This was my first time to Amelia's! Came here on a random whim because it was in the area and we hadn't tried it! The PLACE (iykyk) had a variety of options; tacos (it was taco night in a Monday night; $1 tacos), burgers, pasta and pizza. I ended up getting a blooming onion and a pizza. Both pretty good but nothing to brag about. I enjoyed both and that's what really matters. I think Amelia's is a good stop for anyone who's having a hard time picking what they might be in the mood for. Service was very friendly. Our waitress seemed new, but it wasn't anything that caused issues. There is parking, which is convenient. There is outdoor seating but it seemed closed down that night; but the weather wasn't the best, it had rained earlier in the day. But it's there! :) Ambiance is kitschy pub casual and I suppose in honor of Amelia Earhart there were lots of plane decor! read more

Friendly bar and American food restaurant. Reasonable prices even though right next to the airport. Mostly regulars, and very busy on weekends. Good fish fry, some very inexpensive special every day. Took me a while to get the airport airplane theme in spite of the name and the plane statue in plain view. So popular there's not quite enough parking, but street parking is a short walk. read more

Come here for the soup! Check out the fun airplane vintage hanging about in honor of "Queen of the Air" Amelia Earhart. The service was top notch with our server offering some recommendations before we ordered and going above and beyond making sure we were well taken care of throughout our meal. We also ordered the onion strings which were so tasty, the patty melt, also top notch, and the club sandwich, flavors packed a punch, everything was so fresh. I think this business does a lot of carry out for the area because they seemed very busy! Come check it out. I stopped here on Sunday to catch the Amelias 29th annual car show and have a beer lunch. The show was so packed with cars that they spilled out into the streets and no way I'm getting my car in so I would not enter this one and just be a spectator today. The car show had a nice assortment of classic cars and very little modern cars, not that I don't like modern cars but you see them on the streets all the time where the classics are rare to see. The cars were all styles from stock to race cars and everything in between in various conditions. Well my bar beer lunch idea faded pretty fast when I walked in because every spot at the bar full. As you walk in the bar is on the right with the dining room to the left and I didn't want to do the dining room and I wanted a bar spot. This was my first bar/restaurant car show where I could not get a seat at the bar so that will have to wait for another day. read more

As a born and raised person from Milwaukee, went to this restaurant 32 years ago when it first opened. Came back tonight, it has not changed, dark and dingy and the food is absolutely horrible. I ordered a Cajun chicken sandwich and the chicken itself if I was lucky, was 1/8 of an inch thick. Must've been a pre-frozen chicken patty because they just dumped the Cajun seasoning on top. Fun supper club type atmosphere with an airplane theme. You can see General Mitchell field from the parking lot. My favorite is their jumbo shrimp. Very tasty! The service is awesome and friendly. They have free popcorn as a snack, so that makes it even better. Cool memorabilia, about guess who? Outdoor seating is available, it is kid friendly inside the Restaurant portion. They do have a full service bar that they staff appropriately. You never wait that next beverage. It gets a little crowded on Friday nights. Fantastic place for a small group. read more

have been eating at amelias for a few years. stopped for lunch friday and swas very dissapointed. the flowering onion was cold and soggy. the waitress spent more time chattingwith a bar patron then taking care of customers. after waiting 25 minutes for my order i walked back to the kitchen to see if anyone was there. i saw my meal sitting on the shelf when i finally got the servers attention she went back to get it. when i finally got it, it was cold, i sent it back , and when she brought it back it looked like it was microwaved. new servers, cooks. i think the owner should check on his business, he is going to lose a lot of customers. i for one will be having lunch somewhere else. my bill was $50.00 and i left a $5.00 tip. i will be going to applebees. read more

