Recently I completed a 7-day stretch of trying at least one new-to-me restaurant per day. Day seven was at Final Approach. My family was flying back home on a Friday night and I had to pick them up from the airport in Milwaukee, so I needed dinner somewhere nearby. Final Approach has an all you can eat beer battered cod special on Friday nights, so that was my choice. I went with potato pancakes for the side. Both the potato pancakes and beer battered cod were fine. I've had better versions of both elsewhere. For an all you can eat option, though, it was more than adequate, especially by the airport as it would be busy enough without the AYCE option. Likely I'll try somewhere else if I find myself in the area on Friday night again. read more

I've Had There Beer Battered Fish Several Time's and It Literally is the Best in Town. The Size of piece of it, The Crunchiness of the Batter Coating of the Fish...Now That I moved out of Milwaukee by an Hour, I'd still drive Here to get my Fish Fry, it's Absolutely worth the trip. Went here on a Friday for their fish fry. It was very busy and they don't take reservations. We were able to get a table after a short wait. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the eggplant fries for an appetizer and they were really good! Nice and crispy. For dinner, I ordered the beer battered cod with fries. The fish was really good! It had great flavor and was crispy. The fries were good but didn't have a lot of flavor. I also enjoyed their tartar sauce, albeit it does taste a bit like ranch. Seated right away at 4:45 on a Friday, which was nice. The gentleman that was our waiter was very prompt and pleasant. We had the "Fish Fry" Cod filets with FF and/or potato cakes. The fish was so delicious and the slaw was not bad however it's a vinegar base-not mayo like I'm used to in the south. My husband and I agree we will go back! We stayed by the airport and weren't sure where to eat. We passed this restaurant/bar so we looked up the reviews which were very good! Better than driving far, downtown traffic...we decided to try it. Had "All you can eat shrimp" today! We decided on Grilled Walleye and Chicken Parmesan. Both had nice portions, very good food! The chicken was tender and delicious! Both came with a good sized side salad (very good dressing). We enjoyed our meal, great friendly service and the restaurant is very vintage with a cool bar, home-style atmosphere. I would recommend eating here. A very nice surprise! Enjoyable meal! read more

I love this restaurant. A great atmosphere and prompt, courteous service. I ordered the 747 burger and chili. The burger was cooked perfectly, Medium rare and the chili was like a much better version of Wendy's chili. Conveniently located near MKE airport, make it your must stop before or after landing. Known for their fish fry, I had high hopes for this southside institution. I was in the mood for prime rib & didn't want to go too far from home. Walking in we were met with an overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke. I looked around knowing that surely someone hadn't lit up in the dining area. Not finding the source, we were promptly sat at a booth not far from the entrance. I kept smelling a fresh waft of cigarette smoke throughout our meal. The booth was clean but clearly dated. Our waitress seemed flustered yet friendly. I went with the king cut of prime rib with a baked potato & baked French onion soup. The soup came out quickly & was piping hot. While not my favorite in the area, it was a nice start to the meal. The waitress checked in on us often, but each time seemed extremely stressed. The prime rib was sadly tough & a touch overcooked. The au jus was flavorful & saved the meal along with the horseradish cream we had to request. Overall, the meal was fine, but not somewhere I'd recommend to others. read more

Folks every Tuesday from 6-9 is an amazing musical experience at Final approach. It's a jazz drop in band experience that has the feel of the Rat Pack playing "just for fun." There were at least 8 different musicians or more, with an emcee that pulled it together like a Vegas act. Loved the small audience who were dressed up and swaying and dancing. This is a very special gift - the venue is friendly and affordable, and feels like you just walked into a Cheers. Drinks are reasonable, food is good. Packing House has always been my go to but this is a totally different experience- impeccable music and professionalism delivered with passion and great fun. And easier on the wallet. read more

