This pub is alright. I will start with the things that I enjoyed. The vibes are great. Nice crowd of people. The atmosphere and decor are warm, moody, and cozy as one would expect from a British pub. Prices are decent for the Brady area. The scotch eggs were good. Small and delicious bites of protein goodness. My favorite thing was the fish fry/fish and chips. The fish was the best part because it was flaky with a light, crispy batter. Now there are two things that didn't go well. The first is the Lancashire hotpot. Traditional ones are supposed to have thin potatoes all covered over the top. This one only had a few on the side. See the picture below. The menu even said "topped with potatoes." The stew itself just tasted like ground beef in beef broth. It was sad. Service was not good. Our server never checked on us the whole night after taking our order. We couldn't get any drink refills and had to flag down a different server to close out our order. I generally enjoy British food and will come back to give them another chance. The Old Speckled Hen ale was fine. But I made the mistake of ordering the lamb pasty. It was made of shredded chicken. Not a bit of lamb. And since when are pasty's filled with rice? The crust was not a pasty crust but a soggy mess. Oy! My wife's fish sandwich was good, she reported. And her chips were proper chips, so there's that. read more

Awesome cozy British pub with some of the most delish beer-battered cheese curds I've had. Came in on a Wednesday night before a bucks game, and were able to squeeze in a happy hour drink. Our server was fantastic, she did a great job managing both the tables and the patrons at the bar. After whetting our appetite with the curds and an order of the Caesar Brussels sprouts, I was too full for a main but others enjoyed their burgers ($6 burger night on Wednesday!) I have this terrible tendency to absorb any screen in a public space, so my absence of the bartenders name is entirely my error. It goes so far as to watching subtitled commercials about medications that I don't need. But my man chopped it up with me for a good while, providing company in the early stages. He later solidified his status with a sampler of this soccer ball cocktail promotion that any locals need to keep their eyes peeled for. Ingenious tactics dropping soon. Also, whatever Pineapple Express concoction he made for a gentlemen beside me looked pretty as can be. Magnificently vibrant, just like Aaron Craft's rosacea in the closing minutes of the Big 10 Tournament. As for the edible components of Red Lion, I may have choosing poorly. Either 1000 Island sauce is expensive or they have a lazy understanding of how moist a Reuben needs to be. I'm looking for the bread to soak through and eventually create orange trails from my hands to my propped up elbows. To give a shout, the portion was fat which is necessary for a $15 tag. I'd venture here for more brown liquid and soccer, but might snag a bite elsewhere at the halftime interval depending on future results. Portugal vs Czechia did cleanse my palate before some abysmal beach volleyball. Tarp off cellys are worth the yellow card in every level of the wonderful game. read more

It's been a few years because we moved out of town but the breakfast was absolute disappointing rip off. $17 for a cold English breakfast which was honestly a pathetic excuse for a real English breakfast??? Get out of here. Avo toast was also very disappointing for $14 and tasted like it came out of a bag with quality equal to Taco Bell quac. Will not return. I love this spot for happy hour and especially for their fish fry. The bar is English pub style. There is plenty of seating downstairs, upstairs, and out on the roof. There is always plenty of bartenders and servers who are perfection. They are quick, sweet, and attentive. My last visit was to watch a Bucks playoff game. They have plenty of TVs downstairs but also project onto a screen. The bar was busy but not packed or too loud. I had a nice time chatting with the bartenders. The fish fry, as always, was amazing. I love that they serve it with Malt Vinegar! It is one large fillet that comes over a bed of thick cut fries. Everything is fried to perfection; crispy and flaky. There is plenty of parking outside but I always recommend a ride share or bus. Especially if you plan to have a drink because their old fashioneds are excellent and kind of addicting!! read more

This is a real-deal British pub, from the outside to the inside. The English-pub vibe is dripping from the walls and ceiling! Gotta love that huge Union Jack covering the entire ceiling. We arrived mid-afternoon, so it was not busy. Our service was quick and the food arrived promptly. I liked that the menu leaned heavily towards English pub food items. The cheese curds had a light crunchy coating. My wife described her 'fish n' chips' order as the best she has ever eaten. The breading was light, flaky, crunchy. Not over-seasoned and oily. There was plenty on the plate for 2. I really enjoyed my Shepards pie. It was prepared just the way it should: loaded with meat, both ground and chunks of lamb. You could taste the red wine reduction soaked into the meat. All covered with smooth cheesy mashed potatoes. It was all washed down with a tall glass of Guinness. Cool pub. Really good food. First time here. I'm not sure if l, when we did decide to order it was a while before getting someone to wait on