Salmon Miso Poké bowl!! Made fresh when you order!!
    Drizza N.

Love the Ahi Poke here! Fresh and with good seasonings We got the poke bentos: 2 ahi poke types - with Kalua pork and seafood salad. I got mines over salad- the rice options are white, brown or sushi Takuan, cucumber with seaweed, fresh cucumbers (I also had tomato's with my salad).... Awesome bento!! Great & friendly service. Casual seating. A table of 4, table for 2, and seating along the wall. Or you can sit outside as well.

We both got poke bowls with salad. The dressing was phenomenal and so was the poke. Delicious. The lettuce and veggies were very fresh, crisp and refreshing. So yummy and crunchy.

Mixed Protein Bowl - Ahi Hawaiian & Salmon Shoyu with 1/2 sushi rice & 1/2 salad

I had been to this place a couple times before, as it's very close to my residence, however I'm just getting around to writing my review now after ordering take out for dinner last night. I was craving poke and we're fortunate to have HanaPa'a Market, Ono Seafood and even Foodland Market for good poke options in the area. They're located in the Koko Marina Center, closer to the Kona Brewing side versus the Zippy's side. Plenty of free parking is available in the shared lot. This is a small take-out type of place, although they do have several tables inside. I ordered my food online via their website, and it was ready upon my arrival. I ordered the Mixed Protein Bowl for $17.50. You can mix and match any 2 proteins and any flavor of your choice. I selected the Ahi Hawaiian and Salmon Shoyu for my proteins, and chose my base as 1/2 salad & 1/2 sushi rice for a $3 upgrade. I really wanted all salad but that was a $4 upgrade, which I feel is too pricey. Most poke places allow you to swap salad for rice at no extra charge, thus the 4 stars instead of 5. When I arrived to pick up my bowl, I was greeted by the sweetest boy behind the counter who smiled brightly and gave me my order. He gave me an extra salad dressing per my request at no extra cost and offered me a free bag. 5 stars based on his service alone! When I got home and dug into my bowl, I was pleasantly surprised at the overall taste. First of all, I was glad I got the 1/2 sushi rice as it went really well with the poke, even though I didn't eat a lot of the rice. The salad was great with the shoyu dressing (they also have a miso dressing). But the clear winner was the Ahi Hawaiian with onions & Hawaiian salt. Wow! On previous visits, I've ordered the Cali-Crunch Bowl and the Misoyaki Salmon Plate. Both were equally delicious! I will definitely return and work my way through the rest of the menu!

BEST POKE IN OAHU. Fresh fresh fish that is cut into big tender chunks and seasoned perfectly to order with care put into every single ingredient. The servings are also big. I like getting the sushi rice and Hawaiian style poke. Go find this hole in the wall spot and you won't regret it. The prices are also relatively affordable and no line.

One of the absolute BEST poke bowls I've EVER had! This place is unassuming from first glance and tucked away in a plaza. Buttt, this is the stop along the highway EVERYONE needs to make. The food was so fresh and delicious! I loved that with bowl was so simple, but packed with flavor. For the protein, I chose half spicy ahi and half spicy salmon, and I highly recommend this option for those who like a nice, flavorful kick! The cashier was so patient and kind, and gave great suggestions. And the kitchen had the food out before I could blink! Anddd, it was very well (low) priced as compared to many other places in Oahu. The sad part is that I couldn't take this business back home with me! 100 out of 10, Highly recommend!!!!

HanaPa'a Market DELIVERED one of the best poke I had the opportunity to try in Oahu. After an early morning hike to the lighthouse, we ended up grabbing brunch at Hana'Pa Market right when they opened. Their menu has something for everyone, even if you're not into raw fish. Build your own poke bowl ($17.50+): I built my own bowl with ahi tuna and salmon garlic chili crisp, spicy aioli, furikake and onions. Super good and filling. Proteins were fresh. Poke Bento ($22): Just as good. Larger portion than the poke bowl. Would recommend if you've got a big appetite or sharing. Chicken Teriyaki Plate ($17): Good but salty. The chicken was marinated well...but a tad salty for us. There's two tables and some counter seats for a quick bite but I see most people ordering takeout. Overall, I would come back for another poke bowl. The service was great, the girl working the front was very helpful and patient with all the questions we had.

    Kalua pig and poke plate

My first time trying this place and the food was good and the portion size was worth it. I got the Hawaiian flavor for the poke...it was a little too salty for me but still good and I finished it all. The crab salad had peas in it which was different but we really enjoyed it. The cashier was very friendly and it has good local music. I would recommend this place.

poke bowl- shoyu ahi, oyster sauce salmon

super friendly and sweet service! and quick to come out. a little bit of seating inside, cute and casual vibe. the poke itself was just okay. the fish are cut in these great, big chunks (amazing) and taste fresh, but the sauces I got were too salty, even for it being oyster sauce/shoyu. and even eating it with rice, especially because i got furikake on my rice. the rice was also just okay, but i appreciated that they had sushi rice for no extra charge! i would go back again if i needed lunch in a pinch and was around koko marina.

