Breakfast with a view... Something that I always take for granted is the stunning new we have here in Hawai'i the blue ocean and clear skies...well not on this particular rainy day but along with that it was still such a beautiful place to take it all in. Many seem to do so as the line never seem to end though the pace of the service counter and kitchen seems to be at a decent pace which does give me time to scan over their massive menu with not just breakfast but some all day items available in the day as well is a great choice that I seem to have gravitated to and it was the fish and chips for me. Yes we're blessed to have fresh fish here on the islands and it was swordfish which I do love and decided to have that as it came with fries (regular or sweet potato) and tartar sauce though I do prefer ketchup on mine it came with two huge pieces that was very crispy and crunchy and with such generous portions I could only finish just a piece which is no problem as they have takeout boxes readily for you use is very nice and convenient along with condiment area for whatever you need. This very informal spot is nice since there are covered seating even the outdoor space has an umbrella so that you're not totally in the element and are able to enjoy this early morning view that the world comes here to take in as well along with fresh breakfast was the perfect pairing and see why many flock over to relax and enjoy like I did as well. Thank you!

See it off in the distance? I parked my car on Kalakaua Avenue and walked across the lawn...

Breakfast in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawai'i... When I told my sister that I was going to dine at Barefoot Beach Cafe - on the beach, she said, "Uhg... birds and flies"... and she's correct. That's why I don't really like outdoor dining. There are also feral cats and chickens in the 50th State. (Just a fact.) Air-conditioning is much appreciated in this humid environment. An enclosed space seems to have more cleanliness in general... and napkins won't fly away with the tradewinds... Plus, it was a drizzly day. We're lucky it didn't turn into a downpour. Well... the Aloha State is located in the Tropics... Anyway, Barefoot Beach Cafe does have a nice view... maybe it would be better on a sunnier day? This Cafe is an "order at the window, seat yourself, and help yourself to utensils" type of establishment. Service at the window was okay. Nothing extra nor memorable. We picked up our meals at the window on the left of the cashier's window and started taking photos. I got the Pineapple Smoothie because it was Instagram-worthy! Drinking a beverage out of a hollowed-out fruit seems so exotic! LOL! The Avocado Toast wasn't really toasted, and tasted "normal". Meh... I was starving, so I'm grateful for anything that I don't have to cook! I'm glad that we had a chance to visit this tourist spot. I don't think residents of Oahu would like it as much as a tourist... haha! Thanks to Irene and BunBun for being adventurous with Cony, Brown, and me!

Casual lunch spot but with a lot of options. Our group had some of their smoothies, pulled pork burger, breakfast burrito, quesadilla, fries, hot dog and sticky pudding. Everything that we tried was delicious. No complaints here. Menu will have something for everyone. Beautiful beach views on a clear day.

We were in town to hang with our son and his girlfriend in Honolulu. He's a Junior at University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and as most students never have enough food and always welcoming their parent(s) are in town to treat them to a meal beyond Poke, burritos or cup of soup! Today we were enjoying the beautiful Waikiki Beach sun and had plans to have lunch at a relatively "expensive" resturant over looking the beach a d surf. In fact, the hostess shared we could order from bar food a d therefore order drinks. However, when we started to place a food order we were told the kitchen was closed until 3:30 pm. Frustrated, we walked down the street to the Barefoot Cafe which was open at 2 pm when we arrived until 9 pm. I hopped in the order line while my wife, son and his girlfriend searched for a menu (they had a QR menu too). The setting is verr inviting beach seating, bright umbrellas and grand views of Waikiki iconic beach. The only "ding" I would share with future visitors is the line wait. There were about 18-20 people in line and it took 45 minutes before I reached the front of the line to make our order. Our cashier was Angel M. and server was Laiani. They and the other staff were very friendly, helpful and great sense of humor. We placed our orders (they listed items that were no longer on the beach menu which is a nice touch!) My wife ordered a BBQ chicken sandwich with sweet potatoes fries; our son ordered the grilled Ahi sandwich, sweet potato fries and a whole pineapple smoothie was a special dramatic treat for him!; his girlfriend ordered the garlic shrimp plate and a mangolada; i ordered the fish plate of the day which was an extremely fresh and delicious swordfish! Excellent! We were able to get a picnic table and umbrella to enjoy choices. We did have to "fight off" the very aggressive pigeons who attacked our son's fish sandwich while he got napkins and condiments for the table. Hearing about our unprovoked "pigeons poachers" attack, Laiani, our server graciously and kindly offer a replacement. Overall, our later February dining experience at the Barefoot Cafe was fun, yummy and full of Aloha! Thanks Angel, Laiani and the entire grill team!

