I was in the area and decided to try something new. I looked up the reviews of this place and was curious to try their Kalbi since many high rated reviews highlighted it. I ordered a regular combo plate with Kalbi & Chicken Katsu. The Kalbi wasn't too flavorful. The Katsu was over fried which made it a little tough and dried out the chicken a bit. I enjoyed the dipping sauce for it though. The service wasn't very cheerful. I had asked for a recommendation on their Korean sides (I had 4 to choose for my plate) The woman told me "I don't know... you choose". The sides to choose from weren't very flavorful. I got the shoyu potato, cucumber kimchee, seaweed salad and battered zucchini. The ambiance isn't much of an experience. There's two two-seater tables tucked in the corner. More of a grab and go spot. Not accommodating for large parties. I did notice, but didn't mention to the woman, that she charged me 24.97 for regular combo plate but the sign reads $23.95. I had planned to tip already so I let it slide but just something to note when ordering here to be mindful of possible pricing adjustments at checkout. Areas of excellence- Katsu sauce! For those who prefer a more thicker, ketchup based sauce- this place has it. Areas of opportunity- Marinate the Kalbi! Even providing a sauce to drizzle on top would be a game changer! Shorter cook time for the Chicken Katsu - it will keep the chicken moist. Ensure the side dishes are well seasoned and flavorful. Encourage staff to be more engaging and friendly. It will add to the joy and experience for customers. Honor pricing as advertised. If there is a percentage added for using credit cards for example, let people know ahead of time or provide signs so they are informed. FIRST TIME trying this place out. Very small restaurant with only 2 person tables for dining in. Got there close to 1pm and there were three people waiting for their orders. We were looking for a place to get lunch thatbwasnt too crowded. Checked them out on Yelp and saw that they had 4 stars so we decided to try them out. We ordered: 1. Mini Spicy BBQ Chicken 2. Regular Kalbi The meats were good and cooked well but the banchan (bean spouts, seaweed, cucumber kim chee, pickled raddish & tofu) were bland. I paid $22.75 for a regular kalbi plate before tax and it only came with two pieces cut into 6 pieces. I was shocked as all of the other korean restaurants that I go to have three pieces making 9 bones with the same price. I love the banchan and it was disappointing that all of the ones I ordered had no flavor. It was so bad that I couldn't eat it and had to throw it out. Located in the parking lot before the airport, across of McDonalds and IHOP, Family BBQ is tucked away on the left most corner (towards the airport). We got the garlic chicken and spicy BBQ chicken. The spicy BBQ chicken was very tender, moist and tasty! The taste mostly comes from the sauce, which is garlicy and honestly, not super spicy. It has a tiny kick. The star of the show is the garlic chicken. They're in like smaller bites and pieces but oh man, so packed with flavor! Reminds of famous garlic chicken places, but better. Banchan was all delicious. The daikon is refreshing, not too vinegary. The kimchi is delicious! Not watery nor too salty. Bean sprouts are great and fish cakes were tasty! Quantity of food was superb! Nowadays, can't get a MINI more than $15 but the minis here were actually under that. I got two thighs in my mini! They are incredibly generous, and the food is actually good. They're not like other Korean Plate lunch places that only give you a lot, but a lot of meh food. Prices obviously are justified. The place was clean and compact, and the bento is what i bought. my preference is no beef, so that bento I had has katsu, bbq chicken, and some other stuff. First day on Oahu and came here after arriving from the airport, so this was a great first meal! It is a small hole in the wall place with two tables for 4 people and outdoor seating without any umbrellas. I heard they used to have them though. Luckily there were 2 construction workers that finished their meal not too long after we placed our order, so our party of 4 was able to sit down out of the heat. The sides were tasty and at the counter. My favorite was the japchae and the potatoes that were slightly sweet! The Kal bi had about 6-7 pieces, freshly cooked and so delicious! This is one of my favorite korean plate lunch places. The owner is friendly and efficient, and is there taking orders almost everyday. They have a ton of local and korean food options, in addition to premade bentos (perfect to grab before a flight). I also love the variety of sides, which are much better than most other korean takeout restaurant. The fishcake and daikon are my faves. Two and a half. The bbq chicken had little to no taste. Maybe they didn't get to marinate it long enough. The meat jun was ok nothing extra. The teriyaki meat was decent but just not enough depth in flavors. The rice was a bit mushy. However the chap chae was decent enough even without any vegetables in it. It is on the sweeter side. The cucumber Kim chee wasn't kim chee just spicy cucumber and the broccoli was good. The zucchini Jun wasn't anything to be happy about. No flavor no seasoning. My sister picked up food for us for dinner at Family BBQ, and although the food was good, the worker messed up 2/3 of our orders. I got the mini meat jun plate and requested potatoes, lotus root, and bean sprouts. My