It's a quaint, friendly establishment! The second you walk in it is just an amazing smell of food overwhelming you in the best ways possible! I bought the Swiss burger with Mac salad and coleslaw and devoured it less than five minutes after leaving. My mom saw this place on TV this morning and she had high hopes for the food but sadly we were disappointed. We can deal with it being kinda in the ghetto of Waipahu but it was the very unhappy (clearly annoyed) counterperson who was taking our order - who SNAPPED AT MY MOM because she was confused with what comes with their plate lunch AND then the cook (assumedly - a different person than who took our order) annoyingly brought our items out to the table. She ordered the chop steak - I thought tasted ok, but it was seasoned heavier than my mom would like. Portion was right for the price. I got their signature Loco Moco burrito - SAD. It was $20, majority rice and mac salad, no meat. I needed a knife to cut the burrito in half, there was no counterperson or anyone available to ask for a knife, so I kind of looked around their register area and found a random one on the side, cut the burrito in half, DEFINITELY NOT how they showed it on TV, if the counterperson came back, I probably would have asked for them to swap it out. We were sitting for about 25 mins - nobody came back to the counter? If it wasn't for the counterpersons unfriendly attitude I was planning to buy their signature dessert to go, but I was turned off by the whole experience AND he didn't come back out anyways until literally I was throwing our containers away. He didn't greet us. Thank us. Ask how everything was. Or say anything when we were leaving. Everything was delicious! The thinly sliced beef tasted yummy and was tender! The fresh coleslaw had the right amount of crunch and tartness! Ordered the hamburger steak and the only way I can describe it is 2 hockey pucks covered with some kind of sweet tasting brown gravy. Hamburger patties shouldn't be dry and tough like this. Should be tender and juicy where you can cut it with a plastic fork, instead of the plastic fork breaking when I attempted to break off a piece. Not sure what was going on with the brown gravy, but shouldn't be on the sweet side. Brown rice was cooked with too much water to the point the rice was bland. We had the 808 cheesesteak - Philly cheesesteak sandwich with fries and coleslaw. First off, there are only three tables, but you can order to go. The price on the menu is not the same price you are charged (we got charged almost $2 more each than the price on the menu. At first they said sorry we don't have that today, then came back out and said he will make them. For the 2 sandwiches with coleslaw and french fries total was $49.98 ($23.91 each). This was nothing special (the steak was decent but the cheese sauce (not real cheese) overpowered the sandwich which really took away from the flavor. The fries and coleslaw were also just ok. Easily tops any of the other specialty burger places we've tried (and we've tried a lot of the). What's great is you can custom your toppings and they have unique ones like chimichurri. I got so excited when my hubby suggested ordering from Aina Grill today. I've been craving their Beef Kawali, so I ordered it again. I also tried their Smoked Marlin Dip with crispy pita chips. Parking was a breeze. There were plenty of spots available when we got there and our food was ready for pick-up when we arrived. Alejandro, the owner, greeted us and served our order. Nice and friendly guy! The Beef Kawali is still my favorite, though I felt it was cooked a bit better and crispier last time. I really love how the savory beef fat melts in my mouth. The chillipeppahwatah is really a game changer for me when I added it to the beef Kawali. I really like eating it this way. The Smoked Marlin Dip, however, didn't quite meet my expectations. It lacked the fresh, smoky flavor I usually look for in a smoked marlin dip. There's definitely room for improvement with this dish. Then I remembered Aina Grill has fresh tasty burgers! Ordered for delivery on our way home so it arrived shortly after we did. Got our usual Pinoy bbq sticks, yum!! Hubs wanted beef so teriyaki steak for him. Portions were all generous and love that we had so many delicious sides to enjoy! Check out my previous Aina Grill review for how MUCH we love them lol. Wife and I came here yesterday as I've been eyeballing that loco moco burrito for a while. Also had the smoked marlin dip and the hoisin chicken which we saved for later. Wife ordered as many beef kawali as possible. Beef kawali was good as usual. I really was hoping for more vinegar on the side but still the best thing on the menu. The hoisin chicken had a great char flavor to it. Definitely enjoy the flavors to this chicken. The loco moco burrito was also good. I was wondering how this will be pulled off and it could be messier in my book. Too light on the gravy. I also like my loco moco with a sunny or overeasy egg. I was missing that. Definitely missing was massive amounts of gravy. How to rework this is to make an option for a wet burrito or gravy on the side as a dip or pour over. Put the sunny egg on top and