Street Corner Taco Tuesday Action at THE GREAT WHITE stand...
    Seb F.

"Do you remember the time...?" Remember that song Michael Jackson sung!? Let's go Back... waaaaaaay back ... but further back now.... To 1947... when this place used to sling burgers and fries... they only started doing the tacos and loaded fries now for the last 7 years but decided to keep the Great name... You know what else went back in time?! Here!? The prices... Taco Tuesday tacos will set you back just one dollar a taco for their delicious carne asada (I got 5 spicy) or chicken meat choices... Need a zing!? A ring a ding ding!!! Get them spicy... But be careful ... they don't play so don't go over my recommended amount of 5 spicy Tacos or pay the price to Montezuma and his vengeful ways... You know what I'm sayin... the Chili's don't play... I got some non spicy Chicken and they were ALSO delicious AF... Ok?! Now if you wanna know what else they're famous for here... it's their loaded fries... Three meat toppings choices and three salsa choices... what more could you ask for ?! This place is kinda dangerous ... sitting on a corner next to a pharmacy and a Beer Brat Garden ... on October could land you in a heap of trouble... But the pharmacy is there to save the day ... so no harm no foul... "Do you remember the time"... isn't that Michael Jackson song from that DANGEROUS Album... I knew this place..would have me whistling these "throwback" songs and prices...but remember it ain't throwback Thursday at the Great White... it's on Tuesday's if you want those Taco Tuesday's at throwback prices... let's go back ... waaaay back!! Just remember this place is kinda Dangerous... so be chill... and come with your crunched up dollars... and save your street credit...!!! Ya feel me?! PS this place takes Apple Pay and credit cards ... so charge away ... But no moonwalking allowed... unless you're good at it...

3/5 I was looking forward coming here as the photos looks good online. Hi Hello or Hi, it was more like...what do you want atmosphere. The burrito was decent flavored but not the best. It was loaded with beans, fries, ground meat, etc. as soon as I grabbed it broke apart. Had to ask for utensil to scope the broken pieces. Service was fast but it was more of business mentality look. Not very welcoming. They was no sauce offered for the burrito and no straw for the drink. This place is more like order your food and gtfo and leave. They need to improve their service. The area is right on the street corner where you can park anywhere.

Well, I was trying to avoid updating the rating because I like the concept of the place - little hut open when you get hungry late nights, very convenient. And the food is just ok, half of the time. But they keep hiking the prices up like we all have money printers at home. Long story short - a single taco is almost $3 now. Yes, a regular little taco is almost $3. Actually probably over $3 if you include taxes. Just look at my photos, that's a $1.5, maybe $1.8 taco at most. These guys creep the prices every few months seems like. Anyways, that combined with pretty inconsistent quality, probably one of worst taco deals on Tuesdays (read my earlier reviews if interested), bad salsa, and the fact that every time I get food from here at least one thing has to be wrong, looses a star for me. If I could give 3.5 stars I would, but it's definitely closer to 3 than 4 for me, so 3 stars it is. I mentioned in my first review that I liked the California Burrito but the last 2 times I got it it was mushy and kind of flavorless, so maybe the first two times I lucked out? Or the other way around ‍ P.S. Aren't we all tired of how restaurants just keep gouging prices? We all do grocery shopping ok, prices went up maybe like 20% in the past 5 years but some establishments more than doubled their prices. Stop being greedy.

I used to work in the Glendale area and would always pass by this stand for the Great White. Decided to try it again after 8+ years and it did not disappoint. It's located on the corner of W California St and N Orange St., and literally just the stand, but you can't miss it with the red and white tops with high top seating around. You can either order at the terminal or via a QR code and ordering through your phone. It wasn't busy at the time I went which was right after our showing at the Nocturn. I placed an order on the terminal for The Classic fries, Carne Asada burrito, and a double cheeseburger. The fries were my favorite among the items I ordered. Plenty of carne asada, cilantro, and lots of garlic aoli sauce. The meat was seasoned well, creamy and garlicky aoli was great with bites of cilantro. Delicious. The burger and burritos were decent too. Lots of meat and beans in the burrito with onions and cilantro, the double cheeseburger was pretty standard as well. Overall a great spot for burgers, fries, or bltacos burritos. Definitely eat it as fresh as you can.

Made a phone order and he repeated it back correctly over the phone. Receipt is correct but the burger was completely wrong. By the time I got back home and opened it they were already closed so I couldn't do anything about it.

I'm so disappointed, I've passed this place I do no how many times, so Tuesday I've decided to try since tacos were only .99, well asada looked and tasted like ground beef, chicken I have no idea what I got, only 1 tortilla, tacos did not look anything lie poster. What happened to false advertisement? Maybe the fries are better!?

Bought 7 tacos, was told "well you gotta wait" because I asked for extra salsa, then I couldn't even get one full container of salsa. And they couldn't even use enough foil to close up my food. Service . Won't return.

We LOVE the Great White Hut! The perfect spot for when I'm working from home and am craving a yummy lunch. Lived in the area for a year and a half before trying it and now I can't stop going! Cute little place with great people who recognize you when you come back. Get the fiesta fries!!

Good spot by Hollywood. The fries were tasty as was the burger. Tried the burrito a different time also good. Would recommend a try and worth a slight detour.

    The spot!

