Amazing cafe with so many options! I went with the Kukui latte since it seems like a local flavor. Love the seating area outside, so many little birds. Really great vibes and would be back

This makes a great weekend brunch spot by the water. Lowkey, full service, peaceful ambiance. Nothing special to note on the service, but they are polite and accommodating. They also leave notes on their signs with positive messages (see photo). On one occasion the outdoor speaker was on blast - not only was it unusual and the volume unsuitable for the ambiance, but the music wasn't good. That was definitely a one-off experience as they usually play good music at a volume that allows for good conversation. The line moves quickly and there are plenty of seats to sit while you wait for them to deliver the food to your table. The coffee, smoothies, and food are all very good. Love the generous lox bagels. Lots of local art on the walls. This place is on regular rotation for us so easy 5 stars.

Tried Island Brew midday, during the week, and it had a line. They were out of the biscuit sandwich, so I got eggs, bacon and toast. My eggs and toast were pretty basic, but other family members got their Monte Christo sandwich and French Toast and it was next level. Really good and nice presentation. Worth the wait! There's lots of seating and a beautiful view too.

I wanted so bad to like this place because it's super cute and the reviews says so! But unfortunately it did not live up to what others were saying. The wait was a bit long for my açaí bowl and it was pretty pricey for what I got! I was hoping to devour it with my son but that wasn't the case. My son loves his açaí bowl And he only took one spoon! That's very unlikely so I had to taste it to see why. I was already sad on how small it was for almost $20! And when I tasted it, it wasn't even sweet! I tried to force it on him and I eventually threw away the entire thing! Sigh.... But the place is super cute. Lots of choices. The staff is a bit slow.... Maybe too chill? I don't know. Won't be back.

Such a beautiful ambiance if you are on the east side of the island. We were lucky enough to get a beautiful day when we visited. I noticed the long line and decided to order ahead while we found our seats. Turns out they place your food outside near the front instead of calling your name when it's done so make sure to check the table outside. I got the eggs caprese, açaí bowl, and spinach salad. The view was beautiful and thankfully we got seats up near the shade which have a really nice view of the water. Opening seating and some areas better for groups than other. Lots of dogs were with their owners eating and my kids trying to pet them all. Such a unique pretty spot. We pretty much served ourselves and cleaned up afterwards. They were busy the entire time we were there.

I'm always suspicious of a coffee house that also has an expansive food menu and a good view. After my family of five crushed koko head, my three kids were starved of food and I was starved of caffeine. All were satisfied and we enjoyed lounging by the lagoon as we prepared to face the real challenge of the day (Costco on a Saturday). Ordering is a bit strange as they bring food to your table but leave drinks for pick up at their counter. The outdoor space is pretty expansive so good luck if you have kids by yourself. Also, post hike with no water, I was a bit surprised to have to ask for ice for the water.

This place is too cute. After our hike we decided to check out this coffee shop. Fell in love with this place. Drinks are reasonably priced and they have unique names. They serve food and pastries. The drinks we had were kukui nut latte, honey girl matcha, and mango sticky rice matcha. All tasted great. Service was pleasant and fast. There are seats inside and outside. Amazing views all around. We were there mid-day so it was really hot outside. Protect your food because the birds will get them. Overall, good place for coffee, food and good conversations.

One of my favorite places to grab coffee, and chill! Everything on their menu is great.. haven't tried a thing I didn't like. My go to is their chicken salad sandwich, but today I finished up a hike and got an açaí bowl, breakfast sandwich and waffles!

Great little cafe for breakfast. So many options to choose from, even as someone who doesn't really like eggs. The vanillla bee cold brew was so so good. I would definitely come back for that. The whole seating area is really nice too. Great views. Would recommend especially before or after that koko hike!

    Breakfast skillet - A+

This is my favorite island brew location but I guess I went on a bad day, (Monday, May 11) they have construction workers drilling next to the water, so it's a beautiful location but you have to listen to the (quite loud) drilling. I had planned to hang out here and get some work done for like an hour but decided there is probably somewhere quieter to hang out. I ordered the breakfast skillet which I saw on the written menu outside, I think it's a new or temporary dish and I really really enjoyed it, I just wish the girl that delivered it to my table warned me the skillet was literally burning hot, since I actually burned my hand on it... When I was heading out I made the mistake of asking the girl with the short blonde hair where the bathroom was and she's like oh to the left of the blue umbrellas... and I'm like ok... I go outside and don't see blue umbrellas, and then I finally find the bathroom which is literally right across from island brew, (that's all she had to say) and there are 2 people outside, so I ask them if they are waiting and one is... an island brew worker passes me and she has a key in her hand, so I'm like oh is that a key for the bathroom? And she's like, it's a ? key as she walks away from me, but I couldn't really hear whatever she said so I follow her down the hall to ask her what she said and she just goes in the bathroom and slams the door, which is when I realize it was probably an employee bathroom and there is a code for the other "public" door and the first girl didn't even tell it to me, the other worker didn't either... oh yeah and it's a one person bathroom FYI -- I've been here before and love love love this totally unassuming spot, there is a Safeway and longs drugs, just a big open lot then this Island Brew which is like an oasis, but never used the bathroom before... I guess now I know. I don't think I'll be back any time soon though...

