Food- the chicken Parmesan is desc on the menu as "hand breaded with Italian seasoned bread crumb. I was raised on frozen breaded chicken and thats exactly what I was serve. Very disappointed given the price and the fact that both the chicken and the pasta were served cold- after an hour wait. Chicken Marsala is listed in the menu as "seared and basted in a rich mushroom sauce with imported Marsala wine. Imagine our disappointment when the dish came out with one chicken breast & two mushrooms- no sign of any sauce, along side a dish of cold plain linguine. Service was slow, slower and just plain ridiculous. We arrived at 3:50pm and finally received our entrees at 5:30. I am giving them 5 stars just for the wait staff!! I had reservations for 3 for Christmas night. Our party expected to wait but not over an hour after our reservation time... there were parties of 10-15 there that took up not only the wait staff time but time for smaller tables to be seated at or around Our reservation time. I do not blame the restaurant staff! This was a clear problem of Customers who thought this was their Home and could take 3hrs to leave. A Perfect Milwaukee Night Out at The Packing House! We kicked off our night with old fashioneds and Prosecco, and right away the vibe was set. For appetizers, we shared the shrimp cocktail with nice big shrimp and a great cocktail sauce, and the crab stuffed mushrooms, which were absolutely unbelievable. Rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The complimentary rye bread alone deserves a shoutout. Warm, soft, and downright addictive. For dinner, we split the Friday fish fry and wow, the fish was spectacular. Perfectly crispy on the outside and flaky inside. The potato pancakes that came with it were the real surprise star. Golden, delicious, and the perfect pairing. We sat in the bar area, which was packed and buzzing with energy. The live band was wonderful and kept the atmosphere lively and lovely all evening. Such a great touch that made the experience feel extra special. From drinks to appetizers to dinner and entertainment, everything was top notch. A truly classic Milwaukee experience done right. I was invisible, and food over priced. I was also bored. At the Packing House, I walked in to hear a world class entertainer who got his start at the Packing House in 1980. Heck, Jeff Stohl met his wife there and continues to headline most Wednesday nights in the lounge. This is old school. Martinis, manhattans, ice cream drinks steaks and chops. A luxurious lounge with real bartenders who smile at you and remember your name. There's live music on Weds, Fri & Sat. No cover charge. Sit at the bar and order some escargot or eggplant strips. Amazing. This is a timeless treasure that will provide hours of enjoyment. Boomers, gen X rejoice. Food is awesome, cocktails delicious. My tab was about $35 and included a birthday drink for Kelly. Went here with some friends who love this spot. Definitely a great Wisconsin restaurant! They had a great jazz band that was set up near the bar. We went on a Friday, so most of got the fish fry! Highly recommend the signature fish fry with cod. The batter was perfect. Their potato pancakes were perfectly crispy with delicious flavor! The kiddos got pasta and grilled cheese, both enjoyed by them. Our service is amazing, she was very in tune with how our kiddos were doing and when to get their order in. Came here for the first time to celebrate my cousin's birthday. The ambiance inside was surprisingly pretty--not what you'd expect from the exterior. They had plenty of tables, but the seating felt a bit cramped due to the poles in the infrastructure. We started with appetizers--the mozzarella sticks were tasty, though I didn't try the other options. For my meal, I had the small French onion soup, which was rich and flavorful with perfectly melted, thick cheese. I also ordered the Caesar salad with chicken and added anchovies for an extra $1.50. The chicken was flavorful and not dry, which was a plus, but the salad itself was oddly cold. The bread at the table was fresh and paired nicely with the soup. My cousin's steak was cooked perfectly to a medium pink, but another cousin's steak, which was supposed to be more cooked, came out too red. A coworker and I had some time to kill before a flight, so we hit this place up just around the corner for lunch. It had an excellent atmosphere and reminded me of an old school classic restaurant. It was cold outside and the french onion soup sounded like it would hit the spot, and it did! Wow, had great flavor and lots of cheese! Delicious and I'd probably get it again on a hot day (does it even get hot in Milwaukee?) I was looking for "safe" food before a flight so I got the club and it was well made and fresh and delicious! The fries were good too even though they look lifeless in the picture. Overall, a great meal, but don't try and get in and out too quick as it is a little more laid back than a Chick Fil A, but probably not as slow as a Popeye's. read more

