This little gem has been here for over 50 years and still makes the best deli sandwiches and also great soup. Today their signature soup Tomato Bisque was what my 90 year old mom ordered and said it was delicious !!! I got a roast beef delicious sandwich and chips and a starry drink..so big ans fresh i could only eat half. Also had a dessert. They have a freezer with a lot of frozen ice cream bars and such. Ao delicious. Their staff have been there for years and know all customers and are very friendly. The owner an elderly lady, is often sitting inside and enjoying seeing her customers happy..

My hiusband has been coming to Berge's since he was a kid. This family owned restaurant had been open since 1971. The restaurant is cute and decorated with nostalgia over the years. Service is counter service and the bring the food to your table. We got our food rather quickly. I had the avocado and turkey sandwich and a side of potato salad. My husband got the grilled roast beef sandwich in sourdough and tomato basil garlic bisque. All were delicious!

Took me awhile to try this spot out. It's a local spot known for their sandwiches and tomato soup. It's actually pretty good. Everything seemed fresh. But nothing really stood out to me.

Classic local favorite sandwich shop with the same comfortable throwback vibe as when it first came to the scene in 1972! I had the honor of having my order taken by the original patriarch at the counter, and she even asked if I needed a receipt. There's a reason Berge's has been around for over 50 years and the food did not disappoint. Enjoyed the classic tuna melt with grilled sour dough and my friend had the roast beef. The tomato bisque was also excellent. Some comfortable seating in a classic weathered venue. A great treat following our Angeles forest hike to the falls.

Found from glowing reviews on yelp so I came here mid visit to Descanso gardens. The shop was super simple, there is parking in the back and the door was open so you don't have to walk around and enter from the front. Toasted pastrami sandwich - So good. They weigh out the pastrami and give it a good sear before throwing it on the sandwich. You get so much more flavour from doing that. The bread was toasted well and every was so good together! Would recommend! Avo roast beef sandwich - Slightly different from their famous avocado turkey sando. Avocado was super refreshing and they had the right amount of mayo to keep the flavours together. Roast beef stuck out a bit, so I would probably go back to the turkey to keep the balance.

Berge's is old-school in the best way. Wood paneling, cozy vibe, nothing fancy.Just solid sandwiches done right. I tried the grilled artichoke sandwich (on what I think was buttery sourdough) and it was crispy, gooey, flavorful, and it even held up after I took it to the park to eat. The grilled artichokes were soft and tasty, the cheese melted just right, and paired with jalapeño chips it was the perfect $10 lunch. What really stood out though was the service. nstead of just calling my name, they walked over and personally handed me my order. A small detail, but honestly you don't see that much anymore and it made the experience feel that much better. Definitely a spot worth stopping into if you're in La Cañada.

Was really looking forward to this place after the positive reviews, unfortunately what I ordered, I was not impressed. Granted, I didn't get what was most recommended, but based off of that sandwich, I probably will not be going back. First of all, the most recommended sandwich is their pastrami, and I happen to get their French dip. I am a sucker for a great French dip, and unfortunately, this would do not live up to my expectations. And when I say it did not meet up to my expectations, I don't mean that I'm being a snob, I mean the "Au Jus" was incredibly salty. I'm sure this was a one off, but unfortunately, I happen to get it. I'm not saying that I would never go back, yelp hasn't let me down. So I would definitely consider going back here again, unfortunately I don't live close to this area so the likelihood of that happening is very slim. Overall, without the dip, the sandwich was really good. Now I wish I would've ordered the pastrami so I could give a better review in my opinion since that's what most people talk about, but unfortunately, I happen to choose this dish and I wish that I chose pastrami instead.

My favorite hands down is the butter cheese which is packed in the refrigerated case, sliced and ready to go. That cheese with pumpernickel bread (which they also offer) is so comforting. There are multiple types of salami, with the German style being my favorite. I really enjoyed the imported caraway crackers which was a lighter alternative to the more solid breads. So I decided on the squares cause I love those slices! I went with Pepperoni Grandma and a Pepperoni Honey DeNiro. The staff will heat it up for you on the oven and even cut slices in half to enjoy them. I loved the flavors and the crisp edges. It had a great crunch in each bite and taste was solid. It came with plenty of dressing cups too. Cons: - Sandwich bread was unfortunately fairly flavorless. - Oddly there are no prices on almost anything in the store, including the food menu. Their printed menu has prices, but they've all been unceremoniously crossed out in Sharpie, with no updated prices posted. You'll find out the total when you tell the cashier what you ordered, but it's unusual compared to most places. - The bacon on the Hawaiian pizza is crumbles which somehow dominate the flavor of the pizza. I would get it with no bacon. - We bought a box of the house made pita chips in "BBQ" flavor, but they didn't taste like BBQ at all; they had a fishy taste and were basically unsalted. I think they put the wrong seasoning on there. They cost $11 too, I think, since they too had no prices listed anywhere. - The retail space is strange too as most shelves have empty spaces. - The food service (deli) hours are shorter than the market hours, so check before you come to order food. - They have an ATM in the lobby but it doesn't connect to the network so it just holds on to your card for 3 minutes until it times out.
