I have been to Bean About Time multiple times over the years, and love it every time. COFFEE: I usually get an iced latte, and each time it has been delicious. You can tell they use high quality beans and it has a smooth flavor. I don't even need to add a flavor to my lattes (although they do have that option). TREATS: I got a scone today for under $4 and have gotten banana bread in the past. Each baked good has been fresh and reasonably priced (sometimes scones are $6-$7 in LA) SERVICE: Each time I go, the barista is kind and friendly, usually talking story with a regular. They also make their drinks fast (less than a 5 min wait). AMBIANCE: Their store is tiny, really just made for ordering with a few benches. Outside they have a few tables and seating. They may also have seating on the street ("parklet") although most recently I didn't think to check. I have done work here before using a hotspot and have always found seating. It seems to be a more grab and go spot especially considering how tiny it is in the actual store. PARKING: They have a few stalls in the lot shared with the apartment building nearby marked "Visitor". There is also metered street parking in the area. Parking hasn't been an issue for me. Altogether a super cute local spot with high quality coffee. One of my faves on Oahu for sure. read more

The original Bean About Town is in Kaimuki :) their Waikiki location will be closing so this will be the main location. Their BB Hot Choccy is their signature and the drink I always get. I prefer it hot but they also can do iced! Always love the pretty latte art that they do when you get it hot. I also really love their Croque Monsieur sandwich. I love how simple and delicious it is - almost like a panini. Service is always kind and quick and I hope they stay for a long time! Bean About Town is a local coffee/matcha latte joint in Kaimuki, the hipster/trend center of Oahu. This area gives me Portland, OR vibes which was really cool. I tried their iced BB (butterscotch bourbon) latte per recommendation from their cashier, and I did like the coffee itself but didn't taste much of their homemade syrup. The BB syrup also does not dissolve properly and leaves a weird emulsion texture at the bottom and rim of the cup. If they reformulate the syrup to be more readily dissolvable in the latte, would give 4*. Their atmosphere and scones look great. I also tried my friends coffee which I liked more than the BB latte. I used to frequent this spot when it was The Curb. I always found it cozy and a nice comfortable place to get some really nice espresso shots. Nothing has changed about the atmosphere when it became Bean About Town. They have excellent local coffees roasted in-house and specialty single origins and blends brought in. That means you can get some very special shots pulled by the baristas, who are knowledgeable and friendly. It doesn't matter if you're are an aficionado or a casual novice to coffee. You will find this a chill and comfortable place to relax - they've put in cozy benches outside the entrance and some welcome tables by the stairs. Everywhere inside are wooden kokeshi dolls that express friendship. Take a look at all the different ones. They are really neat. In addition to espresso you can also get some specialty coffee and matcha drinks. There is some heated food, fruit breads, canales, and scones to get you going. I like to visit all of the coffee shops in Kaimuki and try to visit the smaller ones more often. However, I may not return to this location. Parking is small but I always find a spot and if not there are plenty of street parking in the area. I ordered a large cold brew with no ice. It was great however, they upcharged me $1.50 for getting it with no ice. I like to get my cold drinks with no ice when it's possible since I like to drink it throughout the day instead of within an hour. After the cashier entered the drink in the register, he said "oh you said no ice." And then proceeded to add the upcharge without even telling me about the upcharge. Been here a couple times, the owner harassed my friend and was blatantly rude to them / banned them from the store when he found out she worked at another cafe. He knows where I work because he's seen me working before, every time I had gone to bean in the past and he's there I get weird looks from him which is weird, because I am choosing to come so business at your shop even tho I can get something for better from my shop. The matcha quality has gone down, it tastes like milk nothing else, the coffee the few times I've tried it was bitter and sour, the baristas didn't shock the shots fast enough I guess, the food is overpriced and a kind of mid. I've been coming to this café in Kaimuki since i discovered it in February --49 visits to be exact--because I genuinely loved it. The coffee is amazing, easily one of the best roasts I've had on the island, and the small outdoor