Here's a balanced review that gets your point across while acknowledging the positives: This sandwich shop definitely seems to be one of the local favorites, so I had to give it a try. The sandwiches are good and the ingredients taste fresh, but I was surprised by the price. At around $16 per sandwich, I expected something a little more substantial. The sandwiches have a lot of toppings and presentation, but they also have quite a bit of "fluff," and the bread is sliced very thin, making the overall sandwich feel smaller than expected. The side options are limited to either a salad or potato chips. I chose the chips, and I have to admit they were really good. Overall, the food tastes good, but I don't think it matches the price point. For what you get, I'd say these sandwiches feel more like a $10 value than a $16 one. I'd come back if I was craving one, but I'd love to see either larger portions or a lower price to better reflect the value. read more

Every once in a while I feel like a sandwich. My preferred choices are places in Kaimuki where I can get mine on a sturdy sandwich bread - something like a yeasty focaccia that won't fall apart. But Mala Market can do a good job with their Dave's Killer Bread. The sliced meat sandwiches are the best here. I personally stick with roast beef. Everything is layered tight with cheese, lettuce, sliced tomato and cucumber, chopped purple cabbage, julienned carrot, and grassy sprouts. The 21 grain bread and all the veggies are great complex carbs that will leave you satisfied for a long time. Sandwiches come with Kettle ruffled potato chips, or a salad with good dressing - a pink goddess or green cilantro. The wrap is proper for holding on to your sandwich and the take out box is good for traveling. I am less sold on tuna, chicken, or shrimp salad. I know the shrimp salad liquid will seep into your sandwich bread and quickly make it soggy - and I find soggy bread ruins a sandwich for me. For add on options there is double meat, or avocado mash. Skip adding the avocado. And don't pay extra for the pickle. The ladies are very quick at putting together the sandwiches and not waiting long is a plus. If you want to eat it outside there are decent tables, plus additional shaded seating near the marina. The sandwiches at Mala Market are not my favorite. But they are freshly prepared, well constructed, and a good balance of protein and complex carbs. A solid choice in the area if you want to take something to the beach. read more

My relationship with Māla Market started via Uber Eats, and it's been a hot minute since I've supported their establishment due to ... budgeting. Today I needed some self care. Their sandwiches are excellent and the chips that that come along with the sandwiches make the perfect pair. I'm typically in town (thus the Uber Eats) and after a heavy workout I was craving something healthy-ish. So I made the trek to Hawaii Kai to finally visit in person. I got a little lost in the parking lot, but after a quick phone call they were kind enough to point me in the right direction (pro tip: nearest shop is Panda Express). It's down a little hallway near the pavilion. I would never know this because I rarely come to Hawaii Kai. Fast forward to ordering my food; they are fast. The assembly line is on point. And the eating area has a gorgeous view that's perfect for a lunch date or a girly fab sesh. Sandwiches as just as good as I remember and the cold brew kept me productive on my day off. read more

Back this time for a wrap! I'm so excited that they now offer wraps (it's been a while since I've stopped in..!). I ordered the shrimp wrap with a side salad and it was delicious. So many veggies and I absolutely love both dressings that come with the order. The wrap completely filled me up and left me feeling good. I was a little disappointed that some of the lettuce pieces were rotten and I had to pick them out. The atmosphere is so peaceful and a great spot for me to have a quiet outside lunch on the water with my son! read more

I forgot to take a photo of our sandwiches. But I wanted to give this establishment 5 . The sandwiches were excellent. They come with a side salad or chips. I opted for the salad. It had cilantro lime dressing that was amazing. The staff is friendly. There's limited indoor seating, and there's outdoor seating near the lagoon. I also had pineapple iced tea! read more

Māla Market in Hawaii Kai has the MOST fresh sandwiches filled with love and the most incredible views! My husband and I came here after church and became obsessed! You come in and are greeted by a few workers working almost like an assembly line! You order and they make sandwiches with the most fresh ingredients, Dave's killer bread (21 grain), and it's so quick! I recommend the Italian Sandwich! My husband said his Tuna Salad Sandwich was delicious! If you sit outside, you're greeted by paradise... LITERALLY! It's stunning. I highly recommended this place. Mala Market is a solid choice if you're looking for a quick, fresh sandwich on a hot day. The service is fast and there's no need to order ahead, which makes it convenient for a casual lunch stop. Prices are a little on the higher side, especially considering the sandwiches are very straightforward and something you could easily make at home, but they do load them up with a lot of vegetables so every bite tastes fresh and satisfying. Nothing on the menu is particularly unique--it's mostly classic cold sandwich staples on sliced wheat bread--but they're well made and hit the spot. There's no indoor seating, but plenty of tables outside, and the real bonus is that the shopping center has additional seating just a few steps away right by the water, with umbrellas for shade. It's a great setup if you want to grab your sandwich and enjoy it in a more scenic spot. Parking is simple with the shopping center lot, which is another plus. Overall Mala Market isn't a place for a one-of-a-kind meal, but it delivers exactly what you'd want in a fresh, quick sandwich and pairs it with an easy, relaxing place to sit and eat. read more

