I would rate It a Zero Stars If I could Came back home for Vacation and was really looking forward to getting honey garlic chicken from here, but wow... what a letdown. This used to be one of my go-to spots for $12.83 you'd get a full, satisfying plate. This time? Only 7 pieces of chicken, barely any honey garlic sauce, and not even a full scoop of mac salad. Stopped by for lunch on a Sunday. Wasn't busy at all. Walked in and it smelled a little weird inside, but it appeared clean. It was freezing inside while I was waiting! The menu photos were a little outdated and faded looking but I got the mochiko chicken regular size - $17.02. It took about 5 mins to come out, and it was very hot! The chicken was fried well, but lacked flavor. Rice was cooked well. I couldn't eat the Mac salad but my mom liked it. The portion was big. It's your regular run of the mill eatery. They have pictures and clear signs of the food they offer. They have a lot of hand written signs, I'm guessing to address the kids who may come hangout after school. Service is kind of slow considering I was the only person in the dining area. The food wasn't the prettiest I've seen but I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was! I got a pretty good portion for a mini plate. Their Mac salad was really tasty. I'm not familiar with Salt Lake eateries so I asked my friend Lloyd who lives in the neighborhood if he had any recommendations. He mentioned ISLANDER DRIVE INN located in a strip mall next to Safeway. After looking over the menu ahead of time, I decided to order the BBQ CHICKEN mini plate. My daughter and dad ordered the HAMBURGER STEAK mini plate. What can I say about the food? I thought the BBQ chicken plate was ono and the portion was filling. It tastes just like L&L. My dad couldn't eat all of his hamburger steak, so I was able to try it. It was just as delicious. The gravy was ono, too! Thank you Lloyd for your recommendation. If I could leave 0 stars I would. Placed a phone order and was told to hold. Not sure why because they weren't busy. I pulled into the parking lot while on hold and there were no customers. Girl was also rude when she took my order. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries extra crispy. Ten minutes later I went in to pick up my order. My order wasn't ready. The girl asked the cook/owner when my order would be ready and he had no clue what she was talking about. Then he said oh I just put the fries in and it should be 3 minutes more for my order. I paid almost $13 for a small fries and cheeseburger! When I picked up my order, the bag was so light I thought she forgot the burger. Buyer beware their small fries fill up less than half a bag. The fries were also raw so my daughter couldn't eat it. The burger was super thin. I will never go here again. read more

I'm not in this area much but we were visiting someone at Kaiser and needed to get something to eat nearby. I've never heard of this place but did a quick search on yelp for dinner and this popped up. I ordered a honey garlic chicken/hamburger steak combo, my husband got a kalbi plate and we ordered a cheeseburger with fries and a mini bbq chicken plate for our parents. Service was okay and they prepared our food really quickly. The inside looks similar to an L&L or any other plate lunch place. The honey garlic chicken was crispy and delicious. The hamburger steak was a homemade patty which was yummy as well with the classic gravy. The rest of my family enjoyed their food as well. Of the limited food choices in Salt Lake Shopping Center, this is one of the best. Our go-to is chicken mushroom, which is a simple stir fry with chicken, mushrooms, onions and bell peppers with a sweet teriyaki sauce. The chicken is tender and moist, and the veggies sauteed enough to be caramelized yet crunchy. We've also tried their Teri beef with fried rice and hamburger steak. Both are good, with the Teri beef being tenderer than most other places. The cashier is nice and polite, which is not always a given in such restaurants. Regardless of whether you eat-in or take-out, the food is served in compostable containers. The seating looks like it was for a Subway restaurant with its hard laminate booth construction. The restaurant overall is clean. The menu is your typical local plate lunch flare offering both mini and regular sized portions, and I found the pricing to be in line with other similar eateries. The cashier was crazy busy taking phone orders, counter orders, and calling out completed orders for customer pick up. Somehow, she keeps it altogether and our order was out in about 5-10 minutes. I've had both the teriyaki pork and chicken katsu curry during my visits and they were good. My wife had the mushroom chicken on our most recent visit, which had good flavor but was short on mushrooms. In fact, she found only one. For that, one-star deduction. Parking is shared with the other merchants in the shopping center and can get a little congested during the lunch hour but we've always find a spot without issue. Honey garlic chicken is the best! Imagine fried crispy chicken. Now imagine a hot sticky honey garlic glaze drizzled over it. The sauce drips on the rice below and next to it is a scope of mac salad untouched by honey, but ready for drips of Tabasco by me. My only advice is eat it fast. The homemade burger was thin, like a McDonald's cheeseburger, and patty smaller than the bun. The hamburger steak was also thin. The portions on the plate were small, and they used small to-go plates to make it look like more food (mini size to go plates). However, the garlic chicken was tasty with their special sauce. It's unfortunate to mention, but when the swing doors to the kitchen opened, the kitchen was extremely dirty. It seemed like it hadn't been cleaned in years. Today was my first visit and I was amazed. I got the mini honey garlic chicken since I did not want to fill myself up. But there was a lot of chicken. The taste was amazing and their mac, well it was equally delicious!! I would definitely eat here if your by the airport. Defiantly on my bucket list to return. Islander drive inn is our favorite place to eat when weare in the area. They do give smaller portions of their rice, but their rice is good and not like the other eateries that have dry jasmine rice. I like my hinode rice a little sticky and not dry and hard. Islander inn has good food and the rice is the icing on the cake which makes my meal satisfying. For me rice can ruin my meal if not cooked correctly and the cheap jasmine rice hard rice. Anyway, I recommend trying this place out in salt lake next to safeway. Ono food! read more

