This is a true specialty butcher with an impressive selection, including exotic cuts you don't usually see unless you're going out of your way to find them. If you like cooking or experimenting, this place is a gem. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful--approachable without hovering, knowledgeable without being pushy. You get the sense they actually enjoy talking shop and helping people find what they need. If I had to split hairs, the POS system feels a bit dated, and having one more register open during busy moments would smooth things out. Nothing that ruins the experience, just small operational stuff. Overall, still an easy 4.5-star experience and a place I'm always happy to come back to. read more

Goodness gracious so many different types of animals and sausages! After 10 minutes of staring at all the refrigerated cases and seeing the whole beef carcasses hanging in the back, my head started to reel with the smell of meat. I finally asked where's the tamales, not where's the beef??!! It turns out the tamales were just on the other side of the wall with almost as many veggie options as there were meat choices! I keep saying I'm a vegetarian, but I bought 6 chicken mole, 4 chicken with green sauce, and a bunch of chile cheese, bean and cheese, spinach and cheese! Sooo good with a balanced ratio of masa to filling. They have tamales every Saturday and I think Tuesdays and Thursdays as well. They are only $2.50 each. This review specifically goes out to Eric. Today my nephew and I went into the store in hopes to purchase alligator meat for my German Shepherd who has been suffering from allergies. I was greeted and assisted by Eric, who was very kind and down to earth. I explained to him the reason for my visit and what I was looking for. He gave a few recommendations and even a list of the different types of meats that were sold and their prices. I explained to him that my German Shepherd, who was once my brothers who recently passed was suffering from allergies. Itchy, skin, ear infections, etc. He is very knowledgeable and even gave affordable recommendations. He even gave me some version on the house. Gestures like this go a long way with people who are going through tough times and loss. To know there are still kind people out there means everything. My nephew and I thank you as well as the rest of the family. Hopefully I can get a hold of my German shepherds allergies and begin to experiment with the other types of meats he had mentioned. The salesperson was practically laughing at me when I asked her if it was fresh. I was dumb enough to buy a frozen roast, so shame on me. I've always had a strange experience here, maybe because I am not a local and do not patronize frequently, but the few times I've purchased I've felt ripped off based on the quality of what I receive. I want to shout out to everyone at Harmony Farms in La Crescenta. Thank you so much for the way everything went with the 25 pound suckling pig. My friends who were celebrating their 50th year anniversary and all their family really enjoyed the pig. Thank you for all your help from ordering to prepping the pig and packing it up. The pig smoked for 11 hours and was incredibly tender and juicy. It was delicious. Can't wait to order another for our Church event. If you ever need any top quality meats you gotta go check them out. Also a side note. If you need any of your dull knives sharpened they have a person on the Saturdays that sharpens knives for $10 a knife. read more

Harmony Farms was recommended to me by a friend and we were finally able to visit. The interior is small, but the variety is incredible. If you're looking for unique finds and cuts, this is the place to go. The prices vary but they off plenty of grass-fed options which is great. Everything we've tried so far has been delicious and fresh, and we were even able to order a turkey for Thanksgiving. When you feed raw, being careful about what you buy really matters -- and I feel completely confident here. It would be 5 stars if it wasn't so damn far away! I go there every 6-8 weeks to get venison bones for our dog; 8 lbs. (then maybe some packages of ground venison, elk, lamb, etc. No beef.) From that, 4 lbs. goes into a big stock pot for about 6 hours. Then we peel off whatever flesh / marrow has remained on the bone. This stock is added to her purée each evening. A few bones are kept raw for the brown bitch to chew, lick, and gnaw as a weekly treat. The ground meat is puréed along w/ sweet potatoes, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, broccoli to make her nightly repast (brekkie is salmon and oatmeal, but that's another review). We repeat the process after 10 days or so. No canned or bagged food for Suzy! She eats better than half the population. read more

Since it's the Holiday season, I was checking out this locally recommended meat market to see whether they had any specialty meats for Christmas and New Year celebrations. Boy, do they have meat! I saw venison, Wagyu A5 beef, various poultry and buffalo meat. The good woman behind the desk was able to find me some ground Angus beef with only 10 percent fat content and totally soft enough to make meatballs for our pasta tonight. I asked how far in advance do I need to pre-order, so the kind woman provided me with a fully complete list of all the meats they carry printed on a yellow full page paper. During my shopping adventure, this reminded me of someplace on the east coast where hunting is more popular and the variety of meats was incredible. I will ask the wife whether prime-rib or a goose would be better for the holidays, so I'll be back to this classic butcher shop in the near future or just a pound or two of beef for a nice meaty dinner. This place has excellent game meat. We stopped in after doing a hike nearby as this spot has been on my list and we were not disappointed. The place isn't too big and has a sort of weird layout but everything they have is quality & the prices are fair. I also like the way they have their freezers organized & the way they package and label all the meats. We got the rabbit sausage which literally blew my mind, I expected it to be good but wow. We paired it with whipped potatoes, a light cream sauce and asparagus and it was truly amazing. We also got wild boar sausage which I'm really excited about using in a red sauce pasta.