Went here after Koko Head and it hit the spot!! The lady working the register was so sweet and gave us her recommendations. I was happy that I could get two different kinds of protein with two different flavors! The fish was a very good portion and the flavors were yummy! I would say it's a tad salty but other than that, no complaints. Would 100% come here next time when I do koko head again

    Spicy Ahi Poke bowl

Really happy with the quality of the fish here and worth a return visit. Just a small suggestion: the ratio of fish to rice felt a bit off. Adding just two to three more pieces of fish would make this spot a solid five stars!

Wanted something healthier after our workout and this was the place. Cali Crunch bowl - so good! Hubs went with the Ahi Caesar which came with 2 filets - another good one. The lemonade was also refreshing. Want to return to try the Ahi Fever . . . Or just go back for the Cali Crunch.

The first meal back home after two years and it was *chefs kiss*. My brother got their Hawaiian style salmon poke bowl and I got the two poke choices with imitation crab salad, kalua pork, pickled veggies and rice. Insanely good and super fresh. The girl behind the counter today was very helpful and friendly and definitely just embodied aloha and made me happy to be around great people again. The shop is small but mighty! Guava lemonade and that's all she wrote.

Pickled Ogo, Shoyu pickled garlic, Cali Crunch Bowl, 1/2 lb salmon poke with spicy mayo, Ahi Fever plate

A great place to stop by after a nice hike. We arrived around noon on 4th of July and it was packed. There was a line and we waited about 15-20 min for the food. The cashier was very nice and she informed us about the wait, we didn't mind. We placed our order and waited outside as there's nowhere to stand inside, periodically checking in if our food was ready. With our order of pickled ogo, pickled garlic, 1/2 lb salmon poke, Cali crunch bowl, Ahi Fever plate, and a Powerade, our total was $80. Once we got our food, we found a table outside to enjoy our lunch. The pickled ogo and pickled garlic are local favs. Absolutely delicious. For poke, salmon is always my go-to. I love that they have options to select the sauce for your poke. The cashier recommended the spicy mayo and it was a great choice. For the bowl, it was a nice rice to poke ratio. For the plate, it was a lot of variations of ahi. I really enjoyed the seared ahi and ahi poke. The ahi fishcake was different, it was good but I was not used to the texture. If you're ever in koko marina craving poke, I recommend to check them out. I hope to return soon and try other dishes on their menu.

If you're not a fan of seafood, don't let the squid deter you as it is a minimal part of the dish and added more of a crunchy textural component rather than actual flavor. This was my wife and my favorite dish. The luau pork was also very good though I liked the version we had at Toa Luau better. We also liked the haupia which was a very refreshing coconut pudding though for some reason our boys didn't like it. We also tried pipikaula which are thinly sliced dry-aged beef short ribs marinated in soy sauce and something else that made it sweet. If you know Korean barbeque, you'll instantly get the sensation that these are close cousins to galbi, though the pipikaula are much less sweet in comparison. The dry aging process also makes them a bit more dryer than galbi. On to more difficult stuff. I was enthusiastic about the fried butterfish collar but once I got a waft of the dish, I knew I was in trouble. I'm very sensitive when it comes to fish so the smell (more than the taste) was off putting. My wife was fine with it and enjoyed the dish, but if you aren't a fan of fishy fish, then I would skip it. The lomi salmon looked very much like pico de gallo with the addition of salt-cured salmon. My boys loved this dish because they love salmon but again I would steer clear if you are a seafood weakling like me. Alas, we come to poi. Had my hopes up since I love taro but the texture and a bit of sourness from fermentation deterred me from trying too much of it. I'm glad we tried it but not sure that we would get it again.

Highway Inn is known for traditional Hawaiian food, but we ended up trying some of the local-style twists. The kalua pig quesadilla was really good, and the tacos were solid too. The surprise for me was the chicken from the kids menu. I ordered it anyway, and honestly, no regrets. It was juicy, flavorful, and better than a lot of regular chicken plates I've had. The Kaka'ako location is clean and modern, service was quick, and it was exactly what we needed after a long event. We would definitely come back to try more. The on-site music artist was good.

Since it was our last meal before leaving Hawaii and there were still a few Hawaiian dishes I hadn't gotten around to trying, this felt like the perfect spot. What I really liked is that they have a sampler plate with a bunch of classic Hawaiian dishes, and the menu actually breaks down what everything is. Clearly this is something people come here for, because it makes trying a little bit of everything way less intimidating. I split the sampler with someone, and overall I was pleasantly surprised. Some of the items didn't look the most appetizing at first glance -- one especially because of the color -- but flavor-wise, everything was actually really good. One of the dishes reminded me of a comforting chicken soup situation, the clear noodles were good, some of the other items were more savory, and it all balanced together well. The lomi salmon was one of my favorites -- kind of like a light, fresh tomato salsa or pico de gallo situation that paired really well with the pork and everything else on the plate. I didn't finish it all because I was already full, but I genuinely liked the variety and thought the flavors were rich and comforting. So if you're curious about Hawaiian food but don't know where to start, this sampler is a great move. Don't let the appearance of some of the dishes scare you off. Service was quick and everyone was nice. At first I kind of wished someone had walked us through the food a little more, but honestly, the menu already does that for you pretty clearly. Overall, I'm glad we came. It was a fun way to try the Hawaiian dishes we hadn't gotten to yet, and I'd come back to try more.

