Tried the ahi katsu plate and it was very good, everything was really high quality. The ahi was…read morecooked well; nice and crispy on the outside but still moist on the inside. I liked the sweet teriyaki sauce on it making it a lot lighter than the typical mayo based sauces and unagi sauce. The sides were very impressive, taking this plate to the next level. The tossed salad was amazing and not something just out of a bag. Mixed greens with shredded apple, carrots, and sweet cherry tomatoes and an Italian vinaigrette. The Mac salad was different with bits of olive in there but they weren't overpowering. Rice was cooked perfectly and topped with furikake. The guy running the truck was very friendly and the food came out quick.

All I can say is that this Plate was epic in each and every way. The Korean Fried Chicken was Super Crispy and Tasty. The Ahi Poke was Ono and those Kalbi Fries..Amazing!!! Those Crispy Crinkle Fries topped with Shreds of Kalbi were a match made in Heaven. Those Crinkle Fries really stole the show. I absolutely love Crispy Crinkle Fries when they are cooked perfectly. And of course I had to have Mac Salad with this Plate. There's a reason why Flyin' Ahi Lunch Wagon has a following. Not only is their Menu amazing but the Local Braddah taking your order is one of the nicest guys around . No matter how busy they get this guy's service and attitude is top notch. He's also very accommodating when it comes to making the Plate Lunch to your own specifications and to me that says a lot. This Plate was nothing short of spectacular and if you are in the Mililani Tech Park Area for Lunch you definitely have to check this place out. -- at Flyin' Ahi.

One of them suggested Lacoy's and since I had read about them through the page, I also wanted to go too! They open at 11:30 and you can drive through this gate, when it's open, into the parking lot. My crazy @$$, drove along the side of the building and went to where they were. The owner, Shawna, told us we needed to wait in the parking lot. LOL! When she said they were ready, we ordered the shrimp and the bbq chicken. Since it was Wednesday, we got the special which came with all the sides. The chicken was sooooooo tender! The shrimp were nice and crispy! Loved the mac n cheese and those greens with the bacon... Soooooooo good! Nice butter corn and cornbread! Oh, and we got lumpia too...and you need to go early or they will be sold out! Shawna also gave a sample of the shrimp and catfish while we were waiting. That was really nice of her. This is one of those not so hidden gems worth driving to! If you're on your way to the North Shore, make a stop and grab some lunch! You won't be disappointed! Mahalo Lacoy's!

My FAVORITE place to get Hawaiian food on the Big Island of Hawai'i, is a little food truck called…read more"Ono Hawaiian Food". They are located in the parking lot across the downtown shopping district of Hilo (in the park down from the KTA store and almost across Sig Zane). Look for the blue tarp with the 8 seats around a plastic folding table. The blue tarp is the give away when looking for it. It's run by Hawaiians, so you know the food is ONO (delicious). LUAU SQUID - My absolute favorite is the luau squid! It's made with fresh taro leafs stewed for along time with coconut milk and cut octopus. BOMBSHADIGGIDY ONOLICOUS!!! It taste just like the old days where grandma used to use the freshest ingredients to make the family favorites during dinner. A great portion (2 cups) served hot and steaming. You can get this with either poi or rice (get the poi!!!). $7.50 for the combination. Grade: A+ PORK LAULAU - super authentic laulau (taro leafs) steamed with fatty pork, salted fish. Wrapped in taro leafs and steamed for hours. Everything melts together because of the steaming. (Side order $4.00). Eat this with the poi and you have an authentic meal and tons of memories to talk about! Super ONO!. Grade: A! KULOLO - a dessert made of freshly grated taro root, coconut milk, and shreaded coconut. The consistency comes out like a sticky pudding / mochi. Not many places can make this old-time dish anymore. Found it here at the Ono Hawaiian Food Truck and glad I ordered it. You get a 4 x 6 slice of the dessert for $4.50. Well below market value (I've purchased this for double the price at other places). Grade: B+

Epic Ultra Rare Spawn---MRC(Monthly Return Chance)=50%…read more The Best Food Truck 2k19 hands down. Kapakahi Grindz is an elusive but legendary food truck that sporadically spawns in various parts of the island. Led by 2 extremely talented gals, they've created an ambitious and exquisite menu of memorable plates that transcends the competition. I've been fortunate enough to track them down several times this year with the help of their Instagram, and their most prominent location has been snuggled in the sleepy village of Whitmore, in the heart of Wahiawa. There's just something special about this place. All of their dishes have been on point. Some of their illustrious local themed creations have been the Pastele Stew Nachos, Dynamite Katsu, Ahi Cakes, Fried Tako, Stuffed Crab Rolls, Gandule Rice, Smoked Meats, and Hawaiian Plates. So, sure, most of what I've just mentioned you can find closer, cheaper, and maybe even better. What makes this place special then? Value and Service for one. These plates are more than enough to satisfy the thick and hearty. Portions are generous and well worth the price in the $7-10 range. Every trip was accompanied with a very welcoming and friendly smile from the owners. When you've had a lonnng day and hangry, it helps. I feel special. Every plate was presented nice and neat, they don't just slop your food into the boxed plate. Attention to detail. Every scoop and bite of their food taste and feels hand crafted as though cooked to order and carefully extrapolated versus just being transfered from a pool of soggy neglected food sitting a long time in a warmer. I believe they really care what and how they put things out. You can sense it. This is what sets them apart. Its the secret ingredient, Aloha or Love. They do cater. I ordered a pan of their Gandule Rice and Pastele Stew as part of thier Thanksgiving Special. These gals know their stuff. Best Rice and Stew on the isle. There was something about the rice I've noticed. The consistency and texture of it, a harmonious balance of sticky and wet. A scoop of it revealed sticky globule like rice bomb clusters which was infused with so much of that lovable Gandule flavor. I can't help but think if it was intended, but I was totally into it because it reminded me of these rice treats my grandma used to make. Couple that with strings of shredded pork and you have yourself a winner! This whole pan was a shimmering trove of delight! I've had Pastele Stew from numerous locations, ranging from bad to good. I've found that other places versions are too watery (hey man I thought this was a stew?), not enough pork or tattered pieces(are these leftovers auntie?), sliced olives (skimpy and break apart and get mushy, are they canned bro?), or just lacking that chorusful and colorful blend of aunthenthicc medley of flavor. The pork pieces are thicc and chunky. Succulent morsels of meat drowning in a red sea of love. The olives are left as whole, juicy orbs, that burst into fresh flavors. They've taken note and have the proper buoyancy and firmness to dance and entertain your mouth. Lastly, the overall flavor of the stew is higlighted by the perfect amount of tomato-eey goodness(this is where many have tried and many have failed). AKA the right amount of Love. This is why they are on a whole different ascended like level! Mahalo and much Aloha, Kapakahi Grindz, for the delicious memories!
