I was on my way to Shabuya and ended up finding this food truck along the way as a happy accident. As a casual daily helper, I'm always looking at Yelp to help me find my next meal, so naturally I've heard of Laverne's for a while. When I found this food truck, I immediately wanted to stop by and see what the hype was about. I visited about 30 minutes before closing. The only thing they had run out of was the chop steak and one other protein, which wasn't too big of a deal for me. My eye was on the beef stew. Growing up in a Filipino household, I knew this dish as "caldareta." My dad would make this for me all the time. I asked for a bowl to go so I could enjoy it for dinner later. The first bite instantly sent me back to my family's home kitchen, where I would come home from school and find a pot of beef stew waiting for me. What I love about Hawaii is that it has a blend of cultures that I truly appreciate as a foodie, and experiences like this feel like a nostalgia tour. Thank you for this delicious meal. It made me miss my mom and dad a little more than I usually do. Food not only nourishes us, but also brings us back to a moment in time. I thank Laverne's for that. read more

I always like Laverne's food truck when I was living in Kunia I used to go to the one in Waikele the food was good so today me and the wife had errands to do so we got coffee and Starbucks and stop at the Kapolei one by Home Depot wasn't busy so wifey go the combo A and I got the B both with rice she got a side of the beef stew, had one guy serving the food my plate had the Kalua pig and Squid luau was ono the only downfall was the rice I guess was the day old rice cause was but other than that food was good read more

We struck out on our original dinner plans as the store had signs saying closed for dinner so we went here because Laverne's is solid. This is the food truck in the Home Depot parking lot in Kapolei. They have several tables to eat at. We ordered a pastele stew and squid luau combo. Food came out quick but most importantly was good. read more

We stopped by here for a quick dinner and got a plate of pastele stew and squid lau lau. Great as always! The meat in the pastele was soft, the flavors are spot on and it blends well with the squid lau lau combo which is creamy and somewhat sweet. I really enjoyed it. You can't go wrong with Laverne's. Fresh plate lunch that is enough to feed even the hungriest of workers. I got the combination plate the friendly staff recommended and it was delicious. I'm just visiting, but I'd be a regular if I lived close by. They were parked at the far end of the Home Depot parking lot and there was a small seating area. It's best for takeout. read more

When Lavernes was down at New Town Golf, I tried their Pork Adobo plate. It was really dry and stringy. The Guy serving at that time was mad at something and banged stuff around. Never ate their food again. I see the positive posts now, and will check them out again. read more

Was in Kapolei to pick up paperwork; was super hungry and drove by Home Depot. Braddah waved us down as I slowed down to look at menu. Took a chance and was so glad I did. Had the onos for some local grinds. Went to Laverne's (they moved from Aiea to Kapolei) to check them out. Saw the shoyu pork on the menu. I got the last plate-mini, which was major. Shoyu pork belly cooked and seasoned to perfection, served with rice and Mac salad. If you can eat a whole regular plate you are supaman! I've had pork belly served in frou-frou restaurants, small plate servings, for the cost of a small pig. This nicely priced mini plate from Laverne's, I took home the leftovers and put it in my ramen-was onoliscious! read more

I've been seeing the Laverne's food truck in Kapolei's Home Depot Parking lot, which usually has a fair size crowd during the lunch hours, so I've been curious. I've a first stop about two weeks ago, and a second stop about a few days ago. I will say that if the food was terrible or the service bad/terrible, I wouldn't go back. However, they have been friendly & helpful and I saw nothing terrible about the truck. I will say, the first meal was the Roast Pork with gravy on the rice/pork and mac salad. It was great. I looked at the plate, it was humongous amount of rice with gravy, the mac salad was a large scoop. The roast pork was super tender and thick chunks. The gravy was broke the mouth tasty that I talked to the server and agreed with him, I could eat just the gravy & rice, and it was a great meal in it self. The pork was good. The gravy flavorful, with a kick of something. It slightly reminded me of the Diner's Drive In gravy, but it was different. I couldn't place what made that gravy so delicious. The mac salad was good. Not too little or too much mayonnaise, not too dry. Moist, tasty yet good. The second plate, a week or more later, was a combo. It was their Fried Mahimahi with a garlic butter sauce, I think and Smoked Meat. The mahimahi was perfectly cooked, firm but not dry with the sauce that was delicious with the rice. The smoked meat was awesome. I don't know what kind of meat, it was but it had such an aroma, that when I reheated the leftover meat, days later, the microwave had that rich smoked taste, which some people might not like smoked meat, but my daughter smoked his turkey in his komodo using cherry guava branches from our bushes in the back yard. Our smoke Turkey, every thanksgiving for decades was terrific. Turkey Jook from smoked turkey is awesome. I hope Laverne's periodically, smoke a turkey and use the leftovers for a jook, it would be a top seller. The smoke meat was delicious. I even had to have their dessert this time, as they were sold out on my first trip. I don't have the dessert maker's name, but the creation was a mousse or pudding with Oreo crumble was good. I was only going to some and leave half for another day, but I scarfed it down. The server tells me the woman who makes their desserts makes a selection, but he receives the same ones, but I'm hoping that she will get him some other varieties, as I'm senior and don't go to those nighttime food truck events that she puts out her desserts. If you have a chance, I'd suggest trying one. I'm curious about their other menu items, as I've read the squid luau and a few other menu items are good. read more
