Today I went to the Montrose Arts & Craft Festival and after walking around I worked up my hunger. After finding a couple of places that were not dog friendly I finally found a dog friendly bar restaurant with a great outdoor patio. After looking over the menu I decided on their Godfather Italian Sandwich. This had salami, capicola, mozzarella, spicy giardiniera & olive mayo. I also ordered a couple of IPA beers. The sandwich was absolutely great and extremely delicious. The french roll was warm and crunchy and the cold cut meats were high quality and I could taste it. Sitting outside with my dog Frankie I absolutely enjoyed the sandwich and the whole ambience of the patio. I look forward returning many times. I saw that they also have a breakfast burrito. Maybe next time I'll give that a try. As for the service, it was great. About three different people checked on me to see how I was doing. read more

Their patio is so lovely! Very dog friendly and there was even a very well trained cat hanging out with one family! The staff was super friendly but may have been short staffed- seemed like a one-woman show for most of the time we were there. Reinforcements did show up before it got busy for dinner/bingo at least. My Cuban sandwich was delish & huge! Basically got 3 meals out of it. The pretzel was super soft and I loved the beer cheese & mustard dips. My husband got the spicy sausage and enjoyed that as well. This is totally a local spot and nice and hidden but a great beer selection. We enjoy it but it's not a place we return to frequently. The bathrooms are oddly outside with a giant key but it's doable and there are two. The food is ok but not something I would return for alone. It's a decent place for happy hour and sitting on the upper outside patio can be enjoyable. This is like a mini local version of lucky baldwins with a smaller food selection. Excellent craft beer selection just a few steps down from Honolulu Ave. in the late afternoons the outdoor seating area is shaded and typically cool in the summer heat. The indoor area is small and if the weather is bad you could cozy up inside. The big pretzel is awesome, served warm with a side of cheese spread and mustard, it really pairs well with beer! The deviled eggs are great too. You don't find this dish in many places. Our typical go-to is the beet salad, good mix of greens, almonds, goat cheese, and roasted beets. It has a very chill vibe and a great place to relax with friends. Went here for the first time on a Friday. They don't serve hard alcohol just beer, which they had quite a few options. I personally did not try any of the food, but some in our group and said it was good. The inside is pretty small and divey and they have outside seating as well as the outside seating where parking spots used to be, one of the only good things to come out of covid. Thee Elbow Room is located on the main shopping/dining/entertainment strip in Montrose on Honolulu and can best be described as a small, dive bar. But that is where the solid descriptors end. With the moniker utilizing 'thee'; one would think this is a British pub. But alas, Thee Elbow Room is not and instead highlights a German atmosphere with an emphasis on German beer/stouts and bar foods that will remind you of an 'Ocktober Fest' with Bavarian pretzels, corned beef on rye bread sandwiches, deviled eggs, sausages, sauerkraut, etc. So, you may be asking if Thee Elbow Room is somewhat German folk in appearance. No, again! The outside façade of Thee Elbow Room reminds of an Old West saloon that would be rampant in a theme park like Knott's and the inside with its tiny bar and few tables is definitely more on the watering hole side. There is also an outdoor patio area surrounded by foliage. Basically, Thee Elbow Room is confused. My dining partner and I stopped by Thee Elbow Room for a quick drink/snack while visiting the amazing crystal/stone shop next door and opted to sit in the outdoor area. Being Celiac, I quickly noticed that there weren't many options available to me in terms of food and drink (note: apparently the menu has ciders which are Celiac friendly but I didn't see them). So while my dining partner chose a stout and the House Cured Corned Beef Sandwich (on rye bread, pickles, ground mustard - $11); I went drink-less and ordered the Spinach Artichoke Dip appetizer ($7) which I was legit going to eat as a meal with a spoon because this girl was hungry! The food took slightly longer to arrive than expected and initially the incorrect food was delivered to our table but once that was straightened out; it wasn't terrible. The corned beef was tender and flavorful with plenty of it and a perfect accent with the mustard. My Spinach Artichoke dip was super creamy with loads of cheese and VERY chunky with artichoke almost like a chowder. It was quite tasty if you like your dips thick. The Spinach Artichoke dip was served with bread toasted and cut into sticks and although I can't consume this due to the gluten; I had a bite and the bread was PERFECT especially with the dip. Wish I could have eaten it all! I must call out the young server who, although first incorrectly delivered food; went out of her way to compliment me on my dress, look, etc. Very sweet! Ladies, if you need to use a bathroom: it is located around the corner (I am assuming shared with the adjacent businesses) and isn't the cleanliest or most accommodating but it gets the job done. Thee Elbow Room may be more confused than a geriatric millennial having a midlife crisis (shout out to my generation!) but it isn't a bad spot to grab a German beer if in Montrose. NOTE: Cristal, the manager I believe, messaged me about this review. Initially she seemed apologetic that I didnt have the best experience. She also pointed out that I got the menu prices incorrect which I pulled from their website so they need to update the website. She then proceeded to ask me to REMOVE THIS REVIEW! A) that is against Yelp guidelines and I can report her to Yelp HQ and 2) this is a review of my experience and didnt even bash them. 3 stars means "average". Relax, Cristal. I've been here once and really enjoyed the quaint atmosphere, my sister and I went again after a hike. Cute little outdoor seating with tvs and plants surrounding you. Yesterday was the Oktoberfest in Montrose and my family, boyfriend and I decided to check it out since we've never been. As we got there we saw a sign that says "Beer Garden" so my boyfriend and I decided to go in to get a couple beers. It was quite busy in there but we were able to be helped right away. A young woman asked what we would like and I ordered one lager and one Pilsner. I took one small sip of the Pilsner and it tasted so bitter it was un drinkable. I politely asked the young girl if there would be any way I could please switch it out for the lager instead as I didn't care for it. She says yes but then turns to the worker who was pouring the drinks from the tap and that woman turns and says in a very nasty tone "no- did she take a sip!?" Of course I'm standing right there so I had apologized and said I just wanted to get a different beer. She then says-" this is not a soda fountain, you don't get to try a bunch of different drinks- you order the drink an take it" I couldn't believe how rude this woman was, the correct response should have been- " I'm sorry but unfortunately we don't accept exchanges, I'm happy to pour you the lager, but we will have to charge you for it" which I was more than happy to pay for the beer but that's not what was communicated to me up front from the other girl. I was very upset that someone especially in the service industry has the audacity to speak to a customer like that. I had told her that she shouldn't be working with customers and then she proceeded to tell me that " you shouldn't be drinking!" I will NEVER support this establishment again and I hope to any future patrons that they don't have to encounter that inconsiderate human. The owner responds and can't even offer an apology for how I was treated? My complaint was exactly what was stated in the response. - as mentioned in my original complaint the correct response should've been that exchanges are not excepted. My advice to you is to 1) streamline your communication process across your business and 2) coach your employees on how to properly engage in interactions with paying customers rather than responding with a passive aggressive message. read more