seating area gives it a cozy, tucked-away vibe. It became one of my go-to spots to study, read, and bring friends (especially coworkers from another café) because I wanted them to experience how good it is. What made it special to me, though, was the staff. There's a duo that works there who remembered my order after just the first week. It's not like my order was complicated--just an iced mocha with oat milk, a little extra sweet--but that small gesture made me feel genuinely welcomed and seen every time I came in. That's why this experience was so disappointing... About two weeks ago, a friend and I were sitting outside and had hit a vape. We were told no smoking, and we immediately apologized and left within a few minutes--no issue there, completely understandable. Fast forward to today: I was sitting outside again near closing time, not really in the best headspace, and absentmindedly hit my vape, not remembering i was told not to. The owner, Oliver, pulled me aside and said an employee felt disrespected because I had previously been told no smoking and still did it again. I completely understood, took accountability, and apologized multiple times. I was then told to leave immediately and that I'm no longer welcome back. While I accept that my actions had consequences, what happened next made the situation feel extremely uncomfortable and honestly unsettling... About 15 minutes later, I had walked to the café where I work (which is nearby), and the same owner came in shortly after. He didn't order anything--instead, he stood there staring me down across the counter. The tension was noticeable enough that my coworker told me to step to the back. He then asked to speak to a manager, and when told the manager on duty was a woman, he specifically asked for the "boss." When told they weren't available, he left his number and left. The manager called him shortly after asking what she could do for him and he said nothing, he only wanted to speak to the boss. This felt excessive and inappropriate. Being asked to leave a business for breaking a rule is one thing--but following someone to their workplace and attempting to escalate things further crosses a line. I truly did love this café and supported it heavily, spending hundreds of dollars there, posting them on social media every week and recommending it to others. That's what makes this situation so disappointing. I take responsibility for my mistake, but the way this was handled afterward didn't feel respectful or professional. I feel soooooooo uncomfortable. Would've left more stars if I wasn't followed and stared down at in my workplace...? read more

Okay so this is the most cutest coffee shop you will ever go too! The name itself is already catchy. They are in kaimuki right across of the playground. They have Parking but I did find street parking right in front of the shop. The shop is super small but they do have seating right outside. It does get crowded because every seat was taken the time I was there, but I took my coffee to go. Now to the fun part. I wanted a popular drink that everyone would get from them and the worker gave me a suggestion to get the iced BB latte. I got it and do not regret because its signature taste is butterscotch. It's like those butterscotch candy you used to eat as a child but make it coffee. YUM!!! I loved it so much especially because they didn't make it too sweet. I've been around town and now I can say I've Bean About Town! My norm on the weekends is spending time at various cafes. I had yet to try this little coffee shop so was even more inclined when I asked my friend if she wanted anything. I've driven past Bean About Town multiple times and noted it's a cute and colorful sign on the outside. The shop is on the smaller end with a few wooden benches outside and inside. As you enter you're greeted with the aroma of coffee beans and warm pastries filling the air. The menu board is displayed at the front where you're able to order and pay with the cashier. The service was sweet by the baristas working who offered their own recommendations. Drinks came out relatively fast and straws, napkins, and more are on the side to grab. I'm a certified matcha maniac. So of course I ordered a Small Iced Matcha Latte with Soy and Coconut--recommended by the barista. Coconut and matcha was an interesting pairing. It was refreshing, earthy, not too sweet, and heavy on the coconut flavor. What intrigued me about this local spot is the pastries they offered. The sweet pastries have their own local flare. After seeing photos on Yelp, I was curious about trying their French Canele of Bordeaux. The only time I tried a Canele was in Korea and I loved it so I thought it would be fun to compare. The canele here was tall, round, and small. The texture was firm yet bouncy to the touch and it tasted slightly sweet with a burnt caramelization. I also grabbed a couple of pastries for my