pour the gravy. We have ourselves a great burrito! Also I'd go with a garlic rice or fried rice over the spanish rice, but it works. The smoked marlin dip was a bit of a letdown. It's served with fried pita chips. I kept dipping looking for the smoked part but couldn't find it. Liquid smoke will only help this dip out for the smoked flavor we were looking for. Once again, we thought overall, the food was good. I still think it has the potential to be great. The food for me was telling me that, and the menu itself as unique as it is is telling me that also. Just some minor changes to the recipes and an honest change to some menu items that might not be selling too well. We ordered takeout and it was quick and good quality. I got mochiko chicken, which I normally have had with no sauce or some variation of katsu, eel or plum sauce. This time I saw they had Che chimichuri style and couldn't resist. I would have liked to have more sauce but that was really the only issue I had. The rice was well cooked but not highly seasoned so it has room for spicing your way. The fries weren't soggy like some of the diners I have tried. They got the Swiss burger and enjoyed it. We were the only ones dining in, there were 2 customers that came for takeout while we were there. short rib loco moco - very tender / excellent tasty... toss salad dressing is homemade and delicious. steamed vegetables also a good selection. I recently watched some videos on this place which motivated me to drop by and try their loco Moco burrito. It was slightly different than I expected with the gravy but overall it was tasty. It's a small place with seating for about 14-15 people but good food and friendly staff. They also have a loco Moco food challenge here if you've got a big appetite. read more

On our weekly Tuesday trip to Waipahu at lunch, decided to try Aina Grill. Tiny place but easily found parking. Called in order and he was just bringing it out as we got there. Hubs got the short rib loco moco, with rice, slaw, tossed. Short rib super soft, and a nice size piece. He thought the fried onions was a nice touch. Eggs ended up being over-medium instead of easy, but hubs didn't care. I got the fried chicken with all tossed and avo cilantro dressing. 3 pieces of boneless, lightly coated chicken, cooked perfectly. They were thin cut and not the full chicken, so probs not enough for most people, but I was full after eating half a plate of greens, so didn't finish the chicken. Think maybe good use a touch more salt, but I like super salty...and there was a sauce but I forgot to even try it. Dressing tasted like green mayo, so I skipped that. Wife and I stopped in to grab a bite and were presently surprised with this small four table spot she found online. Counter girl was very pleasant and helpful with our order and once she realized we're going to dine in helped set up the table wiping it down and bringing out our food. We had the Garlic Shrimp Plate, she really liked this, and Ahi Katsu plate, which was also good, and each came with three sides. Only criticism was the sides were not served hot, the size on the main protein was not that big but was enough for lunch, and the ahi katsu was a little overdone. Yesterday (10/16/25) me and my bf decided to try out Aina grill in Waipahu. My bf ordered a regular braised short rib loco moco $25.99 & I ordered a mini Ahi katsu $15.99. Food came out & tell me why my mini was bigger than the regular ?! The regular size had 1 scoop mac salad, 1 scoop rice, maybe 3 pieces of what looked and tasted like stew meat, topped with 1 egg. The mini had 1 and a half scoop rice, sautéed veggies, and a decent amount of Ahi katsu. I don't understand how or why my mini had more food than my bfs regular sized plate. Yelp asks, 'Do you recommend this business?' A wholehearted 'YES!' We found our new go-to takeout joint, and luckily it's nearby in Waipahu. I found out about Aina Grill via Yelp of course, and I was so intrigued by their seemingly chef-quality plate lunches. I was also enticed by the fact that you can choose up to 3 QUALITY sides for their plates, not just the typical mac salad, toss greens, and rice. Their sides range from roasted red potatoes with cheese sauce and coleslaw to rice and even fried noodles! I'm always torn about ordering a side of noodles, but their plates include it as a side option! The first time I ordered from there, I ordered their hoisin chicken plate. It was super ono and moist! Again, I loved the ability to order fried noodles and coleslaw with my plate. The second time, I ordered their bbq pork sticks - these were incredible! So tender and yummy. Of course, had to go with the fried noodles again. I also tried their grilled sirloin with a spicy sauce plate. How could you go wrong? Every dish here is delicious! We had ordered a loco moco and a Swiss burger. All together was around $42. I never mind price and wait time for quality food. the loco moco patties were really burnt didn't even eat it, tbh the rice was the only thing that was good on there. Noodles were plain. My burger was ono, but my fries were really soggy and sad looking lol. I had hyped myself up because of the reviews but i wouldn't get those plates again.
