It was ok. We had patele stew, Pateles and empanadas. It was good but not great. I'm surprised by the great reviews. I didn't like the bacalao salad. I would go back only if there were no other option. read more

Eh, da buggah is ONO! Scarfed down Wat Get's "Ultimate Patele Plate"---a sizable pastele on a bed of tasty gandule rice, and bathed in a matuda (pastele stew) with a generous amount of cubed pork; with a small mac and bacalao salad. Sorry gang. I get "aftah" pic only. I was HUNGRY. Go try 'em. read more

Wat Get Kitchen - My endorsement of the "Ultimate Patele Plate" - Puerto Rican Near Me - Waipahu, Hawaii

Wow. I cannot believe how this lady spoke to me just now!!! So, from 11:00 or so I tried calling my order in. Like a normal person who doesn't like to wait. I figured Saturday mornings must be busy since my call went unanswered. About 15 mins later, I called again. Phone just kept ringing... ok, maybe they're busy. No problem! My wife and I drove to Wat Get and parked in one of their open stalls. Since so much time went by, we decided to take one last glance at the menu to make sure I knew exactly what I'd order by the time I get to the window. Older lady was just sitting down and saw us there. Stared at us with a stink face too. Obviously, we had planned to order something since 1) we were parked in their stall, and 2) because I'm now standing right in front of her face. Well, she didn't greet me. I stood there and I SAID "HI!" But she stared at me then the phone rings and she takes this long order. Ok, no problem. For me, it's fine. I'm off today and I'm patient AND I have no where to rush to... so I continue to stand there as if I was invisible!!! Finally after a solid 2 mins (or more) this lady decides to acknowledge me. Absolutely NO FRIENDLY FACE, "HELLO" OR ANYTHING!!! She says, "you picking up?" I said, "no ma'am, gonna order now." She tells me in a firm voice, "come back in 10 minutes if you want something. I just got a really large order. You should've called." I said very patiently STILL, "I called twice, but no one answered, so..." Then--- This frickn lady had the NERVE to straight up tell me, AND I AM NOT EXAGGERATING AT ALL: "WELL IF I DIDNT ANSWER, THAT MUST MEAN IM BUSY IN THE FRONT HERE, RIGHT? SO COME BACK!" Wait----- WTF DID I JUST HEAR? I was floored. I have NEVER been spoken to like that in all of my years of dining out. NEVER!!!!!!!!!! I could not believe how obnoxious and RUDE she was to me! I have been grabbing food from Wat Get for at LEAST 15 years! I would post all the time on my social media AND tell everyone who wanted bomb food to try this place because I always supported this local run establishment. The male owner ALWAYS took care of me and was nice and friendly--- everything you want in an owner to support and give your money to when you have extra to spare to dine out. Welp I can 100% say with every ounce of surety-- I WILL NEVER EVER COME BACK HERE AND I WILL MAKE SURE EVERYONE I SPOKE TO ABOUT WAT GET KNOWS HOW THIS LADY TREATED ME. Unbelievable!!!!!!!! And the best part. After I she basically yelled at me, a stranger there supporting her business, she has the frickn nerve to continue ranting on "ya, you should've tried calling again. Now you gotta wait. And you don't wanna wait, then come back another time." Are you effing kidding me? Wowwww.... I told her, "forget it" and I left. I honestly didn't even know what to say, and I'm not about to disrespect this old lady by herself, but I cannot imagine what someone else might have said or done with her speaking like that. UNREAL!!!! 5 stars down to ZERO. Thanks a lot lady. read more

Stopped by today to pick up some frozen pasteles and gandule rice. Wanted my brother and sister in law to try it before they headed back home to CA. The owner is so pleasant and remembered me from a couple weeks back. I appreciate when they take their time to get to know their customers. I always try to frequent these types of local establishments rather than the corporates. The frozen pasteles can be purchased in 6 packs. I also picked up a 32oz box of gandule rice. The frozen pasteles have to be steamed for about a hour and then sit out for 15 min before eating. Will enjoy these for dinner tomorrow night. read more

Been couple times when we out Waipahu. Little lot, but we've always found a space to just grab our take out. The Pastele Stew is more like a Soup. It's ono, but I am not sure if that would be considered authentic. So if looking for traditional Pastele Stew, may be disappointed. If looking for just yummy Pork Soup, go get um. Pasteles ono. I'm not a Gandule Rice fan so I'm probably not a good judge, but I thought it tasted pretty good. Can't go wrong with fried balls of yumminess either. I like the savory but was still cold in the middle...I still grind um but think better if was hot all the way through. Hubs got the guava cream cheese and like a kid, happily ended up with sugar on his face and in his lap...and all over the car. read more