Nice outdoor seating for a summer night. The beer selection was great. Unfortunately, the grilled cheese was less than good--it had three cheese that sound good together but have totally different melting temps so it was the gooey treat my tastebuds were anticipating. Stopped in here after running some errands with my father in law. We were kicked out of the house because the mothers had a little play date with some other moms and a baby. It was also hot out, so the idea of a couple of cold beers was appealing. I've lived around this area but have never been in. Pros: + Happy hour is all day Monday through Thursday, pints are $6 and the "giant Bavarian pretzel" with mustard and pimento cheese is $6. + Easy free parking just to the east of the store. + Cute courtyard with plants for outdoor seating. + Prices are decent especially for the portion sizes. Cons: - No protein options for the Caesar salad. - Homemade Caesar dressing was way too fishy. - "Shaved" Parmesan was just grated Parmesan like you get out of a Kraft cannister. - Cuban sandwich's "roasted pork" was a mush, almost a puree devoid of texture. - The giant pretzel certainly was giant, but didn't taste like a pretzel. - Despite being the only ones in the restaurant, service was pretty sparse. - Despite having a bar, there is no soda dispenser or free refills; sodas are $3 per can. - Side salad which came with the sandwich had some noticeably dark brown/wilted/expired Spring mix I had to set aside. Overall the environment is cute and this might be a good place for a beer with friends, but unfortunately I was not impressed at all with the food or lunchtime service. Pass. read more

What a cute little hidden gem in the down town Montrose area. We were starving after a visit to Descanso Gardens and this place had photos of a cute patio seating area so we took the chance! The food was surprisingly very delicious! We shared a Reuben and a Cuban sandwich. We were disappointed to see no French fries, so we splurged on a hot pretzel! OMG it was so huge we took half of it home with us. Service was interesting- it was one bartender taking care of 3-4 tables of guests while we were there (plus a few take out orders). He did refill our drinks and checked on us twice quickly as he was grabbing stuff for other tables. We are pretty low maintenance so we were fine with it! I enjoyed a mid week lunch here a few weeks back. First time in. Not the most extensive menu and not all items shown online were available. I'd say this is a bar that offers food to go with your drinks: vs an outdoor cafe that happens to have a bar. Now I know My hat is off to the solo bartender who juggled several tables of hungry people while keeping drinks flowing to martinis-only lunchers. . I had the Tuna Melt, the most delicious one I've had anywhere, and I eat out quite a bit. At $9 it fit my wallet and my appetite. The temperature was perfect for eating outdoors (as eating 'in' is limited to 4 or so seats at the bar. My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday evening for some beers and food as I've recently moved to the area and wanted to try it out! The outdoor seating was very pleasant and shaded for the most part; also not crowded! My boyfriend ordered some beer and I got their hard seltzer's (the watermelon reminded me of a less sweet watermelon four Loko so I preferred the pina colada flavored one lol) and the waiter accidentally spilled a bit before he got it to our table so he comped the first one! I told him he didn't need to but he was so nice and did. For food, we got the Sausage Plate and the Cuban sandwich. The sausage plate was tasty, but their homemade sauerkraut doesn't have enough pickling for my taste. But the Cuban sandwich *chefs kiss* was amazing. The ham and pork were so juicy and Smokey and flavorful. The pickle and melts cheese with the crunchy bread were all the perfect compliments to such great meat. The time has come for me to review this gem of a spot in La Crescenta which can be a little too family friendly at times. There's nothing better than SoCal weather, a cold brewski, and good vibes, all the things this place offers. Staff- genuine and attentive Beer- cold Food- simple and tasty Vibes- very chill, dog friendly I'd been here a few times before COVID, their seating space was a little snug but still wonderful vibes. Since restaurants were able to extend into the streets, this place has become even more popular amongst the locals. Their seating doubled in size and the atmosphere is just as lovely because you're on Honolulu, full of trees and always decorated for the seasons with string lights.
