First off, I can't breathe because I ate so much. lol My server was Brooklyn (hope I spelled that right) but she was absolutely amazing. I was debating on a burger or a stack of pancakes with eggs bacon and hash browns and she told me to go with the pancakes. I'm so glad she suggested it bc these are by far the best pancakes in La Canada and the Foothills. Super soft, fluffy, huge, and delicious. Hash browns and bacon was great as well. They serve brunch every day til 2pm. Brooklyn is the absolute best.

Dropped in for breakfast with friends and had a great meal and a great time catching up. If I lived in the area, I'd definitely frequent this place - at least for breakfast because there aren't too many options in the immediate vicinity where I live. 1. This place has parking. And free too. No meters, or attendants - just their own self parking lot. 2. Service was great. The server's timing seemed to be spot on. Knew when to swing by to check up on us as he likely picked up on us just hanging out casually - talking more than taking bites. 3. The food was solid. I ordered an all meat omelet and with hash browns and sour dough (toast). See pic - there's a toaster on the table so if it's burnt, that's on you. Omelet was savory and I liked that it was served under seasoned (salt and pepper) which allowed me to add to my taste. Every bite has meat and cheese - see pic - served fresh so you would have seen cheese pulls if I took shots like that. Definitely something I'd order again. Call me weird but I liked the design of the place. Different tables. Different chairs. Booths and tables leaving an open dining area. Windows for natural light and a separate bar area - looked to be a full bar too. TV's to watch sporting events. I didn't scrutinize it - but I saw a Happy Hour menu. Score! Said it before - will say it again. If this wasn't so far for me, I'd definitely be a regular. Don't be surprised though - if you see check ins or pics of me dropping in for dinner and or Happy Hour.

Great salads for lunch and often have specials too . Sweet waitress and nice staff. Lots of tables and sat right down and got our drinks quickly. Parking easy and if you need anything to add they get it right away.

The Dish is a wonderful place for any meal. With active toasters on the booth tables it reminds one to order a many bread items as possible when 'Dish-ing' for breakfast. I recommend the Chicken Piccata but substitute the mashed potatoes with linguini or the excellent Patty Melt sandwich served with humungous onion rings. The Salmon Wrap is also very amazing as it is perfect if one doesn't want to feel stuffed after eating and when paired either with a salad or sliced tomatoes its a perfect balance for one to 'feel healthier' The Green Garden salad that can be chopped upon request is a phenomenal and more healthy option and paired perfectly with an ice tea for lunch.

I'm obsessed with the fireplace in the bar area. I may just take my blanket next time and nap there after my 876 drinks and basket of mozzarella sticks amazing coma. Jesse is awesome and super friendly.

It's so rare to see split pea soup on a menu. The soup at Dish really hit the spot. The grilled cheese was also delicious. Mom's salad was gorgeous. The staff was welcoming and delightful. We were sat in the bar area. It was okay. A little dark. The main dining room was adorable.

Restaurant feels cozy. Waitstaff is very attentive and nice. Plenty of parking in the lot. Garlic cheese bread apps are yummy. Plenty of marinara sauce to go with each bread. Steak and egg has 10oz steak; good value. Cooked perfectly as ordered. Breakfast sandwich is pretty good too. Thick fillings in a nice toasty bread. We all only ordered from the breakfast menu. We didn't try the lunch menu.

Here's the mushroom and spinach omelette with the side order of bacon!

We came here for monthly breakfast with my peer. The restaurant even opened a little earlier than 8 a.m. allowing us to wait for the rest of the party. The service is always warm and attentive here. There is a full menu of all kinds of breakfast. I always order their omelets and they are always great. I also tried their breakfast burrito which is equally delicious. This is a great restaurant and we will always come back for breakfast.