The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

Now I've had a lot of these in my life, and I must say, Iyasume are easily the best. See musubi and onigiri have humble origins as a quickly made homespun snack or on the go lunch, and when you spot them in the convenience environment they're often a giant ball of rice with a tinge of protein or seasoning for flavor. At Iyasume, these are culinary adventures, stacked with ingredients, all in handheld form, and the variety they offer is IMPRESSIVE! Of course musubi starts with the classic, SPAM. I had to order the kimchi + spam, shiso + spam, and unagi + tamago + spam, all of which were awesome (even the next day!). Onigiri here are actually layered with ingredients, so you get them in every bite, unlike the convenience store versions! They have a HUGE menu, and I went with spicy mentaiko and salmon, spicy mentaiko and ikura, ikura and salmon, and tuna mayo curry, all of which were great. I LOVE that they make these to order. You can see the line in the back hard at work, and they're very fast. You're sure to encounter a line when you arrive, but don't be scared, it moves quickly. I only had to wait about 5 minutes for mine to come up! Well worth it. Reasonably priced. Very filling. A taste of Hawaii and Japan in one place that'll have everyone smiling!

I bought kimchi spam, eel spam, inari spam, and a furikake rice ball. Didn't really interact with staff as they didn't offer to help while I viewed the items and I selected my items fairly quickly. I found purchasing four musubis very affortable. Finding parking was tough and expensive in the area. Not the restaurant's fault and probably drivers are not the bulk of their business.

I loved it here. Truly a hole in the wall. Parking is really tough so street parking is usually…read moregonna be the norm unless you get lucky in their tiny shared parking lot. The guava bar was delicious and flavorful and just crumbles in your mouth! Definitely one of the better guava bars I've tried. Love how crumbly it is. The salmon belly was delicious OMFG. It looks so simple and straightforward but that sht is so flavorful. It is crispy and yet soft on the inside. The salmon belly is cut into bite-sized pieces so I didn't have to worry about using a knife to cut it. I usually try salmon belly where it is usually seasoned lightly to bring out the natural flavor of the salmon, but Guava Smoked's salmon belly is just grilled in a way that makes the salmon sweet/crispy and still get traces of the salmon taste as well. It's definitely not your traditional Japanese-style way of cooking salmon belly but really just their own. I'd go back and get this again. Another thing too. I'd get this with beer. This would hit very hard with alcohol but because I don't drink I need a kombucha. The grilled salmon belly would go perfect with it. Cheers! Uncle was very helpful and kind when serving and if you dine-in he brings it to your table.

The patty its self was okay. Nothing super special. Unfortunately no spiciness in this dish. And the kimchi was more on the sweet side rather than the fermented spicy. Tried to add their chili pepper water but again I was left without the fiery kick in my mouth. Definitely has a strong garlicky taste though. Service is quick. But came on a Monday before dinner time so it was slow. Lots of seating and open air flow. Direct parking is limited but street parking is available.

3.5 stars We wanted…read moreto try authentic Hawaiian food and came across this spot. The owner was very friendly and took the time to recommend dishes for us, including the laulau and lechon kawali. We also ordered the BBQ short ribs. Overall, it was a good experience trying Hawaiian food, but it's just not really our type of cuisine. The laulau was quite dry, and the preparation felt more like meat that had been boiled or cooked in liquid, which isn't something I usually enjoy. The lechon kawali had a crispy pork belly texture, topped with something similar to a salsa, but it didn't suit our taste either. Unfortunately, the cabbage served with it also had some black spots, which was off-putting. The BBQ short ribs were the highlight of the meal and the dish we enjoyed the most. We appreciate the experience and the hospitality, but the flavors just didn't quite match our personal preferences.

Then someone wanted to change from rice to poi. I tried many times and no one answered. Their voice mailbox was full. We e ended going there to make the change. He gentleman looked like he was working be himself. We bads to wait almost a half hour for him to finish the order. 2. Price - the prices were higher than expected. All the plates were $26.00 and up. 3. Food - The poi was very tasty and fresh, although a bit watery. The lau lau had a lot of lean pork filling, not a lot of leaves. The long rice didn't have much chicken and was a bit watery too. We enjoyed the sweet potato. There was also lomi salmon, haupia onion and chili pepper water. 4. As mentioned before there isn't much parking. The restaurant wasn't busy when we got there. Overall the food and service was OK. The price was a bit high.
