Major major yummy! My wife and I were out running errands and it was time for lunch. Where to go? I was in the mood for catfish so we were off to Flying Fish. My wife is not a lover of fish. She likes going there because they have wonderful chicken and burgers on the menu for her. I ordered the 2 filet catfish basket and she ordered a burger and fries. Both of our entrees were wonderful. My catfish was fried to perfection and Terry said she loved her burger. A definite plus of our visit was the weather. Food is good, but they are ripping people off on Uber Eats. Prices on Uber Eats are considerably higher than at the restaurant. This is ridiculous. If you want to charge more for "carryout" items, then incorporate that into a "delivery fee charge" - don't jack up the prices. Example: Hog Wallow Fry - $20.99 at the restaurant Hog Wallow Fry - $27.30 on Uber Eats Lobster stew, cup - $6.99 at the restaurant Lobster stew, cup - $9.10 on Uber Eats Okra - $3.50 at restaurant Okra - $4.55 on Uber Eats So, If I ordered all those items, it would cost me 24% more to order Uber Eats than to go to the restaurant!!! This is a flat rip-off. Just because I want the convenience of ordering delivery food does not mean I should pay extremely, significantly higher prices. I disagree with this policy, and so should every other Yelp reader who enjoys good delivery food at a reasonable price. Shame! read more

I only got two tiny hushpuppies with my 6 piece jumbo shrimp meal :( That is my only complaint. The food was great, coleslaw was moist and tangy, and the key lime pie was good. Flying Fish completely shocked me this past visit and I am now maybe an addict. When I first heard of Flying Fish and back when I used to go years ago I just always got the fried combo baskets. Those were before my better eating habit days. This past weekend totally opened my eyes to how good their menu is though! I got the red snapper with extra veggies and it was insanely delicious!! I got the "snappy" sauce which is their spicier option and it was divine. It is 12.99 for this meal, but it came with two fillets of red snapper so I was impressed. I also got a margarita on the rocks which was delicious and WAY better than any other margarita in the downtown area. We got the Hula Hoppers and I have to say they are a MUST HAVE!! You get eight jalapenos stuffed with shrimp, cheese, and wrapped in bacon. What is better than that? My boyfriend got the shrimp/catfish combo with Cajun seasoning and I was impressed with the seasoning and the lack of "grease" it was for being a fried dish. The guy that took our order really sold me on coming back here more often though. He was really helpful in suggestions for us based on our preferences. Ordered for delivery online. We paid $100 dollars for the meal. We ordered 2 whole catfish, the 1lb boiled shrimp with rice and fries and the 1lb of crab legs. The fish looked like fish filets instead of the whole catfish we saw online and hoped to receive. The fish was bland and didn't taste like catfish, tasted more like tilapia. The inner layer of the cornmeal on the fish was mushy. Flavors were not the best, the website says fries and hush puppies included - we didn't get any fries. The dressing for the side salad I ordered was buried in the salad. I didn't find the dressing until I was almost done with the salad. The sun dried tomato vinaigrette did not taste very well so I opted to stick with my Neumann Caesar from my fridge. The shrimp and crab legs have a super hot, spicy dry seasoning (seasoning spicy, not heat spicy) heavily dusted on top. It would have been nice if the website would explain that! I ordered these entrees for my daughters and the spice was so hot, they couldn't enjoy the food. And they like spicy! One daughter commented that aside from the spicy seasoning, the shrimp lacked salt and flavor. The same daughter also commented that the food smelled very "fishy". My girls ordered fries with their meals and received "new potatoes" instead. And she ordered rice, which did not make the delivery. The potatoes were clunky, whole, large potatoes, covered in more of the spicy dry seasoning. Same thing with the corn on the cob. We received 1 box of fries which were room temp which made them taste stale & old. No cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, butter, ketchup, mustard, no utensils.... Nothing, only substitute sugar packets... as requested by my daughter for the rice they didn't deliver, and she actually order sugar for her rice not stevia or Splenda. Overall, we ended up throwing the majority of the food (a good 90%) in the trash. And, we didn't get all of the food promised on the website or the food we actually ordered. The onion rings are delicious and the crawfish chowder would be perfect for a cold day. On Sundays, you can get oysters for $.75 each, what a deal! Yummilicious! Found this place because we had a college tour and was hungry as heck so we ended up getting all you can eat catfish. No lines, lots of parking. Was able to order right away and got the food immediately. Catfish was thin but had meat, unlike other places where its just breading. Be careful and not to eat right away because its hot!!! I've lived in Arlington for over 4 years and I have really liked this place in the past. Here recently I don't know if they have new management, new cooks but the food is below standards. We ordered the jumbo shrimp, 4 piece shrimp with 2 catfish, and chicken tenders which even with a coupon cost over $40. The food was cooked in old grease and you could smell the grease hours after we got home. The nuggets were cooked so hard my kid couldn't eat them. The time before I ordered the crab clusters