sister told me that the worker repeated back this exact order, but instead of the potatoes, it came with broccoli. My sister's combination plate was also missing the daikon banchan. My other sister ordered the kalbi plate and said that it was mostly bones. The food itself was very good. The meat jun was thin but flavorful, and the banchan were all delicious - even the plain ole broccoli that they gave me. Overrated. Not coming back here. I thought this would be a good place to get Korean food because of the reviews, but sadly I was mistaken. I ordered 2 plates, Meat Jun plate and a combo plate of meat jun and spicy pork. I asked the lady for an extra meat jun sauce and she told me she put 2 in the bag. Yes, I saw she had put 2 in. But they were tiny containers. So I asked for an extra one. She hesitated but gave me one extra. The cost came out to about $39. Kind of pricy but similar to other Korean restaurants. Then when I was selecting the sides, the lady (owner) tells the worker she gave too much. So the worker proceeds to put back some of the vegetables and noodles! Smh, awful. When I got home, I was expecting to see 3 pieces of meat Jun, but it was 2 small pieces. It wasn't even enough to feed myself, and I'm not a big eater. And the other combo plate was just as bad. It had one even tinier piece of meat Jun and maybe half a fillet of spicy pork. If you're hungry, go to Yummys or Kim Chee 7. They give a lot more (2x) and the food is tastier. read more

In addition to being close to work, I've visited too many times to count and I give them 5 stars for reliable and consistent food with fast and friendly service. Located near the airport across Dunkin Donuts on the end of the strip mall near Big Kahuna's Pizza... parking is validated. They have standard meats but an addition of a few "local" items (mochiko chicken, spicy wings, shrimp tempura, garlic chicken, teri hamburger steak) and they have great combo plates like the house special (kalbi, bbq chicken, bbq beef, meat jun, mandoo, AND fried noodles) and there's the box lunch (bbq beef, bbq chicken, meat jun, mandoo, AND fried noodles) or make your own combination of course. I really enjoy the banchan... so much so... that I've come multiiple times to order... a VEGGIE PLATE! And I'm not vegetarian either... but the veggies are that good and so satisfying. You also can't beat $10 for a veggie plate and they load it up. They have shoyu potato, hasu (which a lot of places don't have), beansprouts, mac salad, cabbage, seaweed, long rice, green beans, broccoli, kim chee, cucumber kim chee, tofu, radish, corn, zucchini jun, and most of the time fishcake! Small little hole in the wall with 2 table that can only sit 2 people on each table. I'd recommended to call in your order cause it took awhile. I waited almost 20 min. As far as the food. Seems like a lot of restaurants near the airport close early. Driving through the airport area to find food to take home was a feat. Most restaurants are closed by 6pm, except this restaurant among a few others in the airport plaza. As I browsed through my trusty Yelp app, I found your yelpers reviews, that again, held true to your words. They give a LOT for the same price as other Korean take out places. Hamburger steak - 4 stars - for $12.45, I got two huge hamburger patties smothered with teri or brown gravy topped with onions and 4 choices of panchan. I was surprised they have different types of panchan than the regular choices usually served at yummies. Chicken curry special - can'trate itbecause didn't eat it, but they gave a huge take out bowl for only about $12. Comes with 2 choices of panchan and rice. Service - 5 stars - very nice and accomodating, and we couldn't decide if we wanted brown gravy or teri on our hamburger steak so they offered one sauce on one and gravy on the other. I wanted to see assortment of bento they had available per Yelp photos but I assumed due to pandemic it wasn't available. Looking at the menu, I had a hard time deciding, this is the new normal for me, haha. I ended up getting #26 regular combination plate($14.15) spicy bbq chicken and meat jun, no rice, with choice of 5 vegetables instead of 4. I like the assortment of ban chan, I saw lotus root which is my very first time seeing that offered as ban chan so I had to get double orders of that. After paying for my order, the cashier asked that I wait outside and when my order was ready she brought it out, due to the new safety measure for Covid19. Side notes for my next visits, Family BBQ has Daily Specials, Monday-Saturday, which all sounds great, and noticed the mini and family packs, will def. get this for the next family get together. For my future trips, I will make sure I stop by to pick up bentos for my flight. The final verdict and when it was time for our dinner, it was only my husband and I, no big kids that night. My husband loves his meat jun,he has his favorite place that he likes, the meat jun sort of passed, he mentioned it was alright main thing he enjoyed everything else. I don't eat beef, I enjoyed the spicy bbq chicken and veggies. Out of all the ban chan, my favorite is the lotus root, despite it being on the sweet side. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the lotus root and chicken is more on the sweet side which I was worried, it would be bad for me since I am on Keto. Overall, had a great night eating in with my other half. I will be back and this time I like to try the other menu items and daily specials.
