Tallarine Huancaino con Lomo al Jugo

Well, they were very welcoming at first. My friend and I came for dinner. First, I don't feel the restaurant is very clean. My friend ordered a water and a plastic jug was brought out and there was grime all over the lid which made us not even want to drink from it. There's glass on the tables and at the counter that I feel should be kept clean given that it is always near food. The decor is nice, very Peruvian proud. love that. There's a tv with a show showing the women there on some cooking show, very cool and interesting. Good music too. The food? Pretty damn tasty. At least the dishes that actually made it to our table. They start you with free chips and salsas, which are again, very tasty. I ordered Tallarine Huancaino con Lomo. The steak was very tender and juicy. My friend ordered a salad and never actually got it, eventually someone asked if we were okay (he probably noticed she wasn't eating) but at that point, we were ready to leave. I had to remind them to remove the salad from our tab too! The service was just very lackluster. The prices on the menu weren't actually what was charged, which it says at the top they are subject to change but I feel it should just be updated on the menu? They also validate parking for only one hour but that's about how long it takes for them to take your order and get your food to you, so keep that in mind! I gave two stars, one for ambiance and one for food taste. I'm taking stars off for cleanliness and service.

Lunch menu Arroz Con Pollo. Not bad for what you get in terms of food and the price.

My expectations were perhaps a bit limited due to not knowing about the restaurant. However, after having ate over there, my opinion has changed. So...I haven't had Peruvian food before, and having gone to Mimi's, I have to say...it wasn't that bad. First time entering there, and the food was definitely worth the experience. From the decor to the food, everything about it felt welcoming upon first glance. I had their lunch menu Arroz Con Pollo, which...I have to say, for the amount of food you get to price, this is actually reasonable. I would have liked a bigger piece of chicken in ratio to the rice, but in terms of flavor, they hit it very well. All in all, it was a nice trip over there. Not bad, Mimi's. You definitely made me a happy customer after my first visit there.

Shame on me, Mimi's has been at this location since 2009 and only now I'm tasting how delicious their food is!! On a late Friday night, our party of five arrived to try dinner and most at our table never had Peruvian food before. We were seated at a long table nearest the front window, where Kathia went page by page of their picture menu to describe the ingredients and Peruvian flavors to first-timers. She is very patient and quite entertaining as well :) This was such a delicious experience! We started with the classic ceviche mahimahi with freshly squeezed lime. I've had ceviche before but Mimi's recipe is bold and full of spice. I loved this incredible appetizer and have a deeper appreciation for this Peruvian traditional dish. Will totally order this again! Another great appetizer was their yucca frita. A two-step process, they steam cassava root slices and then deep fry it. This was served with a cheesy spicy Peruvian dipping sauce, so good. Each slice was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Next we had the Jalea de Mariscos which had a nice variety of fried seafood. Everything from fish, calamari, shrimp, clams, and scallop was generously served on a long platter and topped with Mimi's salsa criolla (tasty relish of onions, garlic, chili peppers, and vinegar). So good, we ate it all!! Next we had the arroz con mariscos which was described as the Peruvian version of seafood paella. The rice was tender and full of flavor. The mixed seafood was also generous and seasoned well. We were getting full and packed up the leftover to enjoy later. Last but certainly not least, we tried their pesco de la macho or seafood stew. Such a rich and creamy sauce, full of flavor. I actually dipped the yucca fritas in this luscious sauce because I didn't want to waste it LOL. Again, another large portion that we couldn't finish so we packed up the leftover to enjoy later. For those of you that like hot chili spice, Mimi's rocoto sauce is no joke. Literally it is fire so if that's your grove, it is provided complimentary with their crackers before your meal is served. Our party loved this first-time dining at Mimi's. We met her too! Mimi's daughter and grandson are doing an excellent job to perpetuate her legacy of delicious Peruvian cuisine. Even though it was near closing time, they were super nice and didn't rush us out. Note: as of January 3, 2025 they are BYOB and they didn't charge us a fee for the drinks we brought with us ;) Loved it, loved it, loved it! Will certainly be a repeat customer here.

Came here upon recent discovery of Peruvian cuisine and reviews on Yelp but was a bit disappointed. We came specifically for Lomo Saltado having had a 5-star experience in California. This restaurant did not come close to our expectations. Taste was very weak. With regard to the restaurant, it is a family owned establishment with only 8 tables inside. Service is great as we were the only ones inside at noon. We met the mom and I suppose, the daughter and the cook. Be sure to check in Yelp to get 10% discount.

I am so glad I came across Mimi's Peruvian Cuisine! I actually was headed to a Thai spot but when I saw Mimi's Peruvian nearby and checked the Yelp reviews, I changed my destination! I haven't had Peruvian food in a long time. Mimi"s is a small family owned restaurant. There's abput 7-8 tables. The service was friendly and energetic. I ordered the Lomo Saltado lunch. Portion size was enough for lunch but I had the option fot the larger dinner portion. Truthfully, i wouldnt have finished the dinner size. Tasty! Best Lomo Saltado I've had and I've eaten it at some Peruvian restaurants in NYC and San Diego. Hopefully I will get back to Mimi's before I leave Honolulu. I want to try at least one other dish. I recommend this place!