Lost a customer Ordered two regular plates one all rice and 4 plain cheese burgers and two small fries. Cost was $68,which is fine until I go home and find my order messed up. All for cheeseburgers had ketchup and mayonnaise. And the plate I asked to be all rice, came two scoops rice and 1 scoop Mac. Luckily I had cash on me but places like these need to keep up with society here. My husband and son wanted to eat here I on the other hand wanted Subway but tagged along. I'm so happy i did, I was pleasantly surprised how tasty and reasonable $. The mini Hamburger Steak with Mac salad was delicious and perfect portion too! This little diner is located in the salt lake shopping center next to Safeway. We ordered three plates, a mini loco moco, mochiko chicken, and a katsu curry plate. We wanted beef stew mix but the beef stew was not available. Also we wanted the bbq chicken and lemon chicken mix but they were out of lemon chicken. I have never experienced going to a local food take out where they did not have what is on the menu. Anyways, food was okay. The mochiko chicken was great very tasty. The loco moco was not the greatest, gravy was very very bland. The katsu curry was good. All plates came with rice and Mac salad. I went here because I had a class in the area. This review is just pretty much based on one of their items since I just went there to grab a quick lunch. I really was craving loco moco and it really is my dish that I get when I go to these local take out places. But I was reading some of the other Yelp reviews and it said to choose their specials. I was so tempted when I walked in to get a loco moco but I didn't. I found their popular items list on the wall. One of the items that people wrote a lot about on Yelp was the Honey Garlic Chicken. It looked good in the pictures so I thought I would give it a try. I ordered a mini with no Mac and toss salad instead. They give a lot for a mini but I ate it all because it tasted so good. I expected it to be kind of like chicken Katsu kind of consistency but it wasn't. The crust of the chicken was crispy and the flavor was super delicious. It was crunchy like chicken karaage type. I liked the sauce that they used for the chicken. It drizzled over the salad and I just used that for my dressing instead of using their salad dressing. Eating this dish was an unexpected surprise and I'm glad that I chose this over the loco moco. I'll definitely stop by here next time I'm in the area to get it again. read more

My family and I live fairly close by. We decided to give this place a try one night and we loved the food. When I arrived to pick up my order I was greeted with a warm welcome. The cashier was nice and polite to me just like she was when I ordered on the phone. unfortunately I didn't catch her name. The food was still nice and warm when I got home. My family and I agreed the food was good and saved this place as a place we'd like to come back to. I went today to grab a late lunch for us. Was still yummy and the food was nice and warm. The portions are good, but then again I don't eat much so what may be a good portion for me might not be considered a good portion for you. This place is cash only, so don't be bringing that worn out debit card of yours. These folks really take it strong - whether it's their turn or not! I had the mini chicken cutlet with mushroom gravy, all rice. Yes friends, those are REAL, honest to God mushrooms. Is it not amazing? I was super excited. But the gravy was a little under seasoned and some of the chicken was a little fatty. Also? Some of my pieces has a taste of....something else, not chicken and not gravy. Yeah, I don't know. BUT the chicken was crunchy on the outside and super moist on the inside. AND once I added some shoyu and black pepper I was rocking and rolling. The mini was gigantic. I got it to eat in but I wondered how that would have fit in the mini takeout container if I got it to go! There was a lot of variety here but some of the popular items were pork chops, honey garlic chicken, grilled salmon, mochiko chicken, and garlic shrimp (it's listed on the wall). They also have party platters if you are looking for stuff like that. They have some simple breakfast offerings and some sandwiches too. The inside is pretty dang clean. No junk on the floor, tabletops spotless, garbage looks like it's emptied on the regular. Hey, you know what I'm talking about! You don't want to go someplace and think, "whoa this loco moco is awesome" but the seating area is so funky you're not sure if it's worth it. Lots of people were in and out so it wasn't crowded when I was there, but I've seen it pretty packed before.