Wat Get Kitchen - Ordered the Patele, Gandule rice and Bacalao salad for $12.75 X 2 for my love and i.. - Puerto Rican Near Me - Waipahu, Hawaii

I grew up in Waipahu and I've never visited this restaurant until now. They have been around for 11 years! I actually didn't know this place existed until now. Authentic and sooooooooo delicious!!!! Since I've found this place existed, I've been back at least once a month and I live in town! This is one of the few places I'll travel from town into waipahu for. LOCATION: it's a little hidden.... it's on Hikimoe Street which runs parallel to Farrington Highway and crises waipahu depot road. A few steps from jack in the box and the big bus stop area. COST: reasonable. It's not cheap, but for home cooked goodness, it's worth it. SERVICE: family owned, and the owners are so sweet. It's like eating at uncle and aunty's place. It's a takeout counter, not any place to sit down and eat and I seen them preparing a lot of phone ordered food as well. FOOD: I'm pretty sure it's authentic... either way it's really good. The pastele stew is delicious, my nails nephew loves it and he's really picky. I'm not gonna go into details about the name and the ingredients because I have no idea what I'm talking about, however, everyone I brought here enjoyed their cooking. PARKING: small parking lot in front.. they share with the other businesses and since this place is pick up and take out, there's always spots when I come. I'll be back again next month when I'm in waipahu for training..... I can't wait! read more

One of the biggest challenges when you are a cash only operation is that your customers need to ensure that they have sufficient funds in order to complete their order. With that being said I had just gone in to pick up an order and realized that I did not have enough money in my wallet. I had ordered a pastele stew bowl which was $16 and an empanada which was another six dollars. Unfortunately at the time of entering the store, I only had a $20 bill which was not going to cover all of the order. Upon telling the server of my dilemma, her response was a very sarcastic statement. she said, "but it's made already!" and I also got a very nasty look from her! I proceeded to tell her that I only had this much cash in my wallet and asked her if she wanted me to come back with money to pay for it. She told me if you like. And walked away I went into my car and was able to find some extra money in order to pay for the item. I promptly went back into the store paid for the item and left. However, this is not a way to run a cash business and then blame a customer because they have insufficient funds and there are no other resources in which to purchase the food item because they are made to order. There's nothing stated on their yelp page or on their signs that items are made to order not was it stated by the gentleman that took my order. I would advise the store owner to update their information in order for customers to be treated fairly and respectfully and so that the business not be penalized if people do not have sufficient funds and potentially order items that are outside the costs for which they are able to pay for. I do understand that customers share an equal responsibility when placing their order. But a big part of a restaurant success is the level of customer service and the tone in which that service is delivered when speaking to customers coming in that may have made a mistake. Hopefully this is a lesson learned for both you and your staff as well as for other customers choosing to purchase goods from your location. read more

A small operation that has always offered takeout only--so Covid hasn't affected their business much. It's been a minute since I've had a pastele and I've definitely eaten some dried out ones in my day. However, Wat Get's is far from that--so moist, soft, and bursting with wild delicious flavors. Apparently, they add potatoes in their masa, giving it a different color versus other types of Pastele's that use pure green bananas. Whatever they do, they're doing it up pretty good to me. Complementing and completing the dish is their gandule rice--yum. I swear I would eat the rice all on its own, but eating it all together makes it a lovely satisfying meal. Come by to Waipahu and taste for yourself! Enjoy! Xoxo read more

I wish to eat the pastele everyday. The salad is also perfect. my mom Susan loves the place.

Why the hell did it take me so long to try this place!!! Ammmaazzingggg!!! The pasteles are so soft and moist and the pastele stew omg... most times I order pastele stew there's barely any meat, that is def not the case here. They really know what they're doing. I had the ultimate and it came with everything!! Mac salad, green salad, pastele, pastele stew and gandule rice..... Tastebud party I also ordered a bowl of pastele stew and it was delicious and very filling I ate like a third and was full my fiancé finished the rest. Service was excellent and quick they make the plate right there in front of you . They had this cute grater chandelier I really appreciated cause it showed the passion and authenticity of the owners. This place is a must try. I will be back!! read more

Food and service great, pasteles outstanding and tasty, gandule rice so delicious, love Puerto Rican food

