Lively environment, fast service and tasty food - what more could anyone want! We had a pitcher of the pumpkin lager ($20 and $2 off for happy hour) and tried the crispy chicken sandwich ($18) and the grilled Monterey chicken ($18). The crispy chicken sandwich was fresh and I loved the sirachi mayo. However, they used maybe 6 small tenders between the two sandwiches, so I got a lot of breading and not much chicken. The grilled Monterey chicken did lean on the dry side, but they were generous with the avocado and bacon! The fries were fresh out of the fryer which are always a win. Would recommend coming here for game days or trivia! read more

My friend and I started stopping in at Hooligan's for a drink before our MKE film monthly movie at the Oriental Theater. We may have stopped in a few times during the Film Festival as well. They have a Pineapple Screwdriver on the drink menu that is amazing. So refreshing. We order it every time. Now we just have to open the door and the bartender says, "Two pineapple screwdrivers," and grabs the glasses. We feel like Norm from Cheers there. It is a very welcoming place. The food is good too. And always more than I can eat. read more

Casual Irish pub with solid food menu. Busy spot to watch games. Extensive beer selection on tap Had Pilsner Urquell which is 1 of my favorites. They have a good size outside patio although it was too cold when we visited. Maybe next time. We had a chicken sandwich & a burger. Both were tasty especially the burger. 5 stars for our friendly waitress Hayley Thanks for sharing your great Spotify playlist! read more

Finally got to try this place after always driving past and overall, the food was just okay! It's nice that they have a second floor for dining, it was definitely much quieter (came on a Friday night!). Very cozy and warm inside which was what we were looking for because of the cold. We ordered the fish fry and chili and chili was very underwhelming. Not much flavor, it's housemade and came out a bit cold! I generally prefer my chili with more depth im flavor for sure. Cheese and Sourcream are extra too so it definitely made it not worth it to me in the end. Fish fry was decent! I liked the crispyness of the fries and fish, definitely didnt miss with that. But like I said, overall, food wasnt that impressive. My mom had ordered an old fashion too and I'm sure they thought they were doing her a favor with making it strong but she couldnt even finish it. Our waiter was great tho, truly appreciated his service and the friendlyness. Maybe just a nice spot for drinking read more

Had the chipotle catfish sandwich and it was hands down best catfish sandwich I ever tasted. Will be back soon.

I am shocked that this isn't a five star restaurant!!! This is the most quality bar food in the city, hands down best burgers in town!!! we especially love the Hooli burger, and the tuna melt, when they're on the menu. Fries are always buss and the staff is so sweet and friendly. Gorgeous interior, super cozy with a beautiful bar. Truly a Milwaukee landmark/treasure!!! read more

Food was delicious. Blue cheese coleslaw was the best! Loved the atmosphere and choice of beer. Crowd was warm and friendly! read more

I had the best hotdog here! My mom and I are members of MKE Film and Hooligan's is always the best before/after stop. The Reuben rolls on our previous visit were delicious however our mouths were watering at the neighboring person's hotdog. I had them add cheese to my dog, it was so good. They aren't the speediest with food but it is worth the wait. They have a great happy hour special. My mom's drink of choice is a vodka gimlet, $4 on HH and $6 normally. I always really enjoy trying what they have on special. I enjoyed Side Dish from Boulevard Brewing for $3.50. Staff here are great. Always friendly. They even moved some bar stools around for us so I didn't have to stand. Looking forward to coming back next month. read more

Food: 3.7/5: got the chicken tenders, they were good, but not amazing. Fries were pretty good. I'd say the ranch was also tasty Service: 4.5/5: they were quick with my drinks and food. Also seemed to know some people, which is a good sign for a neighborhood bar Ambience 4/5: downstairs was small, I didn't check out the upstairs though. They had college football on all the TVs which was nice. Overall: 4/5. A good local spot with quality service. Id go back to snag some beers. Excited to try it when it's nice out read more

The service was absolutely the worst, and my burger was overcooked and dry when it did arrive. The problem was that we waited almost 45 minutes for food, so instead of a relaxing meal, we had 10 mins to gobble down the food before our movie. We told the waitress 30 minutes into the wait, and her response was that we were next in line, but in that extra 15 mins there was no food that was being served anywhere. Obviously there was a problem getting food out. It was the first and last time we will eat there. read more

Amazingly great food. Can't go wrong with any option on their menu! I order almost all their options every time I go here.

