Met some friends for lunch. It was our first time there. The food was really good with an attention to detail you do not ordinarily find in a neighborhood bar. Staff was very attentive and we all enjoyed our lunch. My burger was one of the best I've ever had. You will enjoy this place. read more

Everything about this place sucks but the worst part is the manager (an older lady with brown hair). she came at my friend aggressively drunk out of her mind and randomly asked for her ID. She looked at it and made John the guy bartending "run" it and he gave her a thumbs up . My friend is 24 years old you guys serve under agers all the time, it's illegal so I will be contacting who I need to for them to get you guys in trouble. I don't care anymore. Your manager shouldn't of came at my friend like that for no reason . We were there for less than 15 min. I called to find out what her name was but they said there was only a guy manager working last night so she must of been off the clock. When she asked for the ID very rudely someone else asked her why she is being rude & she started yelling .She kicked us out . I'm so confused on why this happened. I will gladly love the speak to the owner about this. You need new staff this place is going down hill. If there was a reason on why she did that I wouldn't be leaving this bad review but i think that it was so unnecessary for her to be like that. Have had lunch a couple of times. Good food and service. Recently went for dinner. Started out with a glass of wine for me and my wife. Received our wine and commented about the very short fill. The bar tender said her boss won't let them fill any more. She used a carafe to measure the pour but never filled it up. Food is decent and we like the outside seating. Staff is always running but they don't really care if you aren't satisfied. Beer, bottle or tap, is always warm! Asked for a frosted mug as the beer was warm (again) and the bartender said she had just put them in the cooler and walked away. Went for fish fry. Pretty good, but not knock you off your seat good. Typical Friday night bar fish fry. Potato pancakes were above average. Very busy, had to wait quite a while for drink refills. Appetizers were very good. Maybe a bit understaffed? read more

This is my 3rd time at Papa's and I find it to be a great little spot in Big Bend. I'm from a small Township down the road (Tichigan) and not to many good places to get a good fish fry. Yes one might find a few good one's but Papa's offers you a different menu, I prefer the Perch , for under 10.99 you get 2 pieces of butter bread ( marble rye) 4 nice pieces of a nice light battered perch your choice of fries, or potato pancakes (house made) not no food vendor commercial made or chips , I always get the fries, the batter is like a crisp coding kinda like the newish Burger King style. Yes you get a small cup of dipping tarter sauce (don't know if it is house made) and coleslaw ( house made?) And a lemon wedge, I ended up taking some fish home cause I was full after 3 pieces, ( my girlfriend didn't finish either ) . Yes they offer Cod, and Pan Fish but stick to the Perch. The food is excellent I gave it 4 stars because well it was warm inside, even hotter out , Which one could eat outside on the many tables but when it's 89 + humidity my ice in my drink melts faster., Yes they had a couple of window air conditioners but with the bar patrons and the sit down tables it was a little stuffy. We were so excited to try this place, BUT we sat at a table for 15 minutes before anyone even showed up and all she said was "oh I thought you were with this table" slide one menu at us and walked away and never came back. On top of that, there was a large group that came in after us who she gave menus to and took drink orders from before she ever came near us. We left without even ordering. read more

4:15pm on a Tuesday a handful of people sitting at the bar. Bartender seemed irritated that we took her away from the other patrons. Ordered old fashioneds which were made in a small Tom Collins type glass. Cherries with stems attached were muddled with a half slice of Orange with a few slashes of bitters. Followed by one shot of Korbel. 7up topped off with old fashioned mix. $5.25 or $5.50 My gf had 7 cherry stems in her glass! It was very hard to fish them out as the glass was very narrow. Weird. We ordered Twin Peaks and the taco special. Small skillet arrives with potatoes, green beans with thin slices of VERY stingy steak. Over fried jumbo taco shell, cold shredded chicken, over abundance of red onions. Lukewarm tasteless rice and very dry beans with an off taste. Perhaps we should of just went with the burgers...? The prices are very good on food. Everything I've tried here is delicious. The skillet Mac is huge and very good. The burger I had was excellent and was very fresh. Today the had a Cuban sandwich on special and holy crap it was delicious. It was about 10" long and almost perfect. It was not pressed otherwise it would get a solid 10 from me, 9.8 instead. We were pleasantly surprised, really good food. The prime rib sandwich, a daily special, was good. Mary's open face burger was excellent. The pesto and fried mozzarella were nice additions to the burger. The kid's Mac n Cheese was very good, just a smaller version of entree. It was seasoned very well. The pub was also very clean, both the tables and the bathroom. We received very attentive service from Christina who was the bartender and also seconded as our server. Waited 15 minutes no greet, acknowledgement nothing. Business must be great you can ignore and turn away first time guests.

Went with a large group. Help wanted sign out front. People seated after us were served first. They tried hard to serve all of us at once, served dishes warm, not hot. Our waitress forgot one person for 5+ min until we pointed out not everyone had food and waiting for silverware. Small fish portions and some were overcooked, house chips warm, pizza had lots of cheese and was good except the crust that seemed to be from frozen shell. read more

Great giant taco on Tuesdays! Almost like a taco salad, but really tasty. Service was great, as well. The menu is a little confusing to decifer, but the staff is more than willing to explain. Good selection of food and not the same old boring bar menu. read more

Had late lunch here today and was surprised to see the place was busy at 2pm. We had the Mary's Open Face Sandwich and it was fantastic. The burger was done to our request and the combination of ingredients is a winner. The fries with the sandwich were very good. I don't know if they offer any special sauce to dip them in, didn't think to ask, but that would have been a nice addition. We also ordered a small pizza, love the thin crust and the ingredients were fresh, this also was a winner in our book. While the server was busy she was prompt, and friendly, the food came to the table hot. It was a bit noisy at times, but it's a bar and to be expected. We will be back. read more

This is your typical bar with some pretty good food. This review is for their food as I am not a bar aficionada. Met some girlfriends on a rainy Sunday afternoon in April to gab. Plenty of tables (mostly high top) avail. We ordered the Twin Peaks (steak and vegies grilled), the Steak Lovers salad and the Old School burger & fries. All very tasty. Good portions. Loved my fries and burger. Good prices, but then I am used to Chicago. Unlimited refills on soft drinks a plus. But we had to order at the bar, there was no wait service at tables that day. Called in food for pick up when my husband got there he waited 15 minutes for our food. (We were told 20 min on the phone he got there at that time) during his 15 minute wait he paid. When they brought the food the order was wrong! 2 of one item and some items were missing. He then waited 30 minutes for them to make the missing items a burger and chicken sand. They did not offer to do anything for him. He waited 35 minutes brought home half of our order warm and half soggy and cold. Very disappointed. read more
