I was craving fish tacos at night and luckily South Shore was just a quick drive away. You can tell this is one of those casual local spots. They have a great variety of options on their menu, and I ordered the ono tacos, a kalbi taco, and onion rings. It seemed like there was only one chef and two girls were working the register and maybe prepping the takeout orders? Food took maybe 15 minutes and the portions were generous. The fish tacos were soooo tasty, especially with the cabbage slaw they put on top. It was marinated with some delicious sauce and made the taco. The kalbi was also a solid choice, and the meat was savory and flavorful. Also, the onion rings were fried to order and make sure to get a side of their addicting garlic aioli. Well done South Shore Grill!

Chicken Breast Plate with Garlic Butter, Fries and Cole Slaw.

I enjoyed a very reasonably priced dinner at this restaurant. I ordered the Chicken Breast Plate with Garlic Butter Sauce, Fries and Cole Slaw. A strawberry soda to drink. The food was fresh and tasty and hit the spot. You order at the front and pick up your food and seat yourself. The gentleman that took my order was friendly and very efficient. The vibe is relaxed and the restaurant is clean and laid out well. It was my first visit, but I would definitely return.

Kalbi plate perfectly cooked and flavored with fries n slaw - sister loved it

So ono haven't been here in along time - was AMAZING fresh fish - fresh slaw - and perfectly cooked fries ... the vibe is chill staff let me know how long of a wait was - I went at busy time after Sunday sunset - friendly service and how fun to see the owner on the grill ... I'll be back sorry was soo hungry as you can see here

Today is double shrimp burrito day. Every bite so good. Same great service with a smile.

I found this restaurant on Yelp because of its high ratings. I did notice a few negative reviews but decided to give it a try anyway. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. The restaurant felt rundown, and the dining space was extremely small. The seating area in the back felt cramped, closed off, and almost claustrophobic, so I chose to sit in the front instead. As for the food, it was disappointing. The fish was dry and rubbery, the beef was very salty, and I did not care for the rice. The vegetables were heavily covered in mayonnaise, which was not to my taste. I only took a few bites of my meal and did not finish it. My husband finished his meal and described it as "okay," but neither of us felt it was anything special. The one positive was the service. The staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Overall, based on the atmosphere, food quality, value, and the drive to get there, I would not return. While others may have a different experience, this restaurant simply was not worth the price for me.

Great service! Ana was super helpful. Gets busy for a small place, so sometimes the food takes a while. Worth the wait for the Kalbi Burrito.

The girl at the front was friendly and there are probably around 20-25 seats available for dine in. There is a bathroom available for patrons, but you have to be lucky with parking sometimes. Food was good and the portions were adequate for the price. They have stars next to their popular dishes so that helps when you're undecided on what to eat. I would definitely come back to try other items.

We got the chicken burritos & they were soooooooo delicious the wait was a little bit long but definitely worth it!!!!! The place is very clean & staff was friendly.

We stopped by for dinner on a Friday night with my friends from out of town. The street parking was super easy after 7pm surprisingly even on a Friday. I ordered the ono with pesto mac nut sauce on top. The food was great! I would come back! Even though there were a lot of people coming in for takeout, we were the only ones eating there, so it felt nice and laid-back. Just know that dining in here is pretty much self-serve. You grab your own utensils, water, and pick up your food at the counter so it's very casual. Take out is also an option if you want to hang out with your dog!

SSG mix, kalbi, bbq chix, tuna mac, and fish taco
    John N.

Went for fish tacos, but got the SSG mixed instead. Service 10/10. Fish Tacos always 10/10. Kalbi 8/10 good flavor little bit tough. BBQ chix 8/10. Tuna mac 7/10, something new to me, maybe I'm not used to it. Hapa rice, I prefer white rice but it's ok. Overall, I love this place. If there is an open stall out front I'll stop. Support local.

I've been a regular at South Shore Grill for nearly 20 years, and it's still one of my favorite local spots. This is a family‑run business in the truest sense. I've literally watched the owners' kids grow up working behind the counter. The menu has a great variety, prices are reasonable, and the food is consistently solid. It's an easy stop before heading to the beach or park, and just as good when you're starving after a day in the water. If you've never been, get the fish burrito. The Cajun seasoning and macnut pesto are dialed in every time. South Shore Grill is a neighborhood staple for a reason.

Does the grilled chicken sandwich have garlic or onion? Can't eat either.?

Both. To go without either it get pretty plain. Would have to go all dry, and no slaw, no topping. Honestly would be just chicken, salt pepper, lettuce tomato. Sorry