I randomly came here with my friend because she was craving Puerto Rican patelles. This is located near autozone and near several care homes. This was a very quick place to grab food. Since most dishes are already heated up and ready to go. The panadillas were made fresh though. They just took about 5 minutes or so. So they have a simple menu. I ordered the pika bowl #1, which included 2 scoops of rice and a scoop of delicious petelle beef stew. It was oily goodness. This would have been perfect for a cold chilly day in Hawaii! Or taken home to sit in the cold AC and snuggle up to watch movies. Amazing. I really liked the panadilla pastries! They were delicious. read more

Great food and better service. The panadilla is really good. I haven't had one this good since I was a small kid. I usually get the ultimate plate because it has everything minus the panadilla. Husband wanted pasteles and I am not into them so didn't know where is good. Gave this place a try. First, it's cash only despite this listing saying credit cards accepted. So I drove to Times which was right across the street to get cash back. I didn't wanna leave my car and walk cuz there's small kind sketch factor around there. Once I got my cash I asked for 2 spicy pasteles. They only have one kind and the whole pepper is placed inside so you can decide to eat it or not. My hubby was scared to eat the pepper cuz it's really red and looks hot. But after he tried it, he said it wasn't hot at all. It would have been better if it was incorporated in the filling instead, but I understand why they do that. He ended up putting a lot of hot sauce from our kitchen in it. There was 1 whole black olive in it. Idk what the standard amount should be. There is no indoor seating. It's basically a walk up window which is fine as I was picking up only. We got only pastele no sides. It also was in tin foil and not corn husk or whatever leaf they come in. In summary, he said it wasn't the best ever but decent. The size is big, 3 or 4 fingers at $5.50 each or so. read more

My rating is this only because there was no communication by the owners that they were closed down (for now? for good? It wasn't stated? ) Not sure if this business closed down for good? I tried to place an order on the phone, on Monday, June 6, 2022, but the line was busy and/or nobody was picking up? I even tried website/online (which was still up and running)... nothing ‍ So I decided to take a drive to the restaurant in Waipahu to place an order instead. I just thought they were too busy to answer the phone because it was at the lunch hour peak! I've tasted a few of their popular dishes before and they were delicious! I really Hope they return! They had really good Onolicious food and excellent service! read more

This place is kind of a hole in the wall in Waipahu kind of by times. I, along with the other townies I came with, felt a bit out of place. The food was delicious though. I've only had frozen pasteles, and the ones at Yamas and from trucks on the Windward side, but this was my first time trying it from a Puerto Rican place, which in general are hard to find on island, especially in town. I had the plate with a pastele/patele, bacalao salad, and gandules rice. The patele was more flavorful than I've had, and was very porky, juicy, and kind of spicy. It had olives in it, and went well with the rice. The mac salad was also noticeably good. Like a lot of local food, this was a very carb heavy, kind of greasy, and flavorful meal that left me wanting to drive back into town and nap (but instead I went to the plantation village and saw some of the plants I ate here). I also had a patele stew pandesilla (spelling?) that was also very heavy, but very tasty--crispy and juicy. Pretty cheap but maybe a tad more expensive than other places by here, but large portions and filling. Worth a try if you want local Puerto Rican food. read more

Wat Get Kitchen - Puerto Rican Near Me - Waipahu, Hawaii

Yelp never disappoints, especially with this place. I came here after looking at Yelp reviews for a take out place to eat, since hubby's working overtime. It's behind Waipahu Times supermarket, located within two ghetto looking buildings with ample parking. They have a huge sign outside their place that says "pateles" and their location is small, but the burnt orange color will show you the way to the entrance. It's a small take out counter where you order your food with no seating, although I seen some stools with a small counter outside their place. The lady there was super nice and friendly. I ordered the ultimate plate, because I wanted to try all the items. The patele is huge, and the patele stew that covered it was dang tasty. The salad greens was tangy with grated fish on top of it, personally I ate all of it before I tackled that huge patele. The mac salad is ok, it tastes different, like there was cumin in it, but it was better than some places I've had mac salad at. I also tried the sweet anadillas. So me being the piggy I am and not able to wait till I got home, I ate one waiting at the stoplight. It was good, like guava and cream cheese dripped on my shirt good. It had a lot of filling so most of it went into my mouth, thank goodness, although I made a mess of sugar and filling and everything nice all over my shirt. Hubby got J at my pic of my ultimate plate I texted him so I definitely will be back there. Great place to pick up dinner when you don't wanna cook. read more

Great food and service! Panadeja is alway made fresh when you order and so delicious.