Was in the area before the beach, and decided to stop by to try and get a cold sandwich. The ordering area is super cute too and I love how easy their menu is. I got the turkey avocado sandwich with a side salad. The service was extremely fast! By the time I was done ordering, it was already out and ready for me. Also this sandwich was delicious! It came with a ton of different refreshing vegetables and a lot of turkey which I enjoyed. This was perfect for the beach. I would definitely come back again when in the area and needing a sandwich! read more

Went to Costco and realized it was lunch time. Had to feed baby too. Hubs only agrees to sandwiches at lunch, so had to take advantage of this lunch. Can I make a sandwich myself for less than $14? Yes, but will it look this pretty and have that many veggies? Heck no. Veggies were sooooo good. Seemed like people were constantly in and out even if there was never a line. Not my turf so I didn't even know where it was and was pleasantly surprised to find it tucked in the back by the water. The workers are very nice. Place is clean if you don't look at the window sill (think food falls over the counter top where people eat...then dries up on the sill). Wanted chicken salad, but i just can't do fruits in my food. Don't like the taste, texture, nut'n. My fruits stand alone only. So I had the tuna...which unfortunately I found out when I was eating it had pickles or relish so made it a little sweet. But not a deal breaker but not my fave. Maybe they should write out the ingredients. Hubs had the pastrami. He said good but needed something saltier like salami added in. Baby had the keiki Ham and Cheese. She ate mostly bread and then some of my tuna. And of course, chips. Also ate the tomatoes from Hubs' salad. We went home full + half of my and baby's sandwiches and a ton of chips. 2 more meals for me! I'd go back... read more

I LOVE a good veggie packed sandwich! As a firm believer that sandwiches should basically be salads between two slices of bread, Māla Market is my ride or die. The turkey avocado is an absolutely perfect choice, creamy and crunchy, especially after a day of hiking or swimming. You also get the choice between salad (with a side of dressing) or kettle chips. There isn't much seating inside the store but you can sit outside or along the marina (which I prefer). Workers are nice and accommodating :) read more

Okay this place makes the best sandwiches. I got their turkey avocado sandwich and WOW! They pack their sandwiches!!! They put turkey, avocado, purple lettuce, sprouts, mayo, tomato and carrots. So healthy for you! The combo comes with either salad or chips. I got the salad and their dressing was super good too! Tasted like an avocado/vinaigrette. Super good! The service was alright. Not too friendly. It didnt feel welcoming. Super nice place. They have seats to eat inside or outside but I recommend outside because they have the view of the ocean pier. super cute view! read more

Service was great and so were the sandwiches! Sandwiches were fresh and the salad had an amazing dressing.

First time here. Ordered chicken salad sandwich salad. It's prob one of chic best sandwiches I've had. It's not filled with too much mayo and loaded with sprouts but it wouldn't hurt to have more. If it was more affordable (spent over $16) I would come here more often. It comes with side salad or chips. Service was fast and there are seats outside of the Marina for a nice view. read more

We chose Mala Market for a business lunch to be delivered to our conference at House of Savon, located in the same center. The food was great. Our team appreciated how fresh and healthy everything was, and each order came in neatly packed individual boxes. We placed a large order with 45 items, and their online ordering system made it very easy. High scores for food quality and ease of ordering. I requested delivery at 12:30 PM and received a confirmation email saying it would arrive between 12:30 and 12:50 PM. That worked for our 1 PM lunch schedule. At 12:55 PM, I called to check on the order and was told they were behind due to lunch rush. When you are managing a meeting with 45 hungry attendees on a tight schedule, that kind of delay is stressful. The food arrived at 1:15 PM. Some sandwiches came with side salads, but there were no forks included. I know some places require you to request utensils, but for a $750 order, you would expect basic flatware to be included. Thankfully, we had some on hand. Otherwise, we might have seen people eating salad with their fingers. Hawaii Kai does not have many options for group catering, which makes this even more disappointing. read more

Not worth the cost!! Disappointed with the tuna sandwich I ordered. Although the sandwich was loaded with veggies, there was not much tuna. The tuna was not spread out evenly on the bread that several bites was just veggies. Unfortunately, the sandwich was too dry. The chips are from Costco and only a small portion. Sad, for the cost they should at least give the small packaged chips. read more

