The food is very good, the people are fantastic! We forgot about this place for a bit and I am glad someone mentioned it recently. The prices are reasonable and the amount of food to me is perfect. You don't get an overload, you get enough with some leftovers at times. We were there for breakfast and they have a person that he comes around asking if you need more coffee. More restaurants need this type of employee. One of my pet peeves is not getting asked if I need more coffee. I am not one to sit and drink a pot, but I will want a second cup. He also cleans the tables, but he makes sure everyone is served first. The servers are so darn nice, they all have smiles and are honestly there to help and serve you. It is a change from what is in other restaurants. Breakfast, depending on what you get, you get a choice of potato or pancake. He had 2 eggs over medium, bacon, you get 4 pieces made just as we like, and hashbrowns. I got homemade cornd beef hash, American fries, 2 eggs over medium. The server asked if we wanted to add onion to the potatoes, and yes of course we do. You also get your choice of toast, they have several types of bread, or pancake. The eggs were made to perfection as was everything else. I was a bit surprised to get asked for potato as corned beef hash has potato in it, but there was not a lot of potato, it was a lot of corned beef and it definitely was home made. Their hours are Monday closed, Tues-Thurs 8-2:30, Fri 8-8, Sat and Sun 6:30-2. We were there Sunday at around 10 and when we left it was getting busy. We did stop by last month for lunch, he had a reuben and I had a tuna melt, both were fantastic. The service was great as always also. read more

This is one of those places that I have had bookmarked but because of the lack of pictures I haven't had it as a high priority breakfast spot. This place is in a dying strip mall that is mostly vacant on the coroner so parking is abundant. The place is very large and dumpy/dated with old carpet and cafeteria tables/chairs with booths along the wall. The menu is not super huge and it has a nice variety of choices so I opted for the country combo which is biscuits/gravy, eggs, sausage patties and potatoes. Meats and potatoes have options that you can choose but I had it how it was listed on the menu. The coffee was diner classic and nothing special but I had it for a change and it didn't disappoint, just what I expected. The servers were super friendly and way too bubbly for the 7am hour that came over often with conversation and coffee, they were a great face for the restaurant. My breakfast was served hot and steaming, nice job. The eggs were perfect sunny with big runny yokes that that I smashed into the hash browns. The biscuits/gravy had a fresh biscuit with plenty of gravy but average. The sausage patties were the thin non zesty appeal to the masses kind. The hash browns were really good with a nice golden/crispy crunch with added onions and the runny yoke, the best part of my breakfast, I wish I could make hash browns like this. Overall the food was average and nothing mind blowing but the servers were were wonderful and I'm giving 4 stars for the whole experience, people definitely can up a rating over the food as a total experience so I would definitely go back. read more