us. I'm sure us siting at a table having brought our drinks didn't help us. When our server did show and he was nice, however it take take over 20min to get water for the table. The food was ok. And this is just my personal option, the fish was a little bland, as was the breading and coleslaw. The fries did have some seasoning on them but some of them were cold in the middle. Great, classic English pub with two floors of seating and a nice rooftop patio. Our server was very nice and had great suggestions, and our food came out relatively quickly. My husband ordered the Bangers and Mash, and I chose the Reuben. The Bangers came with 2 1/2 sausages on top of an extremely large bed of hand-mashed potatoes. So large, that cutting back on the portion size wouldn't have subtracted from the authenticity or deliciousness of the dish. The corned beef on the Reuben was tender, and there was the perfect amount of swiss cheese and fresh sauerkraut. The 1000 Island dressing was thick and tangy, and I appreciated it being served on the side. I ordered my sandwich with a side of "chips" which were thick steak fries. A great cut you don't see too much of anymore. For dessert, our server suggested the Beignets. There were six small pieces served flaky and hot. A fantastic ending to our meal. I've never been to England but I'd imagine this is kinda what a pub would look like sans British accents. Dark wood, chill venue with some surprising food. I started with their house soup which tasted like spicy queso dip with chunks of tender, moist chicken. Seriously I felt like I should've had tortilla chips rather than the crusty dinner roll (which would've been amazing with some good butter but was still tasty dipped in the soup). The cheese curds. Dear god. They were like stringy clouds of salty deliciousness. They melted in your mouth with the delicate light batter and gooey curd. Puffs of cheese heaven. Extra bonus points for not being crazy salty like a lot of curds get due to salty batter. My cousin had the fish and chips which was textbook perfect. The same light batter on tender, flaky cod and served on thick and potatoey steak fries - sorry, chips. It came with a good balanced tartar sauce and okay coleslaw (not much flavor, definitely needed vinegar) I got the pan fried walleye which was my only real complaint about the meal. It was cooked a bit too hot because the fish was moist and tender but the outside had several spots of almost burnt breading that overpowered the fish with an acrid, sour taste. I still ate almost all my fish after scraping off the breading, so meal salvaged. The potato pancake was dense and cooked well, crispy outside but tender inside and a lot of thyme for a nice earthy flavor. Potato pancakes are the only time you'll see me put apples on a potato. The service was excellent and friendly, very nice atmosphere with some great British rock playing (they had me at Queen). Definitely a place to try when you're in the area. read more

Hit the Red Lion Pub as part of a Yelp Elite promo. Brought my husband and daughter and made a lunch of it. The place is cozy with a long bar on the lower lever that easily seats 11-15 people. Less no due to covid restrictions and more (I assume) when restrictions are lifted. There also appears to be an upstairs but we didn't venture there and opted to sit at the bar. My husband ordered a grilled buffalo chicken wrap. He really like it especially because it had red peppers and onions in it. It also has tomatoes in it, although the menu and bartender said it didn't. It was good enough to pick out the onions and eat the entire wrap. The fries are steak fries, which were seasoned appropriately. Not my favorite style of fries but solid. My daughter and I ordered the Baked Tomato. The description reads, "Premium house-made, creamy tomato soup topped with a grilled cheese sandwich and locally sourced fresh mozzarella and cheddar, baked into a dish." We weren't entirely sure what to expect but were very pleased with our meal. The soup is a thick soup making it easy for the grilled cheese to sit on top. By baking the dish, the cheese had a beautiful crust to it. Perfect if you looking for a light soup and salad option. The bathroom was super clean and a good size. Red Lion is one of my favorite spots in Milwaukee. The vibe is great and they have an amazing patio that's perfect for brunch in the summer where they have their giant mimosas. Last night we went to their Thursday night trivia and it was an absolute blast! The questions are on the speakers throughout the entire bar, so you can sit anywhere and still play. Our server was awesome and super patient with our larger group. You can also pay online with your phone, which is super quick and easy. One of my fav British pubs in the area! Love so many things here - the eggs, the hummus seems healthier to me here but also they have fries (or chips :)) that can be added which is awesome.. but my absolute favorite is their Sticky Toffee Pudding here - always brings back such lovely memories from London. The service is always so great here.. the staff is lovely and they always get your order on time and talk to you about the different options. I can't say necessarily I get the same experience everywhere so I love places where people are friendly and welcoming and are more than just the food or drinks. We moved to Brewer's Hill in may and shortly thereafter we were searching for a brunch place