She disappears FOREVER. Seems like she's the only server I've ever had there and that sucks because she really does the least she can do. She should really have her hair in a bun and more secured. Is she out back smoking most of her shift? Girl get it together and be more personable with your guests. Check on them, see if the food is good? Give us refills? Come on.......Some of the booths are really uncomfortable, with weird abnormally overstuffed cushions that lean back awkwardly. The vibe is unique but cool.. they have 2 seating areas, I will say my favorite area is by the bar. For lunch my friend and I got hot sandwiches with fries on the side with a side of house ranch. I got the fried chicken sandwich with chipotle aïoli sauce, cheese and tomato. My friend got the steak sandwich with arugula and provolone cheese, and their Diet Coke was very refreshing. If I lived in the area, I'd definitely frequent this place - at least for breakfast because there aren't too many options in the immediate vicinity where I live. 1. This place has parking. Knew when to swing by to check up on us as he likely picked up on us just hanging out casually - talking more than taking bites. 3. The food was solid. I ordered an all meat omelet and with hash browns and sour dough (toast). See pic - there's a toaster on the table so if it's burnt, that's on you. Omelet was savory and I liked that it was served under seasoned (salt and pepper) which allowed me to add to my taste. Every bite has meat and cheese - see pic - served fresh so you would have seen cheese pulls if I took shots like that. Definitely something I'd order again. Call me weird but I liked the design of the place. Different tables. Different chairs. Booths and tables leaving an open dining area. Windows for natural light and a separate bar area - looked to be a full bar too. TV's to watch sporting events. I didn't scrutinize it - but I saw a Happy Hour menu. Score! First off, I can't breathe because I ate so much. lol My server was Brooklyn (hope I spelled that right) but she was absolutely amazing. I was debating on a burger or a stack of pancakes with eggs bacon and hash browns and she told me to go with the pancakes. I'm so glad she suggested it bc these are by far the best pancakes in La Canada and the Foothills. Super soft, fluffy, huge, and delicious. Hash browns and bacon was great as well. The Dish is a wonderful place for any meal. With active toasters on the booth tables it reminds one to order a many bread items as possible when 'Dish-ing' for breakfast. I recommend the Chicken Piccata but substitute the mashed potatoes with linguini or the excellent Patty Melt sandwich served with humungous onion rings. The Salmon Wrap is also very amazing as it is perfect if one doesn't want to feel stuffed after eating and when paired either with a salad or sliced tomatoes its a perfect balance for one to 'feel healthier' The Green Garden salad that can be chopped upon request is a phenomenal and more healthy option and paired perfectly with an ice tea for lunch. read more

I explain that if I even try to eat uncooked eggs I will throw up and I'd rather spare myself - and everyone in the restaurant that experience. The Jonny cakes were dark brown on the outside - dense and still doughy on the inside. I tried to eat them - got through half of one and had to stop. The ham was good - thick cut, flavorful. I went to a really fun dinner here with friends. This restaurant is big and spacious and not too loud to hear your friends talk. I loved that aspect of it. I was not, however, impressed with the food. The mashed potatoes that came with my meal were cold and tasted a bit undercooked. And everything else on the plate was very underwhelming. It was also frustrating that when my friend paid her tab in cash, the waiter just assumed that he could keep the difference between the bill and what she gave him. She was not trying to tip him $18 on a $42 tab. She actually had to ask him for her change back and then give him his 20% cash tip. The tipping culture is out of control and no waiter should ever assume that all the cash given to pay a bill is theirs to keep. Especially now that the minimum wage for waiters has been raised to $16.50 an hour. Would I go back? Sure, I might give it another try if I was in the area. I don't live locally so that's probably not going to happen, but I would give it another try. read more

Not familiar with the area, we got a recommendation for this place from someone at Descanso Gardens. We were pleasantly surprised with the warm welcome we received as we entered a very unique looking almost ranch house like interior. We come here regularly for happy hour/dinner. We love the fireplace. Jesse is always great and we love the casual vibe. Whomever comes up with the seasonal drinks does a great job. Very delicious. The food is fine; they have a great burger, short ribs and soups. Breakfast is also pretty good. Love the toasters on the tables. It's been around for a long time and it would be nice to see a little touch-up, starting with the women's restroom, which has a terrible smell. Try the patty melt and tuna melt. The omelettes are great, as are the chicken wings. Great onion rings, too. One big complaint: they have the worst smelling restaurant bathroom. I don't understand why they don't fix it. It smells like a latrine. For a place in such an upscale neighborhood, you'd think they would fork over the cash to update their plumbing or whatever it is that's causing the issue. We had a good experience at dish after a visit to Descanso Gardens. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the food was good enough. It's a large restaurant, so even though it was packed and Mother's Day, we were seated fairly quickly without a reservation. The coffee was good enough could've been a little bit stronger. (Full disclosure I need to super strong coffee to live.) My kid wasn't that friendly and just had fries what she thought were good enough. I had the Florentine Quiche (though our server miss heard me initially and brought Florentine Benedict to start. That was quickly replaced with what I had asked for) the quiche was perfectly prepared. Nice and fluffy key should be. Potatoes on the side. Could've used a little bit more seasoning did the job the potatoes are supposed to do. My wife had a Florentine Benedict without the English muffin as she is gluten-free. She thought it was good, but would've appreciated more gluten-free bread options. I've returned here now a few times and we just love the breakfast selections. The vibe is country style mixed diner and enjoy that some tables have a toaster on it. The service always seems to be lagged here but the food does come out fast once it's ordered. I think they may be understaffed or the place is just too big to get through, but besides that the food and selections make up for that.
