The malasada truck was parked right outside the mall, so had to get some fresh malasadas (Portuguese donuts) for the ALOHA win. They do take Apple Pay.

Drove out to get these and it did not disappoint! So warm fluffy and delicious! There was no wait when I went around 930 AM on a Monday! If you have never had these you are missing out. 10/10 for a quick sugary snack.

Leonards famous malasadas in Waipahu. Hot fresh and so good without the lines like Honolulu. Quick mobile truck in outside ambiance

got two boxes of malasadas for a coworkers birthday. We got the regular sugar and the cinnamon sugar. I've always grown up eating the regular sugar so I was a little skeptical about the cinnamon, but it was really good and it's always best fresh, but if there was extra, I just heat it up in the microwave for about 30 seconds for breakfast the next day and it was delicious. Highly recommended.

This particular Leonard's Bakery food truck only takes card (apple pay included). Please be patient because they're taking orders while making your malasadas fresh.

Delicious and open at 8am! Perfect local breakfast stop on our way back from the airport. They fry them fresh after you order. We will be back!

On our 4 day trip to Hawaii, we had Leonard's a total of 4 times! Nothing beats a hot, fresh malasada with a cup of coffee. This is a MUST HAVE if you are visiting Hawaii, as anything on the mainland could never compare. The service was quick and friendly, and the quality never disappoints. After trying all the flavors, I would most definitely recommend the Cinnamon and the Macadamia Nut Filled, but might as well try them all while you're here!

Leonard's is popular for a reason. The donuts here are fresh and delicious. We tried the coconut and custard flavors, both were really decadent and filling. I think most donuts are best fresh and if you don't have them warm they probably won't be as good, which is where Leonard's shines. They make them fresh, I don't know if there's much to improve.

Leonards is a local fixture for a reason. My bf and I got a half dozen of the following: Coconut Cinnamon Original Custard Macadamia Guava I am not typically someone who will wait in lines but this one is worth the wait. It honestly moves fast too. Do not let the lines or parking deter you. It will be worth it when you are enjoying a nice & warm malasada. Our favorites were the cinnamon and original.

We tried Leonard's malasadas in macadamia and custard flavors: sweet, soft, and such a fun local treat. While they're super popular in Hawaii, malasadas actually come from Portugal, and I grew up eating them in Brazil where they're called "Dreams." Tasting them here brought back so many memories, and Leonard's definitely makes them worth the stop.

Custard Filling.... So good

I love Leonard's even tho it's not good for me lol... my go-to are the original and custard filled Malasada. I appreciate this food truck location being way more laid back than the Kapahulu brick & mortar. It's hard to stand and wait when you can smell the fried goodness in the air! Haha it's funny how once I catch the smell, I need it all of a sudden! Yesterday, the service was friendly and we got our order in right as they were frying up a new batch. Yum, yum, yum! Malasadas are best when eaten hot & fresh. Make sure to stand outside the car to avoid leaving a sugary mess! This Waikele location always provides plenty of napkins, so even that is a plus in my book. Thanks, Leonard's! :)

Make sure to check if it's burnt, before leaving.

The last two times I've been there they've over fried my malasadas. They're so dark that they look burnt. Please do better.

Ask the Community - Leonard's Bakery

Has anyone had experience taking these on a plane? (To Los Angeles) How to store them? Lol Are they even allowed? 🤷🏻‍♀️?

You can carry them on. Not sure how far you are flying them. If really far, a few secs in micro or maybe air fryer to reheat unless you don't mind them cold...

Any special orders to take back home?

Regular and my person fav.. Dobash!

Are there any butter/milk in the Malasadas? Any dairy free options?

Both milk and butter; no dairy-free option. Maybe one of the vegan cafes on island might have something suitable?

I only like fresh. Do they cook them in truck? Or best to go to the main store?

Yes, it's cooked hot and fresh at this location.

I inhaled the ube pandesal but that ule Bulilit bread? MY KRYPTONITE! The ube jam had my skirt flipping. Ube pandesal is a popular Filipino purple yam bread roll, characterized by its soft, fluffy texture, vibrant purple color, and often filled with cheese and ube halaya (purple yam jam). It is made with flour, yeast, sugar, ube powder/extract, and milk, then coated in breadcrumbs and baked. I learned that ube Bulilit bread is a popular Filipino bite-sized, soft bread filled with sweet, purple yam (ube) jam, most commonly sold by Valerio's Tropical Bakeshop. These small, chewy, golden buns are known for their vibrant purple filling and are often enjoyed as a snack or dessert. They offer a subtle, creamy sweetness and are a staple in Filipino bakeries, particularly in Hawaii. This place is not safe. I walked in after a heavy meal so that I wouldn't be buying too much for we know how all that works. Ends up with losing money and wasting food!!! However if you go in not starved, you will end up buying one or two baked goods and being happy with them. I tried their azuki bean bread and their coconut cream bread. The first thing I must say is that the bread is soft, not too sweet and good. The cream in the coconut bread is light, fluffy, not overly sweet and the whole thing together was a rather positive experience. I had a few words with the lady behind the counter and she said that they're super busy morning time. Of course, without zippys next door, they got all the baked goods business. I enjoyed their breads and I will definitely return. They probably have been in business for a long time, however this is my first time going and I will return for sure!

Whenever I pass by, there seems to be people waiting in the front, especially during dinner time. Who knew this place would be the spot to go to for dinner? From the outside, it reminds me of the restaurant Tiana from The Princess and the Frog built -which make total sense! It's the high, lofty ceilings, big, open, bright lights - they really got the plantation building vibe well. The servers have been great whether they're the quick-service bakery or the servers for our dinner. I remember one dinner, my meal took longer than everyone else at the table and they were apologetic in that and kept checking in and made sure I felt seen. As far as the food, I've tried their cutlet, breakfast pancakes/waffle, fried chicken, and a couple other dishes. Some I ordered myself and some my husband ordered, therefore they are my dishes as well. All of them tasted great and I do have to say, considering how long they've been open, you would think the standards go down at some point, but I have not experienced that at all. The breads, butters, and jellies still slap. And most of all, my husband and other family members I've come here with LOOOVE the kimchi fried rice and/or the pork loco moco. Personally, I used to only think about Liliha Bakery whenever friends from the mainland come to visit. But now, it just may be a nice spot for dinner if we want something a little more than Zippy's.
