    French Onion Soup

Stopped by the Brick the other day for football weekend brunch. The Bloody & French Onion soup were very good. I'll need to give the kitchen a bigger culinary test next time ;) The service was fast & friendly. And the ambiance very nice - the restaurant is fresh and up-to-date. Give The Brick a try - well worth it

Very mediocre. Fish was over cooked. The place was so loud. Service very slow. We probably won't be back.

Pet friendly patio is why we came. I ordered the vegetable panini. I've had better at the Public Market downtown. But the tater tots were on point. Crispy on the outside like they should be. Now my spouse ordered the gyro and waffle fries. Both were delicious. Perhaps it is a place where it is better to stick with the meats. For tea drinkers, there is only Lipton tea. But it is served in a small pot, which I enjoy. Service was fast and attentive. Overall would return and go with a non-vegetarian option.

The Brick is our neighborhood go to spot. Cornhole and dart leagues, live music, community events, fundraisers, and great food all organized by owners who are genuinely invested in the neighborhood they are a part of. Generally speaking, service is good. There are a fair number of long-term staff here who always go out of their way to make you feel welcome and valued. This is a great spot to stop in and eventually call your own "go to."

Our new go to brunch spot! We were craving a Bloody Mary to start our Super Bowl Sunday, and they delivered that and much more. Bloody Mary's were delicious, but the brunch was even better! I enjoyed my veggie scramble but ended up stealing most of my husbands eggs Benedict, whoops. Their hollandaise sauce is perfection. The waitress was friendly and efficient. Appreciated that they had a room separate from the bar to enjoy our meal with the kiddo! Tip: pay in cash to avoid a 3.4% credit card fee!

The Brick has long been a favorite of ours, and we appreciate how close it is for us--we can walk here when the weather is decent. We would come here even more when they were doing trivia (sad face that they stopped suddenly). We stopped in recently while waiting for our newly refinished hardwood floors to dry enough that we could walk on them--our first indoor meal of 2020! We were promptly greeted and offered a table or booth and selected the corner booth. My teriyaki chicken mac and cheese was quite tasty, the chicken had great flavor and an external crunch that many places cannot get right (are you listening, Pizza Shuttle?), though the giant pieces of broccoli were a misstep, especially since you needed a knife to cut the veggies into bite-sized pieces. That and some slight service delays on the back end of the meal denied this visit all five-stars, but four is nothing to sneeze at!

Date of visit: November 20, 2025…read more We had not been here in years, but came with some friends for the Milwaukee County Historical Society trivia. It definitely seemed that the staff here were simply not prepared for the volume of people that came out to celebrate the area and support the Historical Society. Emma, our server, was definitely trying, but not always succeeding, neglecting to enter in some parts of the order until far later into the evening (our friends didn't receive their order of garlic bread for about 45 minutes after their entrees were delivered) though oddly enough, she was always ready to bring someone another alcoholic beverage. Thankfully the food I had was pretty good, the grilled cheese sandwich paired well with their tomato bisque soup--I took a chance on the soup not being a traditional tomato soup fan (Campbell's? Gross!) but I found Three Lions version to be hearty and flavorful, definitely a combo that I would get again in the future. I would just come on a night when they could keep up with the crowds far better! Pro tip: Ask for croutons for the soup, they elevated a good soup to an amazing soup.

Service has always been friendly and efficient, even when it's busy. It feels like a true neighborhood pub rather than a themed bar, which is exactly why it stands out. Great place to relax, watch soccer, and actually enjoy the experience.

Lots of people, particularly in the warm months when high schoolers are hanging out at DQ. This unassuming neighborhood pub is much larger inside, and more popular, than you would expect just driving by. There are tons of tvs showing every possible sporting event and a packed house - I seem to always get the last available table. It has a townie vibe, with the dim lighting, nightly specials, an excellent Friday Fish Fry (with the option of potato pancakes - SO GOOD), and delicious burgers. No Coors on tap here but they have Stella (woohoo!). Despite living near this pub since 2010, I've only recently discovered how good the food was here. Overall, it reminds me of a "grown up" mini BBC (the beloved gone-but-never-forgotten North Ave establishment) with better food. Definitely worth checking out if you are hungry and in the area!

The place is a bar/restaurant with the bar on one half and a dining room on the other half. It's a nice looking place with a cool bar, blue under bar lighting, color on the walls with exposed duct work. Service was a little slow in the beginning to get my Bloody Mary spicy. The Bloody Mary was average with a lacking of toppings because it's one olive and a crunchy/crisp pickle spear, kind of pathetic looking. I ordered the Wisco burger and I was asked how I wanted it cooked and I said as rare as possible because you can't undercook it but definitely overcook it with seasoned frys. The Wisco burger is 1/3 pound patty, bacon, sautéed onions, beer cheese on a pretzel bun. My plate looked good but the absence of the blood red juices leaking into the bun meant that it's overcooked and sure it was because it's not rare at all so why even ask how I want it cooked, it's always been 50/50 if I actually get a rare piece of meat. Otherwise the bun was fresh with crispy bacon and the messy cheese soup so let's give the guy one thin napkin for this hand mess he just ordered. The patty seemed fresh because it was tender with out the harder texture of a frozen patty, actually a decent burger. The seasoned frys were seasoned nicely and cooked to order hot and crispy with the skin on, pretty good. Overall was it the best burger in town, no. Was it good for what it was, yes and cooked to order hot frys is always a plus.

I surprisingly don't have many options in my "MKE - Fish Fry" collection that are near downtown, but Swinging Door Exchange was one of them. I was pressed for time, so I placed a to go order rather than dining in. I got the combo fish fry (two pieces of cod, two pieces of perch, and three fried shrimp) with potato pancakes. I was also very easily talked into the half rack rib appetizer. The ribs were good, even though I prefer sauce that's more sweet and smokey. Their sauce was on the tangy side with a tease of spice that really only became noticeable when the majority of the half rack was gone. If I were in the mood for ribs as my main meal, I'd consider getting theirs as an entree. The two potato pancakes weren't homemade; instead, they were premade hash brown patties that some other restaurants also serve with their fish frys. These were perfectly acceptable in lieu of homemade pancakes. The cod tasted great, but the breading didn't hold up very well. Either the fish itself was too wet or the two block walk back to my car allowed for condensation to wreck it or possibly both. The perch was not yellow lake perch but probably something like pike perch. Even though both kinds of fish and the shrimp were all good sized portions, $29 feels like a lot. I wouldn't say no to it, though, if I were dining in next time and avoid the extra cost of their takeout fee. Shout-out to the bartenders working that night. The bar area was absolutely packed, but both of the ones I talked to about placing my order were friendly and helpful even with being super busy.

Now there are two things that didn't go well. The first is the Lancashire hotpot. Traditional ones are supposed to have thin potatoes all covered over the top. This one only had a few on the side. See the picture below. The menu even said "topped with potatoes." The stew itself just tasted like ground beef in beef broth. It was sad. Service was not good. Our server never checked on us the whole night after taking our order. We couldn't get any drink refills and had to flag down a different server to close out our order.