The food was spectacular. Coming from California, we have tried a lot of different Peruvian restaurants. This one had extremely unique dishes that we haven't seen made elsewhere, and had a very relaxing and homey atmosphere. Their ceviche and conchitas a la Parmesana were amazing.

Two co-workers and I were in the Keeaumoku area just after 12pm and tried Mimi's Peruvian Cuisine for lunch. There was some trepidation because the place was empty, not a good sign in our book. Our server was very friendly and brought over a dish of fried chips and two small dishes of (very spicy) Aji and Salsa Verde. (FYI, it's not free.) We ordered Seco De Carne (slow-cooked beef with beans and rice), Arroz Con Pollo (slow-cooked cilantro rice with two chicken thighs) and Tallarine Huancainos Con Pollo (pasta w/cheese and strips of chicken in Huancainos sauce). The food was well-seasoned and prepared properly. The beef in the Seco De Carne was very tender and the chicken in the Arroz Con Pollo remained moist. I loved the tallarine pasta; it was al dente and so flavorful. I also liked the heat of the aji (chili) and added it atop my chicken. The bill came to $65, excluding tip. We liked the food and wished Mimi's was located downtown. Bottom line: I would definitely want to return and can recommend Mimi's.

You know this restaurant's food is gonna be delicious when you see the owner's kid helping around the restaurant haha. I lost track how many times I been wanting to try this place out, probably about several years lol. My boyfriend asked me where I wanted to eat for dinner so I chose here since it's been on my food adventuring list way too long. We arrived at the restaurant and it was very small but nicely decorated with Peruvian items on the walls. We went on a Friday night and surprisingly the restaurant appeared to be not busy yet. The lady in the front greeted us, she let us sit anywhere in the restaurant, gave our menus, and she asked us if we want our water from tap or bottle? I find it kind of odd to ask since most restaurants are from tap but I just went with the bottle water since it's more cleaner I guess? She gave us plastic cups to go with our water bottles too. We ordered: *Arroz Con Pollo (Slow cooked chicken with cilantro pea rice) *Aji De Gallina (Shredded chicken breast in spicy parmesan cream with potato and rice) Only thing to keep in mind that sometimes there maybe some items that maybe not available or sold out so make sure to plan ahead for your meals. While waiting, the owner's kid (I think?) served us some complimentary pita chips with spicy salsa and spinach sour cream dip. It was a delicious appetizer to help distract us from the 10-15min wait for our food. Our food finally arrives and I took a bite of the chicken and cilantro rice. Mmmm I just loved the way the chicken just easily melted off the bone and the rice was very fragrant and flavorful. I didn't try my boyfriend's meal since I wanted to focus on mine because it had a lot cilantro rice. I honestly think this plate is good for 2 people because the chicken and rice portion was very massive! I will most definitely buy this again! As for payment, you have to walk up to the cashier because the restaurant got very busy later on so they don't have time to stop over your table. I will be back to try the other items on the menu too.

Tallarines Huancainos con Lomo al Jugo (chicken)

Work lunch Wednesday was delivered to us from Mimi's Peruvian cuisine. The delivery services would not deliver any earlier than 1 pm even though Mimi's opens at 12. I order the Tallarines Huancainos con Lomo al Jugo. I have never had it before and sounded pretty safe. I chose the chicken option but it seems you can get beef or vegetarian. I thought the chicken was ok and the pasta, while creamy, was spicy. The spice made it taste good but I couldn't pin point any other spices or flavorings. Wish there were some contrasting flavors.

Very cozy family run, feels like home, great flavors delivered with a smile! Nice portions. Ran out of empanadas, so will be back for that. Ceviches were delicious and fresh! BYOB and lots of parking.

Tacu Tacu con Lomo AL jugo with beef

Dined here many times and have yet to have a bad experience. The food is amazing, the service is great, the portion size and value is phenomenal. I'm hesitant to write a glowing review because I like that it's easy to walk in and get a table, but at the same time I would hate for the place to go away due to not enough patronage. My absolute favorite dish is the tacu tacu con Lomo al jugo with beef. Just get it. Great flavors and textures all around. The calamari is also a great choice. An added benefit to the already great value is the BYOB. It really is the only Peruvian food on the island but I'm happy it's great.