Finally got to try mala market this weekend after it being on my list for a while! Got the chicken salad sandwich and it was amazing. I loved the freshness of the vegetables and the chicken salad itself had the right amount of sweet/savory balance. The bread is solid (seems like Dave's killer bread) and the chips on the side were a lovely complement. It traveled well too as I took it to the beach to eat and the packaging made it easy to transport and eat without too big of a mess. It's also a huge portion. The service was very quick! Seating is majority outdoors but is a cute area along the marina. It was pretty packed when I was there around 2pm on a weekend. Definitely excited to try a different sandwich next time! read more

Great sandwiches! We had these delivered but tried the turkey avocado and chicken salad sandwiches which came recommended. Both were loaded with veggies with fresh ingredients. I preferred the chicken salad over the turkey avocado just because it had a bit more moisture from the chicken salad. However, both came with sprouts which I love! The dressing that accompanied the side salad was nice--something with cilantro that was creamy but not too overpowering. Definitely felt like a healthy meal choice that I still very much enjoyed eating. I'd like to try one of the wraps next time and maybe one of their drinks! read more

Great fresh ingredients, stuffed to the brim! Very generous with the vegetables and sprouts, making for a colorful sandwich. These sandwiches require quite a bit of chewing. We tried the turkey and avocado. The Dave's grain bread is very seed heavy and healthy whole grain. Quite a pricy sandwich for what is inside them but understandable given the amount of vegetables. Quick service! Outdoor tables overlooking the bay! Indoor counter seating as well. read more

Great sandwich shop with a beautiful view! I love everything they use in their sandwiches (love the Dave's killer bread), and prices are about average. Their sandwiches were good, but nothing super special. still enjoyable & simple though!! I also appreciated the amount of turkey & avocado in my sandwich. The salad dressing was also delicious and paired nicely with the sandwich. Staff was very friendly & helpful & our orders came out pretty quick! This small little sandwich shop offers a small menu of sandwiches, wraps and salads. The employees are friendly and the service is prompt. Located inside of the shopping mall, surround by other stores, fast food/restaurants, and plenty of open parking. Māla Market is a fresh, healthy sandwich shop, and this was such a welcome meal on one of the days I was on the island. Their menu also offers soups, wraps, and sides, but we stuck with the Turkey Avo, which came stacked with shredded red cabbage, shredded carrots, and lots of alfalfa sprouts - this sandwich was super delicious, with the house dressing that they had used - everything was so so so fresh, and you really felt good and happy chowing this down! I recommend in getting a side of chips with your meal. Staff were pretty friendly, and everything is made to order. Fresh and beautifully made sandwiches. I ordered the turkey avocado and chicken salad sandwich. I also got a sweet tea. The turkey avocado was good and had a nice flavor. I paired that with a salad which included their green goddess dressing which was delicious and herbaceous! The chicken salad sandwich was my favorite because it had so much going on. The walnuts were the perfect crunch with nutty flavor. I was also loving the grapes too because it gave such a nice sweetness. If you don't like either of those items in your chicken salad I don't recommend that sandwich. My only complaint was the sweet iced tea which tasted like powdered fake sugar tea. They might as well call it Lipton tea. I was hopping for sweet tea made fresh like all their other items, but that was not happening with this tea. The service was good and quick. The ambiance inside the shop was small but outside it was gorgeous and the view of the canal was just picturesque. The location is good but the parking lot can be crazy and the stalls are way too tiny. read more

Keeps getting better! All ways friendly service, and the best in fresh organic salads, and bursting thick sandwiches and rollups. They also have a frequent customer discount club. My dad and I split a tuna salad rollup and are full- each rollup is always bursting with delicious fresh salad ingredients including sprouts, cucumber, carrots, along with their delicious homemade creamy cilantro dressing. (They also have chicken salad, Turkey and roast beef.) They have an equally good raspberry vinaigrette dressing if you do not like cilantro. Their homemade Arnold Palmer ice tea is a fav too. My girlfriend has been raving about this place for months. That's saying a lot because she really isn't a sandwich fan. Me on the either hand, I love a good Sammie. We stopped in today before hitting Costco. It's tucked in the back of the Hawaii Kai Town Center which has a ton of parking. Follow the walkway past Panda towards the water and this little gem is on the left hand side. I tried the Shrimp Salad sandwich with a side salad and added a side of the cilantro dressing. We chose a table along the water for a nice little lunch date. The sandwich is packed with fresh fresh veggies and it was absolutely delicious. I tried a bite of her chicken salad and it was equally tasteful. Although the sandwiches were large, they were fairly light so we didn't leave feeling overly full.