Our hotel was at the east end of Waikiki Beach, and searching for nearby restaurants, I found one a short walk, on the ocean. The next morning, we walked along the Waikiki shore to Barefoot Beach Cafe, where we ordered breakfast. There was a line, but it moved smoothly. They have a lot of choices on the breakfast menu (served from 8 a.m.--2 p.m.). We both ordered the omelet and went for the omelet. I had Portuguese sausage and cheese, while my wife ordered the green pepper and ham. We found a seat right near the promenade, where we could look out and see the ocean (over a short planter-box/fence). After a few minutes, our order was ready at the pickup window. Both our omelettes were full of the add-ons, not skimpy like some we've had elsewhere. They were also served with red potato hash (more like thinly sliced potatoes, kind of like very skinny fries that were not deep-fried but pan-fried). We both also enjoyed fresh pineapple smoothies. We enjoyed the meal so much that we came back for lunch the following day. I enjoyed their Kalua pork quesadilla, while my wife had their (daily special) fish tacos. And... we came back one evening for a smoothie while listening to Hawaiian music after sunset (they have live music every night!). So, if you're seeking a tasty meal with fresh ingredients at reasonable prices without all the busy-ness of the Waikiki tourist spots, this is the place. We'll be back!

We've been coming back to barefoot beach cafe for years. Always busy but not too crowded. Great spot to grab lunch by the ocean.

Delicious Hidden Breakfast spot on Queens beach. Located between Walls and the waikiki aquarium. Parking is street parking or at the Honolulu zoo parking. We went here after the Petwalk at kapiolani park perfect breakfast spot and Dog Friendly eating on the outdoor tables. Gorgeous view of the beach and great beach vibes. We shared an Acai bowl, eggs Benedict and taco trio. They even serve Illy coffee delicious! Order and pay for your food then grab a spot to sit and wait for them to call your name. Service is so friendly and they do a great job at getting the food out efficiently. Perfect place for breakfast and lunch.

Great spot to stop in and recharge with a little lunch. Not too busy around 1 in the afternoon on a cloudy weekday. Lots of tables occupied, but the line wasn't too long and moved quickly. We shared an ahi poke bowl and a mangolada. Both were very pretty and tasty. Really appreciate that they have a whole vegan section to their menu. Lots to choose from all around with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and in between. Glad we stumbled upon them.

The overall ambiance is beautiful right by the water and hidden from the main stores on Waikiki. The overall food was good and was about $17. A water cup is 50 cents. The person who took our order wasn't very friendly and wouldn't accept cash even though there is a sign that says it's an extra 3% up charge for card. The reason was they didn't have the cash box on hand.

    Kelsey R.

This is located right by the park and you can't beat the view from this cafe right out on to the ocean. Sunset views while dining here are stunning. You walk up to the counter to order - they were extremely pleasant and quick. We had burgers they came out in about 10 minutes . Sweet potato fries could have been a bit more crispy . The birds do like to try to join you at the table but if you are looking for a beautiful low key easy going place with stunning views that is covered this is a great option !

LOVE LOVE LOVE!! The surf n turf is my favorite on island! It's hard to beat the ocean front tables and sunset view. They have great live music and I love the hula nights! Plus their pineapple smoothies are a fan favorite You order at the window and it's open seating.

This is a cute little spot by the beach. The fruit bowl was delicious. The breakfast burritos had no flavor. Quite disappointed.

