Six of us stopped for a meal around noon Sunday. The restaurant was around half full. It was freezing inside. We sat near the thermostat and it was 68. We were seated right away. No one ever came and took our orders. We finally asked someone for help. Our orders were finally taken after 20 minutes. Which was rough with two kids. The food came out fairly quickly and the quality was maybe average at best. Then nobody brought our check. We finally had to ask another server to help get our check. Nobody really ever came over and apologized. And plenty of staff seemed to not have enough to do. I don't know what happened but this was a total fail. read more

The food was decent minus that fact they forgot to put the goat cheese on the salad for both myself and my mother's salad. The service was the best part, but I cannot get past the disgusting bathroom situation. It smelled soooo bad and has not been updated since I was in HS it seems (more than a few decades ago). It says a lot about a restaurant when they ignore the bathroom and miss ingredients on food. It makes you wonder what other shortcuts and lack of attention to detail they are doing. Great local spot for breakfast lunch and dinner. Very friendly staff, we have been coming here as our go to spot for several years. Home vibes snd good food. They have themed nights and always decorate creatively for holidays ! Also great kids menu. Today I have the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and a brioche bun from the dish with a side of onion rings. The pulled pork had plenty of flavor and wasn't over drenched with barbecue sauce, actually I was surprised that it was underdressed with barbecue sauce being the type of person that doesn't care for a lot of barbecue sauce. Next time I'll have to get some barbecue sauce on the side, and the coleslaw was a nice touch with a great crisp and was not overly drenched like coleslaw can be when it's not done well. That being said this coleslaw was done well. And being served on a brioche bun really tops it off. The onion rings were crispy and soft. Soft on the inside crispy on the outside, it was nice that it wasn't so crispy that it tore up the roof of my mouth. But you have to eat it fresh, because they seem to turn pretty soft pretty quickly. read more

January 5, 2023 Things did not work out too good for me at DISH the first time we tried the place. Our initial experience there was extremely disappointing, but after a phone call with the General Manager (Darwin) we decided to give it another try. My fiancé and I arrived and were seated immediately at a cozy table right next the fireplace. Megan was our server, and we were more than pleased. She was attentive, knowledgeable of the menu and very friendly. Our cocktails came quickly and we were set. Next up was our appetizer.....Spinach Dip! It was nice and hot and very flavorful, and the chips were fresh and light. Our entrees arrived in a timely fashion and were delicious! I had the Porterhouse Pork Chop with Brussel Sprouts and Sweet Potato Puree and I was more than pleased. It was cooked to order and was very tender and juicy. My fiancé got the Grilled Pesto Salmon with Asparagus and Wild Rice. She raved about it. All in all, our second visit more than made up for the first. The food and service were absolutely great. I tried to contact the restaurant via email, but they didn't respond so here it goes. We've been here many times and it's usually pretty good we went in a couple of weeks ago. The service was pathetic. I had to go forage for forks and napkins, and they never refilled my water and the waitress only came back at the very end of the meal to ask. How is everything? So the hamburger didn't taste like it normally does either. I don't know maybe just a bad day might try some other places before I go back. read more

Dish serves good, quality comfort food with a California touch, in a modern Farmhouse setting. Parking has expanded through the years, but still can be busy during obvious peak hours. Luckily street parking is not too hard to find, and the electric fuel pump/battery charging station (out front on street level, down the block) make it all the better. Back in town again, my family and I went for brunch- something Dish is known for. The staff was accommodating about seating (leg injury acquires a bit more room), and were correct about which would suit us best. As usual the restaurant appeared bright, clean and cozy (love the fireplace), and their small indoor garden area is simply lovely, and relaxing to look at. Our meal came out in reasonable time, and was delicious. The french toast was thick, pillowy and decadent without it being heavy, and the warm maple syrup was really the perfect touch- especially when it spread to the crispy bacon, and juicy links we additionally ordered. Dish's breakfast vegetable burrito was great too, and executed well. It was not a mish-mash of ingredients just thrown together. The eggs in it were actually fluffy, and the vegetables were cooked to the proper consistency without it being too raw, or overly cooked. Also, Dish's pico is fresh and tasty, without it being salty, or stale. Their home fries (yes, we managed to make room for them) was not an afterthought too. The potatoes were crisp, seasoned appropriately, and the inside texture seems creamier than other home fries we tried (perhaps they use red potatoes?) Dish truly is a neighborhood gem. It's a fantastic place to have a peaceful solitary meal, or congregate with family and friends. Also, significantly there is consistency with this establishment. Overall food, service, and atmosphere have remained in the best ways unchanged. Pricing, I believe is pretty fair for the quality, neighborhood, and times too. Oh, and Dish's 'special food nights' and 'package meals' like for Pasta, BBQ, etc. is definitely something to try as well. They're fun, often hearty, and of course delicious read more

We came back again so here is another review! I tried the meatloaf for the first time and it was amazing! The garlic carrots and mashed potatoes that come with it were exquisite and inspired me to make carrots like this at home. Jesse treats us so well. Always attentive and welcoming. I want to give this Restaurant credit because they're doing everything they can to promote business! They have Cantina Mondays now, they have grilled cheese Thursdays, which has all kinds of amazing grilled cheese sandwiches from basics to short rib to Cuban grilled cheese sandwich to a breakfast grilled cheese sandwich, you get sides with that that are delicious, and they also have the basic happy hour menu going Tuesday through Fridays as well. The time is from 3 PM to 7 PM which I think is a very generous timeframe for a happy hour. read more

