This place should be five stars for the quality of seasoning/marinade they put on their meat. But just this week when I went in there, not one of the employees were wearing a mask properly. By far the best place to get either fresh un-marinated or marinated Armenian/Persian style BBQ meat in Glendale. The one thing I can always count on is their meat being fresh and consistently tasty. Furthermore, their prices on average are equal or less than comparable meat shops around, so you get great meat at reasonable prices. Keep in mind that they have been in business for a while now and they even opened a second location in Glendale, but this one is the original and best in my opinion. I recommend you try their marinated lamb luleh kabob among other marinated meats. The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is because they close early on Sundays (5:30) and being of middle eastern decent, you know bbq for us is a spur of the moment thing. I wish I can give this place unlimited amount of stars. By far the best meat market I have ever came across. I remember growing up walking into a meat market as soon as you walk through the door the smell of settled meat and fish would slap you in the face. When you walk in to Sevan meat market the feeling in the air is just freshness. So clean and very eye pleasingly organized. Now on to the best part, the meat and fish and anything you can purchase from this market is of the highest quality, freshness, and of course TASTE. Last Sunday we got $90.00 worth of meat from this place. We have always bought from them Shish Kabob, Luke Kabob and Chicken Kabab. This time the ground beef was anything but beef. It was mostly fat, cartilage or skin and heavily disguised by turmeric. It was very greasy it burned on the barbecue and was rubbery and had no taste. Everyone in the family remarked that it was not good even children. I wanted to call them and ask them what was in the mixture resembling ground beef but my husband and son said not to bother if that's the way they make their Lule kabob they will not change just because I said so. Easily the greatest kabob butcher in Glendale. Having tried myriad meat grocers (Pacific Food, Paradise Pastry, Foothill Food Mart, Dvin, Sipan, and a whole host of Armenian grocers) nothing even comes close. I usually get the marinated beef and lamb, but can vouch for the pork chops, pork fillet, pork ribs (kabob style), mini chicken wings/drums, boneless chicken thigh, lule (beef and chicken) and liver. I've known about this place since November 2005; I refuse to buy kabob meat from anywhere else. Their kabob beats any kabob restaurant I've been to (On the presumption that you cook it right). read more

This has to be by far of the the best markets around for fresh meet for BBQ. The marinate they use is fantastic and the meet is always fresh and full of flavor. The prices are really reasonable for what your getting. The staff is super friendly and they really do help you a lot with smiling faces. I've been shopping from them for a very long time on a regular bases and I've never been disappointed. When we have guests over for bbq, they all enjoy the food as well. No complains! Clean? Yes. "Helpful", well... I came in here after trying 3 other supermarket meat departments to get something simple: beef fat. This was to make tallow for my little girl's California Mission Project (she's making an authentic artifact: a tallow candle). The big smiling guy in charge didn't seem to recognize this - maybe his kids go to a private Armenian school (at these prices, he can afford that). The Jon's market down the road was more friendly, more helpful, and a LOT cheaper. They would've given me the fat for FREE, as they just toss it or someone collects it, but I missed the last cutting and it'd already been thrown away. These guys? "Special deal for you - only $2 a pound!" Hey, isn't that great? Would've charged me $3 a pound for garbage, but only charged me 2! The meats at Jon's looked just as good, just as fresh, and a LOT more reasonable (I used to sell meat, a long time ago, so I can tell). read more

This place is great! I'm not Armenian, or middle eastern, and have never tried cookling kabobs before; except for the pre-skewered kind at a conventional grocery store. The butchers here are so helpful, they showed me how to prepare each of the different types of meat, how to skewer them, cooking time, etc. The price is very reasonable for very fresh meats. The shop also sells all of the accesories you need to make authentic kabobs like skewers and grilling items. They sell pita, side dishes including humus, relishes, and the most delicious yogurt sauce i've ever tasted. I've tried the beef shish kabob, chicken kabob, pork loin, and the ground beef and ground chicken. The ground meats are incredible, the butcher showed me the way to skewer them so they come out like sausage that you get in restaurants. I can't wait to try the ribs, lamb, and pork chops. I can't say enough about this place, i'm addicted to grilling out now and it's a great way to entertain and impress guests. read more

Great butcher! We drive miles out of our way to go to Sevan Meat Market and it is well worth it. First thing you notice is how clean it is compared to most other markets; love the fact that the guys handling the meat don't handle the money, they have one person dedicated to that. It is very well staffed always and I've never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for service. Plenty of parking another bonus. Would recommend anything from this butcher, but LOVE the lule, both chicken and beef!! read more

Came in today, after my armenian friend told him this was the best place to buy kebab style meat. Bought a pound and half of shish beef and half a pound of shish lamb. Also bought eggplant dip and 3 mini skewers. Total came out to 33 something. The meats were both 8.99 p/lb. Beef was very good. Some of the pieces were uneven sizes, but tasted good. Egg plant was good as well, i thought it was a bit over priced, I believe its either 6.50 or 6.99, but thats the price you gotta pay to get home made quality stuff. Everything was about 4.5 stars, but the lamb was bad. I only got to taste the lamb fat, there was very lil meat. I would describe it as 20% bone, 50% fat and 30% meat. Now I'm not here to bash these guys, because i support small business. However next time i drop in, i will ask for pieces with not much fat. If ends up being another fail. I will just stay away from buying lamb and keep continuing buying beef. Btw none of the butchers spoke english, I would describe it as beginner conversation level. I am an Eastern European American citizen and live in the middle of the Armenian neighborhood. I really feel at home with my Armenian neighbors and the culture. Sevan Meat Market is where I buy our meat which is a walking distance. I tried different markets including Golden Farms, Paradise Deli, Jon's (Yuck. That place stinks with weird meat smell upon entry and I don't know why. In the Summer there are even flies landing on food.) Sevan on the other hand, is a family business and they know how to butcher the best cuts with love. It is a very hygienic operation. I really like their beef and lamb lule, veal short ribs, stew meats, all sorts of lamb cuts, pork and delicious chicken. There are other items such as all kinds of mid-eastern salads, caviar, quails, fish and other ethnic delicacy meat parts like lamb's head, tongues, feet, heart, liver etc.. For meat, Sevan is a class above the others without being flashy and trendy, they are consistently good. Golden Farms and Paradise second and Jon's forget about it... Both GF and Paradise have other great offerings though. Sevan is only about meats and marination. And it is really mystery to me how Ralphs on Wilson still maintains to stay open with all the great Armenian food culture who know the quality at affordable prices. Even Jon's have great produce and rarely okay meat too. Anyway, if you want that extra quality safe meat, go to Sevan. read more