I have not been to this restaurant in 30 years. It is great to see it thrive. I had the lasagna and it was yummy. My husband had the baked cod with mashed potatoes. Also nicely done. The Italian bread was soft. The service was very friendly and quick. The waitress came back ample times to ensure we were satisfied. The interior is nicely renovated. Clean and comfortable. Long and detailed. tldr: What used to be a reliable, tasty place has succumbed to poor quality substitutions and debatable business practices. Absent waitstaff and charged different prices than posted without a word. Quality has plummeted. Pre-Covid, we would stop at Amelia's occasionally. It is a bit out of our way, so If the timing was right, or we were looking for a change for FIsh Fry, We would stop in. Tonight was our first time Post-covid. We dine out enough to know things have changed, service / staffing yada yada... This was damn near abysmal. Started out OK as these things do. Needed a little time with the menu because starving child is the epitomy of Hangry. The Waitress returned after a reasonable time. Orders were placed (with a note that the applesauce is "homemade"[hmmm].) Soup came out quickly and looked promising except for the amount pooled on the napkin beneath the bowl. Unfortunately it was dumpling-free Chicken Dumpling, but we did not see the waitress again to ask about the missing dumplings. She did eventually return with our plates in two oddly spaced installments (an odd delay between the first 2 and the second). Chicken Parm sandwich was reported to be acceptable. The Hangry child had a chicken wrap, so reporting on this was unreliable. (He claims it was horrible). The Amelia Burger was vitually unseasoned. The biggest issue was the Top Gun steak sandwich. Ordered Medium Rare, it came out on the rarer side. It is described on the menu as "Tenderloin steak char grilled your way with sauteed mushrooms and onions" for $15. The sandwich was served an a burger bun that was far from upto the task made wore by the fact that it was TOUGH. I don't know how cheap the piece was, or how poorly butchered it was. This was not tender in any sense of the word. I should have sent it back after the first two bites had me looking like a barbarian ripping hanks of sinew from bone. I decided to cut it with the included steak knife. I had to saw my way through. I should have stopped there and waited for the waitress to return. Ultimately, I litterally choked down 2/3 of it. 1/3 of it was beyond attempting. of this whole sandwich there was 1 bite that actually had me believing this was tenderloin. The rest was like rubber. To top it off, like the burger, it seems the kitchen forgot to season it. It didn't even taste grilled it was so under-seasoned. So wh didn't I ask for something else? After delivering the food, a refilled drink and a requested condiment (but before anything was consumed) she disappeared. It was not until everything consumable was consumed that she returned and asked if Hangry child wanted a box. Again a disappearing act for 10+ minutes. My wife was standing waiting to go, which caught the bartender's attention, and our waitress dropped the bill. This is when things got worse. That $15 rubberband was charged at $17. I looked around for a menu - convieniently nowhere to be found, so I looked online. The posted menu says $15. What I overheard from a neighboring table now made sense. That patron was complaining that they got overcharged. Their waitress said that it states on the menu "Prices subject to change." Looked at the online menu, there it was, under the warning about eating undercooked meat. I mentioned it to the waitress when she came back after another disappearing act. Prices have gone up, the owners are aware and refuse to do anything. "So you are aware of this and said nothing when it was ordered?" crickets. Had I been aware of the higher price, I would never have gone past the 1st two bites. read more

Ordered two steak dinners on April 30, 2022 for $20 each per the menu price listed. When the bill came we were charged $23 for each. The waitress brought this to the attention of the owner at our request and he refused to take off the overcharge. This is insane. Is this even legal? I've been to Amelia's several times. They offer daily specials, which you can check out on their website. Last night was Mexican Monday Madness. They had $1 short margaritas and mai tais, $3 for a tall. I started with a Mai Tai, and it was definitely from a premade mix. My fiancée had a regular margarita on the rocks, also from a mix and too sweet for him (I finished it). I then opted for a mango margarita.... that was a solid choice. It was blended, not as sweet as our previous drinks, and pretty tasty. I ordered the tacos and a side of beans. $1 for ground beef, $1.50 for steak and chicken, and choice of hard or soft shell. I tried all 3 on soft shells. I think the chicken was my favorite, it was seasoned really well and the meat was super tender. The other two were not bad, especially for the price. I appreciated that they loaded all 3 with lots of meat, plus the usual toppings of lettuce, tomato, cheese. The beans were meh, they were refried and nothing spectacular. Joe had a chicken chimichanga with a side of rice and beans. I got to try the chimichanga, it was really yummy!! It was packed full of the same delicious shredded chicken I had in my taco and lots of cheese. He said the rice and beans were also meh; they just weren't flavorful. We have been here previously for Friday Fish Fry. This is a hot spot in the community, it is always packed on a Friday evening. They offer all you can eat cod or smelt as well as other fish options (including baked). I have always enjoyed the fish fry, I prefer the cod. It has a light batter and is very meaty. The French fries are simple yet delightful... I love fries! Service is kind of hit or miss. Sometimes it is very good, the server is friendly but sometimes it is rather lackluster. The servers are always attentive, it is just the demeanor/attitude (the whole appearance/attitude of "I love my job" versus "When will my shift ever end?" or "I hate my job."). Food usually comes out pretty quick. Amelia's is easy to find, and overall a good place to stop to/from the airport. I'm teetering between 3 and 4 stars - I'll bump it up to 4 just because the food is pretty solid and relatively inexpensive. Plus, who doesn't love fish frys and Mexican specials??!!? :) read more

