Schreiner's is such a neighborhood gem and institution. They are a deli with all types of delicacies and a full meat counter. The prepared sandwiches and other food sound wonderful. It is extremely clean and does not smell like a typical meat counter. The selection of smoked and cured meats as well as sausages is impressive. I used to go to Alpine Village before it closed, and this shop provides similar German style products. The service is great. They answer your questions and provide great recommendations. My favorite hands down is the butter cheese which is packed in the refrigerated case, sliced and ready to go. That cheese with pumpernickel bread (which they also offer) is so comforting. There are multiple types of salami, with the German style being my favorite. I really enjoyed the imported caraway crackers which was a lighter alternative to the more solid breads. Schreiner's used to hold a strong tradition and a wonderful practice of kindness and hospitality that went a long way... long enough to get the small and quaint establishment up to this point. And I was pleased to get to experience Schreiner's for a good 14 or so years up until now. But my visit yesterday with my son was the soul crushing final visit. Schreiner's has a new staff of younger people, many of whom exhibit an unfortunate lack of hospitality, and for an establishment that serves sandwiches and deli meats, if kindness and gratitude for your loyal guests is not enough for you to manage from your position with such a once great establishment, then you my young friends are without a doubt not cut out to be in the food service industry. I give Schreiner's a few years before they are shut down if this new staff has any say. read more

I used to love going there because every employee made you feel so welcome with their warm smiles. The food is exactly what I grew up with in Europe, so I was always in heaven. I recently returned after a year away (May 2026), and I was shocked. The new employees were incredibly rude. There was no sense of hospitality whatsoever: no smiles, no warmth, and not even basic politeness. The cashier, for example, a young woman in her early twenties, could benefit from serious customer service training. I left with my favorite foods, but also feeling very disappointed and upset. The cold cuts are excellent as is the butcher section and their selection of cheese. Unfortunately I cannot recommend the sandwiches. Today my son and I had stale French rolls with a miserly portion of corned beef and tritip. I was very disappointed. Love the snappy skinned hot dogs. That's pretty much all I buy there to be honest. Only one time tho I didn't notice and when I got them home realized they were dried out. I ordered a polish dog from there that hit the spot, their condiment choices are traditional: sauerkraut, mustard, etc. no onions however. 10/10 will go back to stock up on knackwursts, traditional dogs, and brats. We've visited Schreiner's for many years, its deli meats used to be authentic german tasting, however, I could "taste" the decline of its traditionell cuts from year to year...the names are the same as in Germany, the taste has taken a typical trend towards american taste, super salty, watery, changed processing to cheaper, faster, products To put it into perspective, I have a butcher degree from Germany and was heavily involved in sausage making, therefore I cannot recommend Schreiner's as a place that sells "authentic" german cold cuts. read more

I've been coming to Schreiner's Fine Sausages in Montrose for 4 decades, introduced to it by my stepfather who would bring us pastrami with swiss cheese on Saturdays. The staff can be friendly and knowledgeable, though every once in a while, you get a bit of that classic cold German service. It's a great deli with excellent food finds--especially the European candies/sweets. Their sandwiches are always delicious, and they have a solid selection of soft drinks and beer. Always a reliable spot for quality eats and unique snacks! It's on my regular rotation for when I get a crazing for a great pastrami with swiss cheese on a roll. read more

Anyway it was my last time bothering with that place as they dont have anything authentic German to really go there for. This is a hidden gem! They are a butcher shop/market/sandwich bar. Butcher shop - They have really high quality meats, and are suppliers for some LA restaurants. We have purchased steaks, chicken and sausages for grilling at home and always been happy. Market - They have tons of crazy imported European items. I see cookies and candy that my grandparents used to have in their home. At Christmas they have tons of good holiday stuff. Sandwich bar - they have simple, good quality sandwiches that are cheap. Our favorite deli in the area for 15+ years. My dad used to bring me here often for a sandwich made at their back counter. Still hits the spot to this day, though I will say they're a bit smaller in size than they used to be for a higher price, which I don't love. That's what the sandwiches used to cost a few months ago. Now they're $10-$12 with the SAME two slices of meat... I got the BBQ brisket and paid $11.89, thinking I was charged for two. I definitely would order that again next time. I bought some cookies, chips, and chocolate candies for my house. I almost bought shampoo but this place is definitely not safe. I nearly cut my finger on the glass shelf they have near the men's shampoo section. I kept looking at my finger while I was browsing the store and decided to skip the shampoo after all that trouble. I wish they had more German products that were in German and not German products that are in English text. I prefer to buy foreign products in other languages as a variety of products I allow in my house. Again I'm being very generous with my 2 stars because I I really enjoyed the bbq tri tip & potato salad. They lost the other 3 stars for not being friendly at all. I came across their cute little establishment today as I was searching for a place to have lunch. It's a nice shop that sells meats, candies and sandwiches! I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and was super disappointed! The sandwich was soaked in Mayo and mustard and I could not even taste the chicken salad!! Yuck! Worst Service EVER!!!! "Closing" at 4:45pm when it says they close @5:30pm online?? They refused to serve us as we rushed in. When I was shocked and disappointed they couldn't help me with my over $100 order, the cashier just said, "I guess you're having a bad day." Are you freaking kidding me?? So RUDE!!! They blamed their early closing on the owner. And that he will be upset at them for not leaving at 5p. Seriously?? We came to the area last week to visit the bakery next door and unfortunately couldn't go to Schreiner's because they didn't open until 10 AM. So this week we planned to go there after a trip to Huntington Library. The assortment of meats were very impressive and we left with a pound of bacon and a pound of smoked sausage, partly because there was so much to choose from it was a difficult decision. Those items were on the list of items that we definitely wanted to try and we ended up cooking all the sausages that night for dinner...delicious. Believe it or not, I have been coming to Schreiners for over 70 years, ever since I was a little tyke. They used to hand me a slice of lunch meat over-the-counter. My favorite item is their liverwurst. I love a sandwich with it. Their housemade sausages are also delicious.