There website says $15.99 for a fish fry they charge you $17.00. 2 Makers mark tall double they charged 11.70 each and a Titos was 10.40 and a single Patron and 7 up $10.40. So 2 people - 2 fish fries and 4 drinks plus a 20% tip $100. The service was good fish OK and the Prices are way to high! This place is nothing special, I have had much better and more reasonable priced fish fries. I called they basically told me tough luck to bad. We are in from out of town and this place was next to our hotel. My husband said oh that looks like a quirky place (it has an airplane on the roof) let's eat there. When we are traveling we like to eat at places we can't get at home and let me tell you this place is nothing like either of us have ever been to before! They had a jazz band playing so it was a little loud but the server was great at making sure we could hear her and she got our order correct. The food was AMAZING! The food came out so hot and fresh! I cannot stand low level business that brings you a menu with a price, but then charges you a higher one. Like here...n they act as if was the most normal thing or if, we customers, had a crystal ball. " Oh that's the price now, we changed". - But your menu says another price, I'm paying what it is there. That's what I agreed on. " No, that's the price now." Oh well, you are shorting me on $4 bucks, that's fine, me and my whole crew Won't be coming back, no tip on top of warning everyone about this experience I came on a Wednesday, in which the waiter said all apps had $2 off. This was New Year's Day and it was a Friday so I thought that I would start the new year doing Wisconsins traditional meals so I would go and get a fish fry, I'm not from Wisconsin so these traditional meals are cool. I went through my bookmarks and compared them a list of Milwaukee's best fish frys and this place was a match so I stopped by. The weather was not very good out so the place was mostly empty so I got a seat right away. The place is a bar and restaurant with a flying theme and a plane on top of the building. I ordered a brandy old fashioned sour to start my first restaurant of the year meal which was good. I didn't want the all you can eat fish fry so I got the regular fried cod with potato pancakes. My fish fry came with 3 pieces of cod, 2 potato pancakes, rye bread, coleslaw and tarter sauce. To my surprise the cod was 3 big beer battered loins that took up the whole plate. The fish was very meaty/flakey with a nice crunchy beer batter that had a hint of garlic that I really liked. The potato pancakes are completely horrible with a dense/rubbery texture and they didn't taste like a potato at all, I don't know what they are. The coleslaw was super average and the tarter sauce was ok, not the worst but not the best. The rye bread was buttered and good. My service was outstanding and the fish was pretty good so I would definitely go back for the fish fry. read more

Been here 4 times in the last week and a half. Yes, visiting from northern Wisconsin, and kept coming back. They are that good. Chili with a local Porter - perfect match. Don't forget to get the chili loaded with tortilla chips on the side. - had this combo twice. They have a Beer Battered Chicken Tenders recurring special that pairs well with a local IPA, but you can chose many other local beers if you prefer. You gotta try it! I'm here with a Polka Juice local Oktoberfest waiting on my Tenderloin steak sandwich with locally made vinegar-based coke slaw that I expect to be just as good as all of the above. Stopping in Milwaukee soon? Drop in and have some great food. Update: The only, only suggestion, would be fresh sautéed mushrooms in the sandwich. I've had better walleye and fries here in the past. It was later in the evening,but no excuse for dried fries. I have always gotten bread with my dinner. The waitress made an issue of it saying bread no longer comes with the $20 piece of fish and fries. The coleslaw was oily and a little more than 1/2 full on a small condiment cup. I finally did get a dry piece of bread with no butter. This is my last trip. There dare much better fish fries. You need to do better for $20, and get better servers. read more

We were served by the friendliest and warmest lady we met in Wisconsin. The man who sat us didn't seem the happiest but the lady's service totally made up for it. We ordered a cup of their Soup of the Day which was Clam Chowder, Pasta Alfredo with Shrimp, and Chicken Caesar Salad. They serve you bread and butter as an appetizer. We loved our food and were quite impressed! The only comment I had was my salad was too dressed but my usual problem with salads is there is never enough sauce, this is the exact opposite. I live downtown Milwaukee and love supper clubs, but had no idea we had one right next to the airport until yesterday! This place is great -- from Doug, the extremely friendly and helpful bartender, to the kitschy decor, to the excellent menu. It was Saturday night so, like a true supper club, they had a prime rib special. I got the king cut for 30 bucks, including salad and fries. The blue cheese dressing on the salad was cold, chunky and delicious. And the prime rib came out perfectly tender and rare like I ordered it. I will be offering friends and family free rides to the airport so I have an excuse to stop by this place as often as I can. read more

Awesome quaint place by the airport. It has a great assortment of libations. The bloody Mary's are tasty and the old-fashions are too tasty. The French onion soup was excellent as well as a soup that was called Philly cheesesteak. I cannot describe it except yum! I had the walleye. It was broiled and probably not a huge portion, but it was good and along with the veggies quite satisfying. The coconut shrimp was the rave though. The mango sauce is what makes the tasty bite. For 22$all you can eat- just omg. We had a new waitress. She was not only attentive and super endearing, but also warming and a very special person. Just a great experience.
