First time diners here this should be interesting it is a mystery surprise night for me that my wife planned on her own. I thought it would be more upscale, more high end, more classy. I was taken back by the lobby noise that kept bleeding into the restaurant from the hostess station. A 5:30 reservation restaurant empty. Dry aged rib eye and braised short ribs two entires plus trio of vegetables shared all very delicious. Served with a delightful Pinot noir. All said and done a positive experience. My husband and I dined at the The ChopHouse after an event downtown. We rarely get downtown, but when we do, it's our go to for steak. We got there right at opening. There were a few tables seated. We waited a bit for initial service, but not a big deal as we were not in a hurry at the time. Thank goodness for the rolls and butter to quench our hunger as drinks (one being incorrect) were taking some time to get. Once we got our drinks and placed an order, it went downhill. Thank goodness for the 2nd round of rolls, as we are starving. We finally received our steaks and sides after quite a wait. Our steaks were way overcooked and burnt (not chared) from the way we ordered. Manager, I'm assuming, came over to ask about the steaks and saw the incorrect temps (also after the table next to us also complained about their plates) and then the server came over to look at them and agreed they were over cooked. Her excuse was they were training an all new staff. Who trains on a Saturday night at a higher end steakhouse?!? If I'm paying $300 for a dinner, it better be right. They took a measly round of drinks off the tab. Because we bit into the steaks, they said they couldn't comp a meal. We ate the sides and as much steak as we could stomach, and left. I emailed them to let them know my disappointment, but no response. We were supposed to come downtown again in a couple weeks with a group, but looks like we will be looking for a different place for steak. Let's start with the fried cauliflower dish... that was amazing, had a nice kick to it, beautiful balance of flavors. The Salad was standard nothing crazy Trio of sides. Mashed potatoes and baked potato and green beans... I was hoping the mashed potatoes had more flavor (more butter, more cream, more garlic, etc) but they weren't bad, they just weren't great either and I really wanted them to be great. Steaks.... LINZ Heritage Farms produces all halal beef so I was extremely excited to see it on the menu and the cook/preparation absolutely delivered . Cooked to a perfect medium Rare+, dry aged to perfection. The highlight of the meal as it should be. Parents got the short rib and that was fantastic as well. Our waitress was kind, informative and overall wonderful, but there was a table not too far from us that was obnoxiously loud and constantly swearing. Milwaukee Chophouse is an elegant steakhouse on the first floor of the Hilton in the heart of downtown. They offer a wide selection of wine, nice cuts of steak, and fresh seafood. The evening I attended, a lot was ordered because it was a business dinner, and the table shared various dishes. To kick off the night, we ordered a handful of appetizers. I personally only tried the fried calamari, which was delicious and tender. It sits on a spread of a lemon butter sauce with a sprinkle of cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, and capers. Since steakhouses usually offer a type of bisque, I decided to try their seafood bisque. It has a creamy tomato base with some jumbo lump crab meat and is topped with a crostini. The flavor of the bisque was a tad bland. I finished the dish, but I would pass next time. They did have a poblano and corn chowder, which a few at the table enjoyed, and I would order it next time if it is offered. Now to the star of the meal--the meat. I decided on a medium New York Strip Steak. I added brandy peppercorn sauce as an accompaniment, which was also tasty. Since a steak needs a buddy, I had to add a Broiled South African lobster tail. You can't go wrong with a nice piece of lobster drowned in butter. For sides, we also ordered an array of items. From veggies to carbs, we had it all. I enjoyed the lobster mac and cheese with large chunks of lobster throughout. It was out together with white cheddar, buttered breadcrumbs and parmesan. I also tasted the mashed potatoes, a mash of garlic purée, cream, and butter. Want a fabulous bite? Put together the steak, the brandy peppercorn sauce, and a swipe of the potatoes. Yum. To end the night, we were treated to a selection of desserts. I don't have a sweet tooth, but I will lean toward sorbet if they have it. They had a pairing of strawberry and blood orange. This was my first time here so I wasn't too sure what to expect. As soon as I came in the host sat us at a booth. We were handed 3 different menus: food, wine, & alcohol. I kind of wish they had normal drinks like as fountain drinks or maybe a lemonde, but most of their beverages are alcoholic- though they did have mocktails & sparkling water. The vibe inside had an almost luxurious feel to it, yet still maintained a casual environment. To start, I had the jumbo shrimp cocktail & the fried calamari. In my opinion those dishes do better with not a lot of seasoning, but somehow both starters had me tasting flavors I've never tasted before. It was very seasoned & kind of reminded me of almost a grassy taste.. not for me, but I'm sure most people like that. The shrimp was good & also had the same type of grassy flavor. I did expect there to be more than 5 pieces of shrimp for $20 though. On to the entrees, they had a really nice