Update April 27, 2026 I've been coming to island brew since the beginning. 2012 began a wonderful place to go and meet friends with an amazing view of the moanalua bay. Before you find the perfect spot, be sure and order your food from the menu. Don't forget to ask about a secret menu. Iykyk. When you order your food and drinks, you have an array of teas and pastries and breakfast items to figure out what you want. You order and pay, grab your spectacular view and then you're given a cute flower. The flower color indicates your order and the server will be finding you. Please standby for your name to be called for your drink order. My personal favorite is the guava strudel. My new favorite is the ube misu! The purple Hawai'i sweet potato isn't rich with strong icing, it's a subtle creamy flavor with a swirl pound cake. It's onolicious and i wanted to buy the whole cake pan! I just found out that there's a new location in Manoa. I have to go check it out tomorrow! You have this lovely ocean location, you have kakaako, ala moana mall by Bloomingdales and now manoa. You will not be disappointed! Enjoy and don't forget to buy the merch to take home and give as gifts for your souvenirs. Aloha and mahalo!

@fortunefoodfinds: "But first coffee, bc I got a LATTE to BREW! A Banana Bread Latte n' a Kukui Cold Brew from Island Brew Coffeehouse in Hawai'i Kai. They serve a wide variety of food n' drinks, n' have several locations. This was just what I needed to give me some motivation!" SERVICE: fast n' friendly INTERIOR: limited indoor seating, but it's all about the outdoor views. Got lost in the menus so I stuck with what I went there for, which was coffee; helped narrow down my choices. EXTERIOR: plenty of seating with most under umbrellas. In the same plaza as Long's n' Safeway. WAIT TIME: under 5 mins to place order, another 5 mins to receiving drinks PARKING: free lot OVERALL COMMENTS: got myself the banana bread latte that wasn't so much banana-y. Although it was still very delicious. Literally took my first sip n' thought how yuMmmy. Perfectly sweet n' balanced well with the coffee. Mah hubz kukui cold brew was also really good. I'm not a cold brew person, but the macnut flavored cold brew along with the coconut flavored cold foam had no traces of bitterness n' gave a nice sweetness. Even though both drinks were on the pricier side (had to do with the 20oz we got), they ended up being worth the yuMmminess!

I was wondering if this is a good place to study and get some work done?

Yes! This place is perfect! There is ample seating and free wifi. You can also choose to sit outdoors although I'm not sure how far the wifi will reach. It does become busier on weekends but if you come early you can still find a good seat.…

Does your chai latte contain any gluten?

No. It's made with coconut condensed milk, spices and Tea!

Will you guys be open for mother's day?

Yes we will. Thanks for considering us!

Where do you park?need reservations to seat outside during lunch hour?

There’s parking at the shopping center. Hawaii Kai shopping center same as Safeway. Turn in and drive straight back. No reservations but usually not that busy. Thanks

Who would have thought that putting a coffee shop in a hidden outdated strip mall in a tiny neighborhood valley would pop off? Yet it does. It feels current, it feels now. Surf Camp shares its name with its sister the popular Surf Camp attire and retail store which is the older sister as well to Up and Riding for kids- a surf themed clothing, accessories and shoes store in Kahala Mall. All of these spots exhibit a taste level, an eye for trends, and quality products. There's also a subtle but felt honoring of what makes local, local, underneath everything. I think that's what adds to the success. They know how to create a look, a vybe. Now when it comes to coffee I'd just like to do the shrugged emoji girl. Some of it I just can"t get into. I think I'm too old to get on the matcha bandwagon. I really just want drip coffee or espresso shots. I don't need fancy. I don't like milk. But my friends do, and I love my friends. If you want an experience with your beverage, a chill spot to sit and chat with your homies, or are headed out to Sandy's, Makapuu, Koko Head, or any of the other fun, beautiful spots this side has to offer, check out Surf Camp. A cozy corner in the heart of Kaimuki :)…read more I happened to find this place when I was searching for cafes around the area, and it did not disappoint. Honey Matcha Latte is my current favorite: just the right balance of matcha, milk and honey :) The vibes are so nice. You'll be greeted by the green green plants (which are actually for sale!), and then grab a drink down the hall. I also like how they have a "Sip & Chill Zone" where no ipads or computer work are allowed, so you can just relax and talk story. This is my favorite spot because I can just do some people watching by the window as I sip my matcha latte. It's a nice place to detach from the hustle even just for a while.

I want to start off by saying, my boyfriend loves this place! This is easily his number one go-to…read morespot for coffee, matcha, or just picking up a plant. The environment they've curated in here is so unique, it's something you can't really replicate or find anywhere else on the island. The photos show a couple of our favorites. Lee Jae loves the Sakura Matcha and I'm all about the Lavender Matcha. Their syrups are house made too, which is a huge plus and something I always look for in a cafe. I do wish they did have more milk options though! I love soy milk but always have to opt in for regular milk. Other than that everything still tastes amazing! The service is top tier every time, and they even bring the drinks right to you. The staff is so welcoming and they really know their plants, so if you ever need help or you're hunting for something specific they've got you. If you're in town or visiting, it's definitely worth stopping by for a drink or plant!
