I was craving a baja fish taco and decided to give this nearby location a try based on recommendations from other Yelpers in the area. First of all, ordering online was a BREEZE. You can customize your order with just a few clicks, like ordering your taco with extra cilantro, or choosing light onion or extra onion. Then you just use Apple Pay so you don't need to re-enter your card information and you know it's secure. The fish taco was a bit more expensive than I expected it might be, but the size was appropriate and it tasted great! I will return, and I would recommend. I was in a bit of a hurry, so I placed my order for pickup. The staff was friendly, service was very good, and my food was ready at the appointed time. I've been coming to Tortas Mexico for like 25 years. Back in the old days when they were up on foothill a friend of mine from Mexico told me it was the most authentic food in the area and he introduced me to their carne asada torta. That was all I ordered there for years when I would come occasionally. After they moved to their current location and had more of a restaurant vibe my wife started ordering their Caldo de Pollo, which is excellent. We've kind of gone on and off our frequency of coming here over the years but recently we've been coming back a lot and the thing that stands out to me is what a variety they have on their menu. In the last couple months we've been coming once a week and I've not ordered the same thing twice and everything I've had has been ranging from very good to excellent. Once our appetites grew, we knew we had to head to one our favorite spots in Montrose for Mexican food, Tortas Mexico. Nestled in the heart of Montrose, Tortas Mexico is a hidden gem, unassuming, but a place that promises you a culinary journey through the vibrant flavors of Mexico. To start the fiesta, I indulged in one of my favorites, the Shrimp Cocktail, a refreshing and zesty appetizer of shrimp swimming in a tangy tomato-based cocktail sauce, accented with fresh avocado, cilantro, and a hint of lime. Wow! Delicious! Each bite was a burst of freshness that awakened my taste buds and left me craving more. ¡Sabroso! Next up were the Enchiladas, a classic Mexican comfort food that did not disappoint. We also ordered the Chicken Tacos and Carne Tacos. They were a true fiesta for the taste buds. This review is over due. I don't go in too often but when I do I get either a breakfast burrito or nachos. The nachos come with guacamole, sour cream and jalapeños. I love the area. There is tons of parking. The staff are friendly just one thing I'm not comfortable with doing is leaving any cash tip on a table at a fast food restaurant. There is a credit card option for tip when you first pay or a jar up front but the cashiers suggest to leave it at a table which is a bit unprofessional and they're kinda pushy about telling me before even receiving any service first. She kinda made it sound like it was an obligation to tip. Love the food but don't like feeling uncomfortable. There is always order for pick up though. read more

Sifting through the positive review an Al Pastor burrito seemed to be a solid bet. A good sized blend of Al Pastor, pinto bean and Mexican rice. I squeezed my lines and added red, orange and green sauces. All were a delight. Although it did not appear that big I'm stuffed right now as I type nearly an hour later. The Al pastor quality was not too spicy, not dry, not mid, good enough yo get the job done. Word on the street is that it's $10.99, a solid deal for the portion. Got charged for my meal and received a text confirmation telling us our order was ready, only for us to show up at the restaurant and have staff tell us our order was cancelled and they were closed, yet the restaurant seemed to be open. We have supported this restaurant prior to the pandemic, through it and we continue to dine here regularly. The service is consistently good and everyone is friendly and pleasant. We came here last weekend and both ordered soup, my wife had the chicken and I had beef. Both were delicious and just as good as we had a year ago. I have had some of the best tortas in the cheapest places. I did not hesitate to try this one but heavily regretted it afterwards. It lacked about everything that one could potentially hope for, taste, juiciness, freshness. The chicken torta in general and the chicken specifically were dry, the grilling oil must've been antique or at least it smelled like that, and there was simply nothing pleasurable about the whole thing. After and invigorating hike in the Angeles National forest (and probably getting Lyme) my NYC friend, (Charlie) and i were starving. Thinking about it: we got it down to the Grille (a Carbo-licious Waffle) or here which is a lot closer to us at the time. Plus a big bowl of hot Caldo de Pollo sounded pretty nice as it was actually raining this AM and we were cold and slightly wet. In any event we came to Tortas Mexico today as my former experience was mostly positive. We ordered: An order of Nachos (of course!) Coffee A Bohemia Bowls of Caldo de Pollo (Chicken soup) We devoured the free small bowl of Chips in about a minute. So we were ready for the Nachos and Soup pretty quickly. Service was quick, personable and friendly. They serve on porcelain dinnerware but hand out plastic flatware. The Salsa bar is limited but the "Hot" salsa is indeed spicy. Iced Tea and water is self service. You order at the counter and the food is brought to your table with a smile. The Nachos at first glance look sinful which is as it should be. I ordered the Nachos w/o meat but with pickled Jalapenos, beans, sour cream and Guacamole. As we ate this dish towards the bottom, it became more like chilaquiles in that it was slushy with over-portioning of saucey beans. Yet this did not disqualify the dish from being good. It just took it someplace else. Tortas Mexico is also not stingy with the cheese or sour cream of Guac. Though this version of Nachos was good and Charles practically licked the plate, i prefer mine drier. I will order this next time w/o beans so as to do away with the slush. ( or i could order chips with cheese melted on them and all the condiments on the side: which will drive them crazy!!) The Coffee is barely ok. Too much water to coffee bean ration. Yes i know i have written this a 100 times but if it is happening i must point it out. The Bohemia is as usual delicious: malty, hoppy dark cherry-ish. An excellent bottle of beer to accompany this kind of meal. The Caldo is average as the broth barely tastes of anything but salt. TM also could add more veggies and chicken and is both Fideo and potatoes ever correct? A disappointment. I like this place but their menu tries to do too much but not to have a good bowl of Chicken Caldo is a major flaw in my book. (They also serve Posole and Menudo and a beef based Caldo.) Place was empty except for one couple there. That's not a good sign. Anyways the food was mediocre no taste. I was happy at least the cut of meat didn't have fat on it. The taquitos were so dry. Felt like I was in the dessert. I had to put salsa all over it just to taste it. The salsa section is non existent. The meat was very tasty, I added sour cream and it was good and moist. The pupusa was 100/10! It was freshly made and it was so damn good! Good quality food. If I can give this place zero stars, I would! I ordered a carnitas torta and a green drink (freshly juiced fruits). The food is tasteless and dry, and the drink was 75% foam.