I'd been looking for a Wisconsin supper club for a while. I was planning to go to the Milwaukee horror fest so i tried making reservations at the Jackson grill for that evening. Was told I needed to make them at least a week in advance so that was that. Turned out, the Packing house was less than 2 miles from the horror convention. Made the reservation for 4pm, right when they opened. We arrived at 3:55, so we went into the bar while they prepared our table. I got a Wisconsin old fashioned, and it was pretty darn good. My wife just got water, as she was the designated driver in case I got several more old fashioned drinks. When seated , I ordered the rib-eye with mashed potatoes. And a side of asparagus. I got a Caesar salad as well. Also got a bowl of the beef barley soup. My impressions? Oh my Gosh, everything was great! The soup was very hearty and flavorful, the salad was crisp and cold, the steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the mashed potatoes were simply delicious. I wanted to take home a doggy bag, but my tummy had other plans. So 5 stars all around. My wife order veal with a hollandaise sauce, with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The veal also came with crab meat. I did not care for her meal. She felt the veal was too chewy and not crispy enough. The mashed potatoes were lukewarm warm. She did like the salad and asparagus. We shared a slice of the banana cream pie afterward. That was outstanding. The bill was around $130, which she thought was overpriced. A few years have gone by since my last perch fish fry here. Happy to report that not only is it still good but u think it's better! Three (large) pieces of perch, lightly breaded and delicious. I upgraded my fries to potato pancakes which were better than I remembered. I live a salted marble rye bread. The fish fries come with clam chowder soup. A good to know, they take reservations on Fridays if your group is 5 or less. I discovered this when I called this afternoon and was able to snag a reservation for tonight. The parking lot fills up quickly and the design is not great. When the fish fry drive thru is open, the three spots by the drive thru line are pretty much useless because it is hard to back up with that line. Staff were friendly and efficient. read more

My fiancé and I come here for most celebrations such as anniversaries and Valentine's Day. This day (our fifth visit overall) we came for an early birthday celebration for me. I always order the boneless ribeye and she never fails to disappoint! The onion strings that it comes with is my absolute favorite and I love that you can order them as a starter but we decided with the bacon wrapped water chestnuts instead. I absolutely love taking some bread and dipping it in the glaze, it's a game changer. Service was quick despite it being a busy Friday night, everyone was attentive and the food came out quickly. The server was nice and friendly. Food was absolutely horrible. My $71.99 steak was over cooked and tasted like hamburger. My wife's crab legs were cold and had to be sent back. The rice had no seasoning and was very unappealing. The steak comes with roasted mushrooms. I had 4 half's of a mushroom on my plate. Will not ever return nor recommend. Food is fine, however service was very poor from management. Our server was very kind and fantastic. When our bill came, we had an automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill. When asked, the server notified us that it was policy for parties of six or more. When a member of our party asked to speak to a manager about it, the assistant manager came to the table, quickly and rudely explained its recommended gratuity and if we were displeased, the amount could be adjusted. She abruptly walked off without even letting us speak or even ask how to adjust the gratuity amount. For the price point and how excellent our server was, it's frustrating to have such a negative response from management. My other suggestion is to have a listed policy on the website or menu if it's not going to be made known to people when they arrive or reserve a table. Editing to add: Checked the website once more following the response, and it seems that the policy of a mandatory gratuity is buried within the lunch menu section near sandwiches - not easily found or made clear for patrons, but technically there. It also states an 18% mandatory gratuity, so it may also need updates. I want to again express that my issue and single star is for the response from the manager. Regardless of the question, someone in a leadership role within a team should not be that dismissive and unwelcoming. To rattle off a statement and promptly walking off without allowing anyone at our table to even ask a follow-up question or respond is not helpful. read more