through DoorDash and once I received them they were cold and no seasoning on the crab it was bland and nasty. I called to complain and they argued with me that I should have come and gotten it myself. If you are looking for a fresh seafood restaurant with good food don't come here and waste your hard earned money. This used to be my favorite place but they have gone so far down hill I truly don't see how they have repeat customers. Alright, now let's start with I'm not a fish fan but I Love this place. For the décor, they went with a fish camp style with pictures customers brought in showing them with their fish catch. Also they have the Big Mouth Billy adoption agency there. Bring in your Big Mouth Billy and sign it over to them and you get a free meal. Tacky I know but hey, it's fun. I mentioned that I do not like fish but I LOVE shrimp. They have some of the best fired fish I've ever had. The shrimp basket comes with hush puppies and fries. Everyone that I talk to that eats the different types of fish they have from fried to grilled they all love it. Now for the best thing they have here. HULA POPPERS..... holy cow they are the best. One of my favorite seafood joints in Arlington. First thing you notice is the large patio- do not wimp out and eat inside if the weather is nice!! Once inside, do not be intimidated by the large menu, just order a combo plate to try the basics first. The catfish and shrimp is my go to basket. The catfish is always perfectly cooked and flaky, and the shrimp are massive. I'm not a big fan of the fries- I like hand cut with a little bit of skin- think wingstop, but not so soggy. The hush puppies are so delish I usually order extra or steal from my friends baskets when the refill their drinks :). I've been all up in the shrimp cocktail- beware when you order it spicy- it's blazing- they also tho fresh jalapenos in that bad boy. And their ceviche is jamming.. Like, I wanna jump in and swim around its so good. For the quality of food- the prices are right on point. Good thing I got there when I did, because by 11:45 they were absolutely packed! Clearly a favorite lunch spot for all the hardworking locals nearby, and I can see why. They've got a colossal menu with great prices, a really fun and casual atmosphere, and speedy service. Menu items include everything from hot wings, to crawfish chowder, to cold boiled shrimp, to fried fish/chicken/oyster baskets, to po'boys, to grilled fish, to crab legs, to fish tacos. How do you choose?! I decided to order the fish tacos, grilled, because they're in corn tortillas. The tortillas were crispy like a fast food taco, and these suckers were completely stuffed; full and overflowing. I'm sure the fish was just frozen tilapia, but hey, it was good. With the fish was a ton of coleslaw and pico de gallo. A combo I totally recommend. Although the coleslaw was a bit too saucy for me, I thought as a whole the tacos were pretty very flavorful Now for the best and worst part of my Flying Fish adventure: the red beans and rice. They're so incredible! A great, distinctive, and unique flavor with just the right amount of heat. I could have eaten this whole bowl in two minutes, but I thought I tasted beer in them. NOOOO! Flying Fish was a good date night. Tilapia Veracruz was nicely cooked, I liked the grill marks that I could taste. Not a huge fan of the rice and beans, it's kinda Cajun which I am personally not a big fan of, but it also lacked flavor. But the quality seemed fresh! I loved the squash and zucchini that came with it, of all the food on the plate I felt it was seasoned the best. We also got a mexican shrimp cocktail - spicy. The spicy really just tasted like tobacco overkill, so I'd order it again but not spicy next time. My guys loved the key lime pie, which kind of resembled cheesecake, and banana pudding was fantastic too. Service was top notch! Flying Fish has such a large menu that I had to take a step back to give myself more time to look! I guarantee there's something on their menu for you. My first experience here was good. I tried the Fried Calamari appetizer, Fried Crawfish Po' Boy, and the (Fried) Fish Tacos. I really enjoyed the calamari because the batter to squid ratio was perfect! Unlike other restaurants, where all you could taste is the deep fried batter. My Po' Boy was delicious and let me just say two hush puppies were not enough! I was left wanting more. I was a tad bit disappointed with the Fish Tacos. They were not bad but it wasn't as great as I had hoped. Overall, I'm glad I gave Flying Fish a chance! Oh, you know...Lent season comes around and us catholics have to eat seafood on Fridays. I made my friend eat dinner here with me and shared calamari with entree of crawfish po boy. Calamari was good but the po boy was weird....the crawfish was so tiny and it wasnt all packed in the bread. Everything fell out when I bite into the sandwich. It got annoying to pick up every pickles and crawfish that had fallen out. I was starving from running four miles before having dinner here so I ate everything. My husband and I will not be returning here. The "lb" of shrimp was only about 1/2 a lb. the oysters were not attached to the shell and both of us got two in a shell which indicates they reuse shells and are using oysters from a bucket or can. I had an early dinner here yesterday, and it was a mixed experience: - Seating was fine, and ordering was easy. At 5:00 PM you have your choice of seats indoors or out. Parking was also plentiful. - Our orders came out quickly, and that's where I ran into trouble - the pico de gallo and cole slaw on my fish tacos seemed "off." Maybe they were holdovers from the morning, as the dinner rush hadn't started