selection to choose from & I wish I had picked something different as my braised short-rib was sub-par. It was basically just one piece of short-rib that was slow cooked which they then threw a bunch of grass & roots on top. The meat was super tender as expected, but it just wasn't anything special. My date had gotten the lambchops & although they were great, it was only the lambchops.. not even some veggies or I don't know.. something?? Just meat on a plate & you order the sides seperately. I will say the mashed potatoes were excellent & was definitely large enough to be split between maybe 2-3 people. We sat at the bar and enjoyed some shrimp and cocktails. The shrimp was yum. The cocktails were great. The service was absolutely outstanding. Really fabulous bartender! For being fancy, this was a bummer. My friend and I shared the tuna tar tar which was very bland and lacked flavor. The tuna was fresh but again it was missing a sauce to bring out the flavors. We shared the risotto which was nothing to right home about and a huge portion. We split the filet which was hard to cut and again didn't have a lot of flavor. Poke was very good but found the calamari to be a little overcooked. For main course, had the Prime Rib Eye w/ broccolini and lobster mac & cheese. Steak was cooked perfectly and very good. 1. Service: Terri, my server this past Saturday, September 30th, was first-rate. Likewise her team (clearing my dishes; attending to other small details). The front desk was also very kind and understanding about my late arrival for my reservation. 2. The water: They might need to filter it, or in some other way try to eliminate the mild chlorine taste. 3. Lamb chops: Very pleasant, done perfectly as ordered (Medium), in a tasty sauce. But, the philistine in me can't help comparing those expensive guys to the ones Mom used to make -- simple, broiled delicacies that were delicious with just salt and pepper (for one tenth the cost). 4. Shaved Brussels Sprouts (side dish): Honey, fresh parmesan, lemon. Very glad I heeded Terri's warning that a full serving is ample! Even the "half" portion was more than enough. And, alas, that was even more true because these were not, as the saying goes, anything to write home about (unless you're writing to tell the family, "Don't waste your money on these Brussels sprouts!") Our own humble version, at home, is miles better (baked at 400 degrees, in nothing but olive oil, with a little sea salt). Perhaps part of the problem is that these were larger than the tender, sweet, baby sized ones that I (and many other people) prefer. But they were also overdone. Any subtlety of flavor that was intended was totally lost as a result. The predominant taste was, well . . . "burned". 5. Crème brûlée for dessert: Everything that Crème brûlée should be. And, excellent coffee, served in an ample pot. 6. The Prices: RIDICULOUS. But not any different from other fine dining restaurants. Is any meal ever worth such prices? Not really (except for the Santa Fe Bar & Grill, in Berkeley: my most cherished dining experience, 30+ years ago). Went to the Bourbon & Bees five course tasting dinner. Everything was fantastic! Food. Service! Out of this world. Highly recommend.

The food was excellent. Get the mashed potatoes leave the rest behind because they are perfection. Everyone at our table LOVED their meal. The service was 5 stars as well. But the other piece that made the evening so lovely was at a table of eight we could hear each other and at times hold a conversation from one end of the table to other. So often you can have a nice meal but the volume of a space is too much. The Chophouse was a lovely long dinner the way friends and family should enjoy. Only thing we'd change is more mashed potatoes and more Brussel sprouts. read more

Chophouse is in the ground floor of the venerable Milwaukee Hilton and as the 'premier' restaurant in the hotel there's a reputation that has to be maintained. And yep, it hits all the high points of an expensive steak joint: hostess in an elegant but slightly sexy dress, wait staff in finely appointed serving outlets, actual tablecloths on the table, a proper butter knife and bread plate, lots of exposed dark wood accents, and a menu with very high prices. As expected, the side items are all add-ons. I find this a bit annoying. When you're spending $40 for a steak, should you really have to pay $5 for some scalloped potatoes or steamed veggies? Oh, well. Do have the salad, which is a nice scoop of shredded lettuce and macon and dressing presented well. It's a good appetizer. The steak? Oh, yeah, this was an excellent steak. Perhaps a little too well done (my medium rare as well as that of my table mate was definitely medium). Yes, the manager stopped by to ask, but you know, I just can't deal with sending food back to the kitchen. So instead, here I am slamming them semi-anonymously on Yelp. Oops. Other than being a bit too well done, it was excellent. New York strip had the right texture and an excellent flavor. I had it "au poivre" which is a great peppery topping and really accents the steak. We skipped dessert. $110 for two steaks, two beers and two salads. Woo! read more