We have been here a lot of times over the years. It's a really good spot that gets overlooked due to its location. The food here is really good quality, especially when you consider the price. There ready is something for everyone here. Tonight, we had the Mexican combo, breakfast for dinner, and a homemade shrimp alfredo. Soup, bread, and dessert were included. My shrimp were cooked perfectly, and at only 8.99!? We have had a lot of breakfasts here over the years, and I highly recommend the corned beef hash. It's fantastic. I won't go back, mostly because of the child's menu. Too expensive; $5.50 for chocolate milk and kids pancakes. There were 4 pancakes... no way he could ever eat that. It'd have been better to serve less pancakes and charge $2.99. Father and law and I had regular breakfasts..... I had a big meal with big sausages. The sausages weren't to my liking. Re-cooked to heat up made tough skin, and too much pork or something gave it a off taste. The American fries were good, and plentiful. Service was ok but a bit distant (they were not busy). Castillos is a great place for breakfast. They have amazing strawberry banana pancakes. The only thing I have to negativly say was that the server was extremely loud. It worsened my moms headache. Went out with family last night. The food was phenomenal - and I was pretty surprised because they have tons of options on the menu. Our server seemed very frazzled and almost gave us all the wrong food, but he seemed new. We have a meet up at Castillos every second Monday of the month.We usually have about 15 people show up. Our waitress is Teri most of the time. She could not be more pleasent. Always happy to see us and runs her but off to please, Menu is huge and always tasty. We used to go to The Landing on Layton. We were always treated well there also,we just out grew it. The food is pretty good - especially breakfast. Although the cooks are generally Mexican (from what I can tell), the Mexican entrees have been fairly "Americanized." If you like traditional cafe food, you should enjoy the food at Castillo's. The atmosphere is quirky - it's rather spartan, with what seem to be used (or at least quite old) fixtures. It's a converted retail space in a strip mall, so be prepared for it to be outside the "norm." But again, if the food is what you care about and you like breakfast, give it a try. Was in there last week. The food was not even fair. And the kids menu cost the same as the adult menu. I seen they have a Elvis show coming up but it's $40 for a ticket for one person. And that includes dinner. I didn't want the dinner cuz it's not that great. So I asked if I could buy just a reg ticket. Nope! $40 and you get free slop on a plate. Let me start my review by being honest. This place is not much to look at. The decor inside is not welcoming or well thought out. On countless occasions I have been greeted with a staff member barking at me, "HOW MANY?". I would prefer a "Welcome to Castillo's." and a smile..... and then the question of how many people in my party. If you can get past that.... The wait staff has always been friendly and attentive. This is what I can say about the food: Fresh bread. Home made desserts. Fresh ingredients. First restaurant that I have been to in a while that does not get all of their food from some commercial company that requires reheating before it hits your plate. Food is made how you ask for it and with a smile. I believe it is an AWESOME value for your money considering that a lot of the food is made from scratch. My friend and I went there last night and the experience was pretty bad. I heard from 1 of the other 3 tables in the restaurant that they used to be located in West Allis or somewhere west of Cudahy. As I said there were only 4 tables with us on a Saturday night!!!!!! When we entered we were'nt greeted by anyone, there were 2 servers there a young man and a young girl, the young man grabbed menus and sat us all the time yelling back to the young lady that he wasn't taking anymore tables, he had been there since 8am and he was done. We felt very uncomfortable after that, I asked my friend if she wanted to leave but she chose to stay. When the young lady got to us you could tell she was very upset and teary eyed, actually another customer said to her "it will be allright" REALLY was she that upset because she had another table??? Now mind you we made a total of 4 tables, hardly a busy night for any restaurant. Being a server most of my adult life, I don't know what they would do if they had a busy night. I know if the young man is not related to the owners he would be terminated, lousy way to run a business, lousy presentation to guests. My friend ate, I chose not too after that great customer service display by the two team members. The food was all right, the service fair, the atmosphere horrible. read more

It took over 30 minutes to get our food & only got it AFTER I threatened to leave in 3 minutes. When it came, my daughter's steak had no flavor and my liver was burned. I called the waitress over & told her I don't eat burned liver & would she please have it taken off of my bill. She told me that I need to stop having attitude with her. Previously she told me that she was only the waitress and all of their food is made to order & blah, blah, blah with a horrible attitude. Last night & this morning, my daughter and I both have stomach problems & diarreha. Not likely recommending this place to my friends. Went for breakfast on Saturday about 9:00 waited for my waitress when she got there she took my order after 5 cups of coffee we got our food it was hot and presentable but very small portions must got the small small egg day my wife's was small too the restaurant was very cold to when you got zip up your coat and eat your meal that's cold. This place was surprisingly good. I've come here several times with relatives, for both the breakfast and for the Friday fish fry. I've stuck to the omelets and skillets, which have been invariably good; the fish, too, are tasty. Prices seemed a bit iffy but not bad, service was good, and the food came in a pretty short time, even though we usually go on Sunday mornings. But beware your first impression of the restaurant, as it's in a struggling strip-mall and has a rather bizarre, open interior - it's much better than you'd imagine. read more

I have been there many times, its the only restaurant I really like around here. I love there breakfast menu, it is huge (there are so many options) and it is always cooked great. I love there dinners and the lunches also. The food always has great flavor and the servers are really friendly, they seem to go out of their way to make sure you are taken care of and our coffee cups are constantly being filled. There has only been once or twice when I had a slightly longer wait, but when you are trying to bring in more business you have a hard time figuring out the amount of staff you should call in. The cook does a great job!!! I sure hope the people in this area gives them the business as they are a young couple trying to make it work. I would love to see them succeed and then maybe they could redo the floor and other things to make it more updated. SO COME ON EVERYONE LETS SHOW THEM OUR SUPPORT!!!!!!!!
