We tried Final Approach for lunch on Sunday (for the 1st time) based on Yelp reviews. The parking just sucks....I had to say that. The lot is small and hard to maneuver in and out of. Inside was charming. They had a fireplace going and it had a comfortable and relaxing vibe which was nice. We started out with the Wonton Cheesesticks which was a blend of 3 cheeses. I felt that the outer wrapper could have been crispier. It all kind of had a chewy feel. The taste was ok but I don't think I'd order it again. The sauce however looked homemade and was delicious, there were onions and veggies that didn't seem jarred or canned. I ordered their French Onion Soup. This was the FIRST time I've ever had it served with a KNIFE! I have to say...I'm going to ask for a knife every time. It made my life easier! There was lots of cheese and it had a good flavor. I've had better but this one was good...I'd order this again. For my meal I ordered their Chicken Tenders with their homemade BBQ sauce. Those were good! Nice and crispy (not too crispy) with a nice flavor. My husband ordered the Turkey Burger which he's never tried before and said it was quite good! Our waitress was Colleen and she took good care of us. We never ran out of beverages or needed anything. All in all....we'll be back to try something else at dinner time. read more

Holy cow. This place was such a wonderful surprise. My family and I were flying out of MKE the next morning, and wanted a nice meal near the airport before a busy day of traveling. We saw some good reviews for this place, so we decided to check it out. We're always looking for a good fish fry, and Final Approach did not disappoint. My dad and brother got a heaping portion of the all-you-can-eat fish, my momma got some breaded fish, and I got the baked cod. We ate so much that it was hard to stand up after that dinner (i'm not kidding), but it was hard to stop eating when everything was SO good. Pro tip: Try their potato pancakes if you know what's best for you. Overall, loved the decorations, the vibe, the food, and our wonderful waitress. I hope we'll be back :-) read more

This has been a long time favorite of the family's but we'd not been in a while. This round we had the reuben wrap, pot roast poutine and potato boat appetizers. The reuben wraps were differently shaped than we're used to in that they arrived looking like potatoes but delicious with ratio just a little kraut-heavy vs corned beef. My fave potato boats were cooked well-done (loved) and topped with the gooey cheese, crispy bacon and green onion cool-contrasted with sour cream-yum! The pot roast poutine was, unfortunately, no one's favorite. It looked good on paper but the beef, in particular, didn't taste fresh. Service is great, felt warmly welcomed. read more

My friends we're visiting from Chicago and staying by the airport. They wanted to do "Wisconsin" and Final Approach delivered. While the grownups enjoyed G&Ts, soft cloud like dinner rolls and foiled butter in baskets on the table kept the kids satisfied until dinner arrived. We had the 747 burger, French Dip, ribeye, and miscellaneous kids meals. All were good. It was a Saturday night and there was live music. I think it was The Delrays. Our first stop of our Friday Fish fry club! I had not ever been to Final Approach for the fish fry. Clearly the secret is out because the place was hopin! We had a group of about 15 people with a reservation. We very much appreciated that they would accommodate a large group. We had all arrived and were enjoying pre-meal cocktails. Our table was ready for us shortly after our reservation time. I was impressed with the menu overall. We started with cheese curds, onion strings, artichoke dip, shrimp cocktail, and cream cheese wontons. There was a nice selection of items on the Friday Fish fry menu. For fish, you had a choice of battered or baked cod, breaded or broiled Walleye, and Perch. There is also coconut shrimp available. I opted for breaded Walleye. I enjoyed the light, crisp breading. I thought the portion was generous. I also tasted the coconut shrimp. It was very flavorful and had a nice crunch. Others had fried or baked cod. Everyone enjoyed their food. A couple of very slight misses, one person felt their food was not very warm. With it being a large group this is understandable. I opted for a salad in place of potato. The Italian dressing was oily and lacked flavor. I'm not going to knock em too hard as these are pretty minor. Our service was attentive and I appreciated that they assigned two servers to our group. Especially since they spilt our checks. Overall I felt we had good food, good service, and a great time. read more