Hooligans has absolutely amazing appetizers. I've tried the Reuben Rolls and the Spinach and Artichoke Dip and they were fantastic. The pita chips and tortilla chips that come with the spinach dip are both phenomenal. The Reuben sandwich I had was just okay. The meat was a bit too fatty for me but otherwise the taste was solid. read more

Enjoyed the meal and drinks. The bartenders really seem to work hard to keep you happy, and they do it all with a smile. Overall it's a chill and friendly atmosphere. There was one minor problem, though. This sweaty, heavy-set man kept playing footsie with me at the bar. I asked him to stop, but he giggled and kept at it. I looked at the bartender and she just shrugged. I got the impression that she was used to this person's behavior. I went to the bathroom before I left, and he followed me right in. The weird part was, his pants and underwear were already down by his ankles when he came stumbling in behind me. So the entire bar must have seen him expose himself on his way over. Anyway, he forced himself onto me but fortunately he wasn't very strong. I shoved him off me into a stall. While whimpering, he closed and locked the stall door. I think his name was Patrick. I recommend the onion rings. read more

Hooligan's is an old standby in my neighborhood. They have drinks, they have food. And it's a cozy place with reasonable prices. It reminds me of a sports bar mixed with an old timey pub. It's been awhile but I'm not a huge fan of their fish fry, it was a bit greasy for me. I like their veggie burger and the West Coast Wrap, always get the tots for $1 more. So good and crispy. Recently I had the Caprese sandwich and I was not impressed. I expected a hot sandwich and it comes cold, beware. They have an awesome patio and also a covered patio for the chilly months. With this being an eastside staple you have to check it out if you haven't. Also they're kid friendly for meals. They have a good range of options for meat eaters and non, they even have smoothies! read more

Great fish fry friendly staff nice atmosphere always try to go at least twice a month. Burgers are decent the wings are awesome.

Overall Score: 3.25 Stars (Cheap Beers) Locals go here for reliable meal. Bigger menu, about 7-8 vegetarian options. Homemade hummus with vegetables in the mix like onions, zucchini. Side options are many -tots, soup, salads for 1-2$ upcharge accompanying most selections. Soups of the day, fish, chicken, burgers, melts and appetizers. Menu offered desserts in the milkshake & float department but I didn't try any, nor see any going out. They have lots if taps and different beverage selections. Beer is cheap. Good enough! Thanks read more

A dive-ish type bar in the heart of the East Side. A decent beer selection that doesn't rotate that often, but they have some solid beers on their list. They take sanitation very seriously. Masks required for staff and patrons until orders are made. They have a great patio set up with lots of space and a small amount of indoors seating. They serve food but I haven't eaten here yet. It looks like typical bar food with some variations. A very local place to stop for a beer! read more

Been here a few times. Food is okay, nothing special. Beer list is pretty good but nothing you can't find anywhere else less than a block away. Service is horrible, the common "I don't want to work" attitude from the staff. Was at a table of 4, on 2nd floor, ordered a beer then before I finished my beer the waitress comes and asks "anything else?" Waits 2 seconds max, then stacks my unfinished beer with my friends and says "I'll grab the check". Easily never coming back here ev read more

Went to this place in 2018 after a Brewers vs Cubs game. The food was nothing special, but hit the mark for a bar like this. The beer was cold and the layout was nice, but a drunken patron by the name of Patrick kept chatting me up about his "career" as an author. He gave me his number and told me to call him for copies of his books, I didn't bother, but fate brought us together over political protests and now the guy follows me all over twitter calling me Robert, which isn't even my name. None of that is the bar's fault who seemingly have banned him now, but it always reminds me of Hoolies when I see Pat tweeting to "Robert". read more

I've been living in Milwaukee for many years. I Would consider myself a Milwaukee Restaurant aficionado and honestly this is one of the best bar/restaurants I've been to in the city. The staff is beyond friendly, the bartender even remembered my name after the second time being in. The food is some of the best in the city and it always comes out piping hot, and the tap beer selection is immense. One of best places to get good food and beer in the city. If people are talking crap about this place they are either haters, came on a bad day, or shitty customers. 9.5/10. Highly recommend! read more

Small town bar feel. Awesome menu with options for everyone. We loved the wraps/burgers and the mozzarella sticks. Great local vibes

Great local stop, good drinks, well priced. But the burgers? We had a cremini mushroom melt and a bistro burger, both were coated, dredged in seasoning salt. So salty it burned my lips. No other flavor escaped the salt crust. Our wonderful server asked how we wanted them done, we requested medium rare, they arrived grey. Go for the drinks and atmosphere, but eat elsewhere read more

The food here is actually really good. We got a fish fry walleye and a cod. Both fresh and tasted made in house and noticeably so. Was not a fan of the "whatever" attitude of waitress but I guess I don't expect top end service at a more bar type ambience. I would come back for food only their potato pancake side is amazing read more

This used to be one of my staples when I lived in the east side! They have a great happy hour special Monday-Friday from 4-7 with drink specials and half off appetizers. The ranch is a must to get to dunk your sandwich into.. or your fries. They always have a few delicious sounding specials. I tend to get a veggie sandwich, Philly cheesesteak, or burger. They have a good tap beer selection and it is a great place to sit out on the patio in the summer months. read more