within walking distance on a Sunday. COVID limited our options, and honestly I'm glad it did as it allowed us to stumble upon Red Lion. The first time we went for brunch we were the only ones on the patio. Service was great - as we were the only people there at 10 on a Sunday! A few weeks later we returned and on that particular Sunday there was a soccer match and it was packed - service was still good and efficient despite the many large groups! On visit one I ordered the breakfast burrito - post store are an odd choice for a burrito but they totally worked and it was delicious! On trip two I ordered chicken and a biscuit - fried chicken, biscuit, mashed potatoes and sausage gravy. Far from healthy...but so so good! I also ordered some sort of Moscow mule that was peach flavored - maybe it was a special? Either way it was great and I'd highly recommend you try it! Since those two trips Red Lion has become our go to for comfort food take out - fish & chips, Lion pasty, and fried chicken and mashed potatoes - they are all super flavorful, well made, and travel well to our dinning room! The food is always excellent with a good selection of draft beers (the fish and chips is top notch and I personally recommend pairing it with a Smithwicks). The Red Lion Pub is such a fun & unique place for brunch, watching a game, or anything in between - everyone should come here at least once! First off, the space itself is really cool. It's decorated as if you're in a traditional London pub, there's plenty of tables and bar space inside downstairs and upstairs, but they also have a wonderful outdoor table and bar area for when it's nice INCLUDING a life sized billiards game where you kick soccer balls to play. The staff is very friendly and it seems like having a British accent is a requirement for working here which is amazing. The the menu is reason enough to come here. Where else can you find Scotch Eggs, Irish Nachos, Poutine, Fish & Chips, Bangers & Mash, Chicken Curry, a Full English Breakfast, and more all in the same place? Red Lion Pub is a British style pub in Milwaukee's lower east side (sister bar/restaurant to Three Lions Pub in Shorewood). I came for lunch and upon realization that it was a British pub (I'd somehow missed the memo prior to arrival, but if the array of British beers on the menu and the fact that they serve a salad called, "the Brit," didn't clue me in, the British flag mural on the ceiling certainly did). Since then, I've discovered that there are over 600 (unaffiliated) Red Lion Pubs in Great Britain. So, I guess I should have known. Who knew?! Obviously, not this girl. Finding out it was a British pub and further finding out they have Bangers & Mash on the menu, immediately made me want to order it. Mostly just to say it. But, upon realizing that I wasn't exactly sure if I liked bangers. And, beyond that wasn't sure that if I DID like bangers, I'd like them all up on my mash, I opted for the chicken caesar wrap and British chips. The wrap came absolutely stuffed with chicken. They definitely did not skimp. The British chips, if you're wondering, are much like what I would call steak fries. They were piping hot, salty deliciousness. I also enjoyed a bottle of Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout, which was tasty. The service was friendly and perfectly prompt. I hear they have a pretty awesome patio in warmer months (complete with oversized/life sized pool table? Whaaaa?!?!) so will definitely be back to check that out. From the area, wanted to try something new, food looked good on the website but omg was it disgusting. Keep in mind this a "British" restaurant so the food is a little different but I ordered a basic bacon cheeseburger with chips (French fries) and it was the grossest thing I've had in the city. The burger was burnt, tasted like propane and the bacon was raw, the chips were raw and beer was clearly from a dirty tap. And to top it off the hostess when walking was rude. When we walked in I asked "is it seat yourself?" And he goes "there's a sign out side..." and didn't even make eye contact. Just over all bad experience. Don't even get me started on my fiancés food. I came the other night for trivia that they do on Thursdays and it's a blast. Trivia is $1/person and prizes include gift cards and drinks. The food is always good and the staff is always so conversational and attentive. I highly recommend Red Lion for any meal! This place is a soccer bar & I am a football (American football) fan but they have multiple TVs for Sunday games where the leagues play at same time. The beer prices were good for craft beer, $6 a pint. Good for a downtown area especially. The environment was cool, lots of nice decor. Went to Red Lion on a Friday afternoon to try their fish and chips for the first time, and was immediately asked by the friendly greeter "Are you here for the free beer?" What the?? I thought he was pulling my leg but it was true! For a limited time they are offering free beer on Friday afternoons from 4-6 PM. I was not disappointed by the terrific fish and chips. They definitely lived up to their description, a huge piece of cod that was cooked to perfection, deliciously light and flaky. They also had Old Speckled Hen on tap, one of my fav British beers. From the lovely lady in the "Dr. Who Scarf" who so kindly put on the fight to JP the fine Scotsman with impeccable Black Velvet pouring skills...I had an amazing time.
