been on the sweet coconut taste more and not with that much salt added. Well at least I tried it and now I know how their hawaiian food taste like. If you looking for fast hawaiian food take out try this lunch wagon.

I went to Laverenes Lunchwagon in Waikele. Located by Old Navy and Petco. Decided on getting the Hawaiian combo..(kalua pig, chicken long rice, squid luau)..comes with 2 scoop rice and Mac salad and Haupia. Generous portions for $14.25. Also ordered a laulau plate..the squid luau was tasty. And I ordered the Kanaka Nachos $10.95..which i was disappointed with. Proportions was good but I was expecting more than chips and kalua pig. Not sure if cheese would have been a good topping. It just seemed bland. Bottom line. Would I buy from Lavernes Lunchwagon...sure if I was craving Hawaiian food and was too lazy to make it. Plates are lower priced than other Hawaiian food vendors and portions are ok

The Hawaiian Food here is bomb! I keep coming back here for that Island fix. Everything on the menu is magically delicious. The kind of food that every bite tells you how much love was put in. Tastes like genuine recipes were handEd down from many past generations. The food here is no joke. Serving size will put people to sleep(kanak attack). I bet if the cook sweats it will smell like Hawaiian seasonings exploded. If you're ever interested in tasting the Polynesian Island love, come here.

Lau Lau, squid luau, lomi salmon, poi, pork adobo... No problem with order. Food was good.

The food is pretty good. I ordered a combo plate and some sides. My children had plate lunches and they were more than satisfied. The portions were fair and everything we ordered was good. We always come just before the lunch rush so we don't usually have to wait too long.

Laulau pleasantly surprised me as this was my first foray to Waipahu Highway Inn. Every time I got laulau at the Kakaako location the meaty (non fatty) parts of the pork was dry; this one was moist throughout, even in the meaty parts. Poi was good, especially mixed with the lomi salmon. Mom's squid luau was nice, came out hot, though it was a little sweet for her taste. The smoked meat was also a little sweet, though we know that's how they prepare it at H.I. Nice mix of smoky and sweet with the meat and onions. Finished with the haupia, which is standard and always dependable there. Like the old plantation feel and the old photographs of Waipahu all over the place, right down to the palaka decor. Every time I return I try to eat at H.I.

I'm not sure why they don't pool the tips or just raise the menu price but it is what it is. Service has always been warm and welcoming even when they were at their older location by McDonalds. I do love this location more than the Kakaako one. Stopped by yesterday for two tripe stew plates and to me, the to-go container containing the stew was a little small, but they were very generous with the pipikaula. Each plate was around $17 and it included rice, salad, and haupia. To me, that's still a very fair price. I had ordered online and my order was ready to go by the estimated time. The lot is extremely small and the spaces are tight so you may have to find street parking. They also have a points program so don't forget to sign up for bonuses and rewards.

Its feels like eating at your friend's grandma's house, will this is how I feel, home comfort food vibe whenever I grab take out or dine in. Camille's Hawaiian Food is tucked all the way in Waipahu at Westgate Center, there are many shops here and it blends in but look for the wooden board out front with the daily specials. The prices at Camille's are reasonable and the portions size are great too, you really get bangs for your bucks here. I like they have the options of mini and regular plates. I've been here a total of 3 times, first time we tried the Hawaiian food, got take out, and most recently dined in and luckily we got some entertainment. We enjoyed the Hawaiian food, but I have to give credit to the other local foods we tried so far I got the pork chops with mushroom, garlic shrimp, crack chicken and smoked meat fried rice. Everything was tasty, really enjoyed it but just the crack chicken may be on the sweeter side, I would request for light sauce. The macaroni salad was fire! Rice cooked perfectly! There are many goodies in the fridge, pistachio cake, Ho'i'o salad, dried Aku, Opelu, Smoke Marlin, pickle onions, smoke tako, dried shrimp, drinks, and even Dubai chocolates! There are T-shirts, snacks, candies, chips for sale in front of cashier and towards the back of store. I love the color green and had to get a slice of pistachio cake, ($5.) what a treat, its been awhile since I last had pistachio cake. It was a huge slice, shared w/the hubby. It was yummy, so refreshing and moist. When I had my last bite, it got a little too sweet means I need to stop eating. hehe. Check out Camille's, support local. We ordered 8 pans which came out to $842.00. A price we don't mind paying IF it was worth it. It had this weird watery taste, didn't see any squid and not much coconut milk. Pan was tossed. Rice: This is a no brainer since we are in Hawaii, unfortunately some of the rice was hard and brown at the top (looked like it was scraped from the bottom of the pot) Macaroni Salad: Very bland, had to add salt Kalua Pig: Taste was good (only winner) Smoked Meat: Only my husband liked it Chicken Long Rice: Another huge disappointment, it was really soupy, basically more liquid than noodles and chicken Hoio Salad: Some of the fern shoots were so tough and I found myself spitting them out Overall: For the price we paid, this was NOT worth it and we felt embarrassed for our guests. Back to Laverne's we go. You know that saying: If ain't broke don't try and fix it.