Dish is convenient to us, that is why we go. The food is meh. Grilled cheese Sundays was enjoyable but that has gone away. The decor in the dining room is all over the place: country/folk art, black and white movie posters in another room and six American flags in the dining room (plus the one outside). Nice restaurant serving traditional american comfort food with plenty of parking. It feels like eating at someone's house. The restaurant may look small from outside, but it feels spacious inside. I got a burger, added cheese, and upgraded to sweet potato fries. Their sweet potato fries are yummy, light crisp but also not overfried. Their burger consisted of a thick beef patty with the thousand island sauce on the side. Ingredients tastes fresh and everything was delicious. The only downside was the burger brioche bun, it was over toasted and it became dry and hard to eat. I also ordered a strawberry banana smoothie which was refreshing on a hot afternoon. They also serve breakfast plates, salads, sandwiches, and other american comfort food dishes. read more

I have come here a couple of times on separate occasions, have had experience with the breakfast and lunch. A year ago, the food seemed to be okay, not great, but decent...I am not sure what changed in the last year, as we stopped by last weekend for breakfast and the food and customer service was terrible. The food quality/taste is not good, I do not recommend this place for picky eaters. The customer service seems understaffed even though there are a lot of workers walking around. Hopefully I have learned my lesson and won't be back. The food is decent at Dish, but the service has always been lacking. The previous time I was in, I was mischarged. This bothered me. Not enough to say something. (Did I really want to be the customer that quibbled over a few dollars?) But enough that it had been several months before I went back. I was seated and brought an iced tea. (The iced tea vessel needs a deep clean.) When the server came, I asked about the steak burrito. The menu said steak, eggs, cheese, peppers, and onions, served with a side of sour cream and salsa. We talked about adding a side, but since my options were carbs, I declined. When my burrito arrived, it was mostly hash browns. It tastes fine, but I would not have ordered it if I knew this. Or I would have made modifications. I would have liked to have a choice. I was unhappy and my drink was empty. The server stopped by to ask if I loved my burrito. I told her I was not expecting most of it to be potatoes since the menu did not mention it. She darted away without letting me ask for a refill. I saw her study the menu and then walk away. She didn't check in again. I finished my burrito, paid my check, and left. I was not satisfied and stopped somewhere else to complete my meal. The lack of care and attention is really disappointing. read more

Very very kind service and family friendly. The place is fairly clean and the food is delicious. I highly recommend the banana pancakes. I will say other patrons are a mixed bag. I am speaking about this adult father son pair who saw that I was struggling with my stroller and instead of holding the door for me, they ran in to line up because... how stressful it is to line up for a table! This isn't the first time I've met rude patrons but there's nothing for Dish to do about it, I suppose. Just a PSA to other folks who go there--keep thing sweet and be kind to others. Then have a satiating yummy meal and enjoy your day! It's often packed on weekends and rightfully so. I loved coming here with my son! He was able to eat everything on my plate at 1 year old. I was very sad that my first time going to this restaurant was a bad experience all around. My parents brought me there speifically to have a great meal and time. We sat in the lounge area to enjoy happy hour. To start off the server/bartender was not very friendly. There was comments she made that weren't very appreciated. The whole time we were there, the service was slow. We had to wave down the staff to get just water or refills. The server disappeared several times during our time there for awhile each time. The food came out very unpresentable. The wings were over cooked and dry. When we bit into the mozzarella sticks the cheese was missing. The garlic cheese fries barely had any toppings. The head waiter is rude, arrogant and completely lame. Never came back to the table when we asked for numerous items including rolls for the table which he never brought. We ordered a 2nd glass of wine and he came 10 min after we finished dinner and said he forgot. He yelled across the room to different tables and was very condescending. Dish serves good, classic American food. I always get breakfast and it's always solid. The eggs are cooked to perfection, the hash browns are crispy. Highly recommend their Hazelnut Coffee. My friend ordered from the specials menu and was not a big fan of the Crab Cakes unfortunately. The service is always impeccable. It was very busy but the staff was super nice and polite. You know, I always drove past this place but never ventured inside. The place is amazing- like someone's house. Frankie, the host , welcomed me warmly and smiled as he took me to a table. I didn't have to wait long before a nice young man named Blake, asked if I would like some cool liquid refreshment. Surprise me I said . In less than 3 minutes, Jesse, who introduced himself as the resident mixologist, brought me what was known as a Pineapple Express- a delicious whiskey concoction- Amazing! I quickly ordered another.Now I was ready for some good food ! Sonya, my server, suggested I try the chicken piccata-mentioning that the blackened salmon salad was also excellent. I'll have both , I proclaimed!!! Both were incredible ! The chicken was beyond tender with a lemon caper butter sauce made from scratch. The salmon was perfectly cooked- flaky, with just the right amount of spice . She then proceeded to say that I can't leave without trying their homemade key lime ‍ pie . I have friends in La Canada that always want to go here for brunch, but honestly, I am not sure why. I have been here probably 3-4 times. I've tried their Cobb salad, hamburger, and most recently the short rib sandwich. Everything is very bland and average. The short rib sandwich had mustard and cheese on it but was still very bland. I think the bread could have used some sauce / seasoning. Also, the onion rings were way too big and burnt on the outside. Service is attentive and ambiance has a farmhouse feel to it but the food is very average. read more

We had an early breakfast here after driving around looking for a place to eat on Easter before hitting Descanso Gardens. What a treat. Delicious California Eggs Benedict and omelette and their house drip coffee is really a cut or 2 above anything that doesn't come out of an espresso machine. Dish is a definite home away from home. It's such a unique and cozy diner. You won't find many diners like this. It's the place where you immediately feel comfortable and welcomed. I remember coming here during the pandemic and sitting on the patio and Martin was constantly there checking on us and refilling our water. Over the years it's been a go to place and I've gotten to know everyone and they are all so warm and friendly and inviting. This is one place where I try many different things on the menu (I'm usually the type to find that thing I like and stick to it), but here everything is good and whenever there are specials they are especially good.