Recommended by Brandon of Descamps Gardens this place does not disappoint! Ambiance: Decor is interesting reminds me of a vintage home with lots of warm decorations somewhat random but gives the welcoming feeling. Service: When I first came in, I just came in to check out the menu but the servers started greeting us like... everyone of them started greeting us it immediately satisfied my first requirement: excellent service. Shout out to Rachel explaining the menu to me and even asking what I ended up ordering and to Shannon a server that my wife and I totally adore. She refilled my tea before I mentioned it, happily brought out every item I requested. Not once did she give any negative vibe when I can be a busy/challenging customer. For the record I didn't get all the names but practically everyone helped, runners asked if we needed anything else... it's honestly quite amazing. But wait there's more! Affordable: My first impression was, location and surrounding area cost of living this place was going to cost a ton... it's extremely reasonable given the current inflation atmosphere, hopefully this changes after the election but can only hope... The portions are quite large and my first time here I really over ordered lol. Food: Sunday Brunch time menu: Ribeye Steak and Eggs - Steak had grill lines tasted like Pinnacle Peak in its prime days, the fries were seasoned battered fries which I liked so much I took the left overs to air fry later, scrambled eggs (no shells in my eggs = chefs that rock it). Ribeye Nachos - I asked for extra chips not soggy thinking I wouldn't like the ones covered in this amazing nacho sauce... I ended up eating the cheese covered chips the whole time. The meat on it was perfect and not dried out, guacamole, pico, and Jalapeños were fresh! Soup - was something with a lemon zest with vegetables and rice, a bit sour but still amazing tasting. Crab cake something egg Benedict's - eggs were huge, creamy sauce although the crab cakes would've been better if cooked a tad longer! Still something I would reorder and ask for the crab cakes to be fried more. The creamy green sauce on it was amazing good. Apple Pie - on the smaller side, but fresh made in house and the spices were good more on the stronger side with a scoop of vanilla ice completes the meal Their menu is different breakfast, lunch, and dinner meaning lots of coming visits even though we live outside the convenience distance. Parking is available on the lot adjacent to the building and possibly on the street but I'm not totally sure, just didn't see much red. I highly recommend this place for its beyond the benchmark service and excellent all in house made food. I only wish I found this place sooner.

Not familiar with the area, we got a recommendation for this place from someone at Descanso Gardens. We were pleasantly surprised with the warm welcome we received as we entered a very unique looking almost ranch house like interior. It's definitely got some age but with it came a good amount of charm. Very happy to see the American flag proudly on display. Shannon was our server and she is the sweetest, happy person. Rachel and the pretty short hair runner were also super friendly and helpful. Everyone had big smiles and obviously love being there. We tried several items and overall really enjoyed it. Steak and eggs - Great steak and large eggs. Hubby got a side of fries and they had a great seasoning coating. Crab cake eggs Benedict special - Huge perfect poached eggs. Loved the large amount of spinach as well. Was a really tasty mush. I think the crab cakes and English muffins needed more crisping you hold up to the delicious pesto? hollandaise Rib-eye nachos - Oh wow! So meaty and such a tasty cheese sauce. The chips were really crisp and fresh too Rice and Vegetable Soup - Too lemony Salad dressings - They make the all in house and have a great variety. Had the citrus lime vinaigrette first but it tasted super metallic and weird so switched it for the green goddess which was amazing! Apple Pie - Desserts made in house too. Delicious crust. A little too much spice for me personally but good Hope we can come by again soon but unfortunately really out of our way.

Steak burnt on the outside and overcooked on the inside

That was pretty bad. My wife and I came for Saturday breakfast. The restaurant was not crowded (so, that can't be used as an excuse). I got the steak (medium rare) and eggs. The steak was burnt on one side and cooked medium well. The seasoning was good, but the cut was not good. I would have sent it back, but the waitress was nowhere to be found My wife ordered an omelette with hash browns. She asked for hot sauce. It never came. The waitress was nowhere to be found. When we needed a refill on our 5 dollar cup of coffee, the waitress was nowhere to be found. Do you see a trend. There appeared to be nobody in charge of the dining room Sad to see a local restaurant fall apart

    Filet of sole
    Rachel C.

Came here today as we needed to be in the LA Cañada area, did some Yelp searching and decided on this place! Parking was ample and building seemed older but fairly welcoming, we went in through the side door, not realizing it wasn't the front, lol. It wasn't too busy, but seemed fairly lively and family-friendly. A fairly extensive menu, with specials, I had a tough time deciding because breakfast was also served till 2pm! But I went with the filet of sole that came with mashed potatoes, garlic spinach and a lemon caper sauce, and it was very yummy! The spinach was a tad bit salty for me, but overall everything was flavorful! My husband ordered the pulled pork burger, and also thought it was tasty. He had it with sweet potato fries and they were quite crispy and quite sweet...wouldn't surprise me they added a bit of honey to it! Staff were friendly, especially our server. Seemed she knew everyone too, definitely a lot of regulars were in today. Not a bad go-to for diner fare with a family-friendly vibe!

