First Watch is 1 of the best breakfast spots in the city. I'm there so much they recognize me! Some of favorites are the Trifecta or the BLTE. Also they have the best coffee and offer for it sale. Had lunch here on 10/24 SERVICE/AMBIENCE This place is LOUD!!! Also - server was friendly but slow. ENTREE I had the BLTE with tomato basil soup. It was ok - that's the problem with this place: it's just ok and entirely forgettable. I ate with 3 friends and they all had the same impression. Nice little breakfast spot! Stopped in on a Saturday morning and thought we'd have a long wait and slow service, but ended up with neither! The staff was very friendly and made dining with two young kids much more enjoyable with prompt service and anticipating our needs. I love that they have healthier brunch items, even though we all splurged. My little one and I shared the pumpkin pancakes which were very tasty. It came with chicken and apple sausage which was a nice change from the typical greasy pork breakfast sausage. The other little one had the kid's chocolate chip pancakes, which had a surprisingly nice crunch (cornmeal in the batter?). It was the perfect amount of food for her. My husband had a skillet which he said was really good. It looked like it was loaded with fresh veggies and I would definitely try one next time. Overall much better than your average chain breakfast spot. I'd definitely go back. Only downside in my opinion is the location since we would have to drive a bit further than I'd like for a weekend breakfast with the family. read more

Okay I LOVE breakfast!! However I like what most would not consider a traditional breakfast. A girlfriend if mine introduced me to First Watch in Carmel and now they are popping up all over. I have had pumpkin pancakes, great coffee, amazing service and a fun fresh atmosphere!!! It is small dining area however the tables are not on too of each other. Two of my most favorite things about First Watch (besides their untraditional options breakfast menu) is the fact that they leave water and coffee on the table for you!! First off, can we talk about the name? Surely we can talk about that. "First Watch" sounds like some kind of health clinic where you get screened for cancer instead of a yuppie breakfast spot, but here we are. Regardless, this is just a minor observation and has no reflection on the three stars of just-above-mediocrity it actually earned. The inner decor is clean, modern, and cheerful, something you'd expect to see a few miles north in Carmel, inhabited by the Lululemon mafia and a sea of joggers. Not really my scene, but the food is what really matters here. Upon entry, we were greeted by a very sprightly waitress who offered us coffee as we sat down, even before water. Call it naivete, but I presumed this meant the coffee was free, and happily accepted. I appreciated the gesture until I got the bill, and though the coffee does taste very fresh and good, it seems just a tad misleading to the tune of two-something dollars each. The waitress, whose cheerful demeanor was preferable to scorn, but perhaps could have been taken down a few notches in intensity, was helpful and knowledgeable. The menu is populated by quinoa and kale and then presumably bound together by hand with long locks of Gwenyth Paltrow's silken hair. There are plenty of classic breakfast favorites -- pancakes, toast, and so forth -- as well as 'power bowls' and antioxidant-rich yadda yadda. I chose Key West Crepeggs and my partner went with the biscuits and gravy. When we requested water, what we got was some bizarro glass carafe talking about reducing carbon footprint with this special hippie feel-good H2O nectar of the granola gods. It was cold, filtered water, people. It would be arguably more green just to drink from the damn Indianapolis hard tap water, minerals and all, so I suspect this is really just about taste, but I digress. The meal itself, at least on my part, was pretty satisfying. Portions were smaller than your average brunch joint (so actually, they were probably just right), the food was hot, and the Crepeggs, however cutesy the name, were well done. The ingredients seemed fresh and the grease factor was low, meaning I didn't feel like a hideously gross hambeast when I finished the whole plate. Sadly, the English muffin was kind of like chewing on buttered, broken glass, so my recommendation to the kitchen staff would be to toast with extreme caution. On the contrary, the biscuits and gravy were a giant disappointment. Technically-speaking, the individual components were executed fairly well. The gravy was strangely, delightfully airy, but otherwise bland and underseasoned. The turkey sausage was as only turkey sausage can be -- tragically underwhelming and most certainly not scratching the itch for full-blown, balls-out pork sausage. The biscuits? Yeah, alright, they were biscuits. The whole thing left us wanting. If you're already in the yuppie haven that is this plaza and you're jonesing for a brunch jam-packed with 100 essential antioximegavitacleansomins after a long, glassy-eyed romp through TJ's, this is probably your joint. For a curmudgeon like me who is too busy rolling their eyes at preachy water carafes and the price of food without the fun (grease, butter, fat, FUN), I think I'll stick to Denny's. read more

