Our server literally scraped the food off my plate into the box so quickly, like he was cleaning off a plate into the trash can. I've never experienced something like this, it was so sloppy. Finally! Someone got it right! It was my birthday and I noted as such on my reservation. My server actually acknowledged that! She was a very good, and smart, server. She was very friendly, and she knew to suggest the most expensive cocktails on the drink menu. She also gave us a free jalapeño cheddar bread, which was very nice. Their kids menu is the most fanciest I've seen, with filet mignon and salmon offerings. Wow! My son got the filet mignon and it was super plain and basic. That was a bit disappointing. The charcuterie we ordered was our favorite. I ordered the short rib and my husband ordered the lobster & shrimp bucatini. My dish looked pretty; but both dishes were very salty. They gave me a bread pudding for my birthday at the end of the meal. It was hard. I've never had bread pudding hard. Then I ate it, and discovered it was cold. Was that intentional? Is that how it's served? I didn't enjoy that. View is great. But if you're sitting outside to partake the view while the sun is still out, be prepared to have conflicting needs for the shade with the other parties. read more

Came here on July 4th. It was very crowded and loud inside (expected I guess). We had a reservation and they let us wait for a patio seat outside if we preferred. The server, Riley, was so kind and accommodating as well. We were able to enjoy the outside view and fireworks and even the drone show! When we waited for our tables, they let us see the viewing areas around. The food was quite expensive. We got popcorn chicken, mac and cheese, Branzino and steak (can't remember which). My favorite was the sides. At the end of the day, you're just paying for the good view and good vibes. read more

I debated writing a review but what should have been a magical brunch for me and my dad to celebrate our birthday was the worst birthday celebration we've ever had. We paid extra to have a special section with a nice view. Do not fall for it... the view was not the best especially because we had another "private table" in the front. The food... was honestly the worst food I've ever had. It was cold, and absolutely tasteless. The milk for the coffee was spoiled, the didn't have sugar for the iced teas... everything was "no we don't have that" how do you not have sugar... The service.... The server decided to make an inappropriate joke about how someone in our party was able to "finish the whole thing" making smart remarks throughout the whole brunch experience. My family came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It's been a while since we last came, and they've added a few things to modernize the venue and add things like the flower photo wall to make it more IG friendly. I like how they remodeled the courtyard/ceremony area, it feels more open and modern. They do have a newer cocktail lounge area called "The Green Room" - reminiscent of a speakeasy since the entrance door is camouflaged with the wall on the way to the restrooms. I wouldn't have known about it except for the employee going around the lobby promoting it and trying to get people in. There is no self parking option anymore and you can't just hang out on the patio by the fire pits - they've all been taken over by tables. I made reservations on OpenTable. We were seated after a short time and had a stunning view of Burbank. I love coming in the evening to watch the sunset with a cocktail in hand. I know it's supposed to be a romantic, elegant ambiance, but I wish they could turn on the lights just a little bit more, as it was so dark we could barely read our menus, luckily each table had a little lamp that we ended up passing around to try to read the menu. Or it could be that I'm just getting old and my eyes don't work anymore. Our server was Aman and he was great. Everything we ordered was delightful, with the exception of the truffle popcorn chicken. The presentation was such a surprise - so cute and in theme - with the popcorn chicken and seasoned popcorn spilling out of an iconic red and white striped popcorn box, but the amount of popcorn chicken we received was a joke. Like 6 little pieces of chicken. It looks good when it arrives, but as we dug into the box to find chicken, we discovered it's actually 90% popcorn. My whole family was shocked and was actually mad about it - I mean, we ordered chicken. Not popcorn. My husband who hardly ever mentions anything at restaurants actually flagged down Aman to complain about it. He was understanding about it and rectified the situation. Our meal started with complimentary cornbread and it was so good, we asked for another. But honestly, one of those things split with 5 people wasn't enough - it's kind of small. I really enjoyed the butterfish, flavor was great and it was not fishy at all. The steaks I'm told were ok, a bit on the dry side. All the sides were great, my favorite was My favorite thing was my cocktail! I ordered the Belle and the presentation was magical. You know how in the movie "The Beauty and the Beast" how the rose is in a glass dome? It's like that. The drink comes encased in a glass dome with smoke so you can't see inside. But as the server lifts the glass, the smoke drifts out revealing the drink with rose petals on the bottom. So pretty! And the drink is darn good too! Castaway is such a special restaurant with a spectacular atmosphere and view, outstanding service and good food, and a fabulous place for gatherings or special occasions. We celebrated our anniversary last night and wanted to tell the staff what an amazing job they did. From start to finish we had an absolutely amazing evening. The server Fernando was informative, funny, and attentive. He made suggestions on our food as well as some beverages that were delicious. The restaurant has an elegant outdoor patio that is perfect for evenings overlooking the city. We started with the Himalayan Salt Brick Wagyu which was more of