Always wanted to stop here because it always looked like a cool place out in Big Bend. It was pretty busy in there. I guess the warm 80 degree day in October brought everybody out. They have a typical bar set up with plenty of gaming machines, pull tabs, pool table and darts. The menu was pretty big. Servers were nice bt they really looked short staffed. Needed to celebrate and this place was on our way home. Never been before so we figured time to give it a try. The drinks were good. I had an old fashioned that was delicious and the price wasn't bad. We ate outside it was beautiful night with great ambiance. Kudos to the wait staff. Our waitress was very nice and very attentive. My husband had the wings. We have a high bar when it comes to wings. These were not the best we've had but my husband did say he would order them again so that says something. Service was a 0/10. Stood there for 10 minutes and every single waitress and bartender avoided us like the plague. We had no idea what to do and when we went to the bar they said "we can put you on a list", but then never explained how the list worked or how long it would take and then immediately proceeded to ignore us again. A group of us stopped by Papa Stache's last Saturday and I went to the bar and ordered a glass of wine and some other drinks (I left a greater than 30% tip). You can imagine how surprised I was when I got over to our table with my $14 glass of wine and realized it literally was around 2 ounces of wine. So I thought perhaps I had grabbed the glass of wine too soon and maybe she had emptied one bottle and needed to open another bottle to give me the usual 5 ounce (ish) pour. So, I returned to the bar and asked the bartender if this was a usual pour of a glass of wine to which she abruptly told me that this is the size of their pour and proceeded to walk away and slam things behind the bar. I'm over here flipping a coin still trying to decide which of the bartender's traits is my favorite... the bad attitude or the resting bitch face. It astounds me how someone who works in the service industry can possess zero customer service skills. The Fish Fry Fiasco and the Table Tango Oh, what a night at Papa Stache's! The fish fry was so fantastic, I almost forgot I was in a pub and not a five-star restaurant. The service was so satisfying, I half expected the staff to start serenading us. And the ambiance? Absolutely awesome! It felt like stepping into a cozy, rustic haven where everyone knows your name. Tip: Seating is first come, first serve, so apparently, you need to stand over a table like a hawk and pounce the moment someone leaves. We thought we were waiting for a table to be cleared, but we kept "losing" our table to more aggressive diners. Lesson learned: next time, we'll bring our own flag to plant! Despite the table tango, we ended up at the communal table. We were a party of five, seated with a party of three, but we quickly became one big, happy family. This place has been on my radar for years. I drive by it ever so often on my way to Waukesha. Tonight we stopped to see what they had to offer. We were not disappointed! It's not your average pub and grill. Drink specials every night, and in the summertime they have row boat rentals and horseshoe pits. Also they have outside dining. Tonight we enjoyed their smoked riblets, and one of their signature burgers. I had the "Let's Make Burgers Great Again." A 3rd pound beef patty, with Swiss cheese mushrooms and grilled onions. I don't know what happened to this place honestly. We have gone here many times, but this last Friday Oct. 22nd will probably be our last. The baked fish was horrible and rubbery. The regular fish Fry was dry and also quite rubbery. Rye bread was dry. Tater tots and frys were cold. AND the chocolate eclairs for dessert were obviously frozen store bought. They usually have amazing cheese cake and so I thought these eclairs would be bomb. Yea, noooo. We were so so so disappointed. I don't know if they got a new cook. Or different supplier for food. They have a barbeque pork pizza that smelled Heavenly but I chose there version of Supreme. Toppings tasted fresh topped off with quality mozzarella cheese. This was our second visit to Papa Stache. We started with the seasoned onion rings (straw size) with sweet buttermilk dipping sauce. They were delicious and enough for the 3 of us. Two of us had the breaded perch dinner and one had the battered cod. Both dinners were delicious and came, in pint size wire baskets, with a choice of sweet potato fries, seasoned potato chips (homemade) or tater tots. The side portions were big and fresh. We shared the sides which were very good. We arrived at 4:30 PM on a Friday. Service was initially slow until more servers arrived at 5:00 PM. Then service improved. Patrons were very loud and rude. The f word was used at least 20 times during the hour I was there by very drunk patrons and nothing was said to them. It was also 5 o'clock on a Sunday and I had my 16 year old with me. It later turned even more vulgar talking about male and female parts.
