Wonderful coffee to take home, but beware, you need to order ahead of time to pickup. When I stopped by on my way to the airport, the owner said she did not have any for sale. She said all coffees are pre-sold and orders are taken in advance as they roast fresh what they sell. When I looked depressed and dejected, she said they have about 10# of espresso coffee beans just roasted and if I would like that. Of course, I said yes and bought 2lbs. Next morning after landing back home, the espresso beans were just amazing. They were not as dark as I thought - it was the perfect dark roast I was looking for. Not burnt - very low acid - wonderful fruity taste/aroma. Going to mail order another 5# and try their other roasts. read more

A delicious hidden gem in the ever growing and changing Kaka'ako! I saw them at the Kapiolani Farmer's Market, and I should've bought back then but I didn't. So I tracked them down and little did I know they had limited hours during the week. I rolled up after they closed, but since I worked out at UFC, I came the next morning! The owners are great! Friendly and will grind your beans if you ask. I bought the Hawaiian House blend and the 100% Kona. I brought them back to the mainland and the flavors are amazing! Such a great product and company! Koko Head Coffee Roasters did all of our roasting while we operated N'Kope Coffee. The master roaster, Kamaka Hoopai, was very skilled and knowledgable about all coffee beans, especially the raw beans grown on the Hawaiian islands. Although N'kope isn't around anymore, I'll still buy my coffee from Koko Head Coffee Roasters. Despite frequent visits to my favorite coffee shop ARVO, I never bothered to explore Kaka'ako (especially on foot) as I assumed it would be full of a) ridiculously expensive condos that none of my friends or I will be able to afford b) tourists roaming around with their cameras 3) homeless. But when I was stranded for 2 hrs while waiting for Fifi (my Fiat) to get an oil change, I had to choose between killing two hours in a boring (but air conditioned!) lounge or hoofing it, and boy am I glad I chose the latter. While roaming Kaka'ako, I stumbled across a smiling Japanese woman who beckoned me over with promises of coffee (a surefire way to lure me in...just FYI in case any one is planning to kidnap me). After sampling some excellent blends, we got to talking about coffee (they are one of the few microroasters who roast their own beans here on the island). And since I find Kona beans tend to be too acidic for my palate, I was pleasantly surprised to find their house blend uses Maui beans. The couple running the shop, Kalani & Masami, are super welcoming and infectiously enthusiastic about their products which range from a variety of local beans (Kona, Maui, Molokai, etc) to worldwide (Central & South America, Sumatran, etc) all of which are freshly roasted every week. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to meet their master roaster, Kamaka (also Kalani's big bro), who was out creating custom blends today. Anyway, I brought home a bag of the espresso and it is incredibly good! Smooth, nice crema, and not too acidic. Now I'm planning to convince my office manager to switch to these beans since we'd not only be supporting local but enjoying excellent coffee in the office as well. Stopped by Koko Crater when I was visiting Hawaii and looking for some coffee beans to take back home with me. The store was closed but the owners wife was nice enough to let me in and talk to me for a bit as she put her other work to the side. I bought a few bags of coffee that were roasted only a few days prior and I've been brewing them ever since. The 100% Maui coffee is one of the most delicious cups I've ever tasted and their other blends are all also exceptional. I couldn't recommend any other coffee roaster over this one! read more

This place is my wife's favorite place to buy coffee!!! It is a small local spot down the road from Salt Kakaako. They sell their coffee to a few local shops (Vintage Island n few other spots). They are very friendly and give great customer service! We got a fresh bag of coffee yesterday when we got there around 10:00am. We will be back soon and continue to buy more coffee. :) read more

I'm a real coffee snob so when I decided to try Koko Crater coffee, I was skeptical because I'm really not big on Hawaiian coffees. I was pleasantly surprised at their variety and very knowledgeable staff to explain the different flavor profiles help me choose which coffee suits me best. I prefer medium blend blends of South American coffees and they were able to satisfy my needs and the coffee is superb you can tell there is extreme care given to each roast to get the perfect coffee everytime. read more

A local suggested I check out the Kapiolani Community College Farmers Market while visiting Oahu. I thought to myself that I'd never find it so I didn't even try to look it up. I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon it on my way to Diamond Head. I wanted to buy some Kona coffee and these guys seemed to know their stuff when I chatted with them. Contrary to the older review, they do offer medium roast coffee beans (perhaps they didn't before). Because I had my fill of coffee that day, I didn't try the Kona but took a risk and bought a bag for $25. We take our coffee seriously and are super-picky San Franciscans. My husband and I both agree that this Kona is excellent! It's so smooth and flavorful. I've had other Kona roasters and have not been impressed. I almost gave up thinking that Kona is just a gimmick. So glad I gave it another chance and found Koko Crater. I'll be ordering soon from their website! read more
