Happy 1st week of August! Until next time Scoopers, ( with a sad face) I can't wait for my next Scoopers Kitchen fix/visit. The only chance I can visit Scoopers is during the Summer, intercessions, or unless I try to plan my visits around Dr. appointments, so I can take off. hehe. Owner Chimienti is super nice and so hardworking, she does it all by herself, phone calls, cashier, packing foods, everything no help. Please be patient, sometimes when I call I won't get through to get my orders in, but if no answer I will try again later. Keep in mind she sells quick, during this recent visit I called about 9:30 and she said she is already all sold out! She has all different daily specials and my favorites are Thursdays when I do get my orders in it will be Thursdays. I also pick up/treat my siblings so I grab them a place too. They love it just as much, as my family loves the Scoopers plate. What a treat, my favorites are the roast turkey and mushroom chicken. If I can make it out on a Friday that's my next favorite day for the specials. OMG, eating roast turkey just takes me back to school days, the only reason I look forward was the roast turkey lunch, hehe. Also when I don't have to wait for Thanksgiving to have my turkey. The turkey plate comes with stuffing too. The portion are huge and it is for dinner & lunch the next day. I also save/freeze the turkey to make jook/congee the next week. I love the salad options and salad dressing too, Thousand Island & French- super good, they are home-made. Love the mac salad, ( one of the best I had and the bonus piece of brownie. & to sum Scoopers up I say - Wow, OMG- huge portions, affordable, ono grinds, a hidden Gem for cheap eats in Waipahu. We went to Scoopers Kitchen to pick up some lunch today. We knew we had to get there early because they're so popular they run out by early afternoon. Known for their lunch wagon, delicious food, and generous portions. The main kitchen is on Leokane St. Take out only. Today we ordered the Shoyu Chicken and the Laulau with Kalua Pig and Cabbage (which came with Haupia and a Brownie and a drink). Everything was soo delicious . Overjoyed. Third time is a charm. First time we came they were sold out. Second time we came by they were closed but today we ordered 2 laulau mini plates which came with a square of haupia in a muffin liner firm but with an after taste. Came with a free brownie. Perhaps being piled on one another in foil with the haupia made the brownie mushy/gucky, shucks. Chose tossed salad with ranch. Veggies were fresh but dressing was somehow tasteless. No drinks ordered although asked. Chimere shared that 80% of her customers phone in their orders. Amazing when asked what time do they open I was told little after 2 a.m. Just her smile alone rated a 5 stars. Compounded with haupia and a free brownie - instant happiness on a Friday to begin the weekend. Chimere is a superstar by handling so many things at once! I would freak out as she does the phone order taking the info at the same time she is preparing the plate lunches for the customer in front of her! It is just a one-person operation! Thursdays and Fridays she gets smashed with business. Thursdays due to the roast turkey that runs out FAST! Stuffing available for $1 more... she does not provide any cranberry sauce (since my friend asked me if that was included with the stuffing). Prices do increase $1 on all the plates effective this coming Monday, October 6th while drinks all increase 50 cents to $1.50. Though I was there at 8:37am (she officially opens at 9am), i really took the last parking stall available (how thankful is that and right in front of the window). If you're not here by 10:30am you're not going to be able to choose what you want. You best get here by the time they open. With that I cannot fairly give them a five star rating no matter that I support mom and pops local restaurants and hike in the walls. When you stand in line for 10 minutes and the only choices they have is beef curry and bbq beef after an hour and a half of being open it's safe to say that they have a small operation and that the way only make enough food to stick their Lunchwagon and enough to serve at their brick and mortar for an hour and a half. If the demand is that high then they should consider making more food or at least warning prospective customers like myself not to waste my time if I don't get there before 9:30am. I don't care how good the food is or how great the prices are. If you can't provide that info to prospective customers, then you should. First location is an industrial area in Waipahu with limited hours. If you don't have GPS, look for the yellow sign in the curve. Then after, go buy a phone with GPS. Second they are on a dead end street which is good because you may have to double park but it's not a long wait once you order your food. Menu is limited to local grindz. Love that there are 4 options of plate lunch to choose from...Mix Plate (2 choices of entree, 2 scoops rice and 1 side); Regular Plate (1 choice of entree, 2 scoops rice and 1 side); Mini Plate (1 choice of entree, 1 scoop rice and 1 side) and Micro Mini Plate (1 choice of entree, 1 scoops rice). No matter which plate lunch size you order, the portion is huge. We ordered a regular roast turkey, micro mini sweet sour spareribs, micro mini Teri beef and micro mini mushroom chicken. The regular roast turkey included 2 scoops rice, 1 scoop stuffing and 1 side which I choose Mac salad. I wasn't able to finish and the leftovers will probably be 2 or 3 more meals. It delicious and the Mac Salad was tasty despite it being plain. The micro mini sweet sour spareribs were so delicious and was my favorite. It was sweet but not overly sweet and the spareribs were soft. Next time I'm ordering the regular plate :) The micro