Wow the amount of food you get here is crazy! I got the ultimate plate ....with pastele, gandule rice, and Mac salad topped with pastele stew and it was so heavy I thought the bag would break!! You also have an option to get bacalau salad but I passed in favor of more rice. The rice, pastele and stew topping were all good. There was no wait time because everything was already made and I would definitely come here again. There's major road construction going on so you have to go around the block, in order to use a credit card your purchase must be over $15, and they only have 2 reserved stalls but it's in a lot so u can park anywhere open I'm assuming. It's basically a take out place so don't come expecting to dine in. Enjoy! read more

Always loved to order from here, but no more....I called and tried to substitute the bacalao salad, NO substitutions...okay, the website says mac + bacalao salad, does that not mean both? I've always heard my wife rant about how good this place was and that it was always worth the drive. Well, that day came today to try it. Before going, we attempted to call twice hoping they would pick up but had zero luck. We finally arrived and luckily there was parking! Anyway, we get out and the lady inside did not greet us whatsoever, instead she decided to answer the phone surprisingly. After the phone call, she proceeded to tell us that she was busy and that we should have called first. When we mentioned we did, she rudely said I'm busy come back later in 10 minutes. Sorry, customer service is horrible. Regardless if you are busy, working alone, or are having a tough time, just a little acknowledgement would have gone a LONNNNGGG way for me. A simple, I'm sorry, you're food may take a little longer, is that okay, would have been just fine. Needless to say, today was an epic fail with A HORRIBLE ATTITUDE from the owner working today. Five solid stars! Oh my gosh. Words cannot express how much I love the food at Wat Get. This place is where I first tasted Puerto Rican food! Per two of my best foodie friends' recommendations, I ordered the ULTIMATE PATELE PLATE with double bacalao salad, which is a little bit of everything on the menu. Two scoops of gandule rice, patele topped with patele stew with that bacalao salad. The plate was so hearty and flavorful, easily two servings. I tried some empanadillas filled with guava jelly and cream cheese. Also very delicious! As if the amazing food wasn't enough, my friends and I felt welcome and at home as we were ordering our food. Words fail badly, so you just have to come to this hidden gem! Wat Get is CLOSED SUNDAYS though! They finally take credit and debit cards now! read more

What seems to be a hole in the wall place is actually a hidden gem located at Waipahu transit center. I had the local grown special that includes pretty much everything except the salad. I had my eggs over easy style which is perfect with tye gandule rice, pastele and the pastele stew topping. Everything is well seasoned and for a non-Puerto Rican guy like me, everything is packed with flavor and you could tell it is meticulously made with quality ingredients. Price might seem high but tgey do give generous portions and also please consider this is a small business that has to deal with ever increasing production cost. Also the owner/cook provides good service and a kind person, I was a dollar short because I forgot that they accept cash only and did not take into account about tax. I had another 20 dollar bill which he did not want to break just to get the dollar. He is kind enough to tell me just to give him the dollar next time I come back but I did find some quarters in my car which I ended up giving to him. All in all I believe this unassuming place offer quality food and good service, hope you guys give it a try. read more

Great down to the root puertorican food! Flavor is on point! Service is great very friendly and welcoming!

It's taken me weeks to get here and the Yelp map was not helpful but after several turn arounds and a call Lien finally got us to this Pastele heaven! It is behind Times not in the strip mall the map will direct you to. Not many choices, none the less we came for the Pastele and Gandules rice so the Ultimate is what we ordered. This comes with the bacalao or macaroni salad. As we walked up to the counter, just inside the door, a very handsome man handed us a small taster cup of Gandules rice. If I wasn't already going to order it I would have changed my mind right then but it only solidified my decision. The Ultimate times two was ordered for the two of us. It is a bed of Gandules rice, a very fat Pastelle on top then covered with the Pastele stew and the salad on the side. Very colorful! One of those beautiful plates that was even more beautiful in my mouth. OMG good. Stop talking I'm eating good. The owner is Cory. He is the great guy handing out the samples and putting the plates together. I have to come back next week to try the panadillas, one filled with the stew, and they even have a desert variation. There is parking in the front. It's just a store front and no seating inside. A small stainless steel counter and metal chairs attached to the front of the building for those, like us, who want it eat now and not later. The owner came out to see how we liked our lunch which was thoughtful. Clean, friendly and CASH ONLY, read more