yet... my party convinced me to avoid them and go without. - It's kind of boring eating three fish tacos where the only flavors are fried catfish and crunchy tortillas bite-by-bite. The beans and rice were a great complement, but I ended up wishing I had gotten something else. (I get that I could have asked for the pico and slaw to be replaced, but I definitely didn't get a "happy to help!" vibe from most of the staff. When I approached the counter with a question soon after sitting down, I had to wait for conversations to die down to be acknowledged... and then I was pretty unceremoniously pointed off to the side. Going further, we were never asked if our food was alright, and we weren't acknowledged leaving, either.) It's totally fine for some restaurants to put food before service, but I feel that a bit more attentiveness would have really made our experience more pleasant. I was skeptical because I don't know anything about Arlington's food scene. I'm happy to say, I now know where to go when I'm in town. The customer service from every employee was welcoming and the atmosphere is really cool. The walls are filled with fishing plaques, customer's catches, and all things fishing.. We shared the crawfish po boy 3.8/5 Onion rings 4.3 French fries 4 Lobster stew 4.5 Shrimp/Catfish with cajun seasoning 4 The entire restaurant was clean, minus my dirty stew spoon. The ketchup pump didn't work but they rigged it up to make due.. And they have a really nice patio with fans and cover.. I definitely recommend this place without hesitation.. Hubby Ross and I visited around 8:30p on Sunday night and the place was a ghost town....only two other tables were occupied. Ross started with a dozen oysters on the half-shell, on special for $9 and they were served on the big plastic tray, arranged on crushed ice. They included cocktail sauce and a few lemons and the horseradish was already on the table. We ordered fried pickles too; however his entree arrived first, followed by the pickles and my food, so the timing was a bit off. I liked the pickles and he wasn't a fan, so those will be mine as leftovers. Crisp battered slices, served with ranch and what looked to be 1000 island. The ranch was ok, nothing amazing and I didn't try the other sauce. A basket runs $4.25 which is pretty standard pricing. Ross ordered the Trout Almandine, which isn't on the printed menu as it's a new item. It came with rice and beans and grilled veggies (squash and zucchini). He ate almost all except the veggies and declared it was OK, but nothing great. The fish was a very thin fillet, which was overcooked and dry. The sauce wasn't very prominent flavor-wise, with the only discernible ingredients of butter, almonds and shallots. The veggies were fine but he ran out of room! Priced at $12.49, it was plenty of food at a fair price. I ordered the cheeseburger, which comes with a large portion of thin French fries, which were piping hot but in dire need of salt. The burger was about medium-well and pretty thin, but still juicy. Mayo, mustard, iceberg lettuce, a slice of tomato and a few rings of white onion completed the burger. For $7.49 it could have been thicker and basically a better burger. We each ordered iced tea and the bill was $41.29 plus gratuity. If you pay with a debit or credit card, there is no place to add the tip. Overall, a quick and casual dinner that didn't thrill us but was satisfactory enough to firmly seat this restaurant in the "average" category. They are open till 10p which suits our schedule very well, so I think we will likely return. read more

Pre-Covid this spot was my jam. The price-point was justified by portion, quality and customer service. This was my 3rd time back since August 2021 and well , it's a ' not so much' for me. The customer service was as always GREAT. The price-point has been jacked up and the portions downsized. Honestly, I could do the elevation in price; I get it. 5/13/2019 First time ever. Located in downtown Arlington. There is not a lot of parking but we were able to get a parking spot. It is a cute little throwback place with two outside eating areas. We walked in and had no idea what to do. The guy Gerardo came to the counter and I said "We have never been here before". He just pointed to the menu on the wall and that was it. He was VERY DRY in his attitude and I almost told my family to leave. After we figured out the menu we ordered the following: 3 orders hot boiled shrimp @ 16.99 each=$50.97 2 bottomless teas...................................... $5.00 4 Shrimp 1 Catfish combo........................ $11.99 Green side salad....................................... $2.99 Fried Okra..................................................$3.50 Total............................................................$80.41 My mom said the catfish was not catfish and took it up to the counter. Gerardo said "It's catfish and that's the only fish he serves". Well per the menu they also serve tilapia(which itself is a hundred different species of fish). So the cooks could have cooked that by mistake. I had to go up to him and suggest replacing the UNKNOWN fish with more shrimp. I mean come on dude be a professional. The Mexican Martini Shrimp cocktail had at least 12 large fresh shrimp in it, about 1/3 of an avocado, and the sauce was spicy but not overpowering. My girlfriend and I have been looking for the best shrimp cocktail in the world for the last two years and we've found it. The tilapia fish tacos were also, clearly the best I've ever had thanks to a great sauce and amazing coleslaw in top. Gerardo, the man running the register guaranteed the coconut fried pie ala mode and it did not disappoint on any level to boot!!