For some reason not much was open near Columbia/St. Mary's until after 11:30 a.m. We had a friend in the hospital and were looking for somewhere within walking distance for lunch. I had been at Hooligan's many years ago during my college days and always had fun there. I didn't remember the food, though The menu is, I would say, typical bar food, but "jazzed" up. We had loaded Tatar tots with delicious beer cheese and bacon. They were really good. I had a cheeseburger on a garlic butter roll that was delicious. Typically the hamburger meat at a bar doesn't have much flavor, but here it was seasoned well and was very tasty. My friend had the Hooligan's version of the Philly cheesesteak which was also delicious. Next time I'm on the east side, I would certainly eat here again! read more

Hooligan's has been around, and serving up above average bar food for a long, long time. Over the years I've grown up, and it seems like Hooligans has too. Examples: *Back in the day, there was this REALLY intense cook who used to man the grill at lunch wearing a thrift store Boy Scouts uniform. Today, I saw cooks with gloves on handle food safely - never would've happened in the old days. (To be fair, today's JT never would haven eaten a burger cooked by a guy in a sketchy Boy Scout uniform) *Old Hooli's didn't have any decor that I can recollect. Today, we both seem to like vintage French advertising posters. *Hooligans of yesteryear basically had burgers and sandwiches, but it was a bar and there were plenty of day drinkers and regulars - specifically The Guy Who Looked Like Keith Richards who appeared to be physically attached to the bar. Today I had handmade chorizo + pork empanadas surrounded by hipsters. Not a drunk in the place. (But the empanadas were delicious) *They've always had a good beer list but gone are the days when you could throw your peanut shells on the floor on $2 import night. *Back when I was first dating the Mister and the time came to introduce him to my dad, we met for lunch at Hooligans. Dad, being a gruffy biker type, introduced himself with "Hey, my name's Bill but you can call me Renegade". The Mister wasn't quite sure what to do with that, and I wanted to die of embarrassment. Now that my dad has passed, I can tell you I would give ANYTHING, anything at all, for one more lunch. Even though it's no longer a one-notch-above-a-dive kind of a place, I still enjoy a good burger here from time to time. read more

Stopped in for lunch beer and trivia. A very large selection of microbrews and beer on tap. I ordered hamburger rare and my buddy wanted the famous Ostrich burger they were out so he had to order a Grilled chicken sandwich with crisp lettuce and fresh tomato the sesame bun was large and light. It came with fresh hot fries and pickle. The burger was perfect as ordered. And came to the bar quickly hand delivered by the chef. I took a bite and looked over to see the watching chef at the pass through bar they really care how the food is received. Brought my mom here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It was too chilly to eat outside, so we sat in the bar area. Despite Hooligan's being a busy bar on Friday nights, the place smelled clean, not like stale beer...this is important! Mom had the Patty Melt with onion rings and I have the Walnut Burger with fries. Mom also had a milkshake made with creme de' menthe. She enjoyed her lunch very much. My walnut burger was delicious! I would highly recommend this if you are tired of standard burgers, looking for something a little lighter, or you're a vegetarian. The flavor was much better than a standard veggie burger. I will definitely order this dish again! read more

I've been here several times since I moved here as the patio is one of our favorite places to relax. This past time the service was the worst. We ordered food and my burger came out completely wrong. The waitress looked at me and said "Well, what would you like me to do?". I was completely stupefied as I have never in my life been asked such an insulting question. I posted my fiasco on FB @Hooligan's page but I do not really believe they care. Unbelievable that a paying customer who tips well would have to deal with such horrid service. Not sure when I'll be back and that sucks because normally this place is not so bad. read more

I've been craving a burger just about all week. By Friday, I had gone long enough, it was time to give in to my desires. I tired to trusty old yelp to find a burger joint within distance which oddly enough led me to Hooligans. I chose it: 1. Because of the name, classic 2. Because I could walk to it 3. Someone at work had been raving about their burgers. So me and the boo thang sauntered down and were immediately told we could sit outside. Score! That was what I was hoping for after being cooped up all day in the office. The boo ordered the beelzaburger which he asked the waitress to pronounce and she immediately said, I'm new I don't know. Not the best customer service answer but we pushed through. I got the German burger, which was topped with onion and cheese. A little bland for me but my boo loved his burger because it was spicy and full of flavor. This is just an ok place to me because 1. The waitress didn't know her stuff and didn't attempt to get to know her stuff 2. The burger seemed like it was probably frozen at some point Since it was my first time, I'll give it another go. Not a fantastic place but somewhere I could see myself going from time to time. read more