a novelty for me but a cool experience. Personally I had the New York Steak and 50/50 Mash that were prepared and seasoned perfectly. The Finest Hour (Old Fashioned) was delicious, not too sweet. We ended the night with the lava cake which was decadent and a very pleasant dessert to end the night on. I had an excellent visit last night with my group for a dinner lecture. Parking is valet and $11 which kinda sucks, unlike the odyssey which is free parking which I prefer to park my own car. Walking up the Castaway restaurant is beautiful and sits atop the mountains in Burbank giving a fantastic view. The room we were in was spacious and had a back table with soda, tea, lemonade to choose from, and on the side was a small bar where you could order wine if you wanted with the meal. Staff was very attentive to us making the dining experience very lovely. We were greeted with appetizers of which i loved the mozzarella with tomato, so refreshing to whet the appetite for the meal. Salad came next and was a generous portion I couldn't finish it all! I got the salmon which arrived on a bed of mashed potato and with a carrot and green beans and I loved that the carrot was cooked perfectly and soft enough to cut through with my knife. The green beans were just ok, they did not elevate the dish in any way. However the salmon and the mashed potatoes were melt in your mouth delicious that I ate the entire thing. I came here for the Caviar Fries and that's what I got. They were Capital A Amazing and there was no shortage of caviar on these crispy babies. Also, the view and the outdoor area is ridiculous. You can see the entire span of the Valley and it's hard to believe such gorgeous views can be found in Burbank. The service at the table was great, my one little nitpick is that it was noon on a weekday and the place was pretty empty and we had a reservation and it still took over 15 mins to get our table. The service is always so incredible here. They handled our 15 party table so perfectly. I'm so happy I caved and got the cinnamon rolls today. It arrived before any of the food and was a bit surgery to be the start of my meal, but it was so good I didn't really care. The toasted almonds really tied everything together. Last night, we met up with some dear friends for dinner at this wonderful restaurant. The evening turned out to be absolutely fantastic, not only because we were able to spend time with friends we hadn't seen in a while, but also because of the incredibly delicious food. I had the New York strip with the 50/50 potatoes. The smooth potato puree topped with French fries is just a great idea and so delicious. My spouse had the whole roasted branzino, and so did one of our friends. They just loved it. The other friend was having filet mignon with mac and cheese, and he certainly was happy about his food. The chefs there are true masters of their art. What truly made the evening special, however, was our server and all-around incredible human being, Jonah. Personally, I have never had the pleasure of meeting such an unforgettable employee at any business. Jonah is a shining example of what outstanding customer service is all about. His incredible charm, warm personality, extensive knowledge of the menu, and the way he interacted with us were truly exceptional. He made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and had a unique ability to make us laugh while instantly making us feel comfortable in his presence. I went to Castaway tonight, and Jason was our server. Honestly, his personality shined even more than the dishes. He was incredibly attentive, informative, and genuine. He never skipped a beat with recommendations, but they never felt like forced upsells. Every suggestion seemed like it was truly the best choice for our party of eight. He even took extra care of my pregnant friend, making thoughtful recommendations and accommodations to ensure everything was safe and enjoyable for her. That level of attention really stood out. I've ate many restaurants and NEVER had that level of service. I also want to recognize the manager, whose name I unfortunately didn't catch. At the end of the night, he took our photo. There wasn't a second of hesitation, just a smile and a quick, "Of course!" You could tell he was a strong leader who leads by example, not the type to stand back and simply tell everyone else what to do. That kind of leadership says a lot about a restaurant. As for the food, the Porterhouse was amazing. The Tomahawk was a little fattier than I usually prefer (which is why I normally pass on it), but it was still very good. The meal began with a complimentary cornbread, which was already dense and seasoned, so I didn't feel the bread needed the extra flavoring of special butter and salt. Venue was lovely and super busy with several events going on but valet parking was quick. We had an early dinner after a show at the Pantages. 5:30 meant the sun was directly shining on the patio so seating was tricky trying to avoid the direct sun so next time we would go a little later as by 6PM it had moved enough. The only other meh was the tables for two on the patio are tiny and we are not larger people; also it was spaced tight to the tables next to it but we did move it out a bit more 9several inches) and made it work. Patio was much less noisy than the inside and music was a bit loud but since we were so close to each other other it worked except the table we were next to were trying to talk louder than the music so we were a part of that conversation. Our server was amazing and was knowledgeable about the food and wine. When our French Soup toast was brought out by a runner who didn't pour the accompanying sauce around it our server was aghast and quickly poured the sauce which made it delicious. The calamari appetizer was crisp and delicious with fried peppers and a hot sauce remoulade. The cheese cornbread is sooo good. Our cocktails were fresh and perfect. The wine list is substantial and not overly priced. We had the whole roasted branzino with a mash and fennel/arugula salad