Not sure if I like the portion for over $15...
    Crystal K.

My mom and I took a day at Waikele to check it out, having not been there in a while. Decided to get lunch at one of the food trucks. We chose Laverne's for a couple reasons... 1) Who doesn't like Hawaiian Food? 2) They had the shortest lime at the time. (About 2pm on a Monday), and it was necessary with 2 hungry babies in toll. Anyway, my mom and I both ordered the Squid Luau plates, but I opted for Poi instead of rice. For the small size poi, there was an upcharge of almost $3. That's understandable, poi is expensive everywhere. Although the portion sizes sucked, it was really small as can be seen in the photo I posted. Even the Mac salad scoop was tiny. The food taste was decent. The Mac salad though, was terrible. It tasted literally like just Mac and mayo. No salt, no flavor. A little disappointed with this visit. We'll try again another time though. Hopefully I'll be able to update this review with more stars the next time...

    Roast pork with gravy

Laverne's Lunch wagon at the Waikele Shopping Center (same side as Safeway and McDonalds). We've tried their Hawaiian food and it was delicious. Today we ordered the Roast Pork with Gravy and Kalua Pig. Both were awesome. The Roast Pork was cooked perfectly and the savory gravy makes you want to eat it with a lot of rice with the Mac Salad accenting the plate (cool and creamy). The Kalua Pig had just the right amount of seasoning and cooked perfectly. They're very quick and efficient. They're very organized and very neat and clean (a well earned Green placard). If you're in the area and want some delicious food stop by and give them a try

Chicken long rice and squid luau plate

Well what can I say I always passing by this food truck located in the old Kmart parking lot in waikele waipahu. Well today I told my husband let's try their squid luau for lunch. So after did some grocery shopping at safeway he went over there to order our squid luau but before he went to order I told my husband find something else to go with the squid luau. Well he took a while I was thinking had lots of people before him but NO he was taking pictures off their front of the food truck. SMH. He came back with plastic bag with our lunch. Park our car and to my surprise the plate lunch was in compartment style plate lunch not individually packed by itself. He ordered the chicken long rice plate, including the squid luau, lomi salmon, poi and haupia and of course the chicken long rice. The taste was okay, the chicken long rice was a bit salty and the squid luau was salty with a coconut milk taste their was squid cut up inside you can see it. But I thought it would have been on the sweet coconut taste more and not with that much salt added. Well at least I tried it and now I know how their hawaiian food taste like. If you looking for fast hawaiian food take out try this lunch wagon.

I went to Laverenes Lunchwagon in Waikele. Located by Old Navy and Petco. Decided on getting the Hawaiian combo..(kalua pig, chicken long rice, squid luau)..comes with 2 scoop rice and Mac salad and Haupia. Generous portions for $14.25. Also ordered a laulau plate..the squid luau was tasty. And I ordered the Kanaka Nachos $10.95..which i was disappointed with. Proportions was good but I was expecting more than chips and kalua pig. Not sure if cheese would have been a good topping. It just seemed bland. Bottom line. Would I buy from Lavernes Lunchwagon...sure if I was craving Hawaiian food and was too lazy to make it. Plates are lower priced than other Hawaiian food vendors and portions are ok

The Hawaiian Food here is bomb! I keep coming back here for that Island fix. Everything on the menu is magically delicious. The kind of food that every bite tells you how much love was put in. Tastes like genuine recipes were handEd down from many past generations. The food here is no joke. Serving size will put people to sleep(kanak attack). I bet if the cook sweats it will smell like Hawaiian seasonings exploded. If you're ever interested in tasting the Polynesian Island love, come here.

Lau Lau, squid luau, lomi salmon, poi, pork adobo... No problem with order. Food was good.

The food is pretty good. I ordered a combo plate and some sides. My children had plate lunches and they were more than satisfied. The portions were fair and everything we ordered was good. We always come just before the lunch rush so we don't usually have to wait too long.

I've been to Hawaii many times but I usually stay in tourist areas, so I don't get many chances to venture out and try local food places. But this place absolutely hit the spot. Service was standard and we were seated within a few minutes. Considering it was lunchtime and it looked like a lot of locals were there, the food came out pretty quickly. The ambiance was clean and reminded me of a modern cafeteria. We had poke, short ribs with brown rice and mac salad, mochiko chicken with white rice and mac salad, and the Hawaiian loco moco. The poke was so good and so fresh. Hands down, some of the best local food around. Highly recommend this place as I will definitely be back!