We were here for a luncheon that had a fixed menu so this review does not represent a typical visit where we would order off the regular menu. The staff was very friendly and efficient with the group of around fifty people. The salads were good as was the fresh bread. I got the chicken parm which was a reasonable size serving and it was very tasty. Others at our table got the baked cod and gave it a thumbs up. A solid performance for a fixed menu luncheon. I did peek at their dinner menu and as with many steakhouses these days the prices were very expensive. I took my parents and partner here for my stepdad's birthday on Sunday and we have a great experience. They open at 4P and you have to make reservations. The food was delicious! We had the water chestnuts wrapped with bacon for our appetizer. Which is so good!!! Then my stepdad ordered the chicken Parmesan meal and the rest of us ordered the steak au poivre, the steak was drizzled in cognac sauce and it was tender and juicy. It was cooked to perfection. We went on a Sat for my mother's bday. We had reservations and everything went well got sat right away. But what made this a 5 star experience was our server Mikiya. (sorry if spelt wrong) I can't put into words how great she was. She was so on point with her service; I would go back just for her. We were a larger party, and she handled it very well. This is based on our experience for dining on Thanksgiving only. We made reservations for 6pm and we didn't get sat till 630pm. I think they took to many reservations and on top of that people were talking at the tables even after their meals. I know it's tough , but maybe institute a time limit due to how busy they were. What an amazing experience we had last night. Jeremiah was phenomenal. This place is a legendary go to when it comes to having a steak in Milwaukee. It does not disappoint in any way possible. We had the 3 filets and each was cooked differently. One was standard, the second one was au poivre and the third one was Wellington. All of them were so perfectly cooked and so tender. I had to try the Wisconsin Brandy old-fashioned and it did not disappoint. Price was very reasonable for a steakhouse of this caliber. Highly recommend if you're ever anywhere near Milwaukee. Food was cold, tasteless and didn't even remotely resemble what was described on their menu. I'll bet my entire bill the chicken breast served in the Chicken Parmesan was of the frozen version. Thin rubbery, tough, nothing "crispy" about it; served with a side of cold pasta under cold sauce. The chicken Marsala was even worse. The menu says it's made with a rich robust mushroom sauce. It was served dry, with two mushrooms and another dish of cold dry, greasy pasta. So disappointing and definitely not worth the cost. I can't find a single reason to recommend this place or to return. read more

I remember The Packing House back in the 70's growing up in Milwaukee. Knowing I would be in Wisconsin for my birthday with my daughter, I decided this is where I wanted to go for my birthday dinner. We made a reservation and arrived on time. The dining room was already packed and there was a line for drive thru pick up. This alone reminded me of how good they were. I checked in and we waited a couple of minutes. We were seated, and given water and menu's. We ordered the onion stack as an appetizer and I have the fish fry and my daughter a chicken dish. The food was just as good as I remember it to be some 45 years ago. The memories it brought back. I definitely would recommend this place and will be back again when I am back in Milwaukee. read more

I was expecting the food to be better. Marinara has a very distinct green pepper taste, it's almost over powering. Beef stroganoff was good- but needed a lot of pepper. Steak was so hard to cut through that I gave up and ended up taking the whole thing home. Mashed potatoes were fine but too much (parsley I think) on top it felt like I was constantly wiping it out of my teeth. Duck was good. Chocolate cake had a nice mouse and frosting on the outside, cake itself was kind of dry. The real hero was the warm bread. Atmosphere was great. Music was at a good level. Bar was nice. Super clean and were able to get sat right away. Service was ok. Definitely seemed like she did not want to be there or like she was having a very long day. My fiancé and I both feel sick after. Way over priced . Had the chicken parm . The chicken looked like a frozen patty there wasn't any sause they gave me buttered noodles that was so dry like they sat under a heat lamp ordered buttered mushrooms and they were dry also .wasn't impressed don't think I will be going here again. I had better chicken parm at olive garden at a quarter of the price. My family paid almost 500. For this meal I felt ripped off. Don't know why they think they can charge this much for average food .