The location off the beaten path is what originally drew me in. The exterior patio seating with blue umbrellas made me curious. Once I walked inside, I instantly knew the Cuban food was going to hit. Not only did it hit, it exploded into space and I returned 4 times on my vacation and recruited family members to go multiple times as well. On my first solo visit, I was going in to strictly get coffee and then decided to give a main dish a shot which was the traditional cuban. Let me tell you - I wish my husband was with me as the portions here are out of this world. This dish came out on a colorful dish on top of a bamboo board with fruit galore! It looked like a painting that I shouldn't touch but rightfully did. Needless to say, I had a leftover box on day 1. I then returned more times and want to highlight the Monte Castro sandwich which I fortunately or unfortunately split with my husband. Unreal!! It was drizzled in honey, served on the bamboo plate, had double decker bread and a plethora of fruit and some picked veggies on the side. I don't want to say more because I want everyone to go and split this meal with a loved one. It is award winning deserving. For my 3rd visit, I had the papaya bowl and once again - it was fantastic and required a to-go box as well. I'm so sad to know I'll never get to try the tres leche French toast as my vacation is coming to a close and there are so many more items I wanted to try. First, being Hawaii, decent means not using pasta sauce to replace pico, not using shredded processed cheese, and not using refried beans from a can. Don't think of comparing this to that "authentic ethnic" spot in LA or the over border drunken stint in TJ. All the requisites from tortas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, sopas including pozole and menudo, on offer. Complimentary C&S, just OK. Kinda soggy chips and the watery salsa doesn't much depth despite being fire roasted and not much spice heat. No complaints on the basic rice and refried beans that accompanied the large, stuffed trio of chicken empanadas (usually comes with two, add an additional for $5). Flavorful enough but not that complex mole. They are finished off with some sour cream, raw onions and crumbled cotija. Solid. Fast, friendly service with servers who seem to know their regulars well. Fair pricing with almost everything sub $30. It is what it is. Not bad for Hawaii and works to scratch the Mexican itch.

Side note, the last time I ordered the stew/rice combo, it wasn't enough for the Mr, and since there was rice at home, he ordered the stew separate. I was in a meeting, and would enjoy my food after I was done. As I stepped out of my home office, I see hubs hardly at any stew, and I asked him if he was waiting for me to eat. He said no, and told me "if you want the stew, you can have it". Oh no, I know exactly what that means, so I offered him half of my pastele plate. He said no, and he looked bummed out. I knew I would need to reheat my plate, as it sat for 20 minutes before I got to eat it. While I was reheating my plate, I took a bite of his stew. I had to stop and look at the stew and it looked different. So I took another bite. The taste was ok (not like the amazing stew in the past), but the meat had a different texture. One more bite.....that's when I realized and then asked hubs, "Is that ground pork? Is that why it's different?" And he agreed, "that's what it is! ground pork!" The flavor was a bit off too, but the meat made all the difference. My reheated #5 plate was fine, a little bit salty, but just fine, no complaints. Finished up with the pastele lumpia, which was greasy (usually is unless its fresh) and asked hubs about the bill. Well, I understand inflation is a terrible thing for small businesses and consumers, but my jaw dropped when he said it was $50. And he wasn't a happy camper about the price or the stew. -Sigh- I don't give up easily on places I've enjoyed for years, so I will be back, eventually.

The chicken was very moist and flavorful not spicy or loaded with sauce though it's standardly comes with cheese you're able to pile on the toppings by adding extras like more cheese or four types of salsa for +$2...oh my gosh what a fun and generous portions she serves here...it's all love! Thank you!

Was going to order an empanada, 2 drinks and arepa but they said $38. Paid $20 for 2 drinks and 1 empanada instead. Boy o boy did I regret it! $3 for each bottle water?! So that makes the empanada $14?!....lets talk about it! I understand your an arepa truck. But this empanada seems like is made with the same dough as the arepa but just fried. It was so gross and mushy. On top of it the price that was crossed off said $7 under it. I figure, maybe price change is like....$8/$9. Sheesh $14? That's a big difference. Basically paid double. Wasn't even worth it. It was so gross and lacked any flavor. Took me 3 bites to get into the center where the meat filling was. First and last time I'll be eating here!

Mexican sounded good to everyone so we picked this spot and we're all very happy we did. Our server was kind and attentive. The place was lovely and decorated with just the amount of fun you expect. Some great photo ops in there. He even told us they were having a mariachi band tomorrow and invited us to come back. The food from the start with nachos and salsa to the end with tres leches was all delicious. I ordered the chorizo queso and it was fantastic. My son ordered the guacamole and it was so fresh and limey. Also delicious. My grandkids shared a quesadilla which was definitely large enough to do so with. My oldest grandson ordered a torte and he loved it. Also a generous portion. My son and I both ordered the grande burrito. He got his wet and I didn't. His was served on a plate and mine came wrapped in foil in a basket. I wish it would have also come on a plate. I like to cut it up to eat and the foil made that difficult to do. We ordered the tres leches to go because we were all so full. Enjoyed it the next day. Three of us could share on piece. It's delicious but very rich.

It took a while to order and to get her attention throughout our time there, but we eventually received everything we ordered. The birria was very tasty, with juicy meat and a crispy shell. The Margarita flights were small, mini tastings which left us wanting more (and yes, we did order more). Regarding the tres leches, it's not the greatest we've ever had but not the worst.