I never actually went to Magpie's, maybe once, but that was over a decade ago. I was with friends and finally decided, "You know what, let's give it a shot for Friday early dinner." Everything was really solid. They had a nice bar in the back. Service was quick and good-sized menu, lots of different options. I went for the schnitzel, and I got to say it wasn't bad for a schnitzel in America. I was fairly happy with it. My only real criticism was that the potato salad is pretty bland; there's like no seasoning in it at all, so definitely they could improve that. My wife had the avocado bacon cheese burger, and she loved it. I personally thought her fries were maybe a little too crunchy or a little too overdone or stale, but all in all everything was very solid, and I would come back for a casual dinner.

My chicken enchiladas, which I've enjoyed here before, were completely flavorless. My husband's hard shell tacos were just okay. The only decent dish was my son's fish and chips. If it wasn't for the fajitas I probably would'nt have written this review. I called to complain and they offered a partial refund or a free meal next time. I appreciate the response, but I believe they should refund the fajitas -- I'm willing to bring the food back. Offering a free meal to lure back an unhappy customer doesn't really address the issue. Quality has clearly dropped. We won't be returning.

The Black Cow Cafe has been part of my life since my college years, so when I came here now, it was always filled with nostalgia and a slowed pace over a calming meal. We showed up and the infamous elderly woman with a walker was working the cash register. We asked for a bbq roast beef sandwich with chopped pepperoncini (the menu lists available sides and condiments, this was one). The old woman shook her head no and wagged her finger at us. We tried to push back and request the peppers, and it seemed that she wrote down our specification. We the asked for a Reuben with horseradish added (again, available on the menu). The woman made a disgusted face, wagged her finger in our face again, and told us no. At this point a gentleman from the back let us know that they would be able to accommodate our request, and the woman again appeared to write something down. We ordered a pastrami sandwich, add pickles. Again, finger wag. At this point we were told pickles will come on the side. Ok, understandable. Get me out of here. Ordered two more sandwiches with no specifications because we didn't feel like being berated again. Now the credit card transaction: Woman didn't understand how to handle the transaction, again the gentleman from the back had to explain to her that she can tap the card on the machine. After 20 minutes we received our food with absolutely zero modifications and no explanation. I guess she was faking writing down what we would like. Honestly, the worst part was the sandwiches weren't even great. For such a highly rated place, my entire team was disappointed with our orders. We could've made better at home with a normal amount of effort. Not worth the time, hassle, or attitude. Will not return, and left a bad taste in our mouths for the local businesses. For a town recovering from a disaster, you sure aren't friendly.

Our bartender, Alyssa, was friendly, helpful and so very patient with us as we took some time deciding on a drink. The restaurant is very spacious, clean and welcoming. On our most recent visit we had brunch on a Saturday and we were seated in a timely manor and greeted by Oscar. Oscar was busy with several tables to look after, but he still attended to us and made us feel like we were his only table. He was friendly, and helpful with our questions. We ordered the Philly Steak Sandwich and the Turkey Club Sandwich, both were delicious! Our food arrived quickly, tasted fresh and had plenty leftover. Parking is in the back, there are plenty of spaces but could definitely fill up during peak hours I'm sure. We highly recommend a stop here for any meal as the menu is extensive, has something for everyone and brunch is served until 2pm! Enjoy!

We received a gift certificate to the Montrose Kitchen Grill for Christmas. We were intrigued…read morebecause we had never been there but the person who gave it to us sang their praises. We finally had the opportunity to go there for lunch yesterday and it was indeed fantastic! Such a lovely little place!! The inside would be nice for a cozy dinner but since we were there for lunch we chose to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine and people watch. (Great location for people watching!) The food and service were both great. I ordered the Chicken Caesar Wrap and my husband had the LA Cheesesteak Sandwich. Both were delicious. The wrap was different because it was made with balsamic dressing rather than ranch and had croutons inside which gave it a crunch. The cheesesteak sandwich had nice flavor kick to it. We both had french fries and they were cooked perfectly!! Sooooo good!! We will definitely add this place to our go-to list!!

Tried Town again after not liking it much the first time and had a similar experience this time…read more The positives: Ambiance was nice, service was friendly and efficient, and my husband and friends liked their food OK. (My husband had the steak and mushroom penne, friends had the Chimchurri steak and the wedge salad) The negatives: I had the shrimp risotto and found it blah. The serving was very small - i feel like American portions are often obscenely large (and don't like that), but this was much smaller than average and I was still hungry after eating it. The flavor was ok, but nothing to write home about. And the shrimp were very small - what my husband and I call "bait" shrimp. Not the large shrimp you usually get at a nice restaurant. Since i was still hungry, I ordered a cobbler. It was fine, but not great. Texture was a bit strange - not traditional. Probably won't come back. The food is just not that interesting. It's like the kind of food you'd eat at a Midwestern buffet restaurant.