However, since we came at night time where most of them were closed, we got parking right in front. This spot is more of a take-away place, with 6 counter seatings indoors, and maybe 3 chairs right out front. This tiny burger spot seems to be run by just one person, so it helps that you can self-order at their kiosk. He was very attentive juggling between cooking the made-to order items, and check in on the costumers in case they had questions. After placing my order at their one device, it was roughly a 15 minutes wait. Here's what we ordered: CHEESEBURGER - $9.90 High-quality beef patty smashed with grilled onions, serviced on a toasted Martin's potato bun and topped with pickles and their fry sauce. I really enjoyed this rich tasting burger. I think that fry sauce was a huge factor...but also that soft bun...and that flavorful beef patty. I really enjoyed this. FRIES - $5.25 Golden Thing-Cut Fries. Perfect. I mean this was made to order so they were warm, crispy and so dang good! It's how fries everywhere should be! I was hoping to come back during my trip in LA, but it's okay, it won't be the last time I visit.

The crispy lace edges, the juicy center, the grilled onion, the slightly spicy sauce, the slightly sweet bun...all dreamworthy! Their sweet potato fries aren't all that great to look at, but omg, always perfectly cooked and salted! Perfectly complimented with the fry sauce. All that said, we were disappointed when we received our last order: 1. Packaging change (paper wrapped instead of cardboard box for the burgers) robbed the craveable edges of their crispness. Plus there was so much grease on the paper wraps it actually made it messier to eat than before. 2. The sauce has changed. The spice level increased (still not too spicy), but a side of sauce (which you pay more than a $1 for) is now sent in a premade branded packet. I have zero issues paying extra for a good sauce made fresh in-house, but instead of tasting like a fresh sauce made with mayo and spices, it now tastes of oil and spices and is not nearly as tasty. We noticed the difference on the burgers as well, so it seems like their sauce is all premade now and not nearly as good.

The Black Cow Cafe has been part of my life since my college years, so when I came here now, it was always filled with nostalgia and a slowed pace over a calming meal. Opened in 1994 by a father and son, they embodied the community's "Main Street USA" vibe with a neighborhood diner where everyone knew each other, and you were served a soothing homemade meal during breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Did this cafe leave me with warm memories of the past, or did I cower from time's inevitable changes!? PURCHASE(S) Green Milan 16floz Drink ($7.95): My body needed something "green" and this sounded interesting. I thought it would be one of those health smoothies back in the 80s, but instead a frothy hazy light drink with a light grassy aroma and a middling leafy flavor. I didn't dislike it, but I wouldn't order it again. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=Uo_FrA9ezkxhIn4VnwEVtQ Vegetarian Omelette w/Country Potatoes & Sourdough Toast ($18.95): Made with avocado, cheddar cheese, mushrooms, Ortega chiles, pico de gallo, salsa ranchera, spinach, and topped with sour cream, an omelette was also on my eating bingo card. This smallish portion on the healthier side was packed with fresh goodness and fluffy eggs. The country potatoes were plentiful, nicely seasoned, but lacked the outer crisp I liked. The large sourdough toast with creamy butter and preserves rounded out the meal well. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=vDf51dNgOCoyIaPX_AOvrw Fish & Chips w/Coleslaw & Muffin ($17.95): Made with tempura fried Icelandic cod served with jalapeno tartar sauce, and Hawaiian coleslaw, the three fish pieces were crunchy, hot, and thick but needed more seasoning so the tarter sauce came in handy (no vinegar!). The coleslaw lacked much flavor and moisture, and the muffin was moist and warm. PARKING (Varied: FREE this instance): I found a spot in the large public lot directly above the restaurant off of Florencita Dr. Otherwise, there were metered spots along the main drag of Honolulu Ave. and all surrounding side streets- 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A packed layout filled with tables inside and along the front sidewalk, the decor was as if grandmothers united and gave it a country farm house appeal https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=HWq31BkepPCR8uWcUf4Gtw with odds-and-ends and knickknacks. A minimal amount of natural lighting came in through the front glass windows and doors while a mix of recessed and track electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were no TVs nor could I recall any background music over all of the loud conversations. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL It was nice to revisit The Black Cow Cafe, and hoped to return soon. The menu was packed, the food was good, the prices were comparable, and the service was busy but manageable. Plus, I always preferred to support small local mom & pop businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $69.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

While the chili is tasty and the service is excellent--the cashier was genuinely dedicated to guest satisfaction, and the food comes out hot and made-to-order in 5-10 minutes--it lacks the signature experience of the real OG Original Tommy's. Not huge at all and for the price, therefore not a good value. I spent $24 for the Chilicheese bruger combo with $1 upcharge for a bottled drink. The burger itself was decent, but they are way too tight with the chili portions compared to Tommy's, and the shoestring fries don't hold the chili nearly as well as the thicker-cut fries. I also found the specific combination of pickles, onions, and mustard on a Tommy's burger to be superior. The setting is purely a walk-up window with four outdoor benches, so it lacks the atmosphere of a traditional dine-in experience. Street parking during around 2pm on weekday was no problem. Got a spot right in front of the joint. If you do stop by, definitely give the chili a moment to cool--it comes out steaming hot! It's a solid, quick meal, but it hasn't dethroned the real OG, Original Tommy's, for me.