My wife ordered sea bass and I ordered a filet. I really like the side dishes. We ordered the trio dish which means you choose 3 smaller sides which we shared. The entrees were done well and both were excellent. The sides were good but the green beans were tepid at best. The service was ok however it was not anything special. We would expect top notch service at the ChopHouse. The last thing which isn't the restaurant's fault was that we were seated next to a group that was loud and drunk. Could not have been more disappointed. Arrived at 8:30 on a Friday night excited for the prime rib special. Sold out. Ok seemed odd it wasn't late for dinner but I ordered a filet and broccoli instead. My husband ordered the chicken with green beans, mushrooms and asparagus. Chicken was good. He said the mushrooms and asparagus were good as well. The green beans were drowned in butter and the broccoli had so much garlic I couldn't eat it even after trying to scrape most of the garlic off. (I think I had garlic coming out my pores for 2 days after eating just a few bites). I ordered my filet medium well. The first two bites were ok but as I got towards the center of the steak everything changed. It was raw. I'm not sure if the steak had been frozen and it wasn't thawed when they tried to cook it but it went from a sear on the outside to raw in the center. Not pink, not rare, but cold and red raw. When we brought it to the attention of the server she offered to put the steak back on the grill. A steak I'd already eaten off of back onto a grill you are going to use to cook someone else's food? Umm no thanks. She then cleared my plate and didn't offer to box it so I could finish cooking it at home or even feed it to a dog. When the check came they offered a free dessert. We declined and they gave us two coupons for a free drink on our next visit. Of course there's about 6 restrictions on the coupons and you can only use one per order etc etc etc. So you charged me for a steak I couldn't eat and offered me a worthless coupon. Our dinner started out well enough as we were welcomed by a friendly and attentive staff. Sadly, it went downhill once our meals arrived. My husband and I both got the scallops, as recommended by our server, along with sides of the loaded marble potatoes, lobster mac and Brussels sprouts. I began my meal by tasting the sides and found the lobster mac lacking in flavor and the potatoes drowning in a thick, salty cream sauce that completely ruined the dish. (The Brussels sprouts were good!) My husband began with the scallops and, after making a disgusted face, encouraged me to take a first bite and tell him what I noticed. I did and was hit by the taste of . . . salt. Just salt. We explained to our waiter who seemed a bit put out by our report. He offered no apology, just the phrase, "it happens." He took the scallops back and replaced them within 10 minutes. Upon biting the replaced meal we found it exactly as salty as before. The waiter came back to ask how it was and, at this point, the whole thing became uncomfortable due to the way it was handled after our first report of saltiness. We explained that it was still as salty before, to which he replied, "I'll share that feedback with the kitchen." Given the price of our dinner (our children were with us who were quite pleased with the pasta with marinara), we couldn't be more disappointed in both the poor preparation of the food and the unsatisfactory handling of our complaint. I had the filet, medium rare, it was melt in your mouth tender and cooked to perfection. My husband's sea bass was delectable. We ordered a few side dishes too, also delicious. And when they did they had opened a back room up and no one was in there - so why did we wait? The waiter came saw we had drinks from the bar and then we didn't see him for another 15 minutes even though we told him we were hungry. He took our order then our bread came and I don't recal seeing the waiter again until I called him over as he walked away from another table because we needed more drinks. As I said the food was good, steaks were great, I think the biggest complaint was the broccoli was chard which I don't understand as it was hard like it wasn't cooked much. Half the tables ended up being open so don't always go by open table because people make multiple reservations and don't show Our waiter was nice but didn't see him much because there was a big private party in the back so they didn't designate certain servers just for that. The food was good. The steaks were good and the side trio is more than enough for 2-3 people. The dress code should be enforced more. people were in baseball hats and a man at the next table wore a white hanes t-shirt and his pants were down under his butt. I normally eat at kil@wat, but had a Marcus Club member discount card so gave it a try. Boy was i glad i decided to explore. Service was excellent. Atmosphere is perfect, not too quiet but not disruptive either. And the food was delectable. I had the Veal chop, my daughter had the strip steak. Melted in your mouth. One of the best dirty Martinis I've had. The Wild mushrooms served with the Veal were very tasty. My daughter enjoyed her fudge cake dessert. I have frequented this restaurant so many times that I have tried every seafood dish on the menu. The best part about the Chophouse is the warm bread served with the trio of spreads. The gorgonzola butter spread is my absolute favorite! I always request Derrick because if you are a frequent customer, he remembers exactly what you like and all I have to do is sit down and my favorite glass of wine magically appears; now, that's what I call an excellent waiter. All of their seafood dishes are tasty, but I particularly love the lobster and the lobster mac and cheese. Having gone to this restaurant for the past 2 years, I was happy to see that they FINALLY made some slight changes to the menu. If only these changes would extend to the dessert section then I wouldn't have to walk to C. Adam's at the Public Market for dessert. read more