friends. Kaimuki is hustling and bustling with lots of eateries and cafes, Bean About Town is one of them. If you love a good cup of coffee or tea, I recommend checking them out! They offer your traditional caffeinated beverages along with sweet and savory bites. The shop is a small cute hole-in-the-wall place with friendly service. Another plus is the free parking located inside Nobu's Park Center building. Even though they have some seating, this cafe gives more of a grab-and-go vibe or sit and talk with friends; it is not the best place to work or study. Walked by this little coffee shop and wanted to try it so we came back this morning. First of all, it's a really cute place, but pretty small and squishy. Waiting in line with people squeezing past you to get in and out was a little uncomfortable. But the baristas were nice and seemed efficient! I ordered an iced latte with oat milk, no sweetener. I usually always order this when trying a new coffee place as sort of a benchmark test. My latte was good, but nothing special. The downside is they charged me an extra $1.50 for oatmilk, which I thought was ridiculous. Most of my favorite coffee shops charge 50 cents $1 max. (Side tangent: it kinda bothers me when coffee shops try to profit off milk alternatives, as they are often cheaper than cows milk these days). There was lots of seating outside, which is great, but I decided to take my coffee to go. Overall, it's good, but I'm not impressed. Their lineup primarily highlights Kona and Ka'u coffees with some seasonal offerings from other islands. I got their Kona Red Bourbon, and for a medium roast, the flavor profile packed the punch as a light roast. It was very smooth and fruity, with highlighted notes of strawberry and guava. If I had not opened so many coffee bags at home, I definitely would have bought one. If you're more of the less adventurous type when seeking great pour-over coffee, this place is for you. Found this cute little coffee shop in kaimuki that offers up some great coffee options. Parked on the street parking in front of the park. Metered parking so it was nice. The shop is small, they have benches to sit on but if there are people sitting on the it gets pretty crowded in there when ordering. The option to sit outside is nice but not great for kids because it's like 12" from the driveway. They offer local coffee blended with other countries. I saw a bourbon mix that I would love to try. I ordered a cortado, baby chino, and macchiato coffee for us. They also had ulu bread and a lemon coconut energy ball. The ulu bread a little dry but the energy ball was pretty good. The cortado was good too. The person I ordered from was very helpful and patient while we ordered. If you are in the area, definitely check it out! read more

At the time, I thought: Some day, I'll return because it has free parking in Nobu's Park Center on Waialae Avenue (across from the Kaimuki Community Park)! This morning, I had some time between appointments. I needed a quick, light meal and decided to visit Bean About Town. Parking was easy, but as I passed by the entrance, I thought that I would have to wait long for my order because there were several people standing outside, and a couple of customers seated in the outside area. That wasn't the case because the staff were so efficient! There were three staff working like a well-oiled machine! The male seemed to be the barista, while one female did the pour overs, and the female in the center was the cashier/order taker. I approached cautiously and stated that I needed a non-dairy beverage and that I wanted latte art. The barista said that he could do an oat milk latte... Yay! When I was asked what type of flavor I wanted, I replied, "Matcha". I also got a canelé because I saw photos of them. They're like round, tall, flower-shaped mochi, but not sticky. It's a dense, moist pastry that's not too sweet. I sat on a cushioned bench inside and waited for my order. My matcha oat milk latte was just right! It complimented my warmed up canelé well! I love it when I find a good coffee shop in town! This is literally a little hole-in-the-parking lot type of place. It's a cute coffee shop that's meant for those on the go. They have a couple of benches inside, but I think it's for those who are waiting for their drinks. In other words, it's not really a place to hang out. I added a shot of espresso and oat milk. The total came out to over $7, which is a bit pricey, but not too far off from other coffee shops in the area. The drink was so delicious, creamy and smooth. It was like drinking dessert! I would definitely order it again. In addition to various coffee and tea drinks, they also offer smoothies and delicious looking pastries and waffles! The coffee shop is located on Waialae Ave and there is free parking available in the lot directly behind their shop. This is a huge plus, as parking is hard to find in that area.