Three of us got the Iron Man Sandwich (only one of three got "spicy" and it was apparently not super spicy, so spice wimps like me could probably handle it), and my mother got the cheeseburger. The three of us with the Iron Man liked ours, but my Mom wasn't impressed with her burger. My husband also got a banana and peanut butter smoothie (the "nutty banana"), and my parents got the Nutella chocolate milks, and everyone was pretty happy with their drinks! The location itself is pretty cute and small, and appears to be operated solo by the lady we assumed to be the owner and eponymous "Blondie." She was really friendly and helpful while we were trying to decide what we all wanted (we can be a slightly indecisive bunch). I thought the wall of little index cards illustrated by various patrons showing where they were from was a really nice touch! We chose to sit indoors, since outdoor tables that would take four were occupied, but it might be noisy out there with the proximity to the main road. Inside the music can be a little loud, too, but the lady behind the counter turned it down some for us, which was kind of her to offer. Overall a decent little vegan sandwich shop with a great smoothie and drink selection! I think if my husband and I are about town on our own on our next visit to the islands, we might stop by again, but my parents will probably opt for other things given that my mother never gets beyond a first impression. Definitely worth trying if you're looking for a nice vegan meal and beverages!

Barbers (Smoked beets, spinach, avocado, soy strip, asparagus, rice crackers, seaweed pearls, spicy aioli, suspense) was intriguing as a little game of sushi roulette (hence the final ingredient). Whoever gets the spicy piece also gets the accompanying shot of sake. I was grateful my husband ended up getting that one because it was hot for him which means it would have been very hot for me. My only complaint with either of these specialty rolls is that each piece was quite large and therefor difficult to eat. I had to do the unconscionable thing and nibble away at it to comfortably eat it without it feeling like a choking hazard. Futo maki roll (Age tofu, spinach, shiitake, kanpyo, inari, pickled radish) was no less delicious for its simplicity. Quality was excellent, and everything on the menu sounded like something we wanted to try. We were so impressed by our meal we almost returned the following (our last) night. Lucky for us they have a restaurant in LA which I intend to visit next time I'm in town which is far more frequently than I'm in Honolulu. But would I consider flying to Oahu again for Tane Izakaya? Yes, yes I would.

Pop-up Plant-based vendor at Fishcake in Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. When Irene told me that she got "in" for this month's Honobono pop-up, I was excited and curious. Via Instagram, customers sign-up for the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. They will message you for pickup time if you're selected. You may takeout or dine-in. The menu for 9-22-24 was a Bento and the dessert was a matcha flight - a scoop of ice cream, warabi mochi, and a regular mochi. Everything looked too beautiful to eat! We watched the workers assemble the bentos and matcha dessert flights. So much concentration and effort is put into each item! I was able to order one of the limited Kahi drinks. It's made with amazake, Yuzu purée, unsweetened yuzu soda, and matcha from Japan. The combination sounds odd, but tasted great! There were bits of yuzu with rind on the bottom of the cup. The citrus flavor was refreshing! This experience makes me want to sign up for the next event - October 13! I wonder what the menu will be...

Their mission is to share their products with people who want a fun, delicious, and easy way to incorporate plant based food into their lives, and they always try to buy from local farmers and shops. This month of November they are serving a very satisfying HONOKEEMA curry set using HONOBONO original gluten-free koji curry paste made with five kinds of spices, fruits, vegetables, and koji; simmered with mushrooms, onions, tomato, konbuk kelp, and shiitake mushrooms. Amazingly the curry is topped with a very believable HONOBONO vegan egg yolk. The curry set is paired with a mini soup and salad of the day and a small bite of mochi. We also got the Imo Frappe - a plant-based version of Starbucks sweet potato Frappuccino and the Aki- amazake with raspberry purée, unsweetened strawberry, sparkling soda with premium uji matcha from Japan. Watch HONOBONO's IG for news of upcoming pop-ups and message them for reservations. Chef and owner Himi is the sweetest and the meals are unique and delicious. The pop up is cute and casual. You'll want to make HONOBONO a repeat experience.