mini Teri beef was also delicious and was my next favorite. This is a walk-up window located in the industrial area of Waipahu. The food is delicious! Many love their roast pork, pork adobo, and shoyu chicken. My favorite is their shoyu chicken! Very flavorful and cooked to perfection. Not dry at all. Their prices are also very reasonable for the portions that you get. Each day, they have about 5-6 different specials. It is recommended to go when they open or to call in your order before 9am because they tend to get very busy and also run out of food quickly. They can run out of food as early as 11am. Their hours are from 9am-1pm Monday-Friday, but they tend to close once they run out of food. The service is phenomenal! The Auntie who owns the restaurant is super friendly and has great customer service. If you are Waipahu and looking for a good plate lunch, you should check this spot out. read more

Last year my friend raved about this place. He was going to bring me a plate but it was closed that day. Sadly, my friend passed away, so I made it a priority to honor his memory by eating at one of his favorite places! Scoopers makes a good plate lunch at a good price. You have a choice of a mix plate (2 choices, $13), regular ($11), mini ($9), or micro ($7). The plates come with a yummy brownie, and the mix plate also comes with a can drink. There's an extra charge for paying with a credit card, but no tax if you pay with cash. This is a good value. We are townies, so going out to Waipahu to get there early (open from 9am until they run out, usually before 1pm) was an event. Today, we tried the homemade hamburger steak, beef stew, shoyu chicken, and baked chicken. Everything was very good. I'm happy we made the drive. I can't say we'd go again (because of the distance from home), but we definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a solid local-style plate lunch. read more

It was my wife and I 1st time. I had the mixed plate combo, Beef Stew with Hamburger Steak Rice and Mac. I'm a Beef Stew guy, I was a bit disappointed. The meat was tough and flavor was little weak. My wife had Sweet Sour Spareribs with all Rice. She said flavor was there but meat was tough. Other than that, the portions are huge! The service is excellent! This place is sooo worth it! Such a good price for massive and delicious plate lunches! The mixed plate is worth it. Comes with a brownie and a drink. Such a deal for $13! They give so much food! No big deal, as I had a plan "B" after looking at their menu, as they served a Roast Turkey plate on Thursday. So Bruddah Fran ended up getting a "regular" Roast Turkey plate for $10 smackaz, and for $10 smackaz he sure got a lot!!! I've got to get this review out before my kanak attack kicks in! I finally had some time to try this place out and I'm so glad I did. YouTubers turned me onto this place. You can choose between a micro mini, mini or regular sized plate. Oh, and you get a brownie too with all the plates except for the micro mini size, I believe Once again my pictures were done after I started eating, but I think these will still give you an idea of the huge portions she gives...even after I grabbed my food out of the two plates I got...my own lunch buffet! 3 Huge pieces of shoyu chicken and a huge portion of the roast pork and gravy with all tossed salad. Yes, that's all meat! I took out the green salad so it doesn't wilt. There is still enough food to share for dinner and maybe enough for me to take for lunch tomorrow. Reviewing today to show you the "smaller" portions. Today I got the MINI roast beef and other half the "Micro" MINI beef curry. Difference basically is sides and very slight difference to portions. Micro mini, just 1 scoop side (rice, mac, toss) and entree Mini, 2 sides (rice and mac, rice and toss, all rice etc), and entree regular, 3 sides you get it now plus a drink. And maybe a small treat with your meals be included (brownie) Food is typical lunch wagon style. Dont expect high class fine dining or upscale $15-20 food trucks. These are simple, large scale made, not a made to order hold the blah blah blah lol. So if you're in the area wanting plate lunch other than the typical and on a budget give them a try. I've mentioned before; I don't plus or minus stars at random. I base it on: 1. taste 2. price 3. service 4. ambiance 5. overall value All of these come into play. Scoopers, faces a disadvantage of being a prep kitchen for a lunch wagon in the heart of an industrial neighborhood won't get credited for #4. What one star they lack, is made up with everything else. Of the remaining 4 categories, taste might be the weakest. I had the micro mini Beef Curry today. When it comes to curry, I'm used to Japanese style, Thai style or traditional India style. What I had was none of the above. It's local style! Beef stew minus tomatoes and sprinkled with curry powder! But no complaints here... BECAUSE I ONLY PAID FIVE BUCKS!! Price and overall value is off the charts!! What is there to complain about for five bucks?! As if that's not enough, I got a brownie for dessert! What jerk would complain about a $5 plate that comes with dessert??? Not me! Next, the service. it's fine and dandy when things go accordinglu. The real issue is how one copes with a situation. The last week, they ran out of rice. The woman at the window promptly apologized and quickly offered instead to add mac salad in its place. She took the initiative before I got to say anything. I like that! I haven't had the chance to try dishes other than today's Beef Curry, the Kalua Pig and Turkey I had beforewas actually not bad. While the cost of plate lunches across the state has breeched the $10 mark and mini plates are hovering around $8, it's good to see somebody actually trying to find a way to get it to the $5 mark.
