Great food at this location! Unfortunately the service is very poor. I often attempt to call to place a phone order and no will pick up after me calling at least 5 times. I've also witnessed it in person while standing in line. The last time i was there i waited in line for 10 minutes with just one person in front of me. I've been here countless times and it is the most reliable choice for lunch. They have bowls of beef, chicken, pork, VEGGIES, and combos. I've gotten the chicken bowls most of the time. I'm a sucker for teriyaki sauce, which wasn't too mushy. My only complaint is the bowls are too small. I have t get a large size to keep me full. What happens when you have to get the largest size is you have to pay more for the bowl. This is irritating because you're already paying at least $5 for a bowl of chicken, it would be nice to get a decent size for a decent price. Why I'm bringing this up is because I'm a light eater. The fact that my tiny appetite isn't sufficed worries me. In terms of the food, it is freshly grilled. They give the option of brown or white rice, and if you want onions or not. There is no question asked: the food is always on point. Just be prepared to pay more for the bigger bowl so you'll actually get full. read more

I tend to get the white meat chicken bowl with veggies, green onions, and brown rice. It's healthy. It's delicious. It's affordable. And it's quick. It's the healthiest fast food option. I love coming here in between classes if I don't have my lunch on me. And for my fellow calorie counters, it's perfect for you. Basically you have chicken or beef or both, some veggies (carrots, cabbage, broccoli, onions) and and your choice of brown or white rice. came here two days ago for the first time, and have to say the food is pretty decent and cheap! for around $5 and some change, you can get one of the many different types of bowls (chicken, beef, half and half...). so far my fav is the half and half which has both chicken and beef. don't forget to stock up on 'magic hot sauce' and the regular 'magic sauce' (which is just sweetened soy sauce). what's also cool is that you can substitute the white rice for brown rice at no extra charge so you can make it a little healthier. this place is definitely a refreshing change from Quizno's, McD's, and that pizza/watever place that's in the general area at GCC. read more

I've tried their beef bowl, white chicken bowl and their veggie bowl and my favorite is the white chicken! Although I have to say, now that I'm fasting for lent, the veggie bowl is a pretty great alternative...but I digress... They're very generous with their portions and overload their bowls to the point where walking from the counter to your table without toppling some of the cubes of chicken can be a challenge! Prices are reasonable, ingredients are fresh, contain no dairy, MSGs, trans fats so overall pretty darn healthy and relatively low in calories. This Flame Broiler is exactly like the location in Alhambra (see my review for the Alhambra location). I was introduced to Flame Broiler while I was a student at UC San Diego, where I always counted on the Flame Broiler location in La Jolla for a consistent, cheap, and healthy meal. They're originally based in Orange County, and it is great news to me that they are slowly moving and establishing locations to the north in the Los Angeles area. Now, specific to the Glendale location, the only thing I don't like about it is the parking situation during lunchtime. The restaurant is adjacent to Glendale College, and I do not attend Glendale College. As a result, I must find a place to mark in their tiny parking lot, and I haven't had much luck during lunchtime. But this is not their fault, nor did I count that against them in my award of stars. The location is prime, and I am sure it does very very well due to the influx of GCC students. The menu is really simple: bowls or plates with chicken, beef, or beef short ribs atop either white or brown rice. The plates come with a 1/2 orange and cabbage salad. They even offer kimchi upon request! The only thing missing is a good mac salad. If they had that, or some good shave ice, I'd probably move in. Still, the place is better than anything within 8 miles, and it is a no brainer for college folks. Sorry Yaki's, L&L, et al. This place cooks their meat consistently well (no hit/miss burnt or chewy pieces), provides friendly service, and is healthy. read more

Healthy food on a budget!! Check these macros yo... Chicken Bowl Calories: 610, Fat: 4.5g, Carbs: 67g, Protein: 43g SOLD! They put their magic sauce on the side which is nice if you're watching your sugar intake, personally I drown my bowl in it. Switch out the rice for veggies if you're going low low-carb as well. Small cramped parking lot with a lot of college students which might be tough at times. Not the greatest flavors but good for fast and good-for-you food. Beats the hell out of fast food junk. A Non-Starter According to YELP when I looked as recently as this morning, the Flame Broiler in Glendale is open 7 days a week. After going out of my way to try the place for lunch today, Sunday, I discovered that, as indicated by the Hours of Operation on the front door, it's CLOSED on the Lord's Day, a fact that I've submitted to Yelp to verify for itself and change in its listing. This is more the fault of YELP than the FB. However, it's going to be difficult to mount the energy to care enough to return during the week. It's like getting the inspiring pre-game pep talk from the coach that leaves the players frothing at the mouth, screaming "Kill!", and pounding their helmets against their lockers. I had to get a side bowl to mix and match the sauces. This is always my go-to palate cleanser and good dining experience. Looking for something inexpensive when I remembered I had coupons in the mailer for buy one plate or bowl and two drinks, get the second one free. Score! The menu was simple and prices were quite reasonable. The Works combo with beef and chicken, salad and steamed veggies were very tasty. A big plus for me is that they offer brown rice for no additional charge. Also, I like that they serve Mini bowls, which is perfect for small appetites. They have several kinds of iced teas and we always like making Arnold Palmers. Another plus. The quality of food was a big cut above Yoshinoya and service was friendly and quick. I'm happy! I was happy to find this place near my area ever since I graduated from UC Riverside back in June 2010. I love eating at the Flame Broiler when I was in college because it was healthy. When I first came here on Saturday afternoon, I ordered my chicken bowl with brown rice instead of white rice and was happy that I can replace the rice without charge. The magic sauce is great for flavor with the chicken and the pricing is affordable to have. I will return next time to get some Kimchi and try more of their food! P. S. My mom introduced me to this place and I LOVE the half and half bowls with the "hot" sauce. I wish there was one closer to my home but I am willing to make the drive. I have always taken mine to go so I am not sure about the actual sitting area. I am always full even with the mini bowls so I think you get good bang for you buck. Good food at a great price. For 6 bucks, I got the Half&Half Mini with brown rice and veggies perfect portion for me & it was delicious. Cashier Angeline ( according to receipt) was attentive and cheerful. I remember when this area had just the little white diner place for food outside GCC. Glad they upgraded. I'll be back! read more

I go here at least once a week because its quick and right next to school. I switch off between the Quiznos next door and here. Food is average, but its almost 5 bucks for a SMALL simple bowl of rice and few pieces of meat, either beef or chicken. (Id rather eat IN-n-Out with those 5 bucks and get a full meal!) I'm not as big a fan of FB as he is. But he is a five-star fan, so I figured I'd even this out with four solid stars. Price is decent. Service is okay. Variety is not so much, you choose half/half or one of the two (beef/chicken). Or I guess veggie but well, I'm sure you could find better veggie options than FB. Parking is not very good at all, weekend/weekday, school's in/out, this parking lot is always packed. But yes, great quality food. Healthier option for 'fast' food. Delicious sauce. And brown rice available. And extra green onions if your him or Pattie. If you can live without the salad & the half-orange, don't go with the plate and stick to the bowl. Also good to note: they offer catering now, but have never tried it. They also have free wifi although it's a little slow.