Getting back to the food, we had the buttermilk pancakes with the haupia sauce and the egg and spam platter with a side order of fried rice. Boy, were we pleasantly surprised. The pancakes were bathed in the haupia sauce, in a good way. We've had other haupia pancakes with a drizzle of haupia, not enough sauce for entire serving. This had enough sauce for each and every bite. The pancake was perfectly cooked, soft and fluffy; enough to feed two. The spam and egg platter was a great compliment to the delicious pancakes. I really liked their fried rice. The rice was nice and moist and loaded with pieces of meat. The staff was very attentive and pleasant. Dining area is large enough to accommodate from an intimate to large parties. Free parking and conveniently located next to th rail station.

I don't know if it wasn't mixed right, or was just plain old. Laulau was small and dry. Kalua pig was good, but tasted a little old. Lomi salmon was good. The poi was like 2-day old, thick, dry, and sour. The haupia was little funky, solid, and grey. The white rice was brown and old. The loco moco gravy was super dark and chunky, the meat paddy tough. The mac salad tasted like detergent (like they never wash the pot good). Felt like everything we was eating was Sunday leftovers. The prices at Camille's are reasonable and the portions size are great too, you really get bangs for your bucks here. I like they have the options of mini and regular plates. I've been here a total of 3 times, first time we tried the Hawaiian food, got take out, and most recently dined in and luckily we got some entertainment. We enjoyed the Hawaiian food, but I have to give credit to the other local foods we tried so far I got the pork chops with mushroom, garlic shrimp, crack chicken and smoked meat fried rice. Everything was tasty, really enjoyed it but just the crack chicken may be on the sweeter side, I would request for light sauce. The macaroni salad was fire! Rice cooked perfectly! There are many goodies in the fridge, pistachio cake, Ho'i'o salad, dried Aku, Opelu, Smoke Marlin, pickle onions, smoke tako, dried shrimp, drinks, and even Dubai chocolates! There are T-shirts, snacks, candies, chips for sale in front of cashier and towards the back of store. I love the color green and had to get a slice of pistachio cake, ($5.) what a treat, its been awhile since I last had pistachio cake. It was a huge slice, shared w/the hubby. It was yummy, so refreshing and moist. When I had my last bite, it got a little too sweet means I need to stop eating. hehe. Check out Camille's, support local. If you have never been here I highly recommend you trying their filipino food. Portion size is good and worth the money but the main reason you're buying their food is cause it's winnahs. I did take out a few of their menu items. Their special for July is lechon Kawali, pancit, pork gisantes and pork adobo fried rice. It's good to get this or mixed plate with 3 choices. It allows to try more of their menu selections. While one is good 3 or 4 is much better especially if coming here for the very first time. You won't be disappointed. I called in to place my order and it would be twenty minutes which is fine cause that's how long it took me to get there. The food was hot and ready to go. I made sure my ac was off so I can enjoy a nice hot lunch. The place was crowded even at 1pm. People know good food when they eat it. Lots of parking. The lechon Kawali was good. It's nice and meaty with some nice soft fat pieces. Oh so good. Yeah if you are worried about cholesterol then this might not be for you. If not you gonna enjoy it. The pancit is good. The pork gisantes which is more commonly known as pork and peas is really good. It's like stew and you wanna mix your rice with it. If you like eggs over easy then you should have that over your gisantes. It's sooooooo good. Kinda like Loco moco except it's stew. When that yolk breaks and blends in with the gisantes hoo boy. Just really good stuff there. Then the main attraction is their pork adobo fried rice omelet. I believe they were the original restaurant that brought it out. I might be wrong but they make it just right. Every bite is so good especially when you bite into one that has fat in it. Yummy. Yeah not a good choice if you're staying away from cholesterol but if not you're gonna enjoy it. The pork adobo fried rice is not dry like some other places I've tried. Ok I admit i love filipino food. I had to get dinuguan. Chocolate meat. Another winner with rice and really good with over eggs on top of it. Nice tender succulent pieces of pork. Oh my God, it's so good. I also got Shanghai lumpia. This is da bomb. You gotta eat this one hot and fresh. If not it gets stale and soggy so I ate this first. You dip it into vinegar. I like a little heat so I add Tabasco to it. Great with beer. It's so good. I'm missing it already. Then the final dish i got was their sari sari. It's soup with mixed veggies, baby shrimp and lechon. The soup is delicious and comforting. It's great on a cold night or maybe when you're feeling sick. Better than your chicken noodle soup for sure. It's also great remedy for that hangover you got last night. Lol All in all you just gotta try it. Let me know what you got and how good it tasted. Enjoy and thank me later.