The…read morevariety is incredible -- sandwiches, wraps, noodles, smoothies, plates, soups, and specialty drinks. One of my longtime favorites is their Yuzu Lemonade, but I think the new Aloha Energy Drink may have officially taken the top spot. It has medical-grade beet powder, natural caffeine from guarana, ginseng, and maca -- and you genuinely feel the aloha and the power. Today I ordered the spicy Yakisoba, and the noodles had the perfect bite and mouthfeel. The salad was fresh and crisp, and while I personally could handle quite a bit more spice, I appreciate that they balance the heat so it's enjoyable and approachable for everyone without overpowering the dish. Beyond the food, the atmosphere is always welcoming. The chef is consistently friendly, the staff is kind, and the restaurant is always clean. It's such a great feeling being able to eat somewhere with confidence knowing they're using fresh, clean ingredients. Highly recommend SYOY! Deb B

She tried to pretend that she didn't know what happened. Hello, I was there watching what happened the whole time!!! No sorry, "just please wait...." I had to wait another 20-30 minutes for my food to be made. I asked them what happened and the owner or manager just said "we made a mistake...." Smh!! They should have given me something for compensation... The other time I went there over a year ago a different cashier lady forgot something in my order and I had to go back and get my missing item... smh!!! The time before that a cashier didn't know how to do basic math and gave me back my change when I gave her change so I could get a dollar bill back...... smh!!!! I don't know why they keep making mistakes or can't do simple things when I go there. I'm very patient and easy going on person, but I won't be going back for a while.... So sad cuz, I really like their food and they are nice people.

We ordered banh mi, rice noodle w bbq pork and spring roll, and banh bao. The food came out really fast and was beautiful and delicious. The vermicelli was the best - I could eat that every day. We were both stuffed when we left. We took the bus so I'm not sure about parking. The dining room is modest with just a few tables, nothing fancy. Those are usually the best places anyway.

You got plenty to choose from even with picky eaters so you're going to find something for everyone here IMO. We opted for the pho noodle soup and the dry hu tieu which is like a noodle dish with side soup. Flavors were amazing and were only enhanced with their house made lemongrass oil which you can self serve. The place is a bit small but we were lucky to get seated immediately on a Friday lunch. Would love to come back here over and over on my trip, but may have to make decisions since there's so much food to try! The restaurant is a peaceful serene like place and has that Chinatown like theme, showing maybe the age of the place so don't expect modern classy vibes. Also there may be a bit of a language barrier so if you can speak even a little Vietnamese, maybe try pulling it out. Otherwise, just point to the dish on the menu to order! They do accept card here btw. Parking is Chinatown so try the municipal lots for cheapest option, street parking is also possible.

We tried the kouign amann with the toppings she mentioned as vegan (the butter one is not), and they were pretty good, especially with the cinnamon topping! The young lady at the counter was very helpful and patiently pointed out which things were vegan to us, which I really appreciate. The kouign amann seems like a popular item as we bought the last of them (we had wanted four, but there were only three) and it was still early afternoon. There is a parking garage nearby that allowed for long enough free parking for us to go order and grab our goodies to go. The location itself doesn't have a lot of seating space, so it seems best set up for takeout, but it is a pleasantly bright space and the outdoor seating seems like it would be nice as they're not on a main throughfare. It's far from where my family lives on the island that we stay with when we're visiting, but next time we're near Ala Moana around lunchtime, we'll definitely stop by for some vegan goodies!

It's in a pretty random area along kamakee street. Easily walkable from South Shore Marketplace if you can't find closer parking. It is decorated very cutely with string lights and fairy lights on the tree which surround their outdoor seating area. They also have indoor seating if you prefer. The brick pizza oven is outside. The caesar salad was great, a little heavy on the dressing but definitely tastes like a normal good caesar salad even though it's vegan! The white pizza with the ricotta was amazing and pro tip would be to add the mushrooms. It was my favorite of the 2 pizzas we ordered. We also tried the Brooklyn which has vegan meatball, tomato sauce, basil and again, the ricotta. Yum! The vegan meat easily disguises itself as real sausage. The ricotta is so good on my walk back to the parking I heavily considered researching if it's possible to buy a similar vegan ricotta just from the store. The crust is also top notch which strongly contributes to the quality of the pizza. Pricing is reasonable and service was great. Overall it's a place with a very chill vibe to enjoy good pizza- whether or not you're vegan.