Then our server, Maka came with water and introduced himself . He asked if we wanted to switch tables because it was hot. He was very perceptive and he was able to change our table. We knew from that point we had an awesome server. During our time at Tikis, Maka thoroughly explained the menu to us and gave excellent food recommendations. He came by to check on us throughout our meal to see if everything was good and if we needed anything. We were appreciative of his kindness. The food was great! The coconut shrimp and kalua pork quesadillas were delicious. The guava ribs were fall off the bone good! Our table also ordered the coconut chicken and volcano wings. All the items were very tasty. We even received chicken taro, compliments from the chef, which made of feel real special. TIP: Go during Happy Hour to try samples of their appetizers at a good price! Not all hotel restaurants are created equal. Some rely on convenience and serve food that caters to guests who simply don't want to leave the property. Arden is the exact opposite--it's a restaurant people should seek out no matter where they're staying on Oahu. The vibe is relaxed, comfortable, and welcoming. They also offer a happy hour from 5-6 p.m. Our server, Christopher S., delivered a level of professionalism and hospitality that has become increasingly rare since COVID. He was knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely elevated the entire experience. My wife, son, and I started with the ʻulu hummus and tomato salad. As someone from California (my wife is from Oahu), I loved experiencing ingredients and flavor combinations that felt both unique and thoughtfully executed. For entrées, we ordered the oxtail, and the noodles served with it were exceptional--the texture was absolutely perfect. The "Return of the Mak" cocktail was another standout: creative, balanced, and flavorful without being overly sweet. I also enjoyed several glasses of wine from Austria, California, and France. The wine list offered a nice variety with thoughtfully chosen selections. My wife's favorite dish was the kanpachi (pictured), which was incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared. Even the kids' bolognese impressed us. It was clear the same level of care went into the children's menu as the rest of the dishes--something you don't often see. We finished with the island butter mochi, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The flavors were layered and complex, the texture was delicate and light, and the guava sorbet alongside it tied everything together perfectly. From the food and drinks to the service and atmosphere, Arden delivered an outstanding experience. A truly memorable meal--thank you to the entire team for a wonderful evening.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE FOAM! 4.8…read more You know that feeling when you have a song in your head and you can't stop thinking about it or humming it? Well, the Monkeypod Kitchen Mai Tai is that "song" for me. No matter how many months pass between trips to Hawaii, it's the one thing I'm always craving. First stop after our five plus hour flight is to always sit at the bar and hum my way through a Mai Tai. We've tried competitors' Mai Tais, but Monkeypod has THE BEST Mai Tai on the island (possibly the country)! It contains a double shot of rum, so pace yourself if you're a lightweight. What makes this extraordinary is the lilikoi (passion fruit) foam on the top. It's the reason I am "passion"ately in love with this cocktail. We've eaten at a table in their main dining room, however, we really enjoy bar seating during Happy Hour, which is from 3:30pm-5:00pm, daily (except select holidays) and again from 9:00pm-11:00pm. It is first come first serve at the bar. If you prefer table seating, be sure to make a reservation. The wait can be long without one. Their Happy Hour items include all of their appetizers at half price, excluding any seafood. Cocktails are $4 off, beers $2 off, wine by the glass $3 off and the pizzas (excluding the Bourgeois) are $17. All of the items we've tried are super delicious and the bartenders are all very friendly and professional. They also provide live music daily, at 12:30pm, 3:30pm and 7:30pm. Live music always adds such a refreshing and lively atmosphere, perfect for those vacationing vibes. Come for the sounds of the ocean waves, spectacular views, live music and of course, their fabulous Mai Tais. * Check their website for current Happy Hour menu items and pricing, as well as current live music times, as they may change periodically.

The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

The menu had been completely revamped and seemed to take on a more local influence while still being very upscale. Since we both enjoy "sampling" we shared two appetizer and a main. Everything was bursting with flavor! This is what we had: Starter salad from the seasonal menu of watermelon, strawberries, blueberries and greens served on a bed of yuzu infused goat cheese and drizzled with a shiso chimmichuri sauce. Yes, bursting with flavor! I would return for just this dish! Next shared was a tempura battered cauliflower served with a robust curry and yogurt reduction. Deeeelicious. I wouldn't say we licked the plate... but I won't deny it. Hahah. Finally shared the seafood in curry soup (think a lighter version of laksa) served with white rice on the side. Holy moly. No words to describe. Portions were generous enough to share still next time, I won't. That memorable you won't want to share. No longer serving volcano black rolls, tho absolutely serving amazingly wonderful dishes. Volcano black pancakes still available at breakfast. We kept on oooing and ahhhing and asking about the chef. Our servers Gale and Lily, who provided the most awesome service told us "Chef Lance" (as he is affectionately called) moved over from the Mariposa (Restaurant in Neiman Marcus) over a year ago. Further research revealed Chef Lance Kosaka has brought experience from noteworthy restaurants: Top of Waikiki, Merriman's, 53 By the Sea, and most recently Mariposa. I am hoping he will bring in a notable creme brulee that I loved at both the Top as well as Mariposa! Not wanting the deliciousness of Chef Steve's cooking to end, I also ordered a warabi salad to go for the next day. It was...just as wonderful as the other dishes we enjoyed. For $15, you get a fresh pineapple halfway hollowed out and filled with a delicious smoothie. While the smoothie itself isn't a huge portion, it was one of the best I've ever had. It was refreshing, perfectly whipped, incredibly flavorful, and exactly what you want on a warm Waikīkī day. The best part? The pineapple itself! It was perfectly ripe, sweet, and juicy. I took the leftover pineapple "cup" back to our Airbnb, cut it up, and ended up with plenty of delicious pineapple to enjoy the next day. It honestly felt like getting two treats in one. At $15, it may seem pricey at first, but I'd absolutely order it again because it was that good. My biggest recommendation: don't throw away the pineapple! Take it with you and salvage as much of the fruit as possible. Even your garbage will smell nice for days.

To our disappointment, the person taking the orders was not friendly and did not understand what I was asking. Asked to have the hot dogs extra charred which did not happen. I waited exceptionally long for order and a garlic fries. The wait was over 45 min but during this time, others who ordered after me were getting their meals. After asking, the ordered arrived. The hot dogs were not extra charred, actually not charred at all. The garlic fries were literally sitting in pool of oil which made them soggy and horrible. (no photo-too disgusting looking to post here) Very disappointed in the entire experience. Would have given a 0 but that is not possible. On a positive note, there was a girl who was doing all the menial work and was a very friendly and engaging worker - unlike the others. will not recommend.