My friends and I ended up at Final Approach randomly. After a long night of unintentional bar hopping, we just wanted to sit and drink. We walked into Final Approach and we found our home for the night!! There was awesome karaoke with an excellent host. Nice, attentive bartenders and a real fun crowd. By the end of the night my crew and I were known as the peeps from Chicago all around the bar. We karaoked such greats as: (my personal favorite) BBD "Poison", Biz Markie "Just a Friend" and every other awesome rap song from the 90s. There were delicious shots and a couple rounds on the house as we were celebrating a birthday. Sweet! The best part of the night... Everyone in the bar lined up and spread their legs at the karaoke host's instructions. Then the birthday boy had to crawl through everyone's legs while we spanked him. I'm so glad I have pictures. Of course, they cannot be posted on the interwebs. But enjoy the mental image... Long story short - this was a great, fun place. If you find yourself in South Milwaukee - check it out. Dark, dank, bad food, good service. We asked for the non-smoking section which was a joke. We were placed in a corner adjacent from the bar so it was pretty stinky. The waitress was nice and attentive. We ordered drinks and they were good, reasonably priced. Then we ordered an appetizer, the thre cheese wontons. They were also pretty good. For dinner I ordered the chicken alfredo and my husband ordered the pecan encrusted mahi-mahi. The salads came first, they were so wet the dressing did not stick and they were covered in croutons that were soaked in grease. The whole salad smelled like a deep-fat fryer. The dinners came and they were very large portions. The mahi-mahi was so greasy that my husband pushed the fish down with his fork and it made a puddle of grease on the place. The chicken was tasteless and the noodles were so loaded with alfredo sauce, the plate had to to weigh over a pound. It was pretty bad. We asked the waitress to pack it all up in to-go containers as it was pretty inedible. Although I don't know why we just didn't leave it there. I went there after working.. I work by the airport tonight. My taste buds wanted good Fish Fry without the fishy taste. I grew up in the Restaurant Industry I am picky. The hostess was pleasant. Greeting was not fake. The waitress ( Tiffany) came right away no time laps. She was very friendly honest and knows in and out of what was good. Very helpful very pleasant if there was a rating 100 0/0. She would get it. She was the person who you want. She re command and it was one the ball. The place was not noisy. Was clean good crowd but enough seating. The Fish was GREAT TASTE. They have great meal selection Specials everyday. On Saturday there is alive band playing. Friday's you will find me there. Suggested by family to stop in for the Friday evening fish fry. Upon arriving, we were graciously seated immediately with a window view. The waitress arrived quickly upon seating and was soft spoken & personable ... just the way I like it. After a quick review of the fish fry menu, I ordered the "beer battered Cod with potato pancakes" on the side for $8.95. We were told that you get 3 pieces of fish on this order. Hmmm ... Ok. And for future reference, they also have the AYCE cod for $12.95. When our entree's arrived, I was surprised at the portion size! The fish pieces were LARGE, lightly battered and cooked perfectly. I debated between this place of the Mexican food place right down the street. Glad I picked this one. If you like aviation, you'll love the decour. There was an airplane on the roof which is a great invitation for pilots. The walls are lined with photos of airplanes and propellers are scattered throughout the dining room. My kind of place. My waitress, Joan, was fantastic. Kept my ice tea full and constantly checked on me. So did the hostess. A great way to run a restaurant. I had the Tuscan chicken wrap and it was fantastic. Would definitely get it again. The fries were crinkle cut store-bought but they were still pretty tasty. All in all, highly recommend. It's like a magic portal to the 70s! Unfortunately, that's the nicest thing I can say about Final Approach. After several visits, we're not coming back. Their hallmark "best Bloody Mary in Milwaukee" is indeed a salad in a glass, but the beverage under the salad is nothing special. Neither the appetizers nor the entrees are exceptional. The steaks and seafood are mediocre. The service is very good, but that's just not enough of a reason to eat here when you are within 10 minutes of The Packing House and Dobies. read more

Saturday night (27 Nov, 2021) will be my last time going there. We were a party of 9, Four Couples and my Daughter with my wife and I. All couples had there own checks as per my request, to avoid problems, and each couple would tip according to there service. The Ordering of the Dinners went down with out a problem, the Wife also order a Brandy Old Fashion. No problem there other then the price. and the Daughter and I Order a Cherry Coke. Well it was at this time the wife heads to the rest room, and come back a bit Miff, pull my ear aside and precedes to tell me that she just saw one of the young lady's paying hand attention to her Nose. Not once did she break off and go wash her hands.. well at least she was not our waitress. Our order's finale arrives and the waitress starts handing them out, BUT!! to the wrong people. My brother-in-law receives my sons meal, With Separate check all she would have to do is look at the Check.. Near the end of the meal my Wife decides to have another drink, flags down the Waites requests a norther drink please and hands her the empty glass, and the Waites heads for the Bar... (1) my Wife should have told her what type, (2) the Waites should have ask what type, Instead of getting to the bar realizing she doesn't know the Order and not wanting to go back and ask, She orders my Wife a Southam Comfort old Fashion (10.00) other then the Brand old fashion that my wife is drinking. Now, when I get my Check I am take back by the fact that the tip was already add to the bill by the Waites.. That was the last Straw. The type of service that my party receive was par for Couse at best. ad to the fact that the men's bathroom floor was stickie with a bit of a Oder to it. Came here to catch up with friends flying into Mitchell airport. Pleasantly surprised ! On a Saturday night, live music (jazz / Motown mix) was great. Casual ambience, great music and solid food. Started with flights of beer - nice selection, with 30beers on tap. Have a card and booklet guide to help you choose - really easy to order. Had prime rib sandwich special - tasty and tender. Final Approach is a safe landing for your dining experience. I went here for my girlfriends, father's birthday dinner. I was pleasantly surprised with the decor inside the restaurant, which was a lot better than the street view. It's not just a locale watering hole, it's a really nice little spot. The fire place is a great touch. The crowd is older, I would say around 50-60 which makes it quiet. I liked that, no rowdy bar folks here. Food, lots of choices and good specials. The only thing I found to possibly complain about was the rolls were not hot. Other than that food was great. Prepared well and not over cooked. read more

This place is amazing!!! Bud the bartender is a rock star! The bloody Mary is awesome, and let's not forget the food. Yes, the food! Prime rib was on point, and so flavorful. The burgers are also so amazing. I really enjoy the atmosphere, and the plane on the roof. I havent been able to visit Milwaukee for a little while now, but!!! We stopped here fresh off our flight from California and were so glad we did! It was Fish Fry Friday and the three of us had the breaded perch, beer-batter cod and breaded wall-eyed pike. Our server was friendly and efficient and the fish came out piping hot! Our daughter chose the potato pancakes side, which were yummy as well.