I have been to First Watch several times. Have never had a bad experience. My favorite dish is the Bacado omelette. I keep going back to it. Probably should try something else. Had a very good experience. The menu had some great offerings, from turkey bacon/sausage to quinoa. The fruit bowl was fresh, and the coffee was hot. They offered flavored creamers at the table too. I ordered the Chickichanga... egg, avocado, chicken, cheese, and a cheesy enchilada sauce on top. Prices were very good too. It's so nice to find breakfast joints that offer bacon/sausage substitutes for those of us who gave up the ol' porky pork. We will be back for sure. read more

Had the trifecta with the chalkboard special pumpkin multigrain pancake. The pancake was incredibly soft and with real syrup (which they gave me on request) and a whole tablespoon of butter? Amazing. Also, I didn't think it was possible to be impressed by scrambled eggs? Like... did everybody else know this was possible and just never tell me? The yolk and white were mixed without being beaten smooth and were very rich and buttery. I had orange pekoe and pekoe cut black tea with it, and altogether the meal was so good I think this atheist may have had a spiritual experience. I come here every now and again with work friends and have always had a good experience. My favorite meal is the BELT (bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato) with a side of greens (tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette). They have great seasonal selections, too. For the summer, they had an avocado toast with over easy eggs topped with sea salt and lemon zest. It was fabulous. My co-worker always gets the crepes or French toast and raves about them. I've been to several different First Watch locations in Indianapolis & Florida, & this is my favorite - BY FAR! Not only are the employees super friendly ALL THE TIME, but the food is much better. Love, love the food here - & I give credit to whoever is in the back cooking! The location is a little out of my way, but I will always find a way to make it here at least 1-2x/week! Waitress Jesica a bit too preoccupied talking to her coworkers throughout my visit. Had 2 for You special with tomato basil soup ( delicious !) and 1/2 Cobb salad, also fresh and tasty. Kitchen staff or waiter brought 1 two pack of saltines -- ONE! Again I was done with lunch when J finally refilled my soda and gave me another two crackers , which were stale. Staff chatty to each other when I checked out. J was right there and didn't say boo or thanks. Just walked awAy. Not impressed with service but food was great ! read more

First time here. Oh for a minute I thought I was in a small Denny's. I didn't like the seating - I don't think most people like to be seated on the "bench & tables" concept - where diners have to scoot in between your table and the next table. You have the room - just make the seating into booths. Wait staff: Average. Very average. Food: ick. The bacon-whatever-avocado omelet: hmmmm. Not sure I've ever seen real eggs so YELLOW. No seasoning on the "omelet." Tons of butter on the English muffin. The waitress recommended (pushed) raisin bread French toast. ick. We left more than half of our breakfast on our plates. At the cash register, when I was paying, the associate said, "Everything was wonderful????" Why do people say that? No. Everything was not wonderful. Don't waste your money. I want to start off saying that the food here is amazing. I have yet to have something I do not like, and I try to get something different each time I am there - If there was a food ranking system, they'd get a 5 star, hands down. The service here is usually spectacular. They offer you coffee right away and bring you a huge bottle of filtered water (which is FREE!!!) when you ask for water. I've gone many times since they've opened and had all different servers, some were better than others (just like in any other restaurant). I've always received my food within 10 minutes of ordering it and it was steaming hot and made to perfection. Now for the bad news, the reason why I didn't and couldn't give them a whole 5 stars... there is one server in particular that I've had on multiple visits, that needs some attention brought to his performance. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy, but you can tell he likes to party quite often... actually you can smell it on him. The first time I was forgiving, and even after the second time I thought maybe it was a coincidence.. but now it's to the point where I can no longer be forgiving. He smells like he showers in a gallon of vodka every morning, and I have to hold my breath when he brings things to my table, takes my order, or even walks by. From now on I am asking for anyone but him as my server, and I hope someone tells this guy he needs to settle down on the partying, or at least shower with soap and water before he comes to work in the morning.