and the Zinfandel braised short rib over a garlic cream corn. Both were delicious and not overly salted. We ended with the Espresso lava cake and it was perfect with the cookies/cream ice cream and chocolate wafer dust. I am not a dessert person but ate my portion and wanted more. All staff were impressive and coordinated. We will definitely go back but maybe not on a busy Saturday evening. Even though we had $40 of gift cards, with tip and tax, the meal was still somehow $80 + an unavoidable $11 valet. Came here for a one week late mothers day brunch with my family. I specifically spent the extra money to be seated in the vista terrace, and let me tell you, if you are planning to visit, this is an absolute must! From my viewpoint, I was able to see most of Burbank, parts of Glendale and the Downtown LA skyline! As for the ambiance, I really like the interior design of the inside, but it was nothing compared to the view outside. The service was just okay. The napkins we got were a bit dirty and I never got any refills on my water. The food was, again, just okay. The seafood tower was good but it smelled incredibly fishy. He was so sweet and kind to our entire table, but especially to my daughter, and that meant so much to me as a mom. I've been to Castaway several times- for a wedding, brunch, and dinner. My very first visit? The views absolutely wowed me. Honestly, the views are the main reason I keep coming back. This used to be my favorite brunch spot. Bottomless mimosas, solid brunch options, unbeatable views. It was a win all around for ya girl. But I recently went for brunch (2/22/26), and the menu has changed. My go-to order has always been the Hangover Hash, Chicken & Waffles, and the French toast. They still have the Hangover Hash and Chicken & Waffles, but the French toast is completely different now. It used to come with cognac-roasted golden apples, Nutella, and cinnamon-spiced maple syrup (chef's kiss). Now it's the "Berry Boujee French Toast" with strawberry & cherry blossom cream and brûléed lemon custard. I ordered the Hangover Hash this last visit and it came out lukewarm. The roasted potatoes were hard and dry. It just wasn't the quality I remembered. What happened, Castaway? New chefs? Because this isn't the same place I used to rave about and recommend as a top-tier brunch spot. They also changed the mimosa flavors. I really miss the lavender activated charcoal, fresh cucumber mint, and pineapple jalapeño mimosas. The current flavors just aren't giving what they used to give. Service was also a little lacking this time. Maybe it was an off day? I'm not sure. Will I come back? I want to because those views are still amazing. We had a reservation at Castaway Burbank and specifically requested better seating in advance, but despite many empty tables available, we were placed all the way in a corner with one of the worst views in the restaurant. When we politely asked if we could move, the staff refused, yet somehow had no problem trying to upsell us to "premium seating," which looked no different and felt like a money grab. For a restaurant charging premium prices, the food was only average and definitely did not justify the cost. The bigger issue was the customer service. It felt like the focus was on extracting more money rather than creating a good dining experience. A restaurant with great views should know that seating is part of what customers are paying for, especially when reservations and special requests are made ahead of time. Left feeling disappointed, overcharged, and treated like an afterthought. There are plenty of places with better service and better value. I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

Amazing amazing amazing!! Chose this place because of the views but the food and drinks were so amazing! For food we got the New York strip and caviar frites, both incredible. I can't remember the drinks but they have photos on the menu. The music was also a 10/10. Customer service was amazing as well, thank you to our server Kierra who made it more enjoyable. We had such a fun time! It was our first visit. The El Mariachi was so fun as well as delicious. The view was spectacular. But, honestly, our server made the entire night. Jonah has an outstanding personality and was so warm and professional. The speed at which the drink came out was unlike anything I've ever experienced. Jonah took our order and it was under 5 min when our drinks appeared. When we ordered a 2nd round, the drinks came while Jonah was still at our table. We had a cheese board that was great. And then we got the miso butterfish and swordfish. They were amazing. I left nothing on the plate. We also had the French onion toast. I would not get this again. My second drink was the Shiso Vain. It was ok, but I wouldn't get that one again either. It was such a great evening. We went all out so it wasn't cheap, but we'll definitely be back! read more

My cousin and niece are visiting from Sydney so we have been going places together and Castaway was a must. I have been here many times over the years but somehow never wrote a review on it. We came for lunch on a Monday and it wasn't busy. The hostess wasn't welcoming or friendly. It felt like she didn't want to be at work. Her attitude was unpleasant. Anyways let's move on .... Our waiter made up for it cause he was super helpful and attentive and friendly .... The ambiance here is beautiful. The view is breathtaking. On a clear da you can see the whole city and the mountains all around. The food is good. The brussel sprouts were amazing. Sooo good. My niece loved the burger she ordered and my cousin enjoyed her mushroom pappardelle. I ordered the steak and frites. It was ok. Will I order it again ? Fantastic experience and the only downside was the bathroom conditions. Pretty filthy but they had a prom even this night. Our server was fantastic and helped us negotiate our meal. We started with the wagyu salt brick. It was a great way for us to sample this without going full in. Paired with the sprouts and tuna tatare, it was awesome.