Every time we go there on a Friday night the place is packed! I swear everyone on Milwaukee's south side goes there for the fish fry which is pretty decent. However, my favorite on the menu is the hand breaded shrimp. I typically don't like beer batter but it is very light. The shrimp are HUGE (12 to a pound) and you get an entire pound of them. Now to the not so good.....who has a menu that is three pages? No restaurant can do a great job with a huge menu. For example, if you ever eat a dinner and it has vegetables you might as well just throw them away. They are mushy and bland and have been cooking for hours. I actually thought they were canned because they were so disgusting. I normally don't say this but "stay away from the veggies" at all costs. The fish dry and the shrimp are definitely the stars at Amelia's. For $13 the broiled cod is decent but expensive for the portion size. Stick with the deep fried goodness and you won't be disappointed. Lunches are consistent but the portions are almost too big. They used to make home made dressings for the salads which is always a plus in my book. The food is pretty solid but don't expect to be blown away by anything. read more

Late on a Friday night and needed a good meal. If your at all familiar with MKE you know "If it's Friday, it's fish fry day!" So sone one suggested we try this local place close to the airport. They eat at Amelia's my the airport and you can't miss it cause it's the place with the plane on the roof. So we rolled into Amelia's place and I was in Nirvana. They got AYCE fried Cod or Smelt. If your not familiar with Smelt it's a small lake fish that has a bit of fishy taste but it's soo good. Any hoodle got the 1/2 Cod 1/2 Smelt AYCE, and it came out fast, hot and was a large portion of food. I can say that the serving size is huge, the Cod is thick, and not overly battered and cooked to perfection. The Smelt was just as I remember it and just as good. The size of the plate makes it hard to AYCE but this is not expensive and a great value. So when in MKE on a Friday night make sure you land at Amelia's for a solid Milwaukee Friday fish fry meal. read more

We grabbed the last spot in the small lot, arriving around 6:30. But it seemed to only get busier from there. Our waitress wasn't the most attentive, but she was visibly hurrying between tables. We ordered a dark and stormy, and my partner said he felt like every sip was like taking a shot lol. So drinks are strong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but not really what we wanted. We both ordered fish fries. One all you can eat, one "small" - which was really just a normal fish fry size. It came with two generous portions of fish. The cod was pretty good. My partner had smelt, which he liked more than I did. It tasted a little too fishy fish stick to me, and I've had smelt I enjoyed more. Next time I'd probably try the baked cod, as it came with a nice variety like cajun seasoned? I don't see many baked cod options most places. I enjoyed the house-made chips, but wasn't a fan of no potato pancake upgrade. They have to be ordered separately for $4. It works out if you want to split with another person, but then you have your fries, tots, etc. in addition. Not a big complaint though. Overall it was an ok. The crowd left something to be desired, with an older lady shouting at the table next to us, and older men at the bar making jokes about Pride Fest. Milwaukee has a lot of fish fry competition, so it probably won't be my first choice. I live close, so I'll probably return at some point though. My family of Wisconsinites has made it our mission to try a new fish fry every week -- but we might be back again to Amelia's. Huge pieces of cod that were lightly breaded and golden-flaky. Homemade tartar sauce tasted like it had a touch of pickle relish -- yum. French fries had the perfect amount of salt. Coleslaw was sweet and creamy. All you can eat and reasonably priced. The bar atmosphere is very dark and Cheers-esque with 80s color decor. One of those bars where you can look at the person across the way. Loved that. Did NOT love the back room we ate in -- super bright with slow service and screaming kids. read more

Went up to the Bar on a Friday night and waited for over 15 minutes to either be greeted by someone, said hello to, or even acknowledge. Didn't happen! Even sat right in front of the register. No "Hello", no "I'll be right with you!" A couple at the bar sat right next to me and was served within 2 minutes. Full drinks and change back from what was owed. Me!? Still sitting! After 15 minutes, no one even said Hello, I walked out. Again, I was right in front of the register and not one of the 2 lady bartenders said a thing! Worked in restaurants, worked at bars, and even worked with the hospitality business for years!, but was never miss treated like here! When by passed over someone who just sat down next to me, shows